This book made me laugh and laugh. The author has a very funny and unique way of writing. At first, it seemed like a regular chick-lit book, but then each scene built on the next... and kept building until I was in stitches. I grew to love the characters so much and was cheering for them every step of the way. I could see this book being made into a movie (it's only a matter of time) because it's so funny and fast-paced with a unique storyline and characters. Plus the humor--OMG, the humor! I read parts aloud to my husband, and he was in stitches, too. Everyone I know is reading this book and loving it. Part 2 is even better. I'd give it 10 stars if I could.
I found this story on Amazon and thought it sounded interesting so I got it. Now that I’ve finished reading part one, I had to immediately go and get part two. Emily is such a blah kind of person. Completely ordinary, boring, and has the same routine day in and day out. Suddenly she gets twisted into a “deal” and it changes her life so drastically. I’m dying to know what happens in Part 2!
This is one of the funniest books I've read in a long time. It started off a little slow but built and built and built. The main character, Emily, starts off depressed but a bunch of things happen to take her life in a whole new direction. She gets herself into so many messes, and there is one hilarious mishap after another. Great characters, lots of unique humor, interesting premise, quick and enjoyable read that reminded me a lot of Sophie Kinsella in style. I had to buy Part 2, and it turned out to be even better. Very fun read, and I look forward to more from this author.
This was a "Part 1" because the author released it for free in order to get people to read it. I read it relatively quickly because I had it on my phone and so it was the easiest thing to read when I was waiting for my nail appointment, or in an elevator that was stopping on EVERY floor, etc., but not necessarily because I really enjoyed it.
The truth is, it ends just when it was actually getting good.
There's about 200 pages of following around a whiny woman who is afraid of everything and blames everything that goes wrong in her life on everyone else. She doesn't have any friends, and she blames that on the people around her, but when people approach her to strike up conversation, she's bitter or sarcastic, and pushes them away (either because she thinks they're making fun of her or that they're not worth her time because she's come to preconceived determinations of their characters.
Fact is, for everything but a very few moments, I didn't like Emily very much at all.
I kept reading because I kind of kept hoping she would learn something or change, and when that change started actually happening (not, mind you, because she actually learns that there's a better way, but because she kind of gives up fighting it), the book ends.
I'm not sure I want to spend another 200-some pages with these characters.
Riley J Ford’s purpose for writing her book Carpe DiEmily was to let her audience know that everyone has a purpose in their lives and not to give up everything so easily. Carpe DiEmily lets the audience know that someone or something is always there for another person to give them and their life some purpose. Everyone has something to live for, big or small. This book can be a day brightener for those who read it. It gives a sense of hope for the people who don’t have any. Carpe DiEmily is sure to have a lasting effect on everyone who reads it.
Carpe DiEmily was exceptionally written. Once you started reading, you definitely could not stop so it was obviously a cliffhanger. Each chapter held a surprise that you had to continue reading to find out what that surprise was. For example, after Emily and her longtime boyfriend Lenny had separated, she decided to commit suicide because she felt like she had no other reason to be alive. When Emily describes herself as “a worthless waste of space, anyway. No one would miss her. Why not give her life some meaning? Why not save someone else?”, Ford’s goal was to make her audience continue to read to see what Emily was going to do next (Ford 86) . The author had a way of foreshadowing many of the points in the story. This made the story come together smoothly which made it a wonderful book to read.
Carpe DiEmily was extremely captivating. Many, many people in the world experience the feelings Emily felt, empty and alone. While reading this book, much of the audience will laugh throughout. Although this book was comical, it had its serious moments. Carpe DiEmily was very relatable. While reading the book, the audience could tie in their own real life situations and connect with it. For example, every girl plans to get married when they get older. Emily was ecstatic when “wondered what would be the best outfit for a wedding proposal. Her wedding proposal, to be exact” (Ford 6).
The greatest strength of Carpe DiEmily was the fact that it was absolutely relatable. The plot of this story was something that could one hundred percent happen and real life… and does. Everything that Emily encountered was something every day people actually really go through. Recently, suicide is very common and reading this book immediately made me think of one of my close friends. Another strength was the fact that every chapter was about the same length. The greatest weakness of Carpe DiEmily was the fact that it ended. It was an amazing story. I would recommend this book to all of my friends and family. This book was very entertaining, and was definitely worth the read. Carpe DiEmily can help with real life situations and potentially mend relationships. This book can also potentially give meaning to another person’s life going through the same things as Emily. Carpe DiEmily is a part of a series, so based on this book I would recommend the others. I think the other books will have a lasting effect just like Carpe DiEmily.
