The beginning felt a little awkward with a more abrupt start and stop and go flashbacks to Alex's childhood. It was hard to really connect and sympathize with him, when his background felt more like a stark rendition rather than an emotional immersion. The interactions between Alex and Kat were stiff and the transitions were a bit jarring, which hurt the flow of the story for me. I've never read this author before, so maybe her writing style isn't for me but the tone and flow didn't really work for me. Overall, Alex and Kat had some spark but I needed more depth.

There are so many things in this book that didn't work and didn't make sense to me. I'll be honest and say I gave up at the 75% mark. I just couldn't do it anymore. When I received the review request, I accepted because I like political romance and I had not heard of this author. Kat is a newspaper reporter, Alex is running for mayor of NYC. SO much didn't work for me in this one:

When Kat is attacked on the subway (serioulsy attacked and almost raped) a video emerges of Alex holding the perpatrator down and it appears that Alex is the one being violent. Kat ends up defending Alex, and no one even comments on the fact that Kat was almost raped. She is the one that has to apologize because the video makes it look like Alex was in the wrong. She admits she feels guilty for the whole ordeal and everyone just kind of nods their heads. --- no.

When Alex and Kat are in an ambulance after the attack, on the way to the hospital, they are just sitting in the back of the amublance - not strapped to a bed. There is no paramedic in the back with them. Just one driver who runs over potholes and they get bounced around, further injuring Kate. Huh?? Aren't you always on a bed with a paramedic? Isn't that the point of an ambulance? When they get to the hospital the driver opens the door and they have to go wait in line to be seen. Aren't you immediately wheeled back if you arrive by ambulance? This made zero sense.

There is more but since this is just a "mini review" those are the two biggest.

I was provided a copy of In My Arms Tonight in exchange for an honest review. This is book 2 in the NYC Singles series, however it reads fine as a standalone. The beginning of the book is tragic and sucks you into the horrible heartbreaking past of Alex Summer. All Alex wants is a place to belong and for someone, anyone to love him, truly love him. Even being a successful politician running for Mayor of NYC he still struggles with past hurts and insecurities. Alex is a character that you immediately fall in love with, at least I did.

Kat came across a self-involved bitch. She slowly grew on me but I never fell in love with her. I liked her stance on not wanting to be pestered constantly on having kids and getting married; but she comes off so aggressive, that it really didn’t make me love her as a character.

Kat’s dilemma in the story was interesting. She is dating Alex and they are in love yet he is hiding a sorted past. Being a reporter, sitting on such a juicy story, conflicts with her on a personal and professional level. Does she shirk love and run the story? Or does she sacrifice her integrity and bury the story?

This is a story that I really got into and finished in a day. Even though I didn’t love Kat, I fell in love with Alex. It made me really dig in and become absorbed in this world. Clinton wrote such raw emotions that I felt with every page....Sara

In My Arms Tonight is a standalone, HEA, political romance.

Kat is, for the most part, a strong minded moral compass. She is respected in her field as a reporter for always "doing the right thing." Some of her life rules I felt a bit stringent, but hey, to each their own. She meets Alex, who is running for Mayor, and later gets assigned to cover the mayoral race.

Alex is a great person, doing charity work, but he and Kat are on different spectrum's politically. He wants to be the mayor to do great things for the city. I liked Alex as the hero in this story. He has a dark past but didn't let that kept him from maturing into a good man.

The epilogue was interesting and I enjoyed it and was glad it wasn't the standard HEA.

The story is fast paced. There are a few twist that keep it interesting. I struggled with a few things, but overall was a good read. I had a bit of a time connecting with Kat.

I was gifted a copy for an honest review.

The story was well written, it moved along very nicely which I enjoyed. From the beginning of this book I did not feel that I wanted thing to move along quicker. The characters were very enjoyable expecially with their interaction with each other, it did take a while for Kat and Alex to realise what was between them but once they did it was amazing and you can see instantly how much Alex feels for Kat.

