4 stars to Carrie Doyle's Death on Lily Pond Lane, her second in the Hampton's Murder Mystery series. I usually start a series with the first novel, but I was given a copy of the second one and decided to dive right in. And I'm glad I did... it's a great book. But now I'm a little disappointed I missed out on what sounds like some great intro and backstory in the first book. I will definitely go back to read them all.

Story
Chef Antonia is fresh off solving a murder when she finds herself a new dead body in one of the Hampton houses she manages as a part-time job when not cooking delicious meals in her East Hampton Inn. This time it's Warner Caruthers, a young guy looking to break into the movie business with his sneaky reveal of Hollywood stars' nasty secrets, who turns up dead in the bathtub of a house Antonia is checking on one afternoon. And then an elderly woman who visits Antonia's Inn for weekly tea seemingly in her sleep, followed by the difficult ex-wife of one of the men on Warner's dastardly documentary. And let's not forget about that peculiar can of Lysol that turns up in the bathroom near Warner... But how does it all fit together?

Along the path, Antonia begins to date Sam, a new chef in town with a mysterious side, but still pines a bit for Nick, a famous actor considering splitting from his wife. She gets closer to friends Genevieve (a fun character) and Joseph (a writer in a scooter), builds her business and deals with her difficult past divorce from a nasty man. Each day, she grows stronger, and each day, she gets closer to solving the puzzle... right up to the point where the killer realizes Antonia's figured out the mystery and tries to kill her too!

Strengths
1. Antonia is fantastic. She's strong, smart, pretty, organized, honorable and fun. You root for her the whole time. She's not whiny and weak, afraid of being chased by the killer. She just goes for it. And it makes for a great story. I would want to be friends with her.

2. All the characters are strong, and the plot is complex. It could be any number of solutions along the way, all reasonable. And when it unfolds, it is a twist -- and believable. I should have been able to guess it, but I didn't this time. I had my mind stuck on a detail that I was fairly sure was important, but in the end, it was not what I thought it was. I love to be stumped!

3. I read 90 pages one night and then 300 the next day. Couldn't put it down as I wanted to get to the bottom of it. Reads quickly. Easy and realistic dialogue. Takes the bite in the Hampton's lifestyle and lets it jump off the pages.

Suggestions
Very little to say in the way of improvements. A few minor details should have been tied together a little more tightly in the end. I think there's a setup in the last two paragraphs for the next book, but I would have liked it to be even more blunt.

Final Thoughts
I think I've found a new series I will enjoy reading... but unfortunately I'll have to wait for the next one to come out. Usually I'm a few books behind... oh well, good things are worth waiting for!

Death on Lily Pond Lane by Carrie Doyle is an ok book. I have to say I would like it better if some of the language and sex references were left out. To me neither one of these two things added to the mystery and so was not in this readers opinion necessary. That being said I liked the book. I always look at a mystery as being good if you have several possible suspects with feasible reasons they could be the murderer making you guess and surprised when you get to the end. This book does that. The setting of the Hamptons makes for an interesting addition also to the book.
Antonia runs an inn and watches houses for the rich who are only around on weekends and during the summer season. One house is where she finds the body of Warner who has been making more than a few enemies with the filming of his documentary on some of the old rich families of the Hamptons. He is not sugar coating the interviews but is going for the throat by bringing up all the scandals involving the people he is focusing on. This makes for some interesting possibilities for who done him in and keeps you puzzling through trying to figure out who murdered Warner and why. When there is two more murders in a place where nothing usually happens like this then things get really interesting and dangerous for the snooping Antonia.
This book has a good setting, and unusual plot, many twists and turns as well as several suspects that keep you guessing to the end. Antonia is strong, capable, yet at times confused, untrusting which makes her a believable character. I liked Joseph her confidante he was sensible and level headed the one she could bounce ideas off of.
Her flighty best friend Genevieve adds a quirky element too.

This is a many faceted mystery that keeps you guessing trying to figure the puzzle out with good characters and setting.

I received this book from the author for my honest opinion and review.

Death On Lily Pond Lane
By
Carrie Doyle

What it's all about...

