After being caught in a compromising clinch with his boss's granddaughter, ranch foreman Eli Forrester was forced into a shotgun marriage with Melanie Kincaid. Eli had never wanted anyone as much as he did beautiful Melanie. But he'd learned the hard way not to let anyone get too close. Which meant that they could share heated glances and soul-searing kisses, but Eli wouldn't let her thaw his cold, hard heart. Still, it wasn't easy when every instinct told him that the city spitfire was the woman who could offer the solace he craved...
The Kincaid Bride is a book by American author Jackie Merritt in the Montana Mavericks series. Melanie Kincaid takes leave from her job in California to spend time with her grandfather, Garrett Kincaid after the death of his son, her irresponsible father Larry. When she arrives at his ranch near Elk Springs, Montana, she meets his foreman, Eli Forrester. The attraction is instant, and mutual. Circumstances put them in each other’s exclusive company once too often, and things get physical. More than once. When Garrett happens upon them, he insists on immediate marriage, and they are both too stunned and embarrassed to object. But Melanie has other plans for her life, and nobody knows who Eli really is. This enjoyable romance has a feisty female lead and a strong, sensitive male to match. This book can be read as a stand-alone but as part of the Montana Mavericks series, there are several sub-plots that lead the reader to further books in the series. In particular, Garrett’s discovery of six Kincaid heirs that Larry has fathered leaves plenty of scope for more stories. This is another dose of Merritt at her best.
This book is terrible! The writer's presentation of the main character, Melanie Kincaid, is fatally inconsistent. She's introduced as a beautiful, sensitive and intelligent woman but then proceeds to behave like a nutty cow who it is almost impossible for the reader to like. One minute she's giving poor Eli Forrester the megawatt come on and the next thing you know she hates his guts and is storming off like a spoilt cow. May I add that he does nothing to provoke these completely irrational and annoying mood swings... I don't care how much of a 'knock out' she's supposed to be, no man would put up with her in real life. There's also the completely ridiculous situation where Granddad Kincaid catches Melanie and Eli getting it on and marches them straight off to the courthouse to get married...?? Reeeeallly? Oh please.
Melanie Kincaid went to Montana to spend time with her grandfather at his request. Unforeseen events prevented him from spending much time with her. So he asked his foreman Eli Forrester to look after her. Was it a mistake? or not? She flirted with Eli and he was caught, hook, line, and sinker. When her grandfather caught them in a compromising position, he hauled her and Eli off to the judge to be married. Then Melanie got her dander up and refused to be a proper wife. It would take a miracle to change her. Of course, there was a miracle. A good one too.
Porn, lust, that's what this is. Suggestively and outright within the first few beginning pages between two people who just met. I found it disrespectful to read. Definitely could not be considered Christian fiction. Not going to subject myself to more of this. Main male character thinks about suggestive content upon meeting the main female character. Female lead follows suit and gives him a run for his money, and the sexually explicit behavior and language begins. Not finishing. Use of foul language as well.
seriously unlikable main female character. The 'romance' is sappy and unbelievable, not to mention annoying. I find myself skipping large sections to find out more about the illegitimate sons, as they are by far the most interesting element of the plot.