It all starts when Alex and Kat both take the subway, unfortunately for Kat someone tries to attack her, however, Alex is there to save the day. The problem with Alex saving the day was his career, he is currently running for Mayor of New York and any bad press on him is alwasy twisted so when the video goes viral of Alex defending Kat all people see is Alex beating up this guy in the subway. Kat though feeling terrible about this, comes forward and tells the full story of what happend.

Kat and Alex can't deny there is something between them, however, because of Alex career any relationship must be kept secret. Kat on the other hand has another dilema, she is a policical journalist and has been given the task to write a story on Alex and expose all his dark secrets, the decisions she has has to make are difficult ones for her and you can feel the angst here with her.

Will Kat write the story and expose everything on Alex and therefore ruin any happiness she has with him or will she rule to keep her relationship alive with Alex and reject writing this story? you will have to read the book to find out.

The first book by this author I have read but I truly enjoyed it and felt that the writing was lovely and thoroughly enjoyed reading this story. The way Sasha describes everything was down to an art and made you feel as if you were actually a fly on the wall watching over these characters.

I would highly recommend this story to everyone.

Do you believe that anyone can overcome the darkness, walk toward the light. Walk away from the bad and do good in their life?

Kat was all about getting to the nitty gritty of story at any cost, and the latest Mayoral Campaign was the perfect opportunity to dig up the dirt and show the city who was truly behind the candidates running.

Cole was ambitious and determined to make a difference, he was going to really bring his A-Game to this campaign.

A traumatic event causes Kat and Cole to cross paths. Cole saving Kat from a drunken attack. In that moment they were just being themselves, not Cole the Mayoral candidate and not Kat the journalist, just Cole and Kat.

Their paths continue to cross and inevitably the chemistry between them engulfs them both.

While things progress in private between Kat and Cole, the story behind Cole's past comes to Kat's attention and she soon becomes torn between her heart and her job.

While we can overcome events from our past, there is always someone or something to remind us of where we came from.

A hot romance between two highly motivated career orientated people, there only vice is themselves!

Book #2 in Sasha Clinton's NYC Singles Series. A great story with fantastic characters...this is one series you don't want to miss!

The book starts with Cole. He had a childhood leaving him feel unloved. It’s unfortunate to see how people were always letting him down. The sad part is that it probably actually happens out there – breaks your heart. Kat Cullen has a job that’s very tough to do. The author gives the reader glimpses into her past that shows how it has shaped her future. Alex Summer is a man who wants to get into local politics. For me, I loved how the author slowly introduces the reader to Kat’s sister, Keira. She’ll steal your heart and the scene plus she’ll have you laughing.

We see Alex perform an act of heroism that brings him and Kat together. As we get to see these two together we see how relaxed they are around each other. But either Kat has insecurities, or part of her past, that seems to be creating roadblocks. These roadblocks are one incentive to keep reading.

One thing I found sad was Kat’s connection with her parents. You might wonder what that has to do with the story but it’s one more thing into who she is as a person. Because both our characters reveal themselves slowly it gives the reader a connection and a way to learn more about who they are as a person. We also learn about the difference in their ages, which we see from time to time. Sometimes it’s evident with their actions and deeds. For me it’s a story that’s not all about the romance either. It shows that your life is what you make of it – you can turn your life around. Your childhood may be tough but if you have confidence in yourself you can change your future.

One thing that will have you turning the page is hints of Alex’s past. And with Kat being a journalist you have to figure that she will let us know what she finds. But he also mans up, which means that he feels comfortable exposing himself to her. And we also see that theirs is an up and down relationship. The ending left me with a kinda happy ending but then it doesn’t surprise me knowing who Kat is. I look forward to reading more of this series.

I received this book for review from the author. I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

IN MY ARMS TONIGHT by Sasha Clinton was a really good read, it all the elements that you look for in a political/romance novel, Kat and Alex really swept me away with their story.

The story in this book was very well written and the plot was very fast paced, from page one of this book I was hooked and the characters in this book were wonderfully written and well developed, however I have to say that at first I did not see the sparks between Kat and Alex, but as the book goes on I see how deeply Alex cares for Kat.

