No Pink Caddy

Rate this book
How fast can a pink ’57 Cadillac whisk me away from my dead-end life? Because my twenties have been less than what was promised in the college brochure.

Then one day, it happens. Instead of falling in love with my best friend like I was supposed to, I meet a rock star who happens to be a fan of my site, NoPinkCaddy.com. You’d think that would be where the story ended, but it’s actually just the beginning.

How does a southern girl from New Orleans, who just wants to make her own way in the world, merge her life with that of one of the hottest rock stars on the planet? Well, let me tell you, it’s not easy.
This book is recommended for anyone who refuses to take the easy road in life, and those girls who dream of falling in love with a rock star. It’s not all tight jeans and guitar serenades, but hot damn, there are some fun times along the way.

This book is recommended for readers over the age of 18.

Layne Harper is a mom, wife, book junkie, and sports fanatic. However, when the kids and husband are safely ensconced at school and work, she slips into her office with her three rescue dogs and writes until it’s time to drive carpool. Her children have no idea about her secret life (and they hopefully never will), and the dogs won’t tell. She’s always writing in her mind though and making notes on whatever is close by; envelopes, napkins, a kid’s homework…

I'm going to revert back to a lesson that we all learned as kids. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. So on this note, I'm going to leave the rest blank and not talk about this book at all.

There are times like this that I wish I were better at writing book reviews! This is the first book I've read by Layne Harper. I think I've found a new favorite author.

This book has the perfect mix of romance, humor and angst. I'll admit that I am a sucker for a good Rock Star scenario but this story was so much more.

MK is feeling a little out of sorts since she has just turned 30 and is not in a serious relationship/married and has no children. She's very comfortable in her own skin and extremely talented in many ways. She has her own blog on the Internet and has become quite famous in her own New Orleans town. She's very quick thinking and often says, does and thinks the things that we all wish we could say and do.

Aaron/Johnny has been a famous Rock Star (God) for the past 20 years. He happens upon MK's blog site and decides that he needs to meet her. He's swoon- worthy, HOT and quite the romantic. ( looks like Kellan Kyle/ romantic like Ryan Christensen)

You'll have to read this book to find out what happens next. I'll just say.. If books could have babies--- this book is the baby of a ménage between Thoughtless (minus annoying Kiera) , The Mighty Storm and Love Unscripted.

I went into this book really not knowing what it was going to be about. I read anything by Layne Harper and she has never disappointed me, and again this is the case. You will LOVE Aaron and MK.

MK is 30 years old, a video blogger by passion and a full-time human resource executive by day. She works at the company owned by her ex-boyfriend. Familial bonds created the job and MK has stayed. She doesn’t particularly like her job; she wants to do the blogging full time, and she also loves the ladies that she works with. She is a devoted employee and gives way over 100% of herself to the job. Any employer would be fortunate to have her dedication and her ability to keep the morale high in the workplace. Ex-boyfriend doesn’t see it this way. We don’t get much of a glimpse of him until it’s time for MK to announce her decision to choose full-time blogging and then he’s a royal piece of crap. Good thing she dumped him years ago!

Speaking of exes…There’s also Tripp. Tripp and MK are still really good friends. They tried the dating thing as teenagers and there wasn’t a spark of chemistry between them. You couldn’t light a piece of dry kindle with their heat. They decided they would be better off as best friends. Unfortunately, Tripp is still living on hope that MK will re-ignite the passion. MK knows this will never be the case and tries to let him down easily, but sometimes you just have to speak the truth even though you know it’s going to hurt like a b*tch.

“You’re my best friend. You’ll always be. But let me go.”

Now if you want to talk heat, chemistry and passion, MK finds this all by chance the moment she meets fedora-wearing Aaron. Aaron comes off as a little stalkerish and lacking social skills. He knows no boundaries. But HOLY H&LL do MK and Aaron light up the pages with their heat. There is something a little off with Aaron, but in his defense he gives MK plenty of opportunities to find out who he really is.

“I need you to Google me and read all the sh*t that’s out there. A lot of it’s good, some of it’s bad, and then there’s the sh*t I’m not proud of, but it’s me. I’m only willing to pursue this thing between us once your eyes are fully open to who I am.”

That would definitely scare me off, but not MK. She is trusting (maybe actually a little bit naïve) and sees the good in everybody. How bad can Aaron’s back story really be?

“You have to understand my life has an eighteen-wheeler full of baggage I’m towing.”

