Finding Me

Rate this book
Nobody knows me. Not my neighbors, not people I go to school with, not even my family. Somedays I am convinced that I don’t even know myself. How could I? I haven’t experienced anything to know if I like it. But here is what I know so far.
First, I love the color orange. Like the color of the sky, right as the sun is setting. It is absolutely my favorite thing in the entire world. And I wonder, do all sunsets look like they do in Florida? Or is it different in other parts of the world.
Second, I love the smell of salt water. Even though I live in Florida, I have never been to the beach, but sometimes, when the wind is blowing, I smell the salt water. I try to imagine what it’s like to walk on the sand and feel the waves crash around my ankles. I think it would be nice.
And third, this one I’m not sure about, but I think I’m a people person. I love watching people to see how they interact with each other. I always wonder what it would be like to be them… to have friends. I wonder what makes each person who they are. I wonder what they are thinking. I’m not sure that I will ever truly know.
But then I meet them.
My world is turned upside down and I am introduced to a new world—a world I didn’t know existed.

I got the first book to this series as I loved the idea of a spy novel and it looked like it would be a fun teen Spy series. After reading the first few pages, I knew I was in for a bit more than your usual teen spy school story. It turns out Karlie is living with an abusive family and is the Cinderella to the family. She doesn't have any friends, and her punishments come in the form of starvation and the occasional beating. On the first day of school with no Andrew around, Karlie hopes this year she can be free and make some possible friendships. What she doesn't realize is her whole life is about to change in ways she never could imagine. As I got past the first few chapters, we had a Reverse Harem novel on our hands as well, and I got excited as I love Reverse Harems. Karlie learns later that she was kidnapped as a child and her "real father" has been searching for her and wants her back safe and sound. He is also the Principal of a Spy School that trains the agent's no-one ever talks about as they are that top secret. Karlie is now thrust into this new world, but she can't even enjoy it for that long as she discovers that she is her father's weakness and now has a target painted on her back. What will happen though when one of her newfound friends betrays her? What mess has Karlie found herself in the midst of? Find out in Finding Me - Book #1 Spy Chronicles by Scarlett Haven. For anyone who loves The Ghost Bird Series by CL Stone, they will feel at home with Finding Me as this is very much like the Ghost Bird series and I have to admit by the second chapter I was mentally comparing the two series together.

Have you ever read a book and thought.."this is really simple"? Not simple as in bad and not simple as in a 5 year old could read it but simple as it just didn't require you to be really really focused and invested in reading it?

Well, this is one of those books. Again, its not bad in any way and I liked the characters. Slightly cliché but still ok. It was just an easy, simple read. Its an interesting premise and I can see the series going places.

In all honesty I wish the author would have put more into the book - not saying that she didn't but everything is fairly surface level. I want more emotion, more twist, more turns, more personality from the characters. I want to see and feel the relationships. I'm not a fan of waiting 10 books for the RH to be established but I also don't want them to happen over night. I want it to move at a slightly quick pace BUT I want to see the formation. Make sense?

I'll def be reading the next book because I do want Nolan to be part of the RH but he has some questions to answer. I also want to know more about the h's father, the school, and the guys backgrounds.

Finding me felt more like an introduction to the story that the story itself.
Karlie is a 17 year old girl, who's terribly abused at home. She's lonely and confused about herself. Her parents forbid her to speak to anyone, so she does not have any friends.
Then she starts to meet these new boys at school and out of it, one by one. But they did not move here by accident. They were actually here for her.

The story is very similar to the Ghost bird series, especially so in the firs part of the book. The abuse Karlie suffers, the way the boys just insert themselves into her life is all the same.
But then the story takes a different turn. The ending was unexpected, that was something I definitely did not see coming.
It is an interesting book, though not original. I liked the writing, it was really easy to read. Hope the next book will be longer, because I am surely waiting for it.

With ebooks, self publishing continues to change the landscape. This is an example of good and bad.

The good: this is a well paced plot and dialogue written story. I also enjoyed the Cinderella opening.

The bad.

First it needs copy editing, badly in a few places. Second, I found the scenario a little odd until I found a reference to this being a Reverse Harem novel. I had never heard of such a thing. Third, I have a very low tolerance for open ended novels.