This is another Hamptons Windmill Inn mystery starring the delightful food lover, inn keeper and sleuth...Antonia Bingham. This time a young man is murdered as well as a few other wealthy Hampton residents seemingly over a film being made about what the Hampton's are like. Is this a case of secrets, lies and videos? I think it is. A Lysol cleaning can also plays a key role in this very clever "who did it."

Why I wanted to read it...

I read the first book and loved it and now that I knew even more about the characters I really wanted to read the second book. I love recognizing Antonia's staff, her friends, even her annoying news reporter "pal" Larry Lipper. I can't believe I am saying this but Larry is starting to grow on me!

What made me truly enjoy this book...

The plot, the writing, and the situations that Antonia seems to place herself in...she is a modern day Agatha Christie. I am a huge fan of Antonia's friend Joseph, too.

Why you should read it, too...

Readers who are familiar with the Hamptons and even those who aren't...will love these cozy yet fun and exciting mysteries! Plus I love this little message that the author strategically places in each book...

Dear Reader,

You are about to finish this wonderful Dunemere book. Do not be left stranded without another one to read.

Carrie Doyle's newest book"Death On Lily Pond Lane" is the second in her Hamptons Murder Mystery Series and can be read as a stand alone book.
As a cozy mystery lover I'm always looking for new series to read so I had high hopes for this book. Unfortunately I was disappointed. This story starts out well enough but as I kept reading I found my mind wandering. I wanted more substance and more action.
Since I didn't read the first book I was a bit confused in places (example: the relationship between Antonia and Nick).
I'm hoping that in future books in this series the author fleshes out the relationship between Antonia and Joseph. I think they'll make a great detesting team. I'd also like to see more of the inn incorporated in the story.

I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily submitted an honest review.

This is the second visit to the Hamptons murder series and I must say a much improved visit! The first visit left me wondering if I liked the characters, but felt the series had potential. I'm so glad I stuck with it. This installment left me feeling that the series was much improved as the characters seemed to have more depth. The main character, Antonia, an Inn owner and self-proclaimed Chef, stayed a bit more true to the premise of intelligent, curious, truth seeking and competent. We also see her branch out in her personal life and that was a welcome addition. I'm still a feeling a bit off as the star struck friendship and blossoming feelings she has for a married celebrity don't excite me, but it is a realistic storyline that keeps the character based in reality. I also like that the main character is not cast as a regal beauty, but as a pretty and normal sized woman battling the normal issues such as weight that all normal women battle. The narcissistic, self-centered, needy, desperate best friend is improved as she actually shows an interest in the main character's life and happiness. This is a major improvement over the first book and the character develops to the point of taking an active role in actually helping Antonia investigate. I'm actually looking forward to the best friend's character taking even further steps in the next book in the series and seeing how she further fleshes out. The mystery in this book was quite interesting and had a long list of potential suspects. I enjoyed the twists and turns the were layered into the storyline. All in all, if you are looking for an interesting story set in the Hampton's, then I would definitely give this book a try. While it could be read as a stand alone story, I did like how the book built upon the foundation the first book laid so I would recommend reading the entire series. The only disclaimer I want to toss out there is if you start with the first book, make sure you follow up with the second as it is much better! I'm looking forward to the next book in the series very much so I have to give this author props as she has hooked me. If nothing else, I'm invested to see how the characters flesh out, but she also writes a decent mystery that keeps you entertained!

In the very entertaining Death on Lily Pond Lane, Antonia discovers the body of a young man who was in East Hampton to make a documentary film (really an expose) of the rich and famous on the island. Since she found the body in a house where she was serving as a caretaker, Antonia is determined to find out just what happened to Warner, and who he made angry with his documentary. There are plenty of suspects (this is East Hampton, you know), and Antonia comes up with several candidates and ruffles a few feathers.

Death on Lily Pond Lane is a real page-turner: it's fast moving, full of twists, mysterious characters and threats to Antonia, while delving more deeply into the relationships between Antonia and her friend Joseph Fowler, as well as her exuberant friend Genevieve, who both help her with her investigation. Even the usually obnoxious Larry Lipper is entertaining. Joseph is especially endearing and supportive, and also serves as a father-figure for Antonia.