This is the best book I've read all year. It was filled with humor, romance (especially 2nd part), and wacky adventure. There were parts that made me laugh out loud, and other parts that brought me to tears. All in all, a very thoughtfully written book. One of my favorite characters in the book was the dog (yes, the dog!). He reminds me of my own--completely out of control in a hilarious way. I also loved the friendship that developed between the two female characters. And the hunky male lead--oh, wow! More, please. :) Emily is lovable, too, in that neurotic way of hers. She's a woman who takes life too seriously but learns to "seize the day." It was great to see her learn to live outside her too-controlled box. Very funny to see her reactions to the situations she found herself in. So many crazy misadventures that were written in such a funny way that I had to read them out loud to my husband. He cracked up, too, and recommended the book to his co-workers. Anyone who has a good sense of humor will like this book.
I truly think this book is soon to be a "breakout" novel where everyone will be talking about it. It has a very fresh, funny new voice. Completely different than anything I've read lately. I'll be looking for more books from this author in the future, and am hoping for a sequel to Carpe DiEmily.
P.S. Part 1 is currently offered free on Amazon, but you need to buy Part 2 to read the rest. I didn't mind because the price is very cheap for such good entertainment($3.99 for 400+ pages), and the book author.
This story had me hooked from the start. Emily is expecting not only a promotion but a proposal on the same day. I had to keep reading to find out what happened to her because Emily's vulnerability (covered up by her routines and seld-imposed rules) was evident from the start. And when I got to the end of part I, at a particularly tense moment, I immediately bought part II and kept reading. This is a great, fun story.
I really liked this book. The main character Emily, decides to sell her organs so she can have money to fufill her bucket list since she'd planned on committing suicide anyway. It's kind of sad in a way but after she signs on the dotted line, she learns to live a little and her life is one madcap adventure after another. I'm definitely buying the second book in the series, lol
Great book. The main character is so annoying and ridiculous that you want to scream at times. But her unlikely journey causes her to change and that is what was so fun to read. The outrageous storyline is fun and at time very believable. Book number 2 is a must!
Late one night I was looking for a quick read on my e reader, something to make me sleepy. I had down loaded this book some time ago and thought I would give it a try. Much to my surprise it did not make me sleepy at all but kept me reading late into the night and then much to my dismay it stopped!!!! What???? I had missed the small print (part one)!!!!! And my e reader is not downloading!!! I've got to see what happens to Emily!!!!!
I had to fight my way thru this book. I kept reading at first because I thought it just had to get better but it honestly never did. I am not saying that I would never read another book by Riley Ford, but I will not read part 2 of Carpe DiEmily. I hated the main character Emily and I thought it was hard to read about her terrible life and personality.
if you love funny, witty books then this is the book for you. Emily's life just keeps getting more and more messed up and more and more funny. Just wait until you meet her dog AW, you'll never guess what the initials stand for, or why he's named. Can't wait to read Part 2.
I tried reading this book once before and stopped. I wish I would have kept reading it back then. This was a really good book. It had a little of everything. Funny, romance, life lessons, and sadness. Loved it. Try it you won't be sorry.
I thought this book was very funny, and over all, a fantastic read. There were a lot of times I was laughing out loud at the trouble Emily was getting into. I defiantly recomnd this book for a fun read, I can't wait to read the second part.
I won this book and boy am I glad! This book made me laugh and Emily who goes from severely depressed to living is great! I cannot wait to read the second book!
Light hearted and Funny. Apart from the lead character, all the supporting characters are equally intriguinglike Tyler, Simone & who can forget AW. Waiting to read the 2nd part
Grabbed it while surfing through freebie eBooks, thinking it would be fast and fun. And it was! The dog, AW, is hilarious, the antics Emily gets herself into are too. Really enjoyed the idea of what if a girl who lives inside the box suddenly found herself with no box and a life of one comedic twist after another during a time when she thought she had nothing to live for. Looking forward to part 2 as I'm most curious to know what happens with that dog, and if she'll make it to Jamaica...Oh, and I'll purchase the next books, RJF, you're sure to be worth it!
I didn't like the main character at the first. Somehow she grow to me and I started to like her. A bit. She's still quite annoying, but then again, if you've been as closed up for most of your life, "letting go" can't be easy.
What I didn't understand when loading the 1st part was that it really was the 1st part and the book ended almost in mid-sentence and you have to buy the 2nd book to find out how it really ends.
I bought the free preview of this book. It was slow to start and the main character Emily seemed a little hard to like but by the end of the preview, I had to purchase the whole book!!! It just got better and better. It was a lil predictable but I loved it! This book was funny, and I loved the sweet romance. Can't wait to read the second part of the book. Recommend it to anyone who enjoys a sweet chick easy to read flirty book :)
It took a bit to get going, but once it started to go it just kept up the momentum. It was a unique story, with some humour, as well a very real character.
Riley established the character and as the story went on she made her a bit more flexible.
I enjoyed watching Emily transform and cannot wait for the next book. It is worth the read and I recommend it.