Kat and Alex meet when they both decide to take the subway at the same time, but the wrong time for Kat when someone attacks her but Alex comes to the rescue, as a side note you all should know that Alex is running for Mayor of New York, so when someone posts a video of Alex beating the guy who attacked Kat, its spun so that it looks like Alex attacked the guy for no reason. In order to help save face for Alex, Kat decides to come forward and tell the city what really happened. Alex and Kat start a secret relationship when Alex happens upon Kat's doorstep while campaigning and that's when the sparks really start to come alive, but as with any relationship there are always bumps in the road and for Alex and Kat when Kat is asked to write a story (she is apolitical journalist) exposing Alex's past. Will Kat be able to write the story she has been asked to or will she put her relationship with Alex ahead of her career?

IN MY ARMS TONIGHT by Sasha Clinton was my very first read by this author, and I was not disappointed, I just wish there was more to Kat and Alex's story, it seems a little unfinished. I would give IN MY ARMS TONIGHT 4/5 stars.

When Alex Summer steps in to protect an innocent woman from being harmed his public persona takes a hit in the media, and that's not something he can afford right now. He is hoping to become the next mayor of New York, and having the media paint a less than stellar picture of you is not something you want to get out at a time like that. He gets a surprise though when that woman steps forward and helps him out by telling her story and setting the record straight, and in doing so a friendship forms, and soon the sparks start to fly...

After having one of the most traumatizing experiences of her life Kat Cullen, finds herself being saved by a handsome politician. But when the media gets a hold of the incident, and he's painted poorly in the media because of it, she feels obligated to come to his rescue this time. She puts on a brave face, and tells her side of the story, and soon finds herself in a secret relationship with her hero... the problem is she is the enemy, and has been hired to dig up dirt on him, and it completely throws her moral compass out of sync. And she's left with the hardest decision of her life...

This was my first time reading a book by this author, and I have to say that I really enjoyed it, so much so, I plan to add more of her books to my reading list. Her intriguing story line and endearing characters pulled me almost immediately and had me staying up well past my bedtime just to finish it! I think it is safe to say that Ms. Clinton has a hit on her hands with this one!! If you like spicy romance stories with a political twist, then this is the perfect read for you!! Highly recommend you give it a try, it's sure to satisfy!!

Gifted in return for an honest review for Amo & Sarahs Book Corner!

Kat Cullen is a 32 year old reporter for New York Times and has just been asked to cover the upcoming elections.
Alex summers aka Alex Cole is a 46 year old, who had a troubled childhood in and out of foster homes and foster families and therefore ended up in trouble a lot which ultimately resulted in him being sent to prison. He is now one of the leading candidates in the upcoming elections that Kat has been asked to cover.
Neither Alex or Kat expected the turn of events that happened after Alex saved her from a rapist in the middle of a tube train late one evening. All seems to be going well for them both at the beginning but will there new found relationship be able to stay that way when Kat is asked to look into Alex’s past in order to save her job and Alex willingly divulges everything without realising that Kat has been asked to do this.

Throughout the book these questions kept running through my mind. Will Kat let her head choose and continue with the story and break Alex’s heart and ruin his career in the process or will she let her heart choose and choose Alex even if it means losing her job and her friends in the process? Will Kat be able to overcome her own insecurities in order to support Alex when he needs it the most?

Ive given this book a 5 star rating and review because it had me gripped from the first chapter till the last and left me not knowing what was going to happen as I turned the page. For this book I recommend that you have enough time to read it in one go because once you start reading it you won’t be able to put it down until you have read the very last word.

I liked this book so much more than I even thought I would. The beginning of the story was heartbreaking - it grabs your attention right away. What I really liked about this book was its not just about the romance. There is a lot going on in here. This story has depth, its interesting, it makes you want to read more. I liked the political aspect (Alex is running for mayor) especially now with the presidential race going on. I think I read this at a good time.

Very good character development, I loved both Kat and Alex. They were both very likable and real to me. I liked the relationship they had between them. I liked that Kat struggled with doing the right thing for the right reasons. We all struggle with things like that. I don't know what kind of a choice I would have made if I were Kat. Actually she kind of surprised me. I am glad that she did what she did - and it had a great ending.
I loved Alex/Cole right from the beginning. I was worried that I might not like him all through the book - but.. his character stayed true for me and I just fell more deeply in love with him. I would say - he had good roots, a good heart under that bad boy exterior. Let's face it - we love reading about bad boys!