**3.75 stars**

First, let's begin with the main character, Karlie. who lives in an abusive household-she's been mentally and physically abused throughout her life and is isolate from everyone and everything around her because of this.

But here's the best part-SIX GUYS. Can you believe it? Well I can and I FRICKIN LOVE IT!!!

description

Brett, Gage, Hunter, Nolan, Jax, and Sander are the head honchoes and *fans myself* they're pretty awesome and most of their involvement is Karlie using them for food...until the end when everything changes and your world will be torn apart by this book.

description

This book was really fast paced, and the length of the average serial which isn't bad except you'll be left wanting for more:) A couple of things I loved about the book were Karlie's quirkiness and the list she had for the things she liked and didn't like-how she kept updating it as she found things she liked and didn't like as she grew as a character was adorable. Her innocence and hopefulness is amazing but I loved when she started showing her sassier side. And done even get me started on the Twinkie comments throughout the entire book. But one think I didn't really care for in the book other than the length was the immediate reaction the boys had to Karlie. Insta-love or insta-lust? I get it. I'm all for it. But the guys immediately loved her and thought she was great but there wasn't really a reason as to why, which is the reason I gave the book 3.75 instead of a 4 or even a 4.5. I need a reason to why they liked her so much since Karlie never said or did anything special before they were telling her how awesome she was.

Overall, a fabulous read to which the only downside is that it's too short as well as the part I nitpicked above😭😭😭But the bright side to that is Scarlett said the next book would be longer, and maybe the reason the boys love her so much will be revealed then as well as the answer to that cliffhanger.

So Scarlett-girl-I needed the second book yesterday so give it to me now!!! I'm waiting;)

Finding Me is the first of The Spy Chronicles. It's a Reverse Harem novella that has potential. Karlie is a 17 year old girl starting her senior year of high school. She has grown up in a very abusive home. She's mentally abused, physically abused by her step-brother, made to work as a servant for the family, locked up, and deprived of food for any perceived infraction. She is completely isolated and friendless. This all changes on the eve of her senior year when she meets a boy at the park. Then another at school, and another, and one in the woods... In all she meets 6 guys within days that all say they want to be friends. There's more to the story though.

This is a fast-paced, action filled short story. We get back story, the truth about Karlie. Her life changes fast. The characters all have potential. They are clearly defined, but it will be nice to get more time to know them better in future books. There is mystery concerning one. I'm having a hard time believing that we really know what's going on.

There were a few things I loved about the book. Karlie and her list of what she knows about herself, starting with her love of the color orange. It's the right amount of quirky. The fact that she kept updating it as she found things she liked and didn't like was adorable. Her innocence and hopefulness are charming. She started blossoming so quickly after meeting the boys. I loved when her saucy streak made an appearance. I also thought that the ongoing Twinkie comments were amusing. There were a few things I didn't care for in the book. I'm fine with insta-love or insta-lust. What I didn't get was why the boys all immediately thought she was so great. I needed a reason to see why they liked her so much. She never said or did anything special before they were telling her how awesome she was. WHY? More upsetting for me (the reason my rating went from a 4 to a 3 star) was the use of is instead of the plural are. One time is excusable, but at least 5 times was just too much for me. A proofreader should have caught the errors.

This is an entertaining, quick read. There's suspense, danger, and a betrayal. Secrets are revealed, but I'm sure there are still more to be uncovered. It ends in a cliffhanger. Hopefully book two will be longer or if this is a serial they come out monthly.

This is second time I've read this book and it's just as good as I remembered it.💚 This definitely reminded me of The Ghost Bird Series, which I loved, so it's no surprise that I'm obsessed with The Spy Chronicles. Is this a reverse-harem? Because it's hard not to ship innocent Karlie with all the guys. They are all bring something different to the story. They are just so damn sweet and I love how protective they are of her. What a ending!!! I still can't wrap my head around the fact that Karlie was betrayed the way she was... Heck all the guys were.💔 I was blindsided and left utterly speechless.😶

Great story

Love this book read it awhile ago and completely forgot about it. Saw that the second bookw as available and had to reread this one as a refresher. I like Karlie/ Serenity. I hate what she went through and i know she has more to come. I hope everything works and she gets her guys. The ending makes me sad and its such a cliffhanger. Can't wait ro read the next one to see what happens

Don't bother

Giving this book 2 stars is being kind. Choppy writing, completely unrealistic story, the dialogue was atrocious, no chemistry at all because zero character development....it was frankly just Terrible. Sorry, I want to say something nice, but this story should never have been written.

