Dnf! This book really felt like it was written by a Man. And the audiobook was also narrated by a man even though the book was about a fifteen year old girl. It felt iky. It weirdly felt like the author sexualised this litte girl, writing about her pirod, naked body and tits, how she isn't like others girls that only whants to gossip and her virginity...and so much more when not necessary. I'm all for including periods and how you feeling exposed is absolutely terefing. But I don't feel like author captures the feeling of being a girl at all. To be fair I did dnf quite early, I was like: this is weird, is it written by a man? Saw the name Jay, didn't know if it was or not, crept on reading. Sentence after sentence just kept piling up with wording that really felt iky. Hade to look upp the author and yes it was a old man. Funny how I so strongly felt that without knowing. The story it self could have been good, sounded interesting but I don't want to give more time of mine to this one.
This book had great promise, and the heroine, Emily, is intelligent and skilled, but god is it annoying.
For one thing, every guy in the book, no matter how old, comments on Emily's attractiveness; they mention how she has a great body, and she's groped more than once by full-grown policemen. She's fifteen, by the way. Then there's the fact that the author (a man) has no idea how girls think — he spends way too much time having Emily think about boys and her own body (a whole paragraph about her period? Really?) and not enough about, you know, staying alive. Then there's the insta-love, and the cliché that swallows the book. I would not recommend this to anyone. Don't read it.
The story involves UFO abduction, torture and time-jumping. Emily and her mother are taken by space aliens, experimented upon and only Emily is able to escape. Unfortunately for her she has developed the ability to leap a little forward in time but in a matter which she has no control over at all.
So you have a young girl that can jump through time but arrives totally naked. This means she has to find food, clothing and shelter all on her own, something which is really rough for her to do and avoid any trouble at the same time.
She is able to make friends but she also gets into a lot of trouble. The cops are looking for her, something else is looking for her, she's captured by the police, attacked by a true pervert and has no idea what is going to happen to her in the future.
It's a good story with interesting characters. It dies in to UFO abduction, time-travel and how self-reliant a person can be. It also shows her ability to somehow survive all the terrible things that have been happening but the question remains what else is she going to have to face in further books and will she be able to survive that?
I’m annoyed that I liked this book 😂 It ended on such a mid point that now I have to read the next one I think. I love that it took place in Phoenix which was fun to read about places I know. I wasn’t expecting the Alien component. Curious how this story will turn out. Almost gave 4 stars, but I’m taking one away for the author being such a cop hater. I mean seriously he has a huge prejudice.