I was very surprised that this was only Sasha's second novel (the second in the NYC Singles series) because she doesn't read like a new author. I totally expected to go to her website and see about 50 books! I am definitely going to read the other books in this series. This was a fun, heartfelt, easy flowing read.

I will be reading and reviewing Love me Like you Do (NYC Singles #3) on Jan. 18.

I voluntarily posted this review after receiving this book from the author, Sasha Clinton. Thank you!

Kat is a political reporter for a big New York paper. She loves her job. Kat has never let anyone dissuade from writing the truth. She also has some very definite ideas about dating, marriage and children. When her boss sends her to cover a local event, Kat attends but isn't convinced the candidate is good for New York. She has no idea just how much that one event will change her life.

This story is perfect for this time of year. I enjoyed the writing and the characters very much. I can actually picture the story happening in reality. Ms. Clinton is a gifted story teller and she knows how to build characters you will want to learn more about. This is one for the TBR pile. The strong female lead character is definitely a work of art. I recommend you get this one today.

I did find issues. The first chapter or so is unnecessary. All the information contained in it can be given after the story begins. I also felt the epilogue could have been shorter.

I gave this book 4 cheers out of 5 because it's a stay-in-your-seat-until-you-finish kinda book. ~Copy of book provided by author in exchange for a fair review~

What a deep foundation, strong morals and the magic of forgiveness.
In this story you get romance, love, politics, independence, and much, much more.

Alex Summers is running for mayor, but he has a dark past that could ruin his career.
Kat Cullen is a journalist who has the power to destroy Alex with all she knows. But then certain circumstances brings them together and makes them both realize the things they didn't think were possible before.

Sasha Clinton has a writting style all her own. The characters are so expertly written that I could not help but utterly adore them all.
It is difficult to stay true to yourself at the risk of another. But with the chance to make things right the possibilities are endless.

Shear reading pleasure. Thank you Sasha for a story that will keep me revisiting, just because it's that good.♡

Journalist Kat Cullen never expected Alex Summer the man running for mayor of New York to come to her rescue as she is attacked on the subway. But when a video goes viral on the internet making it look like Alex is just beating up some guy, it's up to Kat to set the record straight.

As Kat and Alex get close, Kat is set an assignment to dig up some dirt on Alex, will she put her feelings for him or her job first

While this political/romance was enjoyable it was a little rushed at times and I felt there could of been more to their story. There could of been a bit more drama for the storyline I warmed to Alex more than I did to Kat as the story progressed, but all in all a very enjoyable read.

It is the kind of story that stuck with me simply because the main characters were exceptionally well developed. This allowed me to appreciate a different point of view, even when it wasn’t the kind of warm comfy blanket of a story I’d usually luxuriate in.

So this ends in an immature HEA. I liked the characters but I can't believe that she sold him out for the sake of her career and he just gets over it. They have a relationship and she told him nothing of her guilt and her struggles. Yet he forgives her in a blink? Lacks depth and a connection to reality.

That was definitely a quick read - before I noticed, I was already at 70% 😆

In my opinion, this book was much better than the previous one in this series. I think it’s mostly because Alex was a lot less toxic and annoying than Andrew was.
I’m trying to take into consideration that this book is short, but still, everything seemed to happen too fast, and while I could observe some journey in Alex, I can’t say the same about Kat. I wish that there was a bit more of them talking out things, trying to plan together.

I did like the way things ended and the fact that a “typical” HEA (like marriage and/or pregnancy) wasn’t forced onto the characters - they had the kind of relationship that was best for them and it fit the story and their characters.

The connection to the previous book wasn’t too strong which makes sense considering the length of this book, but I appreciated that there were a few scenes with Ashley.

What if you can’t help but hurt the person you love?

Kat Cullen has it all—a staff writer position at the New York Times, beauty, independence—until she finds herself alone on the subway at night with a rapist. Saved by Alex Summer, a democratic candidate running for mayor of New York, she develops an unexpected friendship with him.

