Four disparate tales of varying Three fiction, but inspired by fact; one true, as best the writer can recall. The title is that of the first story, but it can apply figuratively to all four. With striking paradox, especially in the true story, the author seems to be positing a cosmos overseen by a Supreme Ironist.
