One of America's leading psychiatrists analyzes the war of the emotions within each of us and shows how the power of love can shape our instinctual aggressiveness to the service of human happiness. Index.
Karl Augustus Menninger (July 22, 1893 – July 18, 1990) was an American psychiatrist and a member of the Menninger family of psychiatrists who founded the Menninger Foundation and the Menninger Clinic in Topeka, Kansas.
Very interesting content and ideas, especially for being published in the 40's. Menninger has pretty unique perspectives on love and life, which translate to today. As a first read for this topic and for phycology I found it very inspiring!
I expected to like this book, but was disappointed. Seemed like a mish-mosh of ideas, organized by chapters. Nothing original, nothing profound. So many other books better than this one.... I rated it OK out of respect for the author, but I really didn't like it. I will give one of his other books a chance, but I now have lower expectations.
Really, really interesting read. It was fascinating to read mentions of the war (world war II) as it was happening, almost like time traveling. Very cool ideas/ connections which have only been recently validated/ researched/ expanded upon.