Alex’s chaotic past is the kind of juicy scoop every political reporter dreams of—which is why he keeps it hidden. But as he starts falling in love with Kat, he opens up to her about his darkest secrets. What he doesn’t know is that Kat already knows all about him, and she’s on an assignment to expose his history.

Caught between truth, love and ambition, two people must figure out the politics of the heart.

Review:
This is the second book of the NYC Singles series. I read book one after I read book 2. No problem here. Both books are stand alone stories with mutual characters. I enjoyed reading this book, but after reading the first book I felt that there were missing parts to the story. Book two mentions things that happened in Kat’s past, but never elaborated on what happened. I thought that I would find out when I read book 1, but I didn’t. Book 2 is Kat’s story. Plot-Kat works as a political reporter for the NY Times. When Kat is rescued from a subway attack by Alex Summer, things get complicated. Alex is trying to secure the Democratic nomination for the Mayor of the City of New York. He is also the subject of Kat’s investigation. When They can’t fight the attraction towards one another, Kat tries to protect Alex from the story that she is supposed to publish. Feeling that she has compromised her integrity as a reporter, Kat publishes her story and her relationship with Alex suffers. This story has hot chemistry and is paced well. As I mentioned I feel that there were missing parts, but maybe the review copy that I received was not complete. I liked the ending, but I felt that the character development was lacking. I sill liked this book and would recommend it to fellow romance readers.

Remember that movie from the 90's, The American President, where the President falls in love with a lobbyist, and it could be detrimental to his career?

That was the vibe I got from In My Arms Tonight.

Mayoral candidate Alex and political journalist Kat Cullen's relationship didn't start off in the normal way, and from that moment on it was on like Donkey Kong. There is so much spark between them, but both of them know that it can't be. They know what being together could do to both of their careers, but also know that what they feel doesn't come along every day.

I adored the push/pull between them. And not just between them, but also in each of their minds.

I wanted them to be together, I wanted them to say stuff it, let's do this. I wanted them to take that leap, to take a chance on falling in love.

I felt for Kat when she had to make decisions about doing what she knows she has to do and protecting the man she is falling for.

I did feel though that when things happened, they were all wrapped up a little too nicely and a lot to quickly for my liking (but this may just be me). I wanted more anger, more angst, maybe some begging and pleading! Don't get me wrong, I wanted them to have a HEA but I wanted them to fight for it. I kind of felt that things were a little unfinished (again, this could just be me).

I am not going to lie - it did take me a while to connect with both characters, but Kat more than Alex. I think what we got of Alex at the beginning helped with the connect. It also took a while for me to feel the connection between the pair, but once I did it was quite palpable.

This is my first Sasha Clinton read, and I will read more in the future.

What's more forbidden than a romance between the mayoral candidate for the city of New York and an investigative reporter sent to do a story on his past? With a tragic backstory, Alex Summers craves power to off-set the loss of control in his youth, yet wants to make the city a better place. I loved how buttoned up he comes off, but he's hiding a tattooed wild side. The natural conflict of interest drives Alex and Kat's relationship, but Kat made some choices throughout the story that made her not very likable. While there is a lot going on throughout the book, this steamy read has a guaranteed happy ending!

I received this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review, which was originally posted on book blog Will Read for Feels.

I’ve been so stressed out by local and international politics recently that I wasn’t sure I’d be able to get into Sasha Clinton’s In My Arms Tonight, especially since this was the sophomore read in the author’s NYC Singles series, and I hadn’t yet read book one. But I decided to give it a try and was pleasantly surprised to find myself fairly engrossed.

The romantic potential between a journalist and the person being written about is something I’ve explored before. Some of my more well-loved authors, including Nora Roberts and Diana Palmer and, more recently, Eva Leigh, have written romances in which the interviewer and investigator falls for the subject of the story they are writing. Typically, the tension arises from the journalist pursuing an angle that reveals a secret the other person would rather keep private, and once the story is written and published, things get pretty explosive.

This is true in In My Arms Tonight as well, but rather than being bored because I knew the pattern of what was going to happen, I found myself more able to invest myself in getting to know the characters individually as a couple. For me, this was one of those reads where, because I knew my destination, I could sit back and enjoy the scenery as the book took me on the journey to get there.

