DB Canavan was born and raised in the Midwest. She is a Best Selling Indie Author. Her whole life, people told her she should write a book, so in 2013 she broke down and independently published her fist eBook. DB Canavan, also know as Donna, loves to hear from her readers.
I liked the premise of Torn which had a strong female lead in Faith/Haylee as an undercover agent in Iowa of all places. Her next door neighbor is Antonio Spinelli and she works for "Johnathan" (IT SHOULD BE JONATHAN!!!) Drazen. With those two vying for her attention you can only imagine the heat! Yes, sparks aplenty. Who will win?
Torn was a bit hard for me to get my mind wrapped around. I think the main reason is because it felt rushed due to so many typos. I could overlook a few but the most glaring was primarily "Johnathan" (JONATHAN) which was misspelled throughout the whole novella. If that huge misspell was supposed to be on purpose then for me it was an automatic ding ding ding! I couldn't stop glaring at it!
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. The divergence in the characters from their established roles comes late in the book, and understanding it's fanfic redirection is necessary if you've read all CD's books. I understand there's a sequel coming, too, and I will read it when available.
Torn is a great example of the fun that can be had with the fan fic format. Taking beloved characters like Jonathan and Spin and putting them in new, but plausible, settings and situations was a bold approach, but it ultimately works because the author keeps true to their characters. She takes the whispers and insinuations about the Drazen underworld connections and creates this intriguing love triangle involving an undercover federal agent and one, if not two, crime bosses. Juggling two of the hottest book boyfriends ever is a fantasy I can get behind. Is Jonathan Irish mafia? What did Spin do to warrant exile to Iowa? Who gets the girl? Who gets arrested? Find out in this sexy, entertaining summer read. 4.5 stars
I have to start by saying that I haven't read the series from C.D. Reiss where the characters in this book were born. (Don't lynch me :)... I have them but haven't read them yet!) That being said, I felt that Torn completely stood in its own. I didn't feel as though I was missing anything. I really enjoyed this story. I thought it was phenomenal to be able to run with some characters someone else created. Two alpha makes vying for one woman... and an undercover FBI agent no less. Intense. Hot. Steamy. Suspenseful. Descriptive. A little angst...A little action. A big bomb at the end..... Cliffhanger! I can't wait to find out how it all goes down!!
Great read. Two sexy, powerful alpha males. One a business man the other a ruthless mafia boss both have secrets and want the same woman. She's an undercover agent and fallen for both of them. This situation could cost her her job or even her life. What's a girl suppose do.Can't wait for part 2

First I need to say that i had wanted to read this book for months but i just never seemed to find the time. So when i was finally able to read it, i had high expectations.
This was my first book by D.B. Canavan and i am so glad to have found this author.
The book started slow, like really slow. I was a little bit anxious about the beginning because i was wondering where this was taking me. BUT it was needed. By Starting slow, you can really get into the characters, get to know them and their story. You get the 'side' story of each and that way, when the real deal starts you just get to jump in and enjoy without wondering about anything.
This is a book about love, lust, lost and crimes. A great story to read and read over again. Book 2 is coming out soon and i cannot wait to find out what happens to Haylee, Johnathan and Antonio. .
You need this book if you like a good well written Mafia Romance story filled with intrigues,Love maybe..Sex, Crimes and Mystery, Definitely!!

WOW, is it hot in here or what! I could not put this novella down and I want more.... Faith/Haylee is an FBI agent out to investigate Jonathan Drazen in relations to his association with certain crime families. From their very first meeting, Jonathan wants her and craves her, but she's playing hard to get. At the same time her next door neighbor Tony is also vying for her attention. What she doesn't know is that he is the famous crime boss Antonio Spinelli who's also being investigated. Both men want her and are ready to fight to get her. Who will win, she's torn between both of them? I am looking forward to the next installment of this book to see who's win's the girl.
O.M.G!!!! Torn is unbelievably intense! Antonio AND Jonathan! Both?! Haylee, aka Faith has the best (and worst) luck!
The job was to get close to Jonathan and she successfully gets a promotion. Jonathan has other ideas of what close means. Of course! He's sexy as hell Jonathan!
Sexy as f**k neighbor Tony Martelli, aka Spin, wants her desperately.
She wants them both. She knows one is her target but she has no idea the other is going to become her target.
She's fallen for both! They want her and are will to take each other down for her. But they don't know Faith is Haylee!
I'm not an editor by any means, but the errors in this book were impossible to overlook. There was so much possibility in this story. Fan-fiction for Drazenworld: Spinelli vs. Drazen... I mean, YES! Right? There were moments I saw the original characters, but they didn't linger. I think the ideas behind this story were great, but the interactions seemed forced. The typos took me out of the story too many times. HOWEVER, if this is a novice writer, I applaud you for putting yourself out there and for giving us a fantasy of Jonathan and Antonio fighting over anyone ("why not me?").
This was an interesting concept for a novella from CD Reiss' world!!! Both of the men are captivating just like in CD's books & the female lead is strong w/a vulnerable past. It ends with a "tbc" and I will definitely want to see how the story ends. Note: There were a few typos or spots where the wrong word was used....X.
This didn't snag me right away but in the end it turned out to capture my interest and wanting to see where the author takes it in the next installment.
A sexy little spin (pun intended). A strong female lead and a past driving her determination to take down drug traffickers puts her smack in the middle of two of my favorite Alpha men, Jonathan and My Capo. What a delicious place to be!
WOW! That is all I have to say. Seeing another side and time for both steamy Jonathan Drazen and our sexy Capo, Antonio Spinelli was so much fun! Having them both mixed up and fighting for the same woman... to be Haley Nichols! I cannot wait for September to read the rest!!!
I went into this book not knowing who Jonathan Drazen and Antonio Spinelli were and I honestly don't feel like that effected my reading of it. It doesn't read as though it continues from another novel/series for me. Haylee starts out as undercover FBI agent, Faith, and I really love how in the beginning, she seemed extremely tough and independent. I will say, I thought maybe she would have been a little more resistant to the charms of both men and I think this is what effected my rating. The first few chapters portrayed her one way and then her character's personality seemed to shift the moment she meets Jonathan and Antonio in a way that didn't stay true to the tough persona that was originally shown in the beginning of the book. I would have liked to have seen her stay that way. However, I think the storyline and plot easily sucks you in and makes you want more! I really enjoyed reading the three different POVs. I plan to read the next book to know what happens!
