Olivia Davenport's plan is destined to fail.

She is going through with it anyway, of course. After all, it is the chance of a lifetime. The unreasonable rules of others should not stand in her way.

In her small kingdom of Stewartsland, Olivia trains with the squires and harbors a secret dream. She longs to become a knight under the command of the Master-of-Arms, who just happens to be her father. He has indulged her passion so far, but they both know a simple fact - girls may not attain knighthood. Dismayed by the constant discouragement of her ambitions, she makes an impetuous decision to disguise herself as a boy in order to sneak on a mission. The consequences are not at all what she anticipated.

When her deception is revealed, she is sent home in disgrace; however, an unexpected turn of events puts her at the center of a dangerous plot against the King. The ensuing adventure finds her grappling with mercenaries and outlaws, yet these pale in comparison to her newly awakened emotions. She finds not only her life at risk, but also her heart, when the aloof Prince Liam begins to affect her in ways she never thought possible. In the end, it is her courage and unique spirit which must guide her through the challenges she encounters both physical and emotional.

"Oh yes, because this is every girl's ultimate wish. I don't get the princess fantasy—the adult-perpetuated myth that every little girl should dream of becoming a princess. Because you live happily ever after, right? This presumption is unconvincing to me. True princes are a rare find. So let's face it, the odds of becoming an actual princess are slim at best. Girls should be taught to create their own happiness."

Copy of book sent to me by author in exchange for an honest review.

I had seen this book around on Instagram when my friend Logan read it and really liked it. I wanted to read it but I kinda forgot about it until the author sent me a copy. I was pretty excited to start this book and I wasn't disappointed.

I was really surprised by how Olivia was so interesting and different. I didn't find her annoying and she was really well written. She was pretty awesome.
I really think that she's a good example of the kind of female characters that YA needs more of.

Olivia and the plot reminded me Mulan and it was one of my favorite things about this book. Mulan is one of my favorite movies so reading a book that was similar (in a good way) was so much fun. I loved the character development and how the story progressed.

Overall, I really enjoyed Not Every Girl. I'm definitely to be getting a paperback of this book because I really want it on my shelves. If you're looking for a great YA with an awesome main character, I highly recommend Not Every Girl.

I was a little hesitant to read this one when Jane e-mailed me because there was virtually nothing about this book other than on Amazon. It's not even on Goodreads! I will have to fix that. But, when I started reading Not Every Girl, all my hesitations went away. Jane managed to suck me in to this world and story in no time at all.

Olivia Davenport is the daughter of the King's Master At Arms. She has been training with the squires for many years, and dreams of being a knight. But, Olivia is a girl and her mother has told her that she must put a stop to her training and be a proper young woman. Olivia wants none of that. A chance encounter with the mysterious Prince Liam throws her on a course which changes her life for the better.

I really liked Olivia. It is really hard for me to like many main characters in books these days because they are shallow, flat, snowflakes, etc. Olivia was none of those things. She was a refreshing drink of water in a sea of MCs that are often too similar. She did not take no as an answer and she used her clever mind to achieve her dream, even if it was sneaky.

Her deception tactics made me think of Mulan! It was so similar but in a good way. Olivia's whole thought process throughout the whole book was that girls can do what boys can do, no matter what society says. She really proved her worth many times, and I was rooting for her the whole way.

This quote pretty much sums up Olivia's character.

I loved her relationship with her father. He had always been proud of her since she was the son he never had, and he never saw her as just a girl. I know there were some tense moments between the two, but everything worked out. Her relationship with her mother left a lot to be desired. It made me sad to read how cold her mother was towards her, because she was not like her other sisters. Mothers should support their children in their dreams!

The world building and settings were very well done! The descriptions were detailed, but not to the point where one would get bored.

I thoroughly enjoyed how Liam and Olivia's relationship was written. Yes, there was a touch of insta-love from Olivia, but she even mentioned how that was not normal for her. Plus, it was a slow building relationship. We first see the prince as a haughty and arrogant royal, but underneath his exterior is someone completely different, which surprised me. He really came into his own.

Athos and his men added a wonderful level to the story. I enjoyed reading about this mysterious band of outlaws who were also not what they seemed to be.

The only complaint I had about this book was that the dialogue felt too modern for me. It did not sound like a medieval type book based on the language. That tends to happen in fantasy books, and although it would have added to the authenticity of the setting, it did not detract from the story.

