A dramatic confrontation between the many exotic animal inhabitants of a rain forest and man and his machines is depicted through a simple text and vivid boldly colored illustrations capturing the lush beauty of a primeval rain forest
Rain Forest, by Helen Cowcher, describes different animals that live in the rain forest. It is a perfect area for certain species to live, and some live on the ground, and some live in the canopies. But one day their home is disrupted. Machines come and start cutting down the trees. As the trees get cut down, a river bursts from its banks and floods the forest, washing away the machines. The animals climb high in the trees and are safe as the waters rage below them.
I give this book 3/5 stars. The illustrations were very pretty, and I loved all the use of green. I also liked the animals that were in the book, and how the author depicted them. It is very educational for children, because this story allows them to see into how much humans affect the habitats of animals. It was sort of an abrupt ending though, and I think the author could have ended the story more smoothly.
Rainforest looks at the animals which live in the rainforest and how they all live in harmony, however, this peace is disturbed when men come and cut down their trees and cause destruction to their home. The ending of the book is very powerful as it says the animals 'wondered how long the tall trees would be there to guard them'. With this story, children could look into the deforestation of the importance of trying to save our rainforests.
A nice addition to my classroom library. It’s a simple (lower-level) book, but the illustrations are eye-catching! It’s an educational book and I like the human involvement from the animals POV.
I love the abrupt end with no solution. Really great sense of dissonance and opens the book up for conversation instead of trying to tie everything up nicely.
The illustration is my favorite part of this book. It gives the reader the feeling of being in the rain forest. I think this is a great addition to a classroom because it tells a story, but also has a factual basis. This book discusses the different types of creatures that live in the rain forest, what they eat, and their behavior. I think it is a great way to learn about different plants, animals, and climates.
Their are these animals in the forest who live happily and peaceful all their lives. One day the birds in the sky saw something that was desturbing the trees in the forest. The birds said something to the howell monkey, and the monkey made a annocement where you could here it miles away. Soon after he made the annocement a couple of trees came falling down. When the dust cooled off, you could see humans walking in a group. The animals all went to higher grounds and they wondered how long the trees where going to be their to protect them.
This is a great book to introduce the different animals in the rainforest. It is even a better book for predicting. The books talks about how the animals are unsettled in the rain forest. This is a great time to talk with the children about what they think might be happening. I had my students draw a picture of what they think is happening before I read the machines were tearing down the rain forest.
i didnt like this bok it was very boring. It just told about what people are doing to the rain forest. It showed what the animals would do if they didnt have any place to live. It also said what animasls were the threat to other animals in the rain forest.
This is a colorful book about animals of the rainforest, along with an ecological message about preserving their home. Our girls loved the illustrations in this book.
This is good for a K-1 read aloud however it has some tough vocabulary words for the K-1 level. However, you could explain the meaning of those words as you read so they understand them.