It was a cute book, but also a little bit cheesy and predictable. It reminded me slightly of the Ghost Bird Series, and that twist at the end really blew my mind

Karlie is just scared. Scared of her mother. Scared of her step brother. Scared to make friends. Scared to be noticed. She wanted to be rescued from her scared life. All she knows is how cruel her family is. From an early age she was abused. She never knew what love is or could be. Not even friendship. When she was younger, she tried just talking to a girl in her class. Later at home, her step brother hit her so hard in the stomach she had to take off over a week from school because of the pain. She learned to never make friends after that. Not having anyone in her life to protect her, until her first day of her senior year in high school. Her step brother was a year older then her so she finally was free of him at school. She was noticed, not by one guy, but from six. They seem to just openly want to be her friend. Karlie never had friends before. She quickly became friends with them.
The story becomes a bit twisted after that:
A life and death car chase
Her being drugged
Hidden away in a safe house
Discovering she was kidnapped
Exploding bombs
Finding her father
Private jet
Spy school
Being attacked
Evil guy
Betrayal
The book was fast paced. I didn't fully connected with any of the characters. Then a new guy happened towards the end. The storyline is just so out there.

I read this book first maybe a year and a half ago???? Just this morning I had a sudden urge to read it again, this happens a lot with books I really love! I still love it as much as the first second and third times I've read it. I've only just gotten into reviewing books so now seemed like a good time to review Finding Me.

Spy Chronicles. Is that not enough to get you to read a book??? No? Well how about a kick ass FL who has been through some shit and walked out the other end like nothing bothered her??? I have to admit I'm jealous of her bravery. And the 6 guys that saved her but that's a different matter. And towards the end I changed my mind anyway because I'm a little bit obsessed with a certain Bass.... the characters are so different, it makes it easy to love or hate each one in their own way! And Serenity is just so brave and beautiful and she doesn't even see it but the guys help. I can only imagine what shenanigans they will get up to and I can't wait till she becomes a proper spy/ninja!!!

Finding Me begins when Karlie actually has someone trying to talk to her at school. But, she's not allowed to have friends so she knows it's a bad idea. However, when these strange guys just keep turning up things start to look more and more strange to her. However, when she finds the truth it may be the best thing that ever happened to her.

This was a very short book that introduces us to Karlie's old world and brings us into her new world. It lets us meet these awesome guys who have come to help her, and it also has a very awesome plot line.

However, it was way too short, and it had a crazy cliffhanger that left me going nuts and wondering when the next book is coming out. I cannot wait for the next book now. This one was really good, and I look forward to more in this series.

Where'd the story go???

To be honest I LOVED this book or at least what I did read. The problem was that it was super short and ended on a cliffhanger. So while I will be buying and reading the books to come, I won't do so until all books in the series have been released.

It seems as if this is leaning towards a reverse-harem type book, which I like, but if that isn't your style then maybe this isn't for you.

This book was light, with no smut, and lots of romantic potential. My only setback was that it seems this will be a episode type of series, seriously it was that short. Which I why I only gave 3 stars because I was bummed I finished it in only an hour.

Great read. Can't wait for next book in series, has me curious and a little confused. Although, the minute the school was mentioned I was like, I want to hear more about it. Hoping everything gets a little more exciting and more in detail.

It was okay

This book had a lot of similarities to the Academy books. It just wasn't great. It was okay or maybe even a little entertaining. I'm a sucker for reverse harem books or I might not have given this a try. Hopefully the next book is better.

Good intro. Hopefully the next book will go into more detail about the guys. How did Karlie/Serenity end up with the people she was with. Most of all...Nolan. That means a longer read than 93 pages.
