Six crazy cars, five outlandish courses, one winner ...buckle up for WHEELNUTS, the craziest race on earth! Eccentric billionaire Warren Wheelie Wheelnut has decided to mount the biggest, maddest, most off-the-scale competition ever! He has created five extreme race tracks: from the desert to a haunted town to outer space, underwater and dense jungle, its not chicanes and hairpin turns the drivers need to be worried about, its aliens and giant squid!
Both Knife and Packer spent most of their childhood’s in London - but on different sides of the river. Knife in South London and Packer in North London. Although they wouldn’t meet for another 20 years they were already heading in the same direction. Knife loved to draw, taking inspiration from Ronald Searle, The Dandy and Beano. Meanwhile in North London Packer loved to read, enjoying everything from Dr Brainstorm to Willard Price and Asterix to Tintin. So even though they hadn’t met they were already laying the ground work for their partnership writing and illustrating books together. In their spare time Knife was happiest playing with his toy soldiers, whilst Packer would head down to the Regents Canal with a pint of maggots and even catch the odd fish!
I read all five of these books to my boys so I'm counting it toward my reading challenge.
I've been searching to find books that will interest my 7 year old enough to keep him excited about reading. These books play out like a Nintendo game: races with challenges, upgrades, cheats, and trophies so boys absolutely LOVE them. My oldest begs for me to read now. To add to the fun at the beginning of the first book everyone in our family selected a car and we pretend that we are the drivers of our chosen car which has made it extra exciting as we are rooting for our racers. We also award the winners of each book with little mint candies. It's been a blast. The full color glossy illustrations and text layout have also helped a ton with holding their interest. These books aren't great literature but are downright fun. The books also lend well to doing funny voices since the cast of characters includes dinos, fairies, babies, popstar singers, robots, and a grandpa/grandson duo.
And they are off. Five crazy cars driven by even crazier drivers and navigators. They are ready for the next leg of the craziest race on Earth. The teams have already conquered desert, snow, jungle, and underwater terrains, plus the moon. Now driving on this final leg of the WheelNuts racing the team must conquer the rainforest. Billionaire Warren “Wheelie” Wheelnut masterminded this absurd race, never believing these teams could finish his monstrous racecourses. They have, and the final winner is . . .