After finishing Not Every Girl I am eagerly awaiting a sequel to see where our two heroes will end up. There was also the issue of a certain bad guy at the end, so I am hoping the next book will feature him as well.

Fans of medieval fantasy will enjoy this hidden gem of a book! Thank you Jane for giving me a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Imagine the tandem Pride and Prejudice and Mulan. This is what you get.

And yes, expect that our heroine Olivia Davenport is a mash of Elizabeth Bennet and Mulan Fa. It’s actually wonderful. Olivia comes from a family of parents and five sisters and her father favors her a lot too, which is very Lizzy like if you’ll ask me. But I’m afraid she is a weakling to her desire, which brings her to deceive Puck, her own best friend, and replace him on the mission she wants badly for herself. That’s when the familiar cutting of hair happens, except this time it’s blonde not black, and for entirely different reasons.

I almost loathed her for it, almost because let’s not practice not being judgmental and there will be no story if she did not do it. If we will look over her alleged mistake, Olivia’s a likeable girl – your edgy, adventurous, and tenacious kind of character. Sadly, the only other personality I enjoyed in the book and more than Olivia is Lydia, the youngest of the sisters. She’s pretty much Olivia, except five and innocent.

So what about the hero? His name is Liam, and a prince. Under timely unconventional circumstances Olivia and Liam meets. With her sooted state and his princely ambiance, we all know who has the upper hand. At that moment, his character promises a personality of playful and witty regality, but if he really is so, unfortunately that side of him is not elaborated as much as we wish.

Olivia’s actions bring them back together inadvertently and after a bit of here and there they find themselves together, scandalous for their time but since a prince is highly taken for, they’re off the hook and there they get to know how much they understand each other, kindling a wee spark of romance.

The story embarks them to a most anticipated adventure in a battle of medieval -swords, thieves, knights, and castles- but I think your vivid imagination will have to do for the epicness of the fight as the story focuses on different matter and I think the writing is a wee bit short on painting the whole picture in mind.

Wholly, I totally like the book, quick and mild read. I’ll recommend this to anyone who loves historical fiction, except if anyone wants a writing as old as the story.

Thanks to Jane McGarry for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This isn't your typical books about fairytales and happily-ever-afters. The character buildup is very realistic and empowering. Olivia is a strong character. She stood up for what she believed in and proved to everyone and herself that she can do what men can, even planning and fighting a war. I like that the story doesn't revolve around her masquerading as a boy. I was afraid that this was one of those Mulan rip-offs. Instead, the real action begins when she is being truthful to herself and to others.

And the romance is not sappy or forced. It is not like one of those epic star-crossed lovers that they will die for each other blah blah blah. I like that they take their time to get to know each other before falling in love. They are not codependent but trust each other. They are strong and capable of defending oneself, even if the other is not around. I hate those couples where the only one (usually men) is strong and great at battle, and the other is just resourceful or smart. Thank God Prince Liam and Olivia isn't one of those couples. Some parts of the story, you find those two funny and quirky.

Not Every Girl is action-packed but light read, definitely one of my favorite books.

*Jane very kindly sent this book to me for an honest review*

I rated this book 4/5 for the excellent and engaging writing style which hooked me into the story. I personally found it hard to get passed the first 25% of the story (reading slump *cries*) but once I was passed this part I loved the book. I was kind of out of my depth when I read this book as it was out of my usual genre because I usually stick to YA romance etc. and there was not much to go on!

I follow Jane on my book Instagram account, which is how I found out about her debut novel. For me, this was very hyped up and it did not disappoint. I loved the relationship with Prince Liam and Olivia as it was not too soppy...goals!

If you are looking for a book full of action, adventure, and a leading lady that wants nothing more than to be a knight. This is the book for you.

I loved this book from the very first chapter. Olivia is such a great character and her development through out the book is flawless. Prince Liam is a wonderful character as well and I love how they interacted. I also enjoyed how it wasn't really an insta-love. I mean they fell in love over the span of a week but it was so cute how it blossomed. I found myself laughing out loud at some parts of this story and I would recommend it to anyone who likes stories that resemble fairy tales. Not because it was a fairy tale but it just felt that way to me.

Please go and follow Jane McGarry!! She is so sweet and awesome!!!

I had nothing but high expectations for this book, I had read the first couple chapters and was instantly pulled in! Jane was so kind and generous for offering to send me a review copy of her book, and when I received it I marathoned it. I did not realize how fast I was reading it, I finished it in less then two days.