This book is just as enjoyable as Carrie Doyle's first book, Death on Windmill Way, and I liked seeing Antonia come into her own as she finds herself more able to leave her troubled past behind, while making a big success of her Windmill Inn and Restaurant. There are several nail-biting moments in this story, especially toward the end, which came as a compete surprise to me. Death on Lily Pond Lane also has wonderful descriptions of East Hampton; the off-season versus the Summer season, the homes, the shops, and even has the potential of Antonia finding a little romance.

I would love to be a guest at the Windmill Inn, and I wish the book had recipes, because the dishes that Antonia comes up with in the book are original and mouthwatering. I highly recommend this book, which can either be read as a standalone, as background is provided from the first book, but you really would be missing out by not reading Murder on Windmill Way.

I voluntarily received a copy of this book, and all thoughts and opinions on it are my own.

a mystery filled with twists and turns

DEATH ON LILY POND LANE by Carrie Doyle
The Second Hamptons Murder Mystery

It's the off season in the Hamptons and Antonia Bingham has taken on extra work looking after a few estates while the owners are away. At one of her stops Antonia is surprised to discover the car of a house guest who was supposed to have already left town. She is even more surprised to find his dead body in the bathtub! In an attempt to protect the homeowners and thinking the death is a tragic accident, Antonia removes what may be a vital piece of evidence. However, the victim had been making high powered enemies by filming a documentary expose. Could his death actually be murder?

I thought for sure I knew a vital clue and was giving Antonia withering glances from my side of the book for not realizing it. I eventually discovered that I was hasty in my deductions. The object was a clue, but it wasn't what I thought it was. In fact, there were several other times that Carrie Doyle led me down paths and I willingly followed, fully believing I was correct, changing my mind a few times as I then followed new paths laid out for me. Carrie Doyle challenged me in this book, not only by the false trails left for me, but Antonia's attitude on certain subjects, and Genevieve's whole persona.

DEATH ON LILY POND LANE is a mystery filled with twists and turns, relationship conundrums, and an intriguing look at those who reside in the exclusive enclave known as the Hamptons.

I really enjoyed this book! Death on Lily Pond Lane is the second book in the Hamptons Murder Mystery series by author Carrie Doyle, the first being Death on Windmill Way, but it definitely can be read as a standalone book. The characters and mystery were well-written and well-developed, and I had a hard time putting it down, especially towards the end. Antonia Bright is the proprietor and chef at an inn in The Hamptons, and is described as a modern day Miss Marple. As an Agatha Christie fan myself, I can see the reason for the comparison - she's very clever, patient, and is able to work through the mystery until she finally solves whodunnit. The story wrapped up well, yet there were hints at series continuation with (hopefully!) the next book. All in all, a wonderful cozy mystery which I highly recommend. A+

The beautiful Hamptons, the Windmill Inn and a murder and the story is off to a good start. I didn't read the first book in the series and it might have been helpful (but not necessary) to know some of the backstory. It ends with cliff-hangers so I will be waiting for the next in the series to see how they are resolved. I received a copy of the book from the author and have voluntarily written an honest review.

Lily Pond Lane is another cozy mystery in the Hamptons Murder Series. I really enjoyed book one so decided to venture back into book 2. Very glad that I did.

This latest mystery is even more fast-paced than the murders in book 1. I love snappy dialog and this did not disappoint. The author did more to flesh out the main character and explain more details of her past without giving everything away and successfully added in more wonderful folks from the Hampton community.

A wonderful murder mystery book that provides multiple mysteries to solve along the way and never ceases to entertain. I highly recommend. Now I am off to read Mystery #3 in this set and I cannot wait.

Death on lily pond lane needed more editing. There were multiple areas where the grammar/English was incorrect.
I found the story a little convoluted . Divorced woman from a battered marriage (Antonia) starts over in East Hamptons New York. Her ex husband was a cop and when she reported his abuse the police didn't protect her. She is now distrustful of all police.
Antonia owns an Inn in East Hampton and is also a caretaker of some empty homes off season. While checking on one of her clients homes she finds a dead body. Young Warner Caruthers dead in the bath tub of one of the daughters bedrooms. Antonia reports the scene to the police but takes evidence with her. Having a distrust of the police she starts investigating the crime herself. She knows she is being followed and people are offering her money for missing film footage that Warner had made. Bodies start piling up and Antonia has to find out how they are connected.
A cute story. The ending caught me by surprise.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review from the author.