Aaron is definitely not scared to speak the facts…wait…he doesn’t speak them, but at least owns up to his past. That is worth something, right? MK is a level-headed woman. She thinks the same way I do. The past is the past…the future is what matters here. Being with Aaron is fun, uplifting, and crazy good, but yet it is also draining. Aaron needs MK the way he would need his next hit…she is his new addiction.

MK and I agree on something else—we need a stable Aaron. I almost feel as if MK is me…I totally understand her and how she couldn’t immediately let go of Aaron when truths and the past kept slapping her in the face. But in the end, I think she shows more strength than I could in that position. I mean he’s a rock star… who wouldn’t turn a blind eye to him?? MK…strong as an ox MK…she knows how to fight.

“Give me the whole and complete man I deserve.”

Ahhh…an ultimatum. Smart move MK…Well played…

I have to admit I kept myself at bay at the beginning of this book. This wasn’t the usual Layne Harper I was used to reading. I was used to in-depth drama and heart pulls. It took just a little while, but it’s all there. I ended up loving the social media introductions of each chapter and it kept a light playful reference to the slow-building drama that you just know is going to reach a pinnacle. I loved MK and Aaron. They are meant to be together. I am definitely not a fan of instalove, but this felt more to me like a cataclysmic coupling, which is definitely a rare find for me to admit. Here’s me raising my glass to MK and Aaron – may you find your future and happiness… Book 2 can’t get here fast enough.

Growing up in the 1980’s, when I picture a pink Cadillac, I envision teased hair, lots of make-up and parties that my mom wouldn’t let me go to with her—it was a girl’s night out. But No Pink Caddy by Layne Harper is not about selling Mary Kay; it’s about a woman trying to find her way, make her own way in the world—one blog post at a time.

Mary Kay (MK) Landry, by day, is stuck in a dead-end job as a Human Resources Manager. By night, she’s a popular blogger and owner of the NoPinkCaddy.com website. MK has great friends, but her twenties have been somewhat disappointing to her. Until the day she meets Aaron. It’s a random meeting at the local’s bar in New Orleans that MK frequents every Tuesday night. Or is it?

Their romance is quick and amazing. They’re great together—even under the bright, hot lights of Aaron’s celebrity. But not all is as it seems—falling in love with a rock star isn’t as glamorous behind the scenes. And it takes some adjusting and patience to make it work. Is it worth it?

When I first started No Pink Caddy, I was immediately immersed in the story. I loved MK from the start, especially her interactions and conversations with her best friend, Bella (*who needs her own book*). I loved MK’s independence and her ability to stand up for herself, even when confronted by the vilest of people.

Aaron, on the other hand, was a bit of an enigma—partly coming across as a needy, self-indulgent rock star, partly coming across as a man who just happens to be famous and is doing the best he can to live normally. But he is lovable, and I found myself wanting to dig deeper into his brain to find out what was really driving him, making him tick. I loved his overprotective nature, even to the extremes he took things. And I especially loved the romance that MK and Aaron shared. It was lovely most of the time…

I’m anxious to see where Ms. Harper takes us on this romantic journey. Book two cannot come out soon enough. ~ Missy, 5 stars

Layne Harper’s No Pink Caddy isn’t your typical story of a girl who meets and falls in love with a rock star. Showcasing the beauty of New Orleans as the backdrop through music, food, and people, Harper has created two strong, bold characters that live life on their own terms. But once they meet, how do they navigate their newfound relationship without overshadowing one another?

Life rarely turns out the way you expect it to. For Mary Kay Landry, aka MK, now in her 30’s, life at this point should be about her husband and children. Instead of the typical white picket fence, MK finds herself in a dead end job working for her happily married ex-boyfriend at his father’s company. Contemplating dating her best guy friend (again), the only upside in her life is running her successful website, NoPinkCaddy.com.

“Is that what thirty means? If you haven’t found your significant other, you should just pair up with whomever is still available? Is this like shopping the day after Christmas? You grab what’s left on the store shelves and considered a good deal?”

As MK’s heart and mind struggle, she meets the mysterious Aaron Emerson who makes her heart race. She soon realizes they share a chemistry that has been missing in all of her previous relationships.

“There’s something in that moment we share-an awareness. And I know in that instant he is my one.”