Now, as for the characters, I found it fairly easy to relate to Kat, as I know the pressure of a fast-paced media company all too well, even if I’ve never taken the investigative journalist track. Even when I saw the decisions she made and knew them for the mistakes they were, I understood where she was coming from and why she made them.

Alex, on the other hand, was a hero I admired right away. I enjoyed the fact that he was older than most romance novel love interests, and this meant he was past some of the issues that typically plague heroes in their 20s and early 30s. The scenes from his boyhood tugged hard at my heartstrings—having been adopted myself, I know I dodged the bullet Alex caught when he grew up a ward of the state. It only made me like the man he grew up to become even more.

I have to say, I don’t know if I would have enjoyed this book quite so much if I had been on edge, wondering what would happen from scene to scene, and it’s made me appreciate this kind of read even more because I got to explore the whys and wherefores of the main characters, something I usually only get to do when I reread a book. So my experience of In My Arms Tonight ended up being a pretty great combination of the new and the familiar. And, hey! It let me think about politics in general without thinking about politics in terms of the very stressful current situation the world finds itself, so that definitely offers plus points in my book!

Kat is living a good life. She has a nice job as a staff writer at the New York Times and she loves to write about politics. Because of her job Kat works crazy hours. One night she is at the subway alone and a man tries to attack her. Luckily for Kat Alex enters the station and is able to rescue her. Alex is one of the candidates running for mayor of New York and the whole event is being filmed and posted on the internet. Because of Alex's political career damage control has to be done.

Kat finds herself next to Alex doing numerous interviews. During this time they can't help but grow closer together. Alex wasn't looking for any extra publicity or love, but he had to save Kat from being hurt. Alex is hiding a big secret of his own. One he doesn't want anybody to find out. When Kat is being asked for a once-in-a-lifetime job she has to choose between Alex and her political believes.

Kat is a loyal employee and she is very good at what she does. I enjoyed reading about her believes and her decision-making process. Kat is a big believer of the fact that honesty is best policy. Because of that Kat will do whatever it takes to always tell the truth to her readers. She is an incredibly strong woman who isn't afraid to show her emotions. She has a great personality and I liked her a lot.

Alex went through hell when he was just a young boy. He's done a good job covering up his younger years and has fought hard to be where he is now. He desperately wants to keep things that way. Alex only had one serious relationship in his life. He wanted to marry this woman, but she left him. He finds it difficult to confide in Kat and to be truthful about his feelings for her. He saved her and is a true hero. He overcame his past and made a better life for himself. Alex still has issues to work through though and I loved watching his character evolve throughout the story.

In My Arms Tonight is an emotional read that grabbed me from the start. Kat and Alex both warmed my heart in their own way. Sasha Clinton surprised me with some of the twist and turns in her story and they made me fly through the pages. I love it when a book makes me feel many different things at the same time and really enjoyed In My Arms Tonight because of this.

In My Arms Tonight by Sasha Clinton
M/F Political Romance
3.5 stars (rounded to 4)
I was given this book for an honest review by Bookwhoresbrothel.

Hmm, where to start... This was an easy book to read. It was fast paced and well thought out.

I did have some issues with the relationships within this story. Alex is somewhat of a bad boy in his past, but he works hard at reinventing himself. Despite the new identity, he knows that some day, his past might come back and bite him.

Then you have Min-Jung, a friend of Kat's. I thought she was fairly opinionated and harsh in this story. And, while she didn't have much of an appearance, I thought that she was a disappointment, regardless.

Then you have Kat. She is a strong, independent political writer who ends up falling for her story. It seems that she has some strange boundaries and is not mature enough to know where that line should have been drawn. I didn't much care for her character at all.

Overall, while this was a HEA, I felt that there were holes in the story and the miscommunication between the two main characters was blatant. I just couldn't really believe that these two would have developed the relationship they did, that the story would have turned out as HEA as it did.

Despite my mixed feelings on the morals of the characters and the somewhat strange relationship, Clinton wrote what she promised - a political HEA romance.