Death on Lily Pond Lane is the 2nd book in the Hampton Murders Mysteries series by Carrie Doyle.

This is the only book I've read in this series, but I was able to read this as a standalone. The only thing that wasn't explained well was the relationship to Nick, the actor.

This book was okay. It just didn't grab me and make me want to go back to read the first book.

What I liked:
- The premise of Antonia owning an inn in the Hamptons and house sitting. There's a lot of potential storylines.
- The relationship between Antonia and Joseph
- I thought I had the answer to a key element figured out early, but it wasn't what I thought it was.

What I didn't like:
- I didn't find most of the characters to be likable: Larry the reporter, Genevieve the best friend, Marty in the kitchen
- There wasn't much humor or many light-hearted moments
- The friendship that may be becoming more with a married man

I received this book as a gift and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

I liked the setting and some of the food-centric chatter in the book, but on the whole found it lacking in any one element that would set it apart as an interesting mystery.

The characters had promise, but didn't quite deliver (they seemed just a bit too "pat" or stereotypical for my taste;

The language and writing style didn't have any sparkle. . . . or humor. . . . or significant local color;

but the Inn was an appealing setting and I loved the interplay between the protagonist (inn-keeper/chef) and her elderly full-time guest.

These criticisms suggest to me that the series concept has promise, but the execution isn't strong enough to draw me back. Perhaps a really talented editor could help. . .

Net galley provided me with a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

I became a fan of the Hamptons Murder Mystery series by Carrie Doyle when I read the first book in this series, Death on Windmill Way and Doyle obtained a fan for life after I completed the second book, Death on Lily Pond Lane.

Antonia Bingham is a very busy person, she owns The Windmill Inn which is an inn and a restaurant but in Death on Lily Pond Lane she has also taken on the job of estate manager. She has a few houses on Lily Pond Lane that she checks a few times a week and is there for delivers as the owners of these beautiful massive mansions are only in the Hamptons a few months, usually in the summer.

While Antonia is checking the Masterson's house after a friend of their son Luke's was staying there doing some work, she finds out that Warner didn't leave the day before as planned. Unfortunately when Antonia goes looking for him to ask him why he has extended his visit, she finds him dead in a bathroom. It appears that Warner fell and died as a result of an accident but Antonia is not convinced.

Antonia begins looking into what Warner was working on and finds out that it was a documentary exposing some down and dirty secrets of some of the wealthy residents of the East Hamptons. While Antonia tries to organize a suspect list and narrow it down, there is another death and this time it is definitely murder !!

Readers will be on the edge of their seats while they get lost in Death on Lily Pond Lane. You will be powerless to stop reading.....you will have to know what is going on and try to help Antonia solve these murders.

I thoroughly enjoy reading this series and love that Antonia keeps away from the police because she has a bad past with them so she keeps away from them at all costs. In this series it is just Antonia, with the help of her father figure Joseph, working out the clues and finding out who the killer is and then allowing the police to get involved. This is a unique approach to cozies and one that I believe readers will enjoy. I know I have enjoyed these fist two books in the series and cannot wait another minute to start the third book, Death on West End Road. I encourage you to get your copies and catch up !!

Having grown up on the East Coast and being a Cozy mystery lover, this series was a home run for me!

Antonia Bingham is the Inn Keeper and Chef of the Windmill Inn in the Hamptons. To help in the off season she keeps an eye on several Summer homes for the locals and manages to stumble upon the body of a houseguest in one of those homes. As if taking care of her guests at the Inn and running the restaurant aren't enough to keep her busy now Antonia finds herself trying to figure out whether the dead houseguest met his fate through a terrible accident or was murdered. Toss in a two hot men that capture Antonia's interest in two very different ways and you've got yourself a page turner that makes it hard to put down.

The story keeps a good pace and I particularly like Antonia's back story and the woman she has become as a result of the hand life dealt her before arrive in the Hamptons. She's a strong and fiercely independent woman that is easy to relate to. Can't to read the book in this series and will preorder the second when it is available.

Thank you, Carrie Doyle, and Carol Fitzgerald
at Bookreporter.com for the signed copy.

