Perfect Timing

Rate this book
Jes Harper loves her life. Being the production assistant for one of the most sought after producers in the music industry, Brett Winters, she gets to spend her time doing what she loves – listening to music. Working with the musicians is fun, too, but after being burned by them twice before in love, she’s sworn them off for anything more than friends. But, Brett’s best friend is back in town and perfect in every way, and he could change her mind…if she’d just let him.

Mitch Lansing has lived the musician life – the drugs, the women, the partying – but he’s over that now. At 40, you tend to want to settle down, even if you’re a musician. He’s happy to be back home with his best friend, Brett, and recording his own music. One look at Brett’s assistant and he knows he’s found the perfect woman for him…if he can just convince her of that.

When coming on strong doesn't work, Mitch decides to take it slow and vows to not give up. Day by day, piece by piece, he chips away at the wall around Jes’s heart. Can he prove to her that not all musicians are the same? Or will a ghost from his past ruin everything for them both? The other musicians from her past broke her heart...Mitch could shatter it completely.

A combustible romance between two amazing characters. Jes Harper and Mitch Lansing really heat up the pages with the explosive sexual chemistry they have for each other. I love that Mitch is 40 years old so the protagonists aren't super young. It's a great change to have older characters fall in love since most books have younger ones.

I was up in the wee hours of the morning reading this cause I kept telling myself I would read just one more chapter. Before I knew it, I had reached the end. I was a little mad at Jes because if Mitch wanted to jump my bones, I wouldn't have held out. Although, she had good reason to, plus it gave them time to get to know each other. There's a cliffhanger so I'm ready to delve into book two.

I loved and hated this book. I love Jes Harper a petite late 30’s early 40’s woman with a heart of gold. She has been burned by love and lives through her work as a production assistant for a music producer. She no longer dates musicians so her love life is nonexistent. Enter the hottest male she has ever seen Mitch Lansing. Her bosses best friend and a musician. He is 40 and has passed the drugs, sex and rock and roll lifestyle. His attraction to Jes is immediate and overwhelming. I love that his attraction to Jes makes him feel like a teen again. I really like his patience with her. I read this book in one sitting. So I guess you are wondering what I hated about this book? The author leaves us hanging with questions that won’t get answered till the next book. Arrrgh how long will I have to wait? Write faster. A really fun and sweet book.

This is the first book I have read of J.C. Layne and will say I liked it. Having aid that though this book took me awhile to get into. I'm thinking it took me awhile because it is very different then what I normally read.

Alright this book was about Jessica (Jes) Harper and Mitch Lansing.

Jes is a very strong, independent woman, even though strong she does have some small self-esteem issues, and she works in the music industry. Jes has had some trouble in the love department because they were the wrong guys and they got to much into the musician life style. Now, se refuses to date anyone in the music world. Even with this being the case Jes is great at what she does in the music world she would just like to keep the to worlds separate. The comes along Mitch, Brett's best friend (her boss).

Mitch is a musician/producer who just moved ack one. He is a 40 year old Alpha male, that has a monster (you'll have to read the book to find out what this means). Mitch is hoping that coming home will help him write more music. Then he sees Jes and knows immediately that he wants her.

Jes finds Mitch very attractive but doesn't want to act on anything because of her past. Mitch however is going to do anything he can to get Jes to be his and make her see that he is different.

Jes and Mitch have many struggles in their lives. How will they over come them and will they survive these struggles to have a future?

Overall, I did really like this book. Once I was able to get into it I didn't want to put it down. I loved watching reading the interaction between all the characters.

The main thing about this book is that it does end in a Cliffhanger!!

FINALLY!!!! I finally get to read a book with an older couple as the lead characters. Not that they are that old, but they are not in their 20's and that is quite a change of pace for me. I enjoyed every page of this book. The storyline is well written and the characters are wonderful!! Jes Haper is in her late 30's - early 40's and just the sweetest woman you could meet. She loves music but she will no longer date musicians, which is made hard due to her job as a production assistant for a music producer. But enter her boss's best friend, 40 year old Mitch, and he's a musician and the hottest man she has ever seen. At his age is is past the rocker lifestyle and his attraction to Jess is swift and heartstopping. Seeing her does something to him, makes him feel like he hasn't felt in years and years; he feels like a teenager. Although she makes him feel this way, he is very patient with her, taking his time because he knows of her heartbreak.

This is a really fun and sweet story and I know everyone will enjoy it. I highly recommend it!

Timing is Everything

I really like that the main characters in this book are older than most but I lost patience with Jessica for sometimes acting half her age. Jes is a production assistant in a small recording studio in Atlanta, when her best friend and mentor introduces her to his best friend, fellow producer/musician Mitch, the most gorgeous man she's ever seen. Mitch is pretty much head over heels instantly but Jes has been burned badly twice before and has sworn off musicians. So begins the slow paced push and pull between the two, the dialog is interrupted constantly with the internalization of both characters during the swift changing of POV from one to the other which for me was off putting. The pace does pick up more than half way through when a delusional stalker sets her sites again on Mitch with detrimental consequences for Jes. This book ends in a cliffhanger so I will give book two a try.

Third time the charm?

