A slim collection of 21 short stories, poems and interviews on the topic of baseball which appeared in a self-proclaimed baseball literary magazine. The quality level of the selections is inconsistent (which gives one pause if this is the best the publication has to offer). A piece by former major leaguer Jim Brosnan and an interview with him were highlights and the final short story enabled the collection to end on a high note, so I'm giving it a generous three stars.
This is an example of the kind of baseball book one doesn't see very often, notwithstanding how much good baseball literature there is. It is a collection of interviews, poems, short stories, and essays.... There are a few very large collections, but the subtitle says what you need to know about this book: the literary baseball magazine.