DEATH ON LILY POND LANE is the second of Carrie Doyle's Hamptons murder mystery series, and I recommend reading them in sequence because there are spoilers. And although the background and characters are fully described, it helps to recall them from book one. Besides, it is a very enjoyable series and you'll want to read all of them.

Innkeeper Antonia Bingham, in order to boost her income, is checking on a couple of homes of absent owners. It is an easy task until she discovers a body in one of them. Initially, the death is ruled accidental, but Antonia's radar kicks in, leading her on a path that she'd hoped she would not see again: looking for a murderer. Soon, there are more bodies, and suspects accrue as she decides that she is in too deep to back out.

If you are a fan of cozy mysteries, you will enjoy this new series.

Another good outing by author Carrie Doyle, as we continue with Antonia Bingham and the locals that patronise the Windmill. The death of a young film-maker and the missing film footage see Antionia and her BFF investigate.

Sometimes cliches are right "its all fun and games till someone gets hurt". Soon we are left wondering just what was on this missing film that someone was prepared to kill for.

This one was a little slow moving to begin with (probably as it could easily be read as a stand-alone book), but soon the pace quickens and is wrapped up nicely at the end.

Death in Lily Pond Lane: A Hamptons Murder Mystery by Carrie Doyle has everything cozy mystery readers love. The setting in the Hamptons of New York is intriguing. Protagonist Antonia Bingham is curious and courageous, and the other characters are interesting, quirky, and fun. The whodunit plot is full of twists as Antonia searches for answers, and surprises as other characters add to the puzzle, causing readers to suspect almost every character to be the killer! Readers will want to quickly return to the Windmill Inn for another adventure with Antonia.

As this is the second book in the series, I like that I didn't have to have read the first book to get an understanding of most of the characters. Carrie Doyle does a good job of providing character backgrounds and painting a picture of the Hamptons, in particular Antonia's Windmill Inn. She gives enough information so that I was able to figure out the killer's identity. Since Antonia is a chef it would have been a nice bonus to have at least one of her recipes at the end. All in all, Death on Lily Pond Lane is a light pleasant read and I will probably go back and read the first book when I get a chance. I was given a copy of this book by the author and I am voluntarily offering my own honest opinion about the book.

I enjoyed the first book of the series, "Death on Windmill Way" but this book is even better! Death on Lily Pond Lane kept me reading into the night. I kept thinking I *knew* who did it, but then the story would twist sideways and I was back to square one.

I'm pretty sure I was meant to read this series. I entered an online contest and won a copy of this book signed by the author. I kept thinking it sounded familiar and I realized I had bought it (and the first book) on Kindle already. I'm so glad I was reminded to read this. Now that I've read the first two, I'm keeping an eye out more books by this author.

Death on Lily Pond Lane by Carrie Doyle is the second book in A Hamptons Murder Mystery series. Antonia Bingham owns the Windmill Inn in East Hampton where she is also the head chef. During the off season, she is the caretaker to two properties (while their owners are at their primary residences). Antonia is checking on the Mastersons’ property. Warner Caruthers, a friend of Luke Masterson, had been staying in the guest quarters, but he was supposed to have departed the previous day. Antonia searches the house for Warner and finds him in Eleanor’s bathroom (one of the Mastersons’ daughters). He is dead in the bathtub. Antonia calls the police and then quickly hides something from the bathroom. Antonia’s nosiness and dislike of police officers leads her to investigate his death. It turns out that Warner was doing a documentary that portrayed the wealthy town residents in a bad light (and they do not appreciate Antonia’s sticking her nose into their business). Can Antonia find the culprit before the killer finds her?

