As it says this is a bathroom reader with short episodes of all kinds of Michigan topic, history, businesses, weird doings, etc. This reader is good for short reads for when time is short. Most are interesting. Any that catch your interest to learn more should be investigated further in other books.
I really liked all of the fun facts in this book. My favorite fact in this book was that the buick car company all started from a company that originally made toilet bowls. The writing style is like an interesting history book. This novel is somewhat faster paced. I would recommend this book to someone who has a good sense of humor and likes history
Considering I've never been big on educational books, I have to admit this one wasn't bad. I've never really read any of the "Bathroom Reader" series, but the ones I have read I thought were pretty decent. I must say, I was quite surprised to find that there was a Bathroom reader book about Michigan. I am even more surprised about some of the things I read in said book. There was a lot I didn't know before I read this book. On top of that, this book is good for many different age frames, because it has lots of word searches and stuff like that for various ages. If there was anything I really didn't like about this book, it's that it did get kind of boring to read in certain topics, and I think the book could have been organized a little differently. At times, it does seem like the book is really written in a totally random order, Like, instead of writing the book by topic, it just writes in random order. The ONLY other thing I didn't like was that the book would split certain stories in parts. Like, for example, "The Best Business Deal in History" was split up into three parts of the book, and I personally don't think it needed to be split up like that. On a positive note, most of the stories and games and such were generally only a page or two long, so it was a very easy read and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to learn a thing or two about the interesting state of Michigan.
Very Entertaining and full of fun facts to remember as you drive across the wonderful state of Michigan. I was hoping for more facts and stories about the state itself, its natural resources and culture, but instead found the book heavily focused on the auto industry and Motown musicians. Those are, of course, important parts of Michigan's, and America's, history, but make for pretty dry reading. There was also a bit too much focus on the University of Michigan for my taste, but that could just be my Michigan State bias coming through :)
If you're from Michigan and you enjoy the different tourist areas around our state and the historical stories that come along with it, you will enjoy having this book on the back of your commode. This book covers everything from the history of the automobile to the outhouse races in the winter in the U.P. to Pirates and Magic Johnson. Not every story is going to be interesting to everyone, but there are a number of gems and trivia facts that are entertaining.
A fun book on Michigan that predominantly uses a 2-3 page essay on a variety of topics on Michigan. It is surprisingly heavy on history, and I learned quite a few interesting tidbits of trivia. Well worth the read!