Not Every Girl is so empowering, it's one big adventure filled with action, humour and romance! One of the best author debut novels that I have read. A solid 5 out of 5 stars.

Thanks Jane for sending me a free copy to R&R. I couldn't imagine not having read this and have this book in my thoughts. It was a very good read with visual text, imagery, well involved characters, love, romance, willpower, intrigue, battles, action and adventure and so much more. I became entranced with the characters. My heart would warm and I would root for the main character hoping the best for her or gasp when the adventure would begin. Think of a medieval Mulan-esque adventure. Thank you so much for sharing this with me.

So I just read this in one sitting. Thank you Jane so much for sending me a review copy!! This sort of reminded me of Mulan. All Olivia wants is to be a knight. The only thing holding her back is the fact that she is a girl. She's such a strong character and definitely proves that being a girl has no limits. And Liam. I wuv him.

This book reminded me of Mulan in some aspects and I loved it! Olivia was such a strong character and I loved that she made it her mission to show that girls can do what boys can do and sometimes better. I really enjoyed this book and I'm glad that Jane Mcgarry contacted me and sent me her book in exchange for an honest review.

Olivia has been training with the squires in hopes that one day her father will give in and let her become a knight, but she knows that it’s a long shot, even if her father is the Master-of- Arms girls can’t be Knights. When she finds out her father is going to escort the King to a meeting she devises a plan to dress like a boy and go on the mission. When she gets caught Prince Liam offers himself as an escort to take her back home, but on the way back a series of events put Olivia in the adventure she was looking for while she deals with her new found feelings for the Prince, which for her is a whole new territory.

I love this book especially our main character Olivia she is such a kick ass girl, she doesn't take crap from anyone and when someone tells her she can't do something she proves them wrong. I also loved, loved the story McGarry wrote between Prince Liam and Olivia it was so refreshing and Liam was ah he was so perfect and yes, I have added Prince Liam to me ever growing list of fictional boyfriends. I also really loved Jane Mcgarry's world building; the way she described the scenery just painted such a clear picture it was like I was there. This book kept me up to the wee hours of the night, I just needed to know how it ended; I really hope there's a sequel I need more of Liam and Olivia, did I mention I need more Liam.

I love when I find hidden gems and this one is definitely one. I would recommend this book to anyone that is in the mood for a funny, romance, fantasy, with a strong female character; even if you're not in the mood for anything I mentioned I really recommend this book. Like I said it reminded me of Mulan and who doesn't love a book that shows that girls can do anything boys can!

I have had this book for a while now to review and I am so glad that I finally took the time to sit down and read it. The world and characters that McGarry has created are done so well, I found myself staying up late just to read one more chapter, which we all know is never just one.

The main character, Olivia, was definitely an interesting girl. Her personality was fun and witty I loved her personality throughout the story. There definitely was a touch of Mulan like similarities in the story, which I loved!

The setting of the story, the storyline and the character relationships were all awesomely written. Most of all I enjoyed the relationship that Livy shares with her youngest sister Lydia, there was just such a sweet innocence between the two. Then there is Prince Liam... even though there was a slight touch of the insta-love factor, I felt that their relationship grew nicely. The dialogue between Oliva and Liam was fun and refreshing.

There were a few quotes from the book I had highlighted while reading so I thought I would share those with you guys:

"I don't get the princess fantasy—the adult-perpetuated myth that every little girl should dream of becoming a princess. Because you live happily ever after, right? This presumption is unconvincing to me. True princes are a rare find. So let's face it, the odds of becoming an actual princess are slim at best. Girls should be taught to create their own happiness."
"Happily ever after is a myth. There are some obstacles even love cannot overcome."
"My father always says that daring plans like these largely come down to three things–planning, courage, and luck; the first and the second are within your control, but unfortunately in the end, there isn't much you can do about luck."
Not Every Girl was a fun quick read and I am definitely interested in where Olivia's adventures go from here.

Not Every Girl has pretty much everything you want in a fantasy book. Excitement. A well-built world. A handsome prince. A spunky heroine.

Olivia grows up in a world of expectations. She knows what her future will look like - become a bride, forced to sit at home and let her husband have the adventures. That doesn't sit well with her. She's spent her life training with the squires, but never truly being one of them. She's a girl. She can't. So when the king announces a journey into another land, she disguises herself as a boy to go along. It isn't long before she's discovered and forced to turn back towards home in the unexpected company of the prince. On their journey home, they make some discoveries and meet some people that ultimately leave them with a choice. Return home as ordered - or risk everything to save the kingdom.

