This is Brian Abbott's first major publication. The Boston-based writer has found his stronghold in the world of social media under the moniker of High Poets Society. His writing is most recognized for its mesmerizing rhyme scheme and clever wordplay.
I totally love poetry so when I was on Instagram and this book started popping up everywhere I had to see what was up. It just so happened that a few weeks later on a trip to Barnes and Noble this book was there on a shelf waiting for me (I'm assuming). I tried my hardest to savor every page. By taking my time and not rushing through what I can guess would be a quick read for me. It was worth it. It is a beautiful collection of work. It was relatable and I ended it feeling like I really started forming who this author is. I honestly can't wait to see what the future holds for this writer. The future looks endless from here. Let me share one of my favorite quotes with you to end this review. "Somehow, I manage to swim back to the surface and emerge from that sunken ship of anxiety. I haven't drowned yet, sometimes it just takes me a minute to resurface and catch my breath." B. Abbott. Go out and buy the book you guys.
Just breezed through this book in one sitting but I'm definitely planning to go back, savor the poems slowly, and bookmark my favorites.
The poems in this book are short, sweet, and modern. A lot of them were about love and romance in a sweet and light-hearted way, which is exactly what I was looking for when I flipped through this book in the store. There are also some sadder ones, but for the most part the poems were inspiring and beautiful.
Definitely hope to pick up more from this poet in the future!
This book was an awesome summer read from start to finish! I follow him on social media and have been waiting for the book to come out for ages... Needless to say it did not disappoint! I would tell anybody this book is definitely a must read!
A tad too expensive when you consider just how cheap softer brands of toilet paper are on the open market. When you can't find Charmin in your local supermarket.
One thing to know about me is that I absolutely love and adore poetry. I always have. This particular collection is particularly intriguing. It follows basic rhyme schemes and theme shifts and employs wordplay to add depth to the writings. I first read this when I was at a relatively low point in my life, and this book really made me feel seen. Reading it again, I remember why I loved it.
I won't spoil any of the lines for you, but if you love poetry, like melancholy adjacent themes, and honestly, some angst.
I want to write more of a review, but I want you to be able to experience the book for yourself. A lot of them are simple poems, composed of only a few lines, but they remain effective.
Not at all what I expected. The parts that are posted on Instagram made it seem SOOO great which is why I got it. Only some parts were really great to me. Disappointed.
It was good, but most of it didn't hit my soul the way some poetry does. I didn't feel like I related to the pain, which is why I read poetry. But despite that, it was a good read. I enjoyed some of the poems.
