When Frankie Owen drove to her Grandmother’s ocean side cottage to mend a broken heart, she didn’t expect to find letters in the floorboard. What Frankie didn’t know is those letters hold the key to mending her broken heart and finding true love. Letters written by a complete stranger whose words find a direct path to healing Frankie’s broken heart and hope in finding true love.
In Sydney Gibson’s third novel, Let The Wind Eavesdrop, we join Frankie on a magical journey, where she finds love in the written word of a complete stranger who appears to be living in the past, while Frankie is in the future. The story of how true love can transcend time, space, and be more powerful through the written word, is told beautifully in Sydney’s unique style. The book will restore your faith in love, and maybe make you believe that magic is real.
No bias towards this author but she has been ONE of my favorites: her writing and storytelling says it all ---- just a brilliantly interwoven story that will not be a disappointment to any interested readers. 5 stars, Yes! it's worth it -- highly recommended!
All in all it was an okay read. It would have been better had I not known the plot twist from the get go but then the author pilfered the idea straight from a 2006 Sandra Bullock movie called The Lake House. The gateway through space and time was not (like in the movie) a mailbox, but a loose floorboard in the bedroom.
The writing was good, but the plot was propped up with too many magical happenings to keep it from really staying magical (if that makes sense). If you like your characters to declare their love for each other time and time again in these grandiose romantic gestures you're good with this book. It was, however, a bit too twee for my perhaps not-so-delicate sensabilities.
f.f one explicit scene
Theme: there is magic up the wazoo, the ghost of grandma, pulsating necklaces, the ex-fiancé is a classic prick, the quadrangle was a tad contrived don't you think?
If you don't believe in magic, you'll do now. Magical things can happen and nothing is more magical than the power of love. This is a heartwarming fantasy filled with passion and love, magical love. A love I will always remember. The captivating characters will draw you in and hold on tight. This is an unforgettable, breathtaking lovestory with a perfect ending and that I will reread several times. Just sit back, relax and enjoy this amazing book. I wish I could give it 10 stars. Hats off to the author.
5 stars: I'd totally read this again. A very clever modern day fairytail. Beautifully written, amazing storyline, only one steamy and erotic sex scene, just a bit of drama, lots of heart thumping moments and a lovely HEA.
This is a very poetic and beautiful book. I do have quite a few hang-ups, because of the poor editing, but I wouldn't do the book justice if I were to give it less than five stars. The concept of falling in love with someone by getting to know them through letters exchanged even with the supernatural element of doing so through a time-gap is a very beautiful one. I particularly love this as I have often felt a deep connection with people whom I just know through conversing with online. Again as I have stated in my other review about Redemptio Animae I enjoyed the easygoing acceptance of a woman falling for another woman, even though she had a relationship with a man before. It is nice not to read about self-doubts about being attracted to a certain gender, but reading about the self-doubts connected with falling for someone and not knowing if this attraction is mutual. It makes for a very nice change. I am also very taken with both characters, their love for books, for poetry, for seeing the magical in the sound of waves crashing on the beach.
After going through the floorboard mail magic, and accidental meetings I was afraid that Carey would disappear. Loved the story but the rush to tie everything up could have been better.
Interesting concept but desperately needs an editor
While the concept of this story was intriguing, the execution left a lot to be desired. There were many incomplete sentences and awkward phrasings. My biggest quibble is the fact that a lot of the story takes place on Nantucket, but the author seems to have no idea that Nantucket is an island. Travel to and from the island by car requires a ferry ride of more than two hours. Five minutes spent in the company of Google Maps would show that Toronto is over 11 hours away and Manhattan is 200 miles west and six and a half hours by car.
There are many additional problems, but I will leave them to other readers to discover and point out. This novel is not up to the standard set by the author's previous work.
I truly liked this book. I loved both characters. Frankie was extremely likable even if she was a tad bit slow on the uptake of the time.difference.She was smart and funny, somewhat like a best friend.Carey was brilliant and beautiful, and so very kind and forgiving.A different kind of love story. No, a refreshing kind of love story.Just...so much fun to read. And I loved the ghost of Frankie's grandmother. Nice addition.Story well finished with nothing left to wonder about.Great closure.
An absolutely wonderful fairytale come true story! It was hard to put down once I started reading it! If you believe in true love and care with a little bit of magic thrown in, definitely take this for a Reading ride.
3.5 stars. I really enjoy the author’s fantasy/sci-fi works but this one didn’t grab me like the others. I’ll continue to look forward to and read her new books as they come out.
What a great read! A wonderful story with truly wonderful characters. I recommend this book 100 percent. There was nothing about it that I didn't love. Sidney Gibson wrote a great first book. A great second book, at least until one of the main characters became a revenge loving, emotionless, cold, sociopath, and now the best of them all. Very well done. I believe I will read it again and again. It is just too good to resist.
I must say I am beginning to love these books by Gibson. She is a truly talented author. But I would caution readers......don't start reading Gibson novels unless you can commit the time to finish it. It was engrossing and I could not put it down. I want so badly to know how the lover would meet. I hated to put this book down, even for a moment. I feel good read. I highly recommend this book.
This is a romance that is truly what fairy tales are made of. They met in ones past and the others future through the urging of a loving grandmother. She wove magic , they wrote letters then fell in love. Finding one another after years/months separation. When you explore this magical tale you will believe in love and romance and fairytales all over again. It is pure joy.
Sydney sure knows how to pull me in right from the beginning.
LTWE is a bit lighter than her other two books. Slow burn romance seems to be her specialty! But the slow burn makes it sooooo worth it! The relationship she has created is "magical".
I will always be one of the first to buy anything Sydney writes! I'm hooked!
I couldn't put this book down. I don't usually read stories with the plot based on fantasy or magic, but I had to keep reading to find out what was happening. This is a beautiful love story with well developed characters and a twist or two that you don't coming. Read this book.
When I first read the synopsis of this book, I wasn't too sure if I would like it. I was pulled into the story from the first page, and I can honestly say that it is one of the best books I have read so far! Well done!
