Evelyn Christenson writes, "I have discovered through the years that surprising things happen when I pray, 'Lord, change me--don't change my husband, don't change my children, don't change my pastor, change me!, . . . More and more the fact comes into focus that they, and not I, are responsible before God for their actions. But I am responsible for the changes that need to be made in me."
Eveyn's fourteen-month spiritual adventure in learning how God changes people became the exciting story of this book. First published in 1977, "Lord, Change Me!" has surpassed one million copies in print and continues to help a new generation of Christian women--and men--experience the spiritual transformation God commands in Romans 12:2.
"Lord, Change Me!" outlines seven methods of real, inside-out change as well as ways to check to be sure it is God who is doing the changing. And woven throughout are Evelyn's wonderfully transparent accounts of how God aught her and her loved ones these nuggets of truth.
Full of practical wisdom, this book focuses on changing yourself not others (Hint: praying 'Lord, change me' is the first step). Some references are dated but this is still worth reading for its emphasis on becoming like Christ and its helpful suggestions about how to seek God's correction and guidance for your life.
For the mature Christian. As someone who's been in the church my whole life, I appreciated reading a book aimed toward the more seasoned Christian who's already learned the basics over and over again. I've started to pray a little differently and been more open with God because of reading this book.
You know a book is good when you keep putting it down to read the Bible instead! Rather than trust her words, Evelyn desires her readers trust God’s words - evident by how she seems to have a Bible verse (or ten!) on nearly every page. Her strong emphasis on the Bible’s authority and prayer is well appreciated, as is her small portion warning of “other sources of wisdom” in the back of the book.
For the one who is desperate to grow closer to God in character, or simply wants to do God’s work and receive the promised rewards, this book is a simple yet sweet gem.
A biblically inspired, well written challenging book about how the process of change can take place when we pray "Lord, change me" It's one of those books you should probably read several times and share with all your friends. Thank you Evelyn for writing this.
This is a great book. It's easy and quick to read but intense. I did it as a study group with my church. I am a changed woman and took away a lot of valuable biblical information from this book. A definite must read!
No lo he leido pero por lo q me hab contafo es muy instructivo y beneficioso al crecimiento de cualquier persona con deseos de un cambio Permanente en su vida como solo Dioslo puede hacer
A easy to read manifesto on how to read the bible if you want to hear from God and are willing to be changed. I loved this book as an excellent follow up to Evelyn's other guidance on how to pray. Written in the 1970s it especially resonated with me as running as a gold thread through it is the affirmation that women have a role in God's ministry to the world.
This book was a gift, pulled it off the shelf to read not that long ago and got to page 39 only to not be astonished that the author and an audience of women were astonished that they found answers and wisdom in just the Bible.
Excellent teaching on how to overcome the problems we all deal with every day. Loved the practical examples and honesty. Read it years ago and it is still relevant today/
A re-read of this book didn't disappoint. The teaching about needing to change our own heart attitude rather than seek to change others is not always easy medicine to follow but in the end the only medicine to follow. Trying to change others and the way they treat us is always going to prove difficult, frustrating and indeed, impossible. The only person we can change at the end of the day is ourselves and that only with God's help.
I had to weed through a lot of denominational-ism and cultural Christianity , but I understand she was writing from the storehouse of knowledge that she had. The best things I got out of it were how Yehovah used the death of her daughter to shape and mold her into the woman of faith He wanted her to be. I was blessed by her discussion of the 4 sources of wisdom as well.
I really was not sure what to expect when I started this book but I am so glad I read it! I am planning to attend a Women's retreat soon and she talks a lot about them in this book and it got me very excited about going to mine! I will definitely check out other books by this author.
This is a book I love to read. This author made a difference when I read some of her books decades ago and although some of the illustrations are now dated and she has been in heaven some time the message is timeless.