MK soon discovers that Aaron is none other than Rock God Johnny Knite of the rock band ACE. As the attraction between MK and Aaron/Johnny grows and their chemistry becomes palpable, outside influences such as Johnny’s band ACE, family, their respective strong wills and dispositions, and Johnny’s demons from the past begin to weigh down on them. While Aaron is insecure with his newfound relationship with MK, he can then turn into the overbearing, temperamental, bossy rock star persona, Johnny. What is Aaron willing to do in order to make their relationship work?

“I think we’re a mistake. I think I’m going to screw this up, and in the end, you’re going to hate me enough that you’re going to leave me and I’m going to die a bitter old man who tasted the forbidden fruit and had it snatched away.”

With MK’s ability to relate to others through her website, she is a very independent, imaginative, vivacious woman. How much is MK willing to sacrifice of herself to live in Johnny’s world?

“I was the nobody, and he was their sun.”

Layne Harper has an uncanny way of creating bold, vivid, strong characters in her writing and No Pink Caddy does not disappoint. This is a story of choices and concessions; and it is a story about the sacrifices you make for love.
I cannot wait to see what else is in store of MK and Aaron.

REVIEWED BY JENN

I am extremely picky when choosing what books to review for the blog, and to read for pleasure. That's why it's rare to see me dislike a book, because I am so cautious. Two (of the many) pieces of criteria I have are, no rock stars and no incomplete series. Well, I was just knocked on my ass by an author I LOVE and a book I LOVED even more! Not only is Aaron a rock star, but the next book in the series isn't out yet!!

And I'm okay with it!

Because this is not one of those forgettable stories that just blend with all the others. This was unique, and engaging. It was fresh and authentic. I breathed in every single word and never wanted it to end.

The series is not complete, this is true, BUT, I was very satisfied with where and how it ended. It's not a matter of if, but when, and I can't wait for the when. That doesn't mean I won't be badgering Harper for a release date.

Let's not get crazy.

You NEED this book in your life. You need to spend your time with MK, and her infectious personality. She felt like a real friend, not just a made-up character in a story. You rooted for MK through every step of her journey. When she meets Aaron, you know it's going to be something special. Their chemistry is sizzling! He's so into her, it would be so easy for MK to blindly fall for his charms, but Aaron can be difficult. In my opinion, there were more red flags than green ones. He is one of the most flawed characters I have encountered. She did her best, but Aaron's mood swings caused a lot of strife and confusion for MK. Thankfully, MK doesn't lose herself, only her heart.

There is so much more to come from MK and Aaron. I will be anxiously awaiting their return!

Brilliant. Heartbreaking. Amazing. Just a few words to describe this latest release by Layne Harper.

I have been a fan of Layne Harper’s books for quite sometime. I will never forget the roller-coaster ride of emotions that I felt when I read her Infinity Series. So, when I heard about No Pink Caddy, I just knew I HAD to read this book.

No Pink Caddy follows the story of Aaron and MK. Aaron and MK’s story starts off as your typical romance, but quickly turns into more. MK is the kind of girl you just can’t help but fall in love with. She’s smart. She’s quirky. She stands up for herself and isn’t afraid to go after what she wants. When Aaron blew into her life, he completely turned it upside down. Aaron is about to take MK for a ride that she is never going to forget.

One of the things that I loved about Aaron was that he wasn’t perfect. He made no excuses for who he was and just tried to be a better man. However, being with Aaron isn’t easy. Not only is he a super hot rock star, but he’s also a recovering addict. He had so many highs and lows, I felt like I had whiplash just trying to keep up. So, while Aaron’s seemingly bipolar antics drove me crazy at times, I think it really helped showcase all the struggles that he has. Again, he’s not perfect. He’s going to stumble. He’s going to make mistakes. And sometimes, no matter how much it breaks our hearts, sometimes, we just have to hit rock bottom to see what’s really important and to make the necessary changes in our lives.

No Pink Caddy is well written and captivating. I loved Layne Harper’s take on a rock star romance. This story had so many ups and downs. It sucks you in from the very beginning and will be impossible to put down. From the moment you meet MK and Aaron, you have to know more about them and will find yourself desperate to read what will happen next. I found them to both be so real and raw both MK and that quality mad them so easy for me to relate to and connect with. MK and Aaron’s story while fun at times, is not an easy one.. It will pull at your heart and it does deal with some heavy subject matter. I think that the author did an amazing job conveying and making the reader understand just how real and present Aaron’s struggles were.

