Uninvited Bible Study Guide: Living Loved When You Feel Less Than, Left Out, and Lonely

Rate this book

GOD WANTS US TO LIVE LOVED WHEN WE FEEL LEFT OUT, LONELY, AND LESS THAN.

In this six-session video Bible study (DVD/digital video sold separately), Lysa TerKeurst digs deep into God’s Word to help you explore the roots of rejection, the way other relationships get tainted because of a past rejection, and the truth about what it looks like to live loved. With biblical depth, gut-honest vulnerability, and refreshing wit, Lysa will take you on a visual journey in the Holy Land to some of the places where people of the Bible such as Hannah, David, and even Jesus lived and walked.

Lysa will help you and your group to enter a place of healing and new perspective, as well as a time for you to go to new places with Jesus and experience him like never before.  Uninvited reminds us we are destined for a love that can never be diminished, tarnished, shaken, or taken—a love that does not reject or uninvite.

This study guide is packed with deep Bible teaching and includes guided video notes, group discussion questions, and between-sessions personal studies.

Sessions include:

Living Loved
Empty or Full?
The Yoke of God Is Freedom
Set Apart

I loved the Uninvited book and the DVD series. Loved them. However I just didn't enjoy this study guide at all. It was very hard to use in a small group setting. It was way too long and just not easy to lead from at all.

While I absolutely love the book and the DVD, I have struggled with the workbook that goes with the videos and provides the daily homework. Often the questions in the daily homework feels disjointed. I wish the video notes had blanks to fill in so I could follow better, or was just provided blank lines to take my own notes. And the questions for the group discussions are so deep that it is hard to answer them on the spot. Since there are 6 days of homework, I don't have the time to work ahead towards those questions and I wish they were more incorporated into the weekly homework.

This workbook was a great companion to the book Uninvited. The homework, which is 6 days per week, has you read a chapter of the book one day, then dig into the Bible and answer Lysa's questions the next, and so on. I enjoyed watching the DVD lessons, although they were comprised mostly of Lysa speaking verbatim excerpts from the book. The settings she visited in the Holy Land added to the experience. The overall message from the book was outstanding. Lysa's writing is so personable that she can draw anyone in.

Love this study! If you can't do the study, just read the Uninvited book. It was amazing and a must read for all Christian women IMO.

To be honest, I rarely buy or read study guides. I usually just read the book itself. However, in this case, it is actually quite difficult for me to determine which has been more formative and helpful on my journey of getting over rejection and people-pleasing - the actual "Univited" book or this study guide. Even though the study guide is based on a video (which I didn't have), it was still such a powerful way to remind myself of the truths I was learning and to better digest information. I loved how the study guide asks real and honest questions and allows space to journal and pray about things we are going through. Lysa is an incredible writer and her book shows her humility and passion in seeing women break spiritual bonds and move forward and reach others for Christ.

Study guide for the book Uninvited by Lysa Terkeurst. It would be challenging to rate this guide accurately because I got so much out of studying this with other women in our small group. This is a book I recommend to women to address issues of rejection and hurt so that they can lived fully loved. It is a good message and I encourage others to read it or even form their own small group because that is the real richness for this study.

I did this book and workbook with a class in bible study. We all enjoyed the study, but the only confusing part was when it came to the homework parts. nobody was ever sure exactly what chapters went with what and when we were supposed to read them. lol. We all loved the movie and where it was filmed. absolutely gorgeous. I would recommend this book to others.

This book was so refreshing, modern and hopeful. For me Lysa TerKeurst is a revelation, particularly with language and messaging from women on their faith journey. The message: YOU ARE LOVED!

It was okay. A lot of this study is dependent upon reading the book and watching the series. It is also a specific topic, that while we all deal with rejection, so more than others, so it might be more meaningful to others.

First off, let me say I have not finished reading the actual book yet. With a group of college girls, we decided to do this study. This is the first book by Lysa and group study I have done. Unrelated to the study book but her book is very hard for me to get through. With the study guide and DVD there are some things to note if you want to do it individually or with a group.

1. This study guide and DVD is time consuming. Reading the book is consuming but adding the study and DVD adds so much to college students during a spring semester. The DVD sessions are 15 minutes to 1 hour (roughly). Then you do the study guide that goes with and read the corresponding chapters.

2. The study guide is so long and redundant!! The same questions get asked many times throughout the guide but worded differently. And there are so many questions, that take a least an hour to answer with your group even without the individual time or optional parts. The guide suggests there be a discussion about the video, which we never did because just by doing the video and about 10 questions it is about 2 hours already. That is just so much time! If she redoes the book I hope she will not include so many questions or only ask them once.

3. The questions were so confusing. Many questions asked were confusing to myself and others of the group. Our group leader had to reword many for us to even understand. Or we just skipped questions all together because we could not understand them. Also, she would ask a question then have a sub question after it that basically asked the same thing but worded differently. If Lysa rewrites the questions I hope she will consider making them more simple and not 'bounce' around what she wants us to understand.

4. This was just personal. For me, reading the book and watching her videos annoyed me so much. This was my real, first time reading a book by a Christian author about a Christian subject and I wanted it to be great. I had high expectations for Lysa and her book and they were not met. She would also include stories to what she wanted to say. I don't mind a story here and there but to have one in every chapter or session that can be repeated several times, annoys me to no end. I came to read the book about what God has in store for me being an uninvited person and instead I get 20 life stories from Lysa that I didn't care for and honestly don't remember because they all sound the same. This is what is making finishing the book so difficult.

