This volume deals with the subject of portfolio-based writing assessment. It explores the theory behind using portfolios in writing a programme as well as information about what portfolios are, what advantages they hold for assessment purposes, and what effects they can have on a writing programme.
This book by Liz Hamp-Lyons and Bill Condon is cited in just about every book or article on portfolio there is. Important early work toward theorizing portfolio assessment. Hamp-Lyons used to be at CU-Denver, so there's some description of a first-year comp articulation port assessment from there that is similar to the one UCCS used to use, and CU-Denver faces the same issues with high transfer and non-traditional populations.
