Look into the past and you can change the future. In Memories Of My Future, Dr. Avinash Singh is the type of surgeon that other physicians envy, and has the world in his hands. That is until tragedy strikes—and it’s a tragedy that puts him on the ropes, forcing him to revisit his greatest nightmares. It makes him realize that the successful life he had been living has been a façade. To overcome this, he will have to take a glimpse into the past and begin a journey that will teach him where true strength comes from. Along the way, he will see the heroism in his bloodline. He will witness the story of the first nation to defeat Genghis Khan’s army. He will walk alongside the revolutionary whose love for his wife was so strong that even the mighty British Empire could not break it. But the true message Avinash will realize is that the greatest gift Man has is their mind. And once the mind is unlocked, all the answers to Man’s problems will be right before their eyes.

MEMORIES OF MY FUTURE is a great book focused on the themes of coexistence, courage, and selflessness. It starts off with Dr. Avinash Singh, a man who is broken and faced with an impossible task. From there, the story goes between three different time periods as Avinash learns from his past ancestors. It is through learning these lessons and applying them to his life that Avinash becomes who he is meant to become.

There is a lot to love here without giving away any major spoilers. I liked Avinash's character. He can come off as too perfect at first glance, but that striving for perfection has a deeper meaning to his character. His character is all about self-improvement, and we see that as the story progresses. Habib and Dr. Sinha do a great job of creating a protagonist you can easily root for.

The pillars of this novel are the themes intertwined into the plot. That is honestly the best part of the story. The messages are something we badly need in this world, and they are told so perfectly here. One of my favorite parts is the part set 1857 India. The story of Veerish is incredibly inspiring of being courageous in the darkest hours.

Modern Day Epic

This is a modern day epic tale. It passes over generations, showing us the similarities between past generations and us. It shows us that problems we face today may take different forms, but they are not so different from the struggles of our ancestors.

The story begins in modern-day NYC. Dr. Avinash Singh is on the ropes after losing a battle against a new virus. This virus is not too different from COVID-19. It's a virus that no doctor can beat, and a virus that is taking the lives of children within days. With his self-esteem as a doctor broken, Avinash is in a dark place. Through a string of events, he comes across a journal of his ancestors, and he opens it to find strength from the stories of his past.

What ensues is the adventure of a lifetime. We journey with Avinash through the stories of his forefathers. We see how the people of Bihar, India worked together in the 13th century to defeat the Mongolian horde. They set aside the differences of religions and cultures to defeat a common enemy. We see how one freedom fighter in 1857 stood against the East India Company, even when it led to his death.

Through these stories, Avinash gains his courage and strength. He is able to overcome his battles and become all that he can be.

This novels carries several lessons within it’s dual timeline. It reads like folklore with a moral to the story. Told alternately through the contemporary life of Avinash and a journal of his ancestry, it weaves from one to the other seamlessly. The authors repeatedly mention the diversity of religions in the stories, using the different religious lingo interchangeably to emphasize tolerance. Above all else, the main theme revolves around the idea that you should be yourself and keep moving forward in service to others, using your god-given talents without fear.

Surgeon Avinash Singh loses a child during surgery to heart failure caused by a new virus. Having accepted always being the best at everything he does, this harsh reality devastates him. His nurse Martha, a second mother in his adopted country, tells him to find a way to deal with it and get back to work. He seeks resolution in the journal of his ancestry given to him by his grandfather. He reads of Khau, the Lion of Bihar, a 13th-century warrior ancestor, who must find a way to save Bihar from the Mongols. Those barbarians destroy everything in their path, because they are unbeatable archers on horseback. Khau determines their weakness and defeats them. The inspirational story motivates Avinash to develop a cure. From this breakthrough, Avinash receives two offers: a position at a coveted medical center in NYC and a chance to offer his skills to a humanitarian effort. He returns to the journal to learn about Veeresh, the leader of his people who did not break under torture by the East India Company’s best “negotiator.” From this lesson, Avi knows he must follow his heart. On this path, he finds true love and faces a challenge that calls out his warrior blood.

This historical fiction carries more than one lesson within it’s dual timeline. It reads like folklore with a moral to the story. Told alternately through the contemporary life of a brilliant surgeon and a journal of his ancestry, it weaves from one to the other seamlessly. The authors repeatedly mention the diversity of religions in the stories of Avi and his ancestors, and they use the different religious lingo interchangeably to emphasize tolerance. The main takeaway seems to be, however, that you should be yourself and keep moving forward in service to others, using your god-given talents without fear.

