Absolute waste of time. One of the very few books that I regretted reading. Tone of the Mind (read author) is so authoritative as if he is bigger than Buddha, Krishna, Jesus or anyone for that matter whoever was born in this world and achieved greatness. There are lot of stories that are so shallow to justify the point the author tries to make. Nothing concrete that could be called as a takeaway. 'Difference between' tables make the reader feel that they are preparing for some kind of examination. Nothing new to learn. JUST DONT READ if you even have a slight knowledge on how the brain and mind works

This book is by far the worst self help book that I have ever come across. I don't know how he got such good ratings on goodreads. But one thing is certain, that its not because of the content. And aaj kal Kutch bhi khareeda ja sakta he*hint*hint*..
Primitive English.
And it's apparent that he has used big words in between just to sound smart and it suddenly pops up unnecessarily so it's like the deer in front of a speeding bus when you see it.
The Author's intro is a little over the top where it says that he has the record for Max no. Of quotations on Human life!
And by the way, the Author is "The mind". He took a hint from "Main samay Hoon" on Mahabharata. And the narrative is from the "mind" itself. Throughout the book!
He talks about scientists as if they are kids who are doing so much and they are his kids. Kudos to them on such discovery! Kudos my boy! Tum bade hoke bahut aage badhoge!
On page 32 he says if you haven't read this book or If your parents haven't read this book when you were 5 years old or less. Then toh bhaiyya Gaya. There is no hope. Kutch nahi ho sakta tumhaara. I really thought I should stop reading. But then it was pretty funny so far so I thought why not.
This book also sounds like that abusive boyfriend we hear about. With paragraphs which tell you that you are really useless and have been useless so far. And he uses "Well!..." Too many times.
This is an actual quote from this book...
"Let me explain this in the language of your interest, as no one can beat you when it comes to grasping the matters of selfish interests." (this is the mind talking to the reader)
He has very "cleverly" changed 'state of mind' to 'state of mine' everywhere in the book. Coz he is the mind. You know? Cause that's what good books do. Over and over again. It's irritating beyond imagination. I am pushing myself to read further because I want to finish it....
He says happiness and success goes hand in hand. He says Steve jobs was very happy man and successful of course. He should've read the book on Jobs. Doofus.
Let me quote some more thought provoking, mind boggling, bheja frying quotes from this book,
"If you glimpse through history of mankind, you will realise that whoever has achieved great success, has achieved it effortlessly". But if you really look into history properly and not just glimpse, I am sure you'll find out this is nonsense.
"To put it precisely, instead of taking the decisions on the basis of what is good or bad for him, or analysing the situation to safeguard his own interests, he depends on whatever this state of mine(not a spelling mistake) prompts him to do at that particular moment." This is him talking about successful people. Like Steve jobs.. so.. maybe he is talking about Steve jobs leaving his pregnant wife and child and being happy about that later. Oh wait. No wait.. he wasn't happy about it... Hmmm.. The state of "mine" is telling me to stop reading the book here...
I am still in page 47 by the way.
"The failures of human beings are not hidden from anyone. It clearly implies that , desicions taken after much deliberation, or decisions taken by the application of the brain have often been proved wrong." So basically he says stop thinking, it makes you dumb. Okay, now I know how this book has turned out to be so directionless and pointless. Atleast kutch toh logic ban raha he!
"If you delve a little deeper, you will realise ; there is someone on whose screen all this drama is being played. Have you ever thought about it in this manner? Have you ever reflected upon who that 'someone' could be? I doubt you have. If you were able to think in this manner you would have marched towards phenomenal progress a long time ago."Matbal tum ho hi saala phailure, Ek dum Failure ho Tum samjhe?
Then the book actually says "That was amazing mind! You have presented yourself so well that it seems... " basically he praises his own writing. This book is hilarious. But I am sorry guys I couldn't go read beyond page 80. If there is anyone who made it through this book. Kudos to you & please write in the comments what you found funny about the book.

I didn't even want to give 1 rating. It is worse that that.
So much repetition everywhere.
The actual content can be finished in just 2-3 pages.
The content is absolute bullcrap and nothing more that some stupid opinions.
90% of the book is how science has done this and that with loads of repetitions.
Even after doing that science and scientists are a bunch of useless people who can never know anything.
Wanted to give an attempt to complete it, but couldn't.
Worst reading ever.

Utter waste of time. No logic in the stories whatsoever. This book actually twisted simple psychology into weird mumbo-jumbo. The tone of the author is very authoritative leaving no space for 'self-help'. This book is a joke to be honest. Constantly bashing science for no reason and trying to prove its point by stories that make absolutely no sense! Doesn't even deserve 1 star. Glad that I left it halfway. If you really want to help yourself, stop reading books like these.

I would have never expected this book to be such a thought provoking and well explained narrative on important topics that build character and personality.. I think one must reread it to understand what goes in deeper sections of mind and how to impact it in longer run

Initial chapters are interesting. However, it becomes very authoritative and the reader gets fed up with the high-handedness shown by the author. At several places, it is condescending to the extent that you start feeling guilty - exact same feeling the fake gurus give you.
I left it mid-way as I didn't see how it was progressing and would it help me further.

Disappointed. It’s just some BS pseudoscience without any rationalities.
The stories supporting the claims are totally made up and unrealistic.

