This was not nearly as good as her 1st cookbook (which I loved). A lot of the recipes in this book were non-recipes to me. Who needs a recipe for avocado toast or yet another variation of her overnight oats recipes? Huge disappointment.
This book just rubbed me the wrong way. I don't know if it's because the book seemed to be all about Ms Liddon and her perfect little life--Just how many pictures of oneself does one need in a book about COOKING?!?--or if it's because these recipes just seemed so pedestrian, but I am glad I checked this out of the library first. This book will NOT be making an appearance on my bookshelf anytime soon.
Necessity for any vegan, vegetarian, or health conscious home chef
Wonderful book featuring not only staples, but new and exciting additions to any vegan cooking arsenal. Highly recommended. Well laid out and easy to navigate as well. Pantry section means you can stock up on less common ingredients before they appear in a recipe, which is always helpful.
More like a cookbook from someone who has lots of money and wants people to think they live healthy despite the fact that they eat snickers and cheez whiz straight fron the can.
The recipes appear to be very healthy and nutritionally balanced. To my taste the ones I tried were a bit on the bland side. In fairness to the author, I don't usually eat vegan meals and my tastes tend to run on the spicy side. A couple of them were rather intriguing - I enjoyed the suggestion of coupling a mango chutney with a lentil, chickpea and rice dish and I wouldn't have considered combining sweet potato, avocado and beans. However, I found it very hard to make myself eat leftovers - I wanted something tastier. One dish - a golden lentil stew I found to be inedible. Interestingly enough, all the comments on Liddon blog for the recipe were very favorable. I hadn't looked at Liddon's blog before, (I picked this book up from the library on impulse), but usually I find that I will find some similar comments to my own opinions on recipes, occasionally with good suggestions on how to make something more pleasing to the palette.
I love this cookbook. The recipes are tasteful and rich. The ingredients are readily available. The directions are easy to follow. And best of the food really is Simply Satisfying and quick! Yum.
Too many smoothies, overnight oats, and puddings, not enough main meals, and most of these seemed to need some made seasoning from later on in the book. Just glad I got this from the library so didn’t waste any money.
Stuck in a plant based food rut? This book is a great resource for lots of new, easy recipes to free you from the same old food that you eat all the time.
