AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! I HAVE NEVER READ A BOOK WITH SUCH A HUGE PLOT TWIST OML!!! AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! MY HEART!!! MY FANGIRL HEART IS DYING!!!!
OH MY GOD!!!! Of all unexpected endings to a book series, this one was the most unexpected for me! One of the 7 DARE winners, a victim of all the deadly attacks, famous for his good deeds and accomplishes was the Signmaker himself, a murderer of over 4,000, and yet he was only 16! I had noticed Zander was always a little edgy when it came to decoding the signs (that he made!!!) with his friends. I think him dying wasn't right though, i think he should have just gone to jail, but all well I guess its still an amazing ending to a nail biting series. :) I definitely recommend this book to anyone and everyone!

Battlefront was quite the plot twist: the Signmaker is one of the main characters, Zander. When you reread the series with him as the Signmaker, you will pick up the little things and make you think - "I was so stupid! How could I not see that he was the Signmaker!" I suspected ever since Killswitch. I was also shocked when Zander seemed to refuse to take the blood test - I mean, people have tried to shoot him and he's scared of needles? JJ ends up saving the day, like twice. I don't really like any of the people except for Mila, but JJ I think is the least dumbest. I was sad that there wasn't any Zasmin (Zander x Yasmin), but at least Zander didn't want to kill her. There was also no Andabel and JJila, so I was sad. But it was a pretty good story and extremely technique. My friend and I actually suspected Zander, but we thought we were being silly because we hate him. I mean he is SUCH a JERK. I think the Seven Signs series is going to end there; I mean, I wish there is going to be more, but I kind of don't because it might ruin it. Two examples is Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and Resurrection (Skulduggery Pleasant). They were not really THAT BAD, but they just weren't as...good. As awesome. So, I hope Michael Adams writes a similar series, but not continue this series.

I did not expect that conclusion at all, what a journey and what a way to flip the story all on it's head. Enjoyed this series, it's a light read but it also draws you in and wanting to keep going from one book to another
And I've finished this book, and by extension the series. And I've gotta be honest, I...actually, I feel that I wasted my time.
Others have revealed in their reviews who the Signmaker is, so I won't get into that. Maybe if I reread the series with this knowledge in mind things would be different, but I'm not inclined to. But whatever hopes I might have had in this book, similar to others, whatever ideas it presents are subsumed in the slop of near-constant action scenes and barebones characterization.
The thing about Battlefront is that it clearly wants to say something about technology, but it can't (or won't) actually engage with the topic. The titular "Battlefront" is that naval forces have massed off Antarctica due to tensions over its resources (the geopolitics of this aren't really examined or explained), and the actions of the six previous books have apparently heightened them. The destruction of a Chinese nuclear submarine in the previous book could have been used as a catalyst for this, but it's barely mentioned. Rather, the events of all the previous books have heightened tensions when in reality, I'd have thought it would have led to a defusing of them, or at least a colling off period.
So, okay then, worldbuilding is sparse, but worldbuilding in this series has always been sparse, as has characterization. What about theme? Well, again, the book tries to cap off with the whole "we need to rely less on technology, it's neither good nor evil, the power is in our hands," but none of these ideas are really engaged with. There's countless works of fiction that deal with these concepts, Battlefront has nothing to say about the topic except "the power is yours," to borrow a quote, and little else. While a series doesn't require a theme to be successful, that it wants to explore this idea yet fails makes it sink all the harder.
So, no, I can't recommend this book, nor this series. If you're a kid (or have a kid), maybe the kid will be entertained by the shooty shooty bang bang, but apart from that, nothing. There's plenty of children's/YA stories that have more substance than this slop.
With more action than you can poke a stick at, less character development than you can imagine, and a ridiculous plot that defies all logic, this action aplenty and hollow series comes to an end. Like a stick of fairy floss (or cotton candy if you are from other places) this is devoid of any real substance and has been on the whole a very ordinary series, but this is now the end.
OMG THAT WAS ACTUALLY THE MOST UNEXPECTED THING THAT HAS HAPPENED TO ME!!!!!!! As much as it made my heart hurt, it was great. The ending was really different, which is definitely a good thing! This is one of the best books I've ever read. DEFINITELY WORTH READING, YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!!!!!!!!