Death on Lily Pond Lane was a snooze fest. I found the book to be boring. The book only has 308 pages, but it felt twice the length. The mystery was basic (predictable). I was able to identify the killer very early in the book (before I was quarter of the way through the story). This is the second book in A Hamptons Murder Mystery series, but Death on Lily Pond Lane can be read alone. The case from the first book is mentioned more than once during the course of the novel as well as why Antonia relocated to East Hampton. Actually, many things are replicated throughout the book. The reader is subjected to the details of Antonia’s failed marriage many times (she is divorced from a cop that abused her and caused the death of her father). I give Death on Lily Pond Lane 2 out of 5 stars. I just felt it was too simple. It was like the author used a cozy mystery checklist when writing (to make sure the book had the required elements). I also did not like the main character very much or her flighty best friend. Antonia puts herself down especially about her appearance and it is off-putting. I wanted to like Death on Lily Pond Lane, but it was just not the right book for me.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair review. Antonia Bingham is at it again. After finding the body of a young man in a house for which she was a part time care taker, Antonia begins investigating on her own with help from Joseph who has moved into her inn full time. Despite running the inn and restaurant and her personal life which is becoming more complicated by the day, she cannot bring herself to trust the police. The bodies are adding up, she thinks she has a stalker and one of her guest is definitely hiding something. I love the friendship developing between Antonia and Joseph as well as seeing all the returning character develop. Ms. Doyle's sense of humor makes the story so much more relatable and the mystery kept me guessing until the reveal of "whodunnit". I have truly enjoyed both the books in this series and recommended the Hamptons Murder Mysteries to all my reader friends.

Another great adventure with Toni and her friend-made family. I'm liking the characters more and more each book. Still a little over done on what seems like unnecessary descriptions but at this point it adds to the charm of the story. I love how different this mystery and reveal was from the first so it's clear to see Carrie Doyle has a great imagination and knows how to keep you reading and guessing until the end. I'm looking forward to reading more in this series.

Death on Lily Pond Lane by Carrie Doyle catches you right from the start. This is the second book in A Hamptons Murder Mystery series, but is a stand-alone book and it doesn’t disappoint. Carrie Doyle does an excellent job of creating vivid, descriptive scenes that place you in the middle of the action and storyline. The characters are well developed and interesting as well as believable. The premise of the story is intriguing and has you second-guessing yourself, each character, and everyone’s motives.

Plus there are other storylines occurring in the book, which keep you wondering what will happen next. The story is mixed in with some humor and descriptions of some yummy sounding food. Carrie Doyle also gives you a little peak into "the Hamptons" and what it's like during on and off seasons.

This is my first time reading Carrie Doyle and A Hamptons Murder Mystery book and I am looking forward to reading more of her work.

I willingly provided an honest review after receiving a copy of this book.

I really enjoyed this book! It got me hooked right away and I had to find out how it was going to end. I have not read the first book in the series, but I liked this one so much that I will have to look for it. I wasn't lost at all by not reading the first book. And the end of the book definitely has a teaser so I will have to be on the lookout for the next in the series.

Antonia and Joseph have a very nice relationship. And Antonia is lucky to have a friend like Genevieve. They were fun to read about.

The only thing that would have made the book better would have been recipes for some of the muffins Antonia and Sam made. Roasted Pepper and Feta? Bacon and Fig? They sound very interesting.

Thanks for the entertainment!

Fun mystery set in the Hamptons.

Antonia runs an inn in the Hamptons and the season is just ramping up.

So of course she encounters a dead body while doing her second job, checking people's Summer homes to make certain they are in good shape.

Antonia is a bit of a busybody (as most prime characters in cozy mysteries are otherwise there would not be much of a story :) ) but she is a sweet and fun character to see through the eyes of. She is flawed and a bit broken which just makes her more lovable. She is also in love with a married man.

Into her life comes another man, a chef like herself. He is charming and handsome and they hit it off.

Antonia's love of carbs is near and dear to my heart and her desire to solve the puzzle that is this murder is understandable. She doesn't necessarily trust the police to do their job for personal reasons of her own.

I will be looking for the first book in the series.

A fun, crazy read with quirky characters and lots of twists and turns!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I have found another new cozy author to follow! This book is the second in the Hampton murder mystery series. It can be read as a stand-alone. Antonia is the owner of the Windmill Inn and in the off season takes on a second job of keeping an eye on the "vacation" homes of the rich. This books includes a murder, a scandelous documentary, a famous actor, some dysfunctional romance, great quirky characters, lots of twists and turns and two cliff-hangers at the end which makes you crave for the next book in the series! Who is Bridget? What was she doing there? Will Sam return? What will Nick do? All questions left with the reader of this second book of the series. A fun, crazy, must read! Can't wait for the next books in the series! I was given a copy of this book by the author. I am voluntarily offering my own honest opinion about the book.