What I loved: Prince Liam is written perfectly. He's brooding with a hidden tenderness and a desire for things to be different in his life. The authors ability to form similarities between the two main characters when they are from very different walks of life is something to behold. It makes the story poignant and real. The other ancillary characters are also well done and the plot holds an enormous amount of excitement and creativity to delight the reader.

What was just okay: Olivia has a selfish streak that makes her hard to like at times, particularly in the beginning. All she can seem to see is what she wants for her life. It makes her a bit sullen. That does get better as she grows as a result of events in the story.

A story that keeps you turning page after page in anticipation, leaving you with the feeling that it isn't a book you'll soon forget.

Not Every Girl is definitely my new favorite book. So good. From the very beginning it had me on the edge. It was one of those books where you just didn't know what would happen next! I expected a crappy love triangle, but got a wonderful love story. It wasn't another Romeo & Juliet with star crossed lovers, it was just beautiful. Price Liam wasn't overly sweet or anything, but I loved that. He was a gentleman & treated Livy with respect, proved his love for her, and kept his word. He is seriously boyfriend goals. But the story wasn't some sappy love story, it was full of action. Olivia is a great role model! She is strong, independent, brave and so much more. I have to say though, my favorite character was Athos. ;) The ending was amazing. It didn't leave me crying or dying for the sequel, but left me satisfied with how it turned out & still craving more. Cannot wait to read the next book! Jane, you done a wonderful job on this! One word to describe this: AMAZING.

I recommend this to anyone who loves historic fiction or just wants to read an amazing book!

A quick read with engaging characters, betrayal, unexpected allies, battles, friendship and romance.

Not Every Girl wants to be a knight. Olivia does. Olivia is a great heroine - except for the way she gets herself onto the mission, that was seriously not cool - she's passionate, honest, dedicated, protective, and the very definition of brave. She also has a tendency to babble. I also liked Prince Liam. He can be a haughty prince but he's also a courageous fighter, a gallant protector and a sweet guy.

I enjoyed the romance between Olivia and Prince Liam. It's not love at first sight exactly, neither make a very good first impression but there is definitely an awareness of each other. Forced together on the journey and facing foes they develop a friendship that slowly deepens into a romantic relationship filled with respect and care. I liked them together, despite their differences of birth they have a lot in common and I think they brought out the best in each other.

Love, love, love!! A must read! So many books, so little time. Well, I'm sure glad that I took the time to read this one. If you are looking for a fun read with a bad-ass heroine, a handsome prince and lots of adventure, then this book is for you. You will be taken away to a beautiful land and will feel like you are taking this adventure alongside Olivia and Prince Liam. Be prepared for late nights as this is hard to put down. Well worth the bags under my eyes. Looking forward to the sequel and many more exciting things to come from Jane McGarry!

Thank you to Jane McGarry for sending me a free ecopy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

First of all, It’s quite good and decent read and I think it’s a great start for a debut Author. Though I haven’t enjoyed it as much as expected but still I liked it. It’s intriguing synopsis is what made me interested to check this out. The plot wasn’t deep but it was interesting enough to make it an engaging read.

It’s the story of a girl named Olivia Davenport, daughter of King’s Master of Arms. Every girl of her age dreams of being a princess but what Olivia wants to be is quite opposite from it. Since young, Olivia has been training with other squires who are under the command of her father and she always dreams of being a knight but she can’t attain knighthood just because she is a girl. When her father refuses to take her along with all the other squires for a mission, she feels angry and disappointed. But Olivia is a stubborn girl who doesn’t give up easily, she disguises herself as a boy to sneak in to the mission. When she was found out, her father sends her back to her home along with prince Liam as her escort. She was once again disappointed but she didn’t expected that there would be another adventure awaits her and during her journey she discovers love that is impossible.

Olivia is clever, brave, stubborn, independent girl who stands up for what she wants. She is pretty much likable character who is easy to connect but I did get annoyed by her sometimes though. I didn’t liked her when she deceived her best friend Puck who trusted her. Liam is perfect prince character who is calm, regal and charming. I don’t know why Olivia is so quick to judge him after the first meeting because he doesn’t have any mean streak in him and I didn’t saw any arrogance from him like you normally see in all the princes. My main issue with this book is the insta-love from Olivia’s side and I also felt the romantic relationship didn’t portrayed well in it. I would’ve loved it more if their relationship developed slowly with more interactions between them. The chemistry between them seemed lacking and it felt quite awkward to me. Apart from romance in the book, I loved everything in it. As for the supporting characters, I really liked Athos and he is my favorite character from the book. Athos may be an outlaw but he is a wise guy with great knowledge and I always loved his sarcastic talk.