Overall, I would say to consider your time and others' time because it is time consuming and takes a lot especially for group and personal study. This study needs some improvements and I will not be doing it again and don't recommend it for people who it is their first time encountering a bible study.

In my journey through the other side of cancer God has called me to a specific direction. He used a scene from the movie War Room to open my eyes to application of his word, the bible. I learn what it means to be a prayer warrior, in the Priscilla Shirer study Armor of God. I am healing from cancer and some changes have occurred both positive and negative. I prayed about my loneliness and God brought me to the next study, which is Uninvited Lysa Terkeurst. Have you ever felt less than, left out or lonely?

For this review I will be discussing both the book and the Bible study guide. Both books have a beautiful cover!

The bible study guide is divided into seven sessions. Each session begins with an outline of Lysa’s teaching. I am not going to go into great detail because I had no access to this teaching which was done on video. Then the week’s session proceeds into a group bible study. Then the rest of the homework is personal. The personal study sections go deeper into the teaching. It focuses on application. The study begins with the participants reading the first three chapters of the Uninvited book. Then Lysa teaches on those in-depth in the personal sections. The participant is also asked to read other chapters on certain days.

What is this study about? How to handle rejection when attacked. ? What is God’s plan when you experience rejection? How do we live when feeling less than and lonely? How can we help others?

My Thoughts:

I loved this study! The structure was different than what I was used to, in previous bible studies. I loved how it really connected with Armor of God. The connection in application is using my war room. I think we as followers all struggle with trying to find what it means to be fully loved. How can we bring the fullness of love, and present that too the world? How can we trust God in the process? I would have liked to have done it with a group but I was still able to learn so much. I plan to put these tools to use in my daily life.

This study guide, in tandem with the Uninvited book itself, has been...quite a journey. It's a beautiful study and the author's heart really shine's through. While I did enjoy the accompanying videos (the scenery is gorgeous!), I found almost all of the content in the videos repetitive of the content in the book. The book, however, was an excellent companion to the study guide. I don't at all regret using the three altogether, of course. And I enjoyed meeting with the church's group of ladies to complete this study together. For my thoughts on the book, see my review here: Uninvited: Living Loved When You Feel Less Than, Left Out, and Lonely.

As for the structure of the study, the guide is set up as follows: the viewing session and group questions, six days of individual study pages follow. Each individual study day takes turns, one a reflection day with guided questions and the other a day to read the next chapter in the book itself. I liked that the reading was built into the study guide so that I didn't feel like I was juggling too many parts. They worked together well because of it.

The questions and outline of the material is clear and concise. The content is peace-giving and life-changing, should you truly dig into it and apply it to your life. I very much enjoyed this study, far more than I anticipated I would, and would certainly recommend it.

Good activities that help you analyze feelings or scriptures. Very emotional, and not as factual as I would like. The activities and words don't prove to me that the author has found victory over rejection, but shows she is in progress. Best advice was to bring God's fullness to your life and you'll feel less uninvited by others. Good scriptures, but I'm not convinced Lysa knows who she is in Christ yet. I think that's what we all need in order to combat rejection - to believe what God says about us and how He loves us.

Author infers that David felt rejected when he wasn't brought out to be chosen as a king with his brothers. Could be or it could be that he went out early and was working so wasn't called back. Or that he was too young. Doesn't have to be rejection like an emotional or egotistical person might infer. I think Lysa is good at being transparent and her activities are helpful, but just as she said in her story about the woman at the gym, I think she perceives or reads into things that aren't necessarily true.

Doesn't feel led by Spirit as evidenced by off-the-cuff jokes in video for session 3. I also don't agree with the inference that Jesus' 3 wilderness temptations were about emotions. I'm sure He did experience emotions during that time, but it was about overcoming the lust of the eyes (materialism) and body (hedonism) and the pride of life (ego, need to be someone), not emotional rejection by Satan.

Do you see a photo of friends hanging out on Facebook and realize you weren't invited to the party? Does it instantly ruin your whole day and make you feel left out, lonely, abandoned, and unloved? Maybe you haven't experienced that exact situation, but you've found yourself feeling any of those ways at some point in your life. This bible study addresses many of the insecurities we face as humans, and how to seek God for happiness and fulfillment rather than looking for it in all of the wrong places and repeating the hurt all over again. It helps us to live loved by knowing our identity is in Christ rather than the world.

This book is a companion workbook to the Uninvited Study, and has the reader to deeply consider situations in their own lives. It also has the reader list insights from the book, and passages of scripture and apply them to our lives. It has a lot of great insights, and working through the activities really helped me to apply the lessons from the book and the Scripture. My only criticism would be that there was a lot of activities for each week’s study, and it was kind of hard to squeeze everything in with the busy schedule. Aside from that, I highly recommend the study.

I've heard that the main book that this study guide accompanies is a very inspiring book. The study guide and DVD series fell a little flat to me on their own, though. My Bible study had some great discussions from this study, but this book was just not working for me. I'll try reading the main book another time.

I needed so so so much of the information gained during this study. It doesn't make feeling rejected hurt any less. It did help me look at things differently in some instances and helped with ideas when I have to deal with those who have rejected me.

A little slow in the beginning that I wasn’t sure the book would get to the point…but eventually there was so much wisdom and amazing analogies that were so well done.
