Sports and travel writer Simon has been in the journalism business since 1981 and was the original founder of the Brit Guide travel book series with UK publishers Foulsham in the mid-1990s. He quickly discovered sport and travel were good companions as he developed the Brit's Guide series in tandem with his specialty for American sports coverage with several British newspapers. His acclaimed freelance writing has grown to include a huge variety of outlets, from major British newspapers The Sun, Mail on Sunday, Daily Express, The Telegraph and The Independent to specialty publications like RCI Holiday, Essentially America and World of Cruising magazine (which he also edited from 1999-2014). He has featured on BBC TV's Holiday programme, various UK regional radio stations, and Fox 35 TV in Orlando, while he also writes the View From America column for SkySports.com. Other outlets include the Internet, web pages for the likes of Attraction Tickets Direct and Orlando Attractions magazine. Simon has also partnered with wife Susan on various writing projects, and their travels together continue to provide a rich source of inspiration for articles and books. A committed and lifelong devotee of travel in all its forms, Simon is never happier than when detailing his observations and thoughts, and his one big ambition is to tour the vast and inhospitable tracts of Antarctica. As final proof of the perfect compatability of travel and sport, Simon's formative years were spent in Southern Africa, where his family lived for seven years, and he was national junior tennis champion in 1975 and '76 - in Botswana!
Guess who's going to Disney World this year!? Yep the one with the 2017 Brit Guide to Orlando! This will be my sixth visit and an extra special one as it's also a wedding/Honeymoon rolled into one :)
This is a great guide for first timers. It's not too daunting like some other guides (more on that later). The information is laid out clearly in an easy to read way, with pictures scattered throughout. Also handy being aimed at Brits rather than Americans, lots of useful advice on different package operators.
I've read a couple of different editions of this book. It's always worth buying the latest one as so much changes in Orlando. I only went 2 years ago but so much has changed!
Talking of daunting guides, if you want the Disney Bible then 'The Unofficial Guide To Walt Disney World' is the one to go for! But this one is good for a quick view on Orlando.
This is a great overview to Orlando with lots of handy tips for British travellers. There are lots of glossy photos and it is easy to read. I have a trip to Disney coming up so read this section and the Universal sections mainly. The book focuses on both of these and has made me even more excited to go. I think it would help if it had more prices for the restaurants and bars as it only seems to give guides on prices on particular restaurants. There was a lot of things I saw that I thought that looks good but I will have to look it up later to see how expensive it is. I would definitely recommend if you have a trip to Orlando coming up!