Jes has been burned twice by musicians. No more music dudes. She’s almost 40, works as a production assistant in the music industry.

Mitch is over 40, and as first a musician and then a music producer he’s seen it all and done it all. But with Jes, it’s a role reversal. He’s definitely the girl and is smitten right away with her.

Can he win her over?
Ends in a cliffhanger.
Good playlist. Some from the Ten Things soundtrack.
Recommend.

The first person narrative of this book is a little strange at first, but a nice deviation from the beaten path. I love that these two are older than your typical hero/heroine duo. Their attraction is undeniable from the start, as their hormones reduce them to almost teenagers again. Jes's past haunts her, but Mitch is determined to find a way past her blocks. Can Mitch and Jes find a way to be together, and maybe attain what they both crave - a perfect, loving partnership? You'll have to read to find out.

Most enjoyable- storyline has great potential. I enjoyed the fast pace and premise to start with and the overall idea. Some passages were very definitely hot and steamy. Music industry arrangements can evolve in a number of ways, not always harmoniously, and when all the pieces fit beautiful music is made.
Felt annoyed with the constant repetition of the reasons for not taking a risk and the length of the courtship of the main characters.

This book is amazing. We all know what it's like to get your heart broke and afterwards it takes alot to get us to trust again. Some of us even know what it's like to have to try and break down those walls and get someone to trust and love us after they were hurt, so in both situations this book is very relatable. The characters are great and even emotionally detailed, I recommend this book to everyone.

Really enjoyed this story! The characters were great and I liked how they were older. They all were great friends and seemed really tight. This was a very sweet and funny story but had an edge that kept me on the edge of my seat to find out what was going to happen next! I love this author and highly recommend her books!

Jes & Mitch are both strong willed characters.  Neither one of them is willing to give in to the other at first.  I could relate to Jess' character, having been hurt before.  Mitch is fun and flirty and crazed.  He's a musician.  Fanning myself.  I had no problems following the story line.  Overall this was a good start to the series.

A sweet and sexy contemporary romance. I enjoyed the overall story but I’m still on the fence about the characters themselves. The way they acted at times just wasn’t believable for me. But overall I did enjoy the story and look forward to see where things go since it left off in a little bit of a cliff hanger.

Ok

It started out ok but all it was about was sex. Also if they have a restraining order then when violated the cops are called. The first threat would have got her arrested a mental evaluation would have got her institutionalized. Some times stories give bad advice to those who read them. For the sake of the story.

This is the first book by J.C Layne. I was given a copy in exchange for my honest opinion and thoughts.

This is a Music Industry based romance and the author did an awesome job with this genre.

Jes has been burned more than once by a musician and has sworn them off. When her boss Brett's best friend Mitch come back to town the attraction is instant but there is one huge problem... he is a musician.

When Brett tells Jes that she would be working with Mitch and he would be staying at the studio for a long time. She wonders just how she is going to be able to concentrate on her job.

This book has a slow build up in which I felt the frustration (especially the sexual) from the characters. Jes reluctant to have her heart broken again doesn't want to have sex with Mitch and keeps him emotionally at a distance. Mitch is very understanding and supportive in her decision to take it slow.

There are additional elements added into the story such as the crazy stalker which makes things a little bit faster especially when it forces Jes and Mitch admit their attraction to each other.

Only thing that bothered me is that it is a cliff hanger (I love/hate them) right when I am engrossed in the story bam it happens.

I thought that it had a good storyline, was outside my normal reads. It was sweet yet steamy. I think that it has a little bit of everything in it. Overall very good book for 1st time author... can't wait to see what comes next.

Perfect Timing is a good introduction into the romance genre. The romance is fairly simple and it involves music and musicians, a popular theme for many fans of the romance genre. I enjoyed how the chapters were divvied up between characters and that we were able to gain multiple perspectives as the story went on. J.C. Layne did well handling two characters at once while also making their thoughts and actions separate from one another.

Even though the writing could be wordy and flat at times, I thought that the romance was sweet and something that many girls will fawn over. Layne understands her characters and the world she created well, and fans of quick romance reads will surely be pleased. Even though this novel was not completely my cup of tea, I still found it to be a quick and enjoyable read. Hopeful romantics will find hope in Jes and Mitch's love story, and they are sure to bring hope to us all. Just be advised that this novel does end on a cliff hanger, and even though I am not a fan of cliff hangers, it might keep you reading to the next book in the series.

Brett and Becca are one of those couples. You know, the ones who get it right? They're great together and they give me hope that maybe one day I'll get it right, too.

This is an awesome debut book for this author and she is definitely somone I will be following and waiting for her next book... You can't but fall in love with Mitch and Jess and want to see them together... Mitch is everyone womans dream honest, true and so typically clumsy when it comes to expressing his feelings that you can't help but laugh and sigh at the depth of his emotions oh and don't let me forget hot as hell.. Jess is guarded and terrified of being hurt that she has a really hard time accepting how she feels for him and how he feels about her... This book had me laughing, crying, and sighing.. I can't wait to see what comes next because I could not put this book down...

J.C. Layne is a new author to me and I wasn't sure what to expect. I'm a sucker for rock star romance so I had to read it. I'm glad that I did! I love Mitch and He's especially all their banter and inner monologue!