The plot is simple but it’s really amazing and also the best part of the book. All the characters are well-written and it has good world building too. The writing style may not be creative but it’s quite impressive. The rescue mission with the help of band of outlaws is the part that I enjoyed reading the most.

Overall, I enjoyed reading it! I liked the story line and how the plot was developed. It’s a good adventurous historical teen novel with strong female protagonist. It’s a light read and can be finished in one sitting. Do I recommend it? yes, I would definitely recommend it.

Sweet

This is a fairly sweet inoffensive little story. Girl power and all that. I'm not big on insta-love but I appreciate that it was addressed. I also don't really like the MC as she's a horrible selfish entitled little brat for a good chunk of the story, but whatever. I get it. It mostly works.

Disclaimer: I received a free electronic copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

This was a light, quick read, and I finished it in just two days! I liked how there was a ton of action, adventure, and excitement doused in with the romance. And this was set in a medieval kingdom!!! Now, this wasn’t the best book I’ve read. It felt too fast and too little developed in many parts, and it’s not one that will exactly stick out in my mind. I did see some places that could have been improved, but overall, it was a nice read. Although it did not click for me fully, it might be a nice match for you!

There was definitely a lot of action and adventure in the book. I mean, it’s medieval era with swords and knights and outlaws hidden in the woods (it felt borderline fantasy, but that’s a discussion for another day). You definitely just want more! And the romance was pretty cute. It’s one of those books that once you end (even with all the danger and death) you would go “Awww. So cute.” I really liked how the main character’s disobedience led to the adventure of a lifetime, which was full of suspense and thrill that put you on the edge of your seat. It’s such a fast read that I finished it in like two days!

This book needed to be developed more. It was a nice story, but there were a few plot holes that made me puzzled. In addition, the pacing felt too quick. Some of the events that happened were forgettable, and the relationship between the characters was too “clicking.” If there was more filler that helped developed the relationships between the characters more, some of the plot holes would have been fixed and it would seem more realistic. I even forgot a couple of characters who were important for the development of the book, and I couldn’t remember when they were first introduced. It was a very fast read, but it could have slowed down a bit.

Overall, this book was pretty decent. It was definitely fun and I did enjoy trying to read it as I grilled dinner for my family (yes, I read while I grill outside- so what?). I really liked being on the edge of my seat and wanting to know what will happen next while seeing Olivia and Liam’s romance blosoom. I’ll recommend this for fans of historical romances, medieval adventures, and strong female characters. It’s a nice book to finish before you go to bed at “knight.” (*thigh slap* Ha ha, good one, Kester!)

The world and characters that McGarry has created are done so well, I found myself staying up late just to read one more chapter, which we all know is never just one.

The main character, Olivia, was definitely an interesting girl. She was fun and witty, I loved her personality throughout the story. There definitely was a touch of Mulan-like similarities in the story, which I loved!

The setting of the story, the storyline and the character relationships were all awesomely written. Most of all I enjoyed the relationship that Livy shares with her youngest sister Lydia, there was just such a sweet innocence between the two. Then there is Prince Liam... Rven though there was a slight touch of the insta-love factor, I felt that their relationship grew nicely.

Not Every Girl was a fun, quick read and I am definitely interested in where Olivia's adventures go from here. I highly recommend this book and would love to hear your thoughts after you have read it. As always, the link to purchase can be found at the top of this review.

I honestly can’t decide how I feel about this one, so it’s hard to rate. The premise of a girl who convinces her dad to let her train as a squire is right up my alley. She pretends to be a boy so she can accompany the army to a neighboring castle, which is something I usually find highly entertaining. Olivia is a tough character. I liked her close relationship with her dad. I like that she recognizes her faults and is quick to admit them. I like her determination and level head. She was everything I like in a character. Liam was a great character too. I liked his sensitivity. You don’t see that often in a prince character and it translated perfectly. He never seemed too weak or wimpy. The plot and pacing were well done also. It was interesting and built up well.