I think the Ace Series is off to an amazing start. MK and Aaron’s story sucked me in and played with emotions. No Pink Caddy is smart and sexy. It will leave frustrated one minute and swooning the next. And in the end, all I have left to say is, I can’t wait to see what’s in store next for MK and Aaron.

I'm on the fence about this one. Don't really know if I like it or not.

The writing style was great. The reading was effortless and the plot interesting.

I love MK. She's very sweet, full of live, lovable, strong and she knows exactly what she wants and nobody can bring her off her path. I love her idea about NoPinkCaddy and how passionate she was. I love how she's with her friends and family. I love her idea about Aaron. How she doesn't see the huge rock star, but the man behind it. I love how she isn't interested in his past, how she just needs him to be there for her now.

But Aaron is another story. I don't hate him, but I don't really like him either. After I read the book, I asked myself, what he did to impress me. What it was that made MK fall in love with him. There wasn't much.
He's this huge rock star. He has trouble with drugs and alcohol and went to rehab for a short time. No that he's out he needs something to hold on to. And that's MK for him. In rehab he realizes, that he's never ever had a relationship with a women. He just slept with them. And now he want's to change that. That's where MK comes in. He saw her blog and somehow wants to meet her. He totally staged their first meeting. He knew from moment one who she was and what he wanted her to be. MK was totally oblivious. I don't know how I should feel about that. It seems that nothing was real.
He tells her about it eventually and bears his past to her. But for MK his past isn't really that important, because she fell in love with the man now.

I just don't know why she fell for him. And I don't know why he's so fixated on her. He has stalkerish behavior, needs to know where she's at, all the time. He installs an app on her phone, so he knows exactly where she is. I would've flipped. That's really none of his business.

Then there's his addiction. I just don't know if he was the real deal or if he was under drugs all this time. I know that towards the end, he did drugs again, because he was really unstable. So I feel like I just don't know who Aaron is.
The men I read about was standoffish, immature, whiney, clingy, a little bit of a bully, aggressive and jealous. He wanted to be with MK all the time, pressured her to move in with him, to marry him. And all that just because he needed her more than anything.

Maybe we don't get to know the "real" Aaron in this book. But MK did fall in love with him nonetheless. So I'm waiting for the next book, and I'll see how things progress. But at the moment I'm just disappointed. I need more of the hero, because right now he's a douche, and I just can't see him with MK.

There are so many fantastic things about this book that I love.
First - the city. NOLA is as much a part of this story as MK and Aaron. The descriptions and pictures Layne Harper draws for us with her words are amazing. You feel like you're in the story - in the city, walking down the sidewalks, seeing the people, eating the food. Perfection!
Second - the characters. MK. I love her! She was headstrong, knew what she wanted, and wanted to work to get it. She was passionate, loyal, loving. MK is at a turning point in her life - she's out of her 20's, her friends are getting married and having babies, she wants more out of her current life.
Aaron. MK meets Aaron in her neighborhood bar. He's mysterious and gorgeous. After a small mishap in the bar, Aaron pursues MK. Here's what I love about Aaron. He's flawed! He doesn't know how to be a "normal" adult in a relationship after being a rock star for a lot of his life. Because of this, he has his ups and downs.
Third - the writing. Layne Harper is hands-down one of my favorite authors. Her writing is perfection. It pulls you in and you become completely immersed in the story. You experience each emotion, feeling, taste, visual, and smell as if you're there with them.

I liked that there was more to MK and Aaron than just a 30-something girl and a pompous rock star. The dialog between them was great - I enjoy reading a book where I can imagine or hear the characters talking and it sounds like real people.

Also, Layne Harper did something awesome. Visit http://www.nopinkcaddy.com/ and experience the site and NOLA as MK did. I LOVE this!!
Can't wait till book 2. Also, if Layne Harper is a new author for you, I MUST recommend her Infinity Series. Fantastic books.

Realistic

I love this book, it is a very realistic look at love not being enough. MK and Aaron/Johnny fall in love almost at first site and for me the Author made this believable. MK felt the sparks and since that what was missing from her life, she recognized it. Aaron/Johnny falls fast as well but may not be for the right reasons. I like that MK is willing to do what's right even if it causes heartbreak. Looking forward to the next ACE book.

I think I've just discovered a new author to stalk - I mean - love! I loved this story, MK was a feisty, smart and independent woman and I loved the witty dialogue and banter between her and Aaron.

I could never really get a grasp on the real Aaron due to his erratic behaviors (or the reason MK let them go). But by the end I understood him a little more and reasonings behind some of his actions.

