The foremost Elizabethan tragedian next to William Shakespeare, he is known for his magnificent blank verse, his overreaching protagonists, and his own mysterious and untimely death.

Marlowe toes the line expertly between gratuitous gore and humor. He is the dark shadow of Shakespeare who uses his work to communicate the fears of unparalleled power and no separation of church and state even before the modern era.
