Rife with awkward comic panels and dialogue, along with typos aplenty. And the format itself is incredibly awkward. Each chapter includes: A) a graphic novel-like scene. B) then the same scene but expanded and in written prose. C) questions for reflection, real-life business takeaways, and suggestions to reread the chapter looking for specific behaviors.

Does that sound weird? It is. And it almost actually works.

Because, surprisingly, the written prose has some pretty good stuff to say. I guess it does, anyway. At least I felt like it read WAY better than the subpar comic portions. As to business advice in the narrative, I wasn't reading this looking for any particular advice or direction. But I found a strong personality (who has been a successful CFO) voicing her perspectives on negotiations and fighting for what she wants. Which I appreciated.

MPA ratings: PG for language and for violence

A good book for beginner business owners & freelancers who are sci-fi fans. It teaches valuable business lessons on negotiation, trust, and all the hidden risks and costs we assume when providing services to our clients. Learning through stories and examples is so much better than slogging though a bunch of theory, and while the story itself isn't super amazing (if you're used to reading really good sci-fi), it does does the teaching job well.

My biggest beef with this book (hence the 4 stars) is that it's not really a graphic novel. There's only a few comic panels at the beginning of each chapter, followed by written narrative. I was pretty disappointed to discover that because based on the book description, I expected a full on graphic novel.

This book is hard to categorize. It is using fiction to give the reader a great introduction to basic business concepts. It has manga art/strips to hit the point home and then there is a recap section at the end of each chapter going over what business concepts were covered.

To say this is a business book isn't doing it justice, just as saying it is a novel. That being said, it can be read just for the good story. There are books out there that cover similar concept but not in as fun and novel way as this book does.
