SUMMER PRESCOTT BOOKS is thrilled to present: Bonbons and Betrayal - Book 3 in The Chocolate Cafe Series
A gifted chocolatier and life-long free spirit, Brie has never met her match when it comes to relationships. But the enigmatic Paul, who is on the verge of becoming the next software billionaire, has certainly captured her interest, and his sordid past is about to catch up to him…in the worst possible way. When Sabrina is dragged down with him, it’s up to the irrepressibly curious Catharine “Mac” Mackenzie and her brilliant detective boyfriend, Louis, to unwrap the not-so-sweet truth about a man who stopped at nothing to steal his moment in the spotlight. Will what they uncover prove to be more than they bargained for? Suspenseful, compelling and coated in a delectable veil of melt in your mouth chocolate, Bonbons and Betrayal will have you on the edge of your seat!
Brie has a new man in her life. She is infatuated with him. Brie isn’t the only one who has been completely enthralled with Paul. His past is unknown to Brie, but it is about to come rushing into her life in a terrifying way. Brie turns to Mac and Louis for support to deal with what becomes and painful and dangerous situation. Book three in the Chocolate Café series is terrific. I enjoy the relationship between the characters. They are well-developed and are very realistic. The plot moved at a steady pace and keeps the reader actively engaged in the story. I hope book four continues to go in this direction.
**I received this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review**
I really hate to say this, but something about this book just didn't sit right with me. I really didn't like who the murderer was, and how they were portrayed. There were also a few glaring safety issues in the climax that I just could not handle. But, even with those issues, I will keep reading this series in hopes that it goes back to the series that I fell in love with.
in book 3 in this series, Brie hooks up with the wrong man. No one can tell her to just walk away from this fellow his is horribly disliked by everyone in town. When another murder happens, she is the main suspect so naturally Mac and Louis need to clear her name and solve the crime
This is a fantastic new series and this book is just as enjoyable as the first two. Mac and Brie are back with Louis and these characters are wonderful. The are funny and smart, and of course very entertaining as they always get wrapped up in a new murder. Valley Sams' descriptions of the food and scenery are so vivid, I can smell chocolate and feel the sea spray on my face. I would love to live in this town, it sounds beautiful and who doesn't like the beach? Add in a chocolate cafe and wine, I am in heaven. Brie is the chocolate genius, Mac is a natural detective that cannot do what her real detective asks her to do, and poor Louis loves her despite of her affinity for trouble. There are a few crazy characters in this book that provide the comedy too. Mac and Louis have a budding romance going on but this book starts out with Sabrina (Brie) making some amazing chocolate creation for her new man who is receiving a distinguished award. Only, while in the city with Brie, Mac and Louis both are enlightened to his true smarly and sleazy character which Mac agonizes over telling Brie when is discovered as the latest murder victim. Mac and Louis are then on the case and interact three really kooky characters before things really get out of hand and Mac is in the middle of another crazy adventure. This book is wonderful, full of excitement and craziness with sweet chocolate.
Mac and Detective Louis are developing a relationship even with Mac's worries about her past relationships. Brie is totally entwined with Paul, a software developer who is making history and billions with a new app. While attending a party in Paul's honor in New York, Mac and Louis start learning about his dark rise to fame and fortune. Later that evening, Mac and Brie find Paul's murdered body slumped over his desk. As all the sordid details of Paul's use of people and the theft of their intellectual ideas and property emerges, the suspect list grows longer. With Louis working with the New York police, Mac is able to investigate. When the murderer follows them home to Mackenzie Bay, Mac and Louis end up in a confrontation that will leave you glued to your chair, with your mouth hanging open. This is the edgiest of the three books in the series and is very much a psychological thriller/cozy mystery. The author's character development has hit full blown. The descriptive narrative sucks you in and spits you out at the end. It leaves you limp and at the same time, wanting more. I hope to see more in this series but if not, this third book pulls it all together and gives us a fantastic trilogy of murder, mayhem and the dark side of the human souls. This is not your typical cozy!
I received this book from the publisher. This is my honest opinion and fair review.
What can I say about book 3 in the Chocolate Cafe Series?!?!?!?! I LOVED IT!!!! I love how Valley Sams is not afraid to push the limits when it comes to cozy mysteries. What I found so messed up in the poor victim. I can't even say poor victim, he just sucked. In book 3 Brie started seeing someone named Paul Creed and he did not care who he walked all over to get to where he wanted to go. But when Brie and Mac find him dead, it is up to Louis to try and help find the killer. I mean this guy Paul was a real winner (not) and I am so glad that his killer was brought to justice. What I did like about this book is the relationship developing between Mac and Louis and she knows what to do to push his buttons.
A few things that I missed in this book was Brie's friend from book 2 was not mentioned, even though she lives in town, and we did not really see much of Mac's new k9 friend. I did see some reading mistakes but not enough to make me lower the rating of this book. I can not wait to see what happens in book 4. This book really did draw you in until the very end and when you meet one of the suspects, it really does hurt your heart to see what happened to him/her. Great Job Valley!!!
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Brie is caught up in a relationship with a sociopath and Mac and Louis want to tell her the truth about him. Hesitating a bit too long allows a killer to get his revenge and Brie to find his lifeless body. Mac has to rescue Louis from the killer and solve the case.
I was disappointed that there was very little of the story that focused on the chocolate shop or chocolate making in general. Despite that a very satisfying read.
Bonbons and Betrayal book three in The Chocolate Cafe Series by Vally Sams will definitely have you on the edge of your seat. It is filled with nonstop adventure, mystery, murder, and even romance. Who would have thought that Sabrina would be caught up in a love triangle??? Didn't see that one coming. Now she is in the middle of a murder too! She will have to rely on her best friend Mac and her handsome detective boyfriend Louis to help her solve this crazy mess. Looking forward to book four.
I really like the way things are going between Mac and Louis. I hope Brie finds someone special soon. Can't wait to see what the future holds.
Disclosure: I received this book free of charge from the publisher. This review is my honest opinion, and is in no way influenced by the author or publisher.
The third installment has a bit more drama and darkness surrounding it. Not sure if it was the subject matter or the fact that the author was writing at a higher level than before.
I get hooked each time, I enjoy the over all story flow...still wish for a bit more padding to make we feel fulfilled after reading.
This is another terrific book in The Chocolate Cafe series. I enjoy these characters and writing style of this author. I look forward to reading more in this series.
I recieved a copy of this manuscript from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
I was gifted this book in return for my honest review. This is a very good series, the main characters are awesome. I love how they always have each other's back no matter what. If you haven't read this it's time to start, believe me you will not regret it.
I thought this book was not as good as the last one. I missed the chocolates. It was not bad but not what I expected after the first two. It was a little confusing in the beginning. I liked the ending. I am sure the next one will be good.