I can't wait for Burnt Sugar to see how their story ends up. Thankfully I don't have to wait too long :)

Slayed. Me. I literally can't even right now.Fan-Fuckingtastic. The chemistry, the charisma, the electricity... all there.

When I first read the book, I was reading based off of Layne's Infinity series (also great!) and hadn't really kept up with NoPinkCaddy.com. It took me a few chapters to figure out what she meant by that. Sigh. Not my finest moment. But I digress.

Aaron was so complex, and broken, and yet so complete. He complemented MK perfectly. MK was witty, smart, charismatic and exuded a strength that will linger with you.

Layne, where is the sequel? I need it.

Loved. It.

Before Chapter 1 even ended, I already knew that I would not stop reading until the very last page was read. I laughed, and I cried and I got ticked off along with the characters in this book. I love how lovable MK is and how you know that she would totally be your BFF if she existed outside of the pages of this book.
It is a beautiful story, it is a relatable story, one that could happen to anyone. Layne Harper does a fantastic job of pulling you in and not letting you go until the very end.
A bit of a cliff hanger, but that is just the way it is, a good author always leaves you wanting more.
Can't wait for Book 2.

Omg! This book knocked the breath right out of me. I absolutely loved MK and Aaron's love story. The only problem know is I have an awful book hang over. Can't wait to find out how it turns out for MK and Aaron. Loved how the author took us on a visual tour of New Orleans with her descriptive story of all the places that MK loves about the city she lives in. This is a must read ❤️

BANGOR BELLE BOOK BESTIES
I received an arc copy of this book in return for nothing but an honest review.

This is the first book i have read by this author, and i am seriously kicking myself, how have i not come across this author before !!!

This story is fresh, and different.

MK (Mary Kay) is a young woman, just entering into her 30’s. She is in a job she hates, she’s single with no special “person” in her life. She’s quirky and has a successful blog, where she charts her life and her failures, from the mundane dating failures, cooking and life in general around New Orleans. Then unexpectedly she meets Aaron, and the attraction between the two is off the charts !!!

Aaron has secrets, and issues. He has another persona, he’s also Johnny Knite the infamous rock star, not long out of rehab and is at times totally unpredictable. His struggles are heart wrenching and this leads to a relationship full of fun, laughter, angst and drama.

This book is so well written you almost feel that you are there, each step of their journey brings you deeper into their lives. My heart ached for them both, as they try to find a way for things to go right, Both desperately wanting to be the better person for each other. This is a story about love, trust, hope and sheer determination. But what happens when life seems to always throw things your way to defeat you? What happens when the past issues come back. I absolutely loved this couple. Aaron was far from perfect yet he tried so hard to make everything right. Mk has her own ambitions but how will that effect her new relationship? Can she have both? This book is packed with everything, sweet, sexy, emotional, hot and captivating. I really was hooked and all i can say is I AM SO GLAD THE NEXT BOOK IS COMING SOON!!! Bring it on !!!!

Have you ever read a book and it is so well written you can picture exactly where they are- even when you’ve never been there??? That was No Pink Caddy for me. I have (yikes) never been to New Orleans, but between Layne’s descriptions of locations, as well as the food descriptions (kill me I was starving the entire time I read this book), I am ready to book my trip there now!

I loved this book and read it in one day.

MK is so relatable and like-able. She just turned 30 (as did I…okay maybe quite a few years ago but whatever, I can relate) and is reevaluating how her life is going and the decisions she has made. She is surrounded by good friends (mostly) and an interesting family (I actually wish we had gotten more of this- especially her grandmother- as it was an interesting part of her background). She is working to make money, not because she is passionate about her job, and has a side hobby of a blog site called “no pink caddy.” She’s basically just coasting. Our hero is tortured and mysterious- Aaron/Johnny and a good match to MK’s light. He has baggage for his baggage. And when they meet- well lets just say the chemistry was apparent from the start. (I legit laughed out loud in the middle of the gym at their meeting at the bar.) Anyway, I enjoyed watching their struggle and journey as a couple.

Layne has the ability to write characters it is easy to get invested in- and she does so here. I want to know what happens with MK and Aaron. I want to know more about Aaron and his band and family dynamics. I want to know more about MK and her friends. I feel for these characters and I am rooting for them, even Tripp whose actions easily make him the odd one out here. Even at its heaviest points, Layne did something fantastic to keep the book light by adding blog posts/twitter posts as headlines for her chapters. It was an interesting aspect of the story and showed us another dynamic to the heroines personality.