This book illumines the concept of mind and brain being treated as two different entities but which works in conjunction with each other. There are lot of concepts related to the ability of the mind and the numerous ways by which it can manipulate us. Most of us would be able to relate to the examples and situations narrated in this book. The author tries to inculcate the thought that it is best to be childlike with respect to emotions and stay in the Super Conscious state of mind which can bring a drastic change in our thought process.
However there are few areas, which did not seem very practical as far as I am concerned. The author feels that everyone should behave like a child, without suppression of emotions and being stubborn in achieving what we want. I hate to disagree, but in my opinion this might not be a very practical approach. Imagine everyone venting out themselves in every situation so as not to suppress emotions, to some degree and extent its possible, but there are many circumstances in life where we might have to sober ourselves a bit, but letting it go at the same time rather than allow the frustrations to build inside and take monstrous forms later.
I was not very impressed with the author's style of writing, and at times it even felt repetitive, but it was a good effort in bringing the different facets of mind, an area which most of us don't focus.
Its a good read if you want to have a deep understanding of how your mind functions.

I liked the simple concepts explained in the book with an even simpler approach: with MIND as the first person narrator.
LONG REVIEW:
I picked it up from a book store when I was struggling to find peace in my everyday life. The index appealed to me. Every aspect of my struggle was put forward as a separate chapter in itself.
So when I started reading, I didn't go by the sequence (after reading the first handful of chapters).
I took them up as per my mood on that particular day. Something that I needed help with, something that I thought I already knew yet struggled to be at peace with.
It got easier to convince myself as per the situational setbacks when my mind was talking to me as my friend.
CRUX:
The brain & mind are separate entities, and must be treated so.
CRITICISM FOR THE NARRATION:
1) A lot of reviewers have complained that the author is arrogantly stating everything, but the title of the book is self-explanatory. It's the MIND speaking to us, not Deep Trivedi himself.
2) As for the reviews that say that it was hard to finish the book because of repetitive points put forward, I guess this book requires a different strategy unlike one of those fictional reads from our bookshelves to be skimmed through.

This is something which I had not read about anywhere before. The content of this book is unparalleled and must be consumed to benefit themselves and for the humanity.
Throughout the book the author has used simple stories which serve to help the reader understand the matter discussed properly. He has left no stone unturned in making sure that everyone understands. Another unique feature of this book is the detailed explanation of the various 'levels' of the mind, their strengths and weaknesses and their functions. The author also explains the difference between brain and mind
To someone starting off with non-fiction books I would definitely recommend reading this book. Overall I enjoyed the read, not because I learnt a lot of new and fancy things, but because it was a gentle reminder about the several good values and teachings I have been imparted over the years via religion, school, parents, and other books

Amazing book. It is unlike any other self help book. The author brings to the table points which are mundane and then shows the hidden meaning behind them which we never thought existed. It's like washing your beliefs and then they take on new appearance. You are sure to look at your life in a very different way once you read this.
Further, throughout the book the author has used simple stories which serve to help the reader understand the matter discussed properly. He has left no stone unturned in making sure that everyone understands. I am sure everyone would be benefitted by this book and urge atleast reading it once. 1. The examples stated on various topics are real-life examples
2. The book says a lot about human behaviour, How it impacts you and how a person due to various reasons gets deviated from success
3. The language of this book is good and high quality words are used in the book
4. Finally the book connects with me

It is one of the rare gems I have come across. Some points are debatable in the book but overall I find this book is for everyone who wants to analyzing oneself and see why we behave or think the way we do.
And then how start getting control of our thoughts, attitude, behavior, perception, confidence, and take in life.
Nice read over all!
I would gift this book to all close friends of mine who read or need a boost in life.

I think this is a pretty decent book, though it may across to some as a very basic book.but still some of the insights explained by way of anology is a standout...what does not go well is the author writing style which tries to dominate his readers in many pages...so for a mature well read person this could be a put off...it will be good for milliniem kids ..as it explains on key points like to be grounded in whatever they do and to be practical as well....

Took a long time to finish this book, I have read a lot of books in this genre and i was really impressed with the way the author was able to hold his reader keeping the language and examples simple, it just became too theoretical for me after the first 30% of the book was over. Good try but could have been made reader friendly.

Its ok. It starts good but then by middle it get boring, especially if you have read other self help books. Its not the same as other self help books, but the stories and examples given are quite common. It just focus on problems and not good solution provided according to me. I actually left the book mid way after 60%.

The book gives a gist of the functioning of the Mind. Entire book is written in a very simple manner and takes you through a short journey and gives you a glimpse of the mind. This book complements 'The Secret' by Rhonda Byrne. A good read for those who love to ponder on the secrets hidden in the human mind.

I was expecting much more in content and form, but was disappointed on both the fronts.
One good message in the book is follow the path where your real interest lies. But it’s repeated in so many forms that one shouldn’t start doubting that.

Nice theme and concept. This book defines, the ways to unearth the forbidden treasures of life. However at points explanation and examples seems to be contradictory and inconclusive. All in all, readers should try this and try to develop own thoughts, beyond anyone else's.

This is one of the least helpful self help book I've come across. The writing is truly bizzare and feels completely out or place.
It would still have been excusable if the book had some insight to deliver, but it does not.
