Daddy's Baby

An apocalyptic Junior year....
Raging hormones turn asthmatic Damon Hamilton from nerd to heartthrob - literally overnight. Young ladies splatter against him like bugs on a windshield. For Damon, sudden popularity does not equal smooth sailing. He brutally and publically dismisses possessive, beautiful senior, Sasha Anderson, who has initiated him into the world of sex. Gang members attack him in jealous rage. And Damon has had enough.

Senior year, Time for a change...
At a new school, Damon gets his head back in the books, falls in love - true love - and turns his attention to one thing, getting into college and as far away from Lansing, Michigan as possible. Damon hasn’t bargained on Sasha detonating a bomb in his life. There is nothing more ferocious than a girl who has been rejected in love, except one who’s been rejected in love and left with a baby on board. What’s a dude to do? Step up.

Landis Lain does a wonderful job with Daddy's Baby. She’s crafted a well-written story about a young man who goes through the fire. Flawed Protagonist, Damon Hamilton is easy to root for, feel for, and follow as the pages seem to turn themselves. Lain is good at placing just the right amount of description (beautiful similes and metaphors included) where it’s needed, and I often felt like I was watching a movie. The novel starts with a bang placing the reading and Damon in precarious spot then never lets up. Great characters, great story, great writing. Don’t start this book if you have plans ‘cause you’ll end up late. Highly recommended.

Damon is the protagonist and he has one big complication in his otherwise promising life: a baby. When Damon's chick on the side gets pregnant, Damon steps up and falls in love . . . With his son. It is great to see an African-American teen meet his consequences of having sex head first. I like how real this protagonist is. Every detail rings true for young high school seniors including running in gangs and reactions of siblings and parents, right down to the moments when no one seems to know what to say. I loved that the baby is front and center; we never forget that the problem is the baby and how complicated that can be.

I honestly felt as if Damon had a good heart with the right intentions but for some reason, he kept getting caught in some type of trouble. I felt so bad for Sasha though. She just needed love and support to become a better woman and a successful person. Brielle, on the other hand, was smart and talented so I was surprised at her decision in the end but I guess she followed her heart. This book offered a suspenseful reflection into the lives of the younger generation as they tried to navigate through life on their path to adulthood. Overall, an interesting read!

A great young adult story that took me back to 19 years old and pregnant. I could relate to Damon and Sasha's story on many levels. When you're that young and expecting a child, life can be so complicated and uncertain. I think Daddy's Baby will resonate with many young adults and open up much needed dialogue with our youth.

Loved it

This book was awesome. Not like other books where I just fly through them and barely remember things. I took my time to get to know the characters. Brielle is kind of annoying to me but I may be biased because I just love Damon. The story is very engaging and very well written. If you are looking for a good read look no further.

As a young student living not too far from the stories setting, its weird on how close this book relates to the people i know. this isnt your typical life lesson story, its the epitome of the situation in which young teens go through ( more often then you think !). There is no archetype in this story, but an evolving sense of personality. this book captures what few years teenagers have from a child to an "Adult" and makes it relatible. pls read especial if your like me a teen still trying to figure out who i am in life.

A story we rarely hear. A teen father doing whatever he needs to do to take care of his child. The relationship drama and youthful mistakes spoke to me. I wanted Damon to succeed and was so frustrated and angry with Sasha. It was like so many stories I’ve heard, but from the opposing view. I’ve always heard the “rejected girl” and “deadbeat daddy” point of view. This book really made me take a second look and reevaluate my snap judgements. I think this is an important book in helping change a narrative that isn’t always correct.