Yes this book is a cliffhanger (OMG- I didn’t know when I started reading it!). This is a great new series for Layne- and I am definitely looking forward to Book 2!!!

Layne Harper introduces us to a new series, No Pink Caddy. Completely different from her previous books – The Infinity Series.

We meet MK, a 30 year old who refuses to take the easy road in life. She is devastated when her college sweetheart dumps her so she starts a blog to “connect with girls like me – a bit lost.” That was seven years ago!

Her blog No Pink Caddy is really popular and has spilled over into Twitter and other social media. She loves people watching, blogging, cooking & thrift shopping.

Her best friend Bella wants her to “settle” with her childhood sweetheart, Tripp. The only problem – there is no chemistry between them….

“You haven’t been on a date in months. You’re thirty. You want to be married and have kids. What’s so wrong with Tripp? He’s a good-looking, self-made man, and more importantly, one of the richest guys ever. You could do a lot worse.”

Along comes Aaron/Johnny. Famous rock star, goofy, thoughtful, romantic, hot, and recently out of rehab. He is in New Orleans to record a new album but also to pursue MK. Aaron is a combination of hot & crazy. He reminds me a bit of Mal from Stage Dive who is always over the top & hyper!

And so it begins. MK doesn’t know that Aaron is a huge fan of No Pink Caddy. MK is funny, friendly, direct and caring. Aaron is romantic and a bit lost. We learn about his past and wow, just wow. I love the banter between MK & Aaron.

What comes next is a lot of ups and downs. You never know what will happen or where the story will take you. It is emotional and has a lot of depth. And then there is the cliff…

So now I have to wait!!! It was a crazy train that I boarded, but I don’t want to get off!

5 crazy, thrifty, romantic stars!

Oh my gosh! This book sucked me in from the first page. I really think if MK was not a character we'd be good friends. It was such a fun, real, great story. Everyone should read this book.

2.5 Stars - I can't really say whether I liked this book or not. The concept was a good one and certainly created an opportunity for a second chance romance in the future. However, I found myself skimming a little bit and rolling my eyes way too much.

Overall, I enjoyed the characters and MK's blog, No Pink Caddy. She's feisty and fun! But I was a bit weirded out by Aaron's approach. He didn't really do anything that was overly impressive in his attempts to win MK over. He was extremely clingy and reliant on her to help fix him and his addiction. He appeared stalkerish, as MK called him out on, and I was frustrated by his constant avoidance of everything. It also seemed too fast, and I felt like I was getting whiplash from all the craziness. One minute Aaron is happy and loving and then throwing temper tantrums like a toddler. Then there was the issue of their communication or lack there of. There were so many moments that I thought they would get everything out in the open, but then they would both close up. They expected openness but weren't willing to give it in return. I don't know... maybe I'm overthinking it all.

I'm still looking forward to finding out what happens to this pair. MK seemed to have a good head on her shoulders and would be the perfect partner for someone like Aaron as long as he can get his act together.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Readers Copy of this book.

Well, this book sucked up my entire day off. Now I want to hop on a flight for NOLA because I'm craving Red Beans & Rice, A Bloody Mary and some good ol' Nola jazz. I love that this book captures the heart of my favorite city and highlights all of the best things about the creative side of the food, the music, and the art.

The like that the main character isn't the typical, demure romance character. She's got spunk and drive and she seems like someone I would hang out with or follow on social media. The twitter and blog post references made the entire book feel less like a book and more like something happening to one of my favorite bloggers. Because of that, I think I'll be stalking the companion blog and twitter accounts that the author set up. I'm already impatient for book 2!

Ok so MK and Aaron - I kept hoping she would run away from him like her ass was on fire! To me, their relationship is red flags all over the place as being abusive. With the stalkerish behavior, jealousy and control issues. Not to mention his drug addiction. I gave it 3 stars because it is well written but had a hard time seeing these 2 as a happy couple.

I sat down to read this book I was excited because I love the author's previous books. I fell in love with in the first 10 pages and sat there and read the whole thing in one sitting. It's brilliant quirky and just fun.

No Pink Caddy is the first book I have read by author, Layne Harper. The first book in her ACE series, this is the story of MK and Aaron, told from the perspective of Mary kay Landry (aka MK), blogger extraordinaire.