With all of that, I keep thinking I should have been head over heels for this story. Instead, I found it a good, solid read. The only problems I can pinpoint were some terminology and descriptions that kind of threw me out of the story. At one point Olivia says her mom was freaking out (too modern for a story about knights). There were also some very minor plot points that just didn’t add up for me. Oh, and Olivia becoming a blabbermouth when nervous didn’t seem to fit with the rest of her controlled, strategic personality. Overall, I think it is just a matter of preference, that the style of writing didn’t resonant with me like some other author’s voices do. Still, I will be getting the sequel. I’m excited to see Olivia use more of her skills as a fighter and a strategist. I think there’s a lot to like in this book and many of you will absolutely love it all. But, until I read book two, I just remain here on the fence. ;)

I’m actually a little surprised at the number of positive reviews. There does seem to be a consensus that the plot is recycled and I wouldn’t disagree with that. However, I do enjoy YA novels and I can’t help but like the girl power, female breaking hierarchical customs and gender roles and all that. That wasn’t my issue with this book. In fact, it was probably the ONLY thing I did like about the book.

This seems to be a YA book and, in some ways, it is...but the characterizations honestly come across as more middle school. The plot, events, lead ups, and style of writing is just so unrealistic, not engaging, and cringey. This book was seriously difficult to get through because it didn’t hold your attention and I spent more time rolling my eyes or scoffing than actually reading.

The character and relationship development is-again- unrealistic and hard to follow/understand. The protagonist is just annoying. She makes weird jumps in assumptions, is so quick to random and unjustified fury, and spends so much time talking about how different she is from all the other girls and what’s expected of her as a female but then...she literally falls for Liam in such a RIDICULOUS and stereotyped way that you almost want to laugh. And the dialogue between characters is just so forced and rushed and really not mapped out well.

I finished it but it’s definitely not one I’ll ever come back to or recommend.

Olivia Davenport is not your run-of-the-mill girl - her father, the King's master at arms, has allowed her to become a squire and to indulge her childhood fantasies about becoming a knight someday. Some members of her family heartily approve, while others, including her mother, do not.

When a call to duty comes to spirit her father off to battle, Olivia begs to come, only to be told that the fantasy is done, she cannot become a knight, it's time to grow up.

Well, that just won't do.

In much the way that the title character of Mulan did in the classic Disney film, Olivia disguises herself as a boy and rides to join the fray, hoping no one will notice. What could possibly go wrong? Adding to the difficulties are her burgeoning feelings for the handsome Prince Liam, who she knows deep down is too far above her station to ever have a relationship with, to say nothing of what will happen when her subterfuge is discovered.

I really did enjoy this book. Olivia is a capable heroine: tough, independent, and still dutiful. The characters were well-realized (though I wish they could have been expanded more than they wore) and the ending was on the predictable side. Even so, I would still recommend this story to teens (especially girls) between 12 and 16.

What is it about?

Olivia Davenport takes a chance to be the squire she dreams to be. So she disguises herself as a boy and sets off on a trip only to have her plan fail. However, Olivia runs into unexpected adventures along the way and even a romance with Prince Liam.

What I do I think?

Not Every Girl by Jane McGarry given to me by my book club to review. So thank you for this opportunity! Honestly anytime I get the chance to read anything just brightens up my day!

Anyways, this is a story about going against the grain and marching to the beat of your own drum. However, for me personally, it was a recycled story. It's been told many times so when you write stories like this you have to throw your own flare into it and make it stand out the best you can. This is exactly like fairytale retellings in my mind. Sadly, I think it was fairly average. It definitely wasn't terrible by any means but it didn't have a strong voice. I had trouble paying attention to the story and my mind wandered so often I ended up skipping through the chapters. I don't know how the romance or the characters developed; it simply doesn't catch your attention or keep it.

Thank you ♡ Readers, what did you guys think?

This was a book with some mixed feelings. I liked that Olivia is independent and fights for what she wants, but I found her methods annoying at times. She didn’t particularly seem to think things through at all including her management of her friendship with Puck. Her insta-attraction didn’t have any grounding to me, which I struggled to get over. I didn’t feel the chemistry between Olivia and Liam and so I found most of their interactions somewhat awkward.

That being said, Olivia is no wilting flower and stands up for herself. She proves herself valuable at many points in the journey both to herself and the kingdom. The adventure kept me guessing and the twists kept the story from becoming predictable. I think this would be a PERFECT book to give a tween who wants a casual read with light romance without going to far.

Warning: Contains violence

Who should read it? Fiction fans that are looking for fiction without an overwhelming romance aspect.
