A SERIES: THE MISSING (L.A.P.D. Special Investigations Book 4) by Linda Style Reviewer: Charlotte M. Liebel
The creative, eye-opening researcher and journalistic novice writes ‘in your face’ stories for “The Achilles' Heel” magazine in California. Best friend and former father-in-law lives on a ranch, alone, and Julianna accepts his invitation to visit. About this time, her ex-husband shows up unexpectedly. Of course, Detective Luke Coltrane meets with a 911 prowler call by local police as he tries making his night visit after years of absence. This encounter might have triggered Julianna’s higher anxiety because she is running from a potential killer.
Unfortunately, Luke and Juliana had gone through personal tragedy that ended in divorce. Dad and son do not connect emotionally, as well. The threesome are incompatible. Well and good if all can leave a helper for Abe and end their unfinished business. However, complications have already been set.
Abe is ill with complications. Julianna (Jules) is trying to complete the magazine’s article by deadline. Luke is working on two high profile cases with contacts in Los Angeles.
Things could get worse. Abe and Julianna get along, fine. She confides in him. It’s a long shot, but Abe confides in Luke about Jules’ safety. Suddenly, Luke hits on the connection from his past resources in his detective work and the stories that Jules is writing. Also, Abe recognizes smoldering ashes ready to be ignited. This story is an impressive read toward sustaining happiness from a man’s point-of-view. Dad and son, here, exchange valuable words of wisdom. It’s a two-way exchange for couples, as well.
A lot of stuff is going down, now. Readers are learning about Luke’s distancing problems with Jules. Detectives are covering Luke’s diversified options. Cold cases, as well as the current ones, are on the table. Luke gets a couple of his pals to look into stored files. Linked witnesses, murders, suspects, and disappearing family members get attention. Sudden flashbacks alert readers to zoom in on suspects!

Wow need a book that has you guessing, thinking, feeling and dreaming - then this one for youl
Spectacular a few mysteries, dysfunctional family, first loves and a Harrell of other thoughtful treasures. This book is perfect for newly engaged couples a new life together has many hurdles how you handle them makes all the difference. A real Page' turner. Luke a detective a LAPD has a great group of friends that are his family and a wife/ex wife he is still in love with, he never gotten over her divorce didn't stop his love. Jules a writer really leans toward D's profiler n detective its pretty amazing. Violence2, sex2

'The Missing' was so full of emotions. The story line was intense and well written. The way it played out really played with my emotions. The premise was of a dark nature, but the author truly brought it to life. I love a good romance. Luke and Julianna were the epitome of a great marriage that folds under the worst traumatic event ever. But their love for each other really shines life back into the union. A great add to your tbr list.

This was quite the exciting book. I was able to read it in one sitting. It has great characters. The author lets you feel their pain and anguish after losing a child. They show determination to find the serial killer and to get their lives back together. I loved the plot. The book is full of ups and downs. I will be looking into more books from this author. A great read!

Complicated emotions and mystery kept me hooked
Writer explores psychological facets of dealing with grief while taking reader on convoluted mystery ride. Liked realistic police work details as well as mostly realistic emotions of romance . Didnt like or relate to drawn out obtuse behavior of main characters. That said, enjoyed book .
