Beautiful art. One simple line per page. It starts out in winter and shows the stages of Apples. Simple and for beginners.

The Nephew enjoyed it as it was so short. It did have a nice write up at the end, but I read that and not to the nephew.

3.5 STARS We are gearing up for apple picking time here and this was a pleasant read-aloud. The story itself can be enjoyed even by the very young, it's quite short with only a few words per page and lovely illustrations. The back matter goes more in-depth about how apples grow and is appropriate for early elementary crowd.

I picked up this book after seeing it at the library a number of times and then learning that Hubbell is a local author. Apples tells the story of apples from buds on a tree to apples in recipes, using simple text and many colored pencil illustrations. Hubbell illustrates this yearly cycle of apple tree life through lively scenes of children and adults enjoying the trees. This book is an ode to trees and life. I learned more than I ever could have imagined about how apples grow in Hubbell's brief author's note. Cute and informative book.

The cover doesn't do this book justice! They should have used the apple blossom in the grove picture but that is just my opinion, A really nice non fiction narrative book. I like the talking points at the end! Nice while I am enjoying my apple juice!!

Charming little book about the yearly growth cycle of apples. Simple book, with more told in the illustrations (which are lovely!) than in the text. I appreciated the multi-ethnic cast of kids and the inclusion of both Hanukkah and Christmas. I got a big laugh out of the illustration of the little one getting an apple in his Christmas stocking, though. He does NOT look pleased at the gift! If anything, he looks a little annoyed that he's getting fruit instead of presents! How's that for realism? LOL!

Well done - shows the seasons of the apple tree and imagines the apples that are there all along - in the buds, blossoms, etc. The paintings also feature diverse kids enjoying the orchard and the apples.