I received a digital copy of this wonderful story from one of the authors.

With the current virus gripping the nation and world, the whole plot about the rare heart disease and the way that Dr. Avinash Singh figures out how to cure it really resonated with me. Hopefully the doctors in America can use the same "out of the box" thinking to find a cure for the corona virus.

A very human novel. The authors' greatest trick is to weave such a believable story that you actually imagine that all the characters are real. You feel genuine sorrow when he describes a death, genuine fear at other times. I have not enjoyed a novel this much for a very long time. Being a physician may well have helped understand the medical passages of text at times, but irrespective of that, this book is highly recommended. Brilliant.

This book evoked every possible emotion in me, including hope, despair, shock, anger, disgust, fear, disbelief, and heart ache. I was literally sitting on the edge of my couch as I read this book. It’s such a heart wrenching story but a story that needed to be told. This book will forever be perched in my mind’s eye.

Ammar has crafted a delightful story. It features a gifted cardiac surgeon who fails to save a young girl from a viral heart disease. Avinash Singh is driven to find a cure and draws upon the stories from his ancestors to find the courage to develop a technique to help future sufferers.
The stories from his ancestors are well researched and written and provide the back stories that we need to see how Avinash makes good on his promises. He draws upon the heroism and courage of his ancestors and finds his one true love, someone who has perhaps come back from the dead.
Story telling at its very best. You will love Ammar Habib and want to go and find the rest of his novels. Highly recommended.

This is a beautifully crafted story about the power of coexistence and tapping into one's potential. I enjoyed the protagonist's physical, mental, and spiritual journey as he goes from a broken man wrecked by a major failure and turns into the person he was meant to become. Habib and Sinha used their backgrounds masterfully in the telling of this tale!

Such a powerful story that needs to be read by millions in today's world. Though it explores the history of India/Pakistan, the novel is really about the importance of coexistence and the importance of embracing our gifts as a responsibility to mankind. I loved that the two authors had different religious backgrounds because that adds to the authenticity of the book's themes.

I loved this book the only reason I didn’t give it a 5 is because there is a lot of medical terminology that might put some people off. I would recommend people give it a go as it’s beautifully written and the family story is really moving and I quickly became invested in the characters.

Though this book can be viewed in many different lights, I see it as the journey of a broken man piecing himself back together by finding the strength of his forefathers. Beautiful.

This novel is a must-read for fans of all genres! Following Dr. Avinash Singh, the reader travels along his personal journey as he goes from a broken man into becoming who he is meant to be. This happens through discovering much of his past ancestors' stories, and seeing the courage and bravery they displayed in their darkest hours. Using the same mindset, he approaches his own battles, both internal and external.

Ammar Habib and Anil Sinha weave in some fantastic messages about multiculturalism, unity, and courage. What I loved about the authors was learning their own religious differences in terms of their backgrounds. Having those differences and writing this book together is what gives this book it real power. Had the authors been from the same generation, nation, and religion, this novel would not have been as impactful.

Great read!

This book is quiet, moving, and absolutely gorgeous. The way the narrative slips back and forth between New York City, in the present tense, and the historical parts in India, in the past, took my breath away every time. A wonderful meditation on what it means to be human.

This is a great story that follows three generations of the same family but in different time periods! One is set in the 13th century. The 2nd is set in the 1850s. And the final one is set in present day NYC. Using these stories, Habib and Sinha do a great job of weaving the themes of coexistence, honor, and courage into the story. This is a great read for fans of the historical fiction genre who like stories with hopeful and uplifting messages!

This is another powerful story by the author. What's great about this book is that is promotes cultural diversity and coexistence, while at he same time both authors come from different cultural backgrounds. I feel like that makes the story all the more authentic.

There are so many themes explored in this book, that it is a rainbow of emotions, and none of them, I feel are hurried or cluttered. The story spans over a long period, but it isn't drawn out, it touches deeply on different subjects, but none of them are hurried. I am in awe of this author's ability to surprise, create hope, thwart it and raise it again, even as you, the reader, think you know where the book is going. What a treasure!

Not sure why it took 3 years for me to read this book. Because it really was lovely. Rich characters. Beautiful writing. Multi layered story. You quickly care for the characters. Maybe because there was such emotional intensity at times that I needed to put it down often. So glad I did finish it and highly recommend this intelligent and spiritual story.