"Just be you, because you're fucking awesome."

MK is a fun and free spirit - an all-around good Southern girl. An HR rep by day, she runs a popular blog called, “NoPinkCaddy.” Did I mention she has a killer sense of humor? When she encounters Aaron at her local hangout, her whole world is turned upside down. What happens next is a bit of a whirlwind, spread out over the course of a couple of weeks, as MK learns what it is like to be a part of Aaron’s world. Why? Because Aaron is really Johnny Knite – rock god and legend – who is just out of rehab and working on a new album.

"It began beating double-time when I kissed your lips..."

Honestly, I didn’t know how I felt about Aaron for most of this book. He comes off as a bit stalker-ish, and he acts more like a teenager than a 38 year old. He is erratic, and sometimes a little scary. However, as the story progressed, and without giving away any major spoilers, I found myself feeling for him. I can’t imagine what it must be like to be 38 years old and to have never had any real or meaningful relationship outside of immediate family members (and even those relationships do not seem too healthy at times). I took a step back, and I thought about how lonely it must be.

"I think I am going to screw this up, and in the end you're going to hate me..."

Aaron is far from being perfect – but he is human. He is vulnerable, and he makes mistakes. It is easy to judge him based on his choices and his lifestyle – but watching him through MK’s eyes, it is also easy to see a man who is afraid - of himself, his demons, and of losing his heart. The world knows Johnny Knite! But only MK sees Aaron, and the man he deserves to be.

"...the broken Peter Pan falling in love with Wendy the perfect girl..."

This book is a reminder that, sometimes, love isn't enough. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series, Burnt Sugar, and I hope that it helps me to understand Aaron - "a broken fragment of his former self" - a bit more.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This novel was read and reviewed for My timeout Book Blog by Melissa.

I picked up No Pink Caddy to read because the blurb sounded interesting. I am so happy that I did as this novel was much more than interesting. Right from the very beginning I fell in love with the character of MK. Her wit and banter with her friends and her blog made her a character that you could related to and want to be friends with. She is a strong, intelligent woman who can stand on her own without a man. MK is the odd man out off her family. Her sister is a doctor who is married and kids. While she thought that she was headed but ended up single after collage with a pity job from her ex's father. This brought her to start her blog No Pink Caddy. So with her fateful blog, a job she hates, friends that are always there and a local hole in the wall bar that she loves, she wonders if she will ever find love.

Enter the mystery man. After one night out MK finds herself object of that mystery mans eye. Aaron Emerson (aka Johnny Knite) comes in and sweeps MK off her feet. But he isn't just some man, no he is the lead singer of ACE. This brings in so many different dynamics to there relationship. Aaron has a ton of his own demons and issues that he brings with him that will turn MK's life upside down. He falls for her quickly and hard. But Aaron is impulsive, childish and overly protective. It makes him a character that you really want to find out more about. You want to know why he is the way he is and just what he has gone though in his life.

I devoured this novel and could not wait to read more. You are left with two hear broken characters and a little broken your self. I found that I felt what MK was going though, throughout the whole novel. I got inside her and followed along with her. There were so many twists and turns that I had no idea what was coming next. I love when a novel is unpredictable. Looking forward to see where her life is headed in the next novel.

#NoPinkCaddy #5StarRead #YouWontBeSorry
Thank God for Kindle Unlimited or I would have missed out on finding this Rock-N-Roll, NOLA, thrift store shopping, master piece! Layne Harper is a new author to me and I am not disappointed! From the very beginning I knew I was reading something different, something special in this literary world where everything is cookie cutter basic. Then I'm hit with the quote alis volat propriis- she flies with her own wings. And for a moment everything stood still for me. And that my friends is very rare! When something from the Author just resonates with you, it clicks, it's magic! Ms. Harper has created a beautiful world which we can get lost in from the characters, to the description of the city. Then she does one even better and gives you http://www.nopinkcaddy.com to tie it all in.
Now I'm not one for spoilers and such but let me say MK and Aaron are great! Their chemistry is felt through your tablet. Yeah I wanted to knock their heads together a few times but with any great couple that's to be excepted. The banter and dialog through out this story had me smiling and laughing along.
There is drug addiction dealt with in this book but it is tastefully handle. This is a cliffhanger and normally I would throw my tablet and cuss a blue streak but I find myself happily waiting for book 2- Burnt Sugar to come out. So get those one clicking fingers busy and one click this one. You wont be sorry!
