Several times I came to water the grave, only to find it freshly raked. I eventually changed my routine and managed to catch the hussy in the act: a curly grey-haired woman with a walker - a veritable sports model with light wheels and a shopping bag - fussing around the pansies on my Franz's grave.
"Get AWAY from my husband's grave!" I shouted from afar, so angry that my voice wavered. Would I finally get to face the minx Franz had cheated with, after 40 years? The woman flinched in fright and wanted to flee, but she hadn't brought the walker along for fun, to put it mildly.
... turns out it was our old neighbour Hilde Ackermann, whom I hadn't seen for ages.
Ever since then, whenever Hilde phoned me, she'd introduce herself as the "grey-haired curly hussy from the cemetery".
