Charity is planning for a wedding that she is being forced into. She longs for real love and adventure, but she must do what her parents and society expects of her. But while doing her duty, she is surprised to learn that her bank accounts have been drained. Charity requests permission to travel to the tropical island of Elysium to visit her best friend while the investigation into her lost finances takes place. What was to be a simple last vacation as a single woman, quickly becomes the type of adventure in lust and love that she’s yearned for.
She is introduced to a dangerously handsome and flirtatious accountant, Lucas, who uses his position within the Consortium to conduct his own investigation of Charity’s accounts... all while attempting to win Charity’s affection.
As the investigation deepens, Charity cannot resist Lucas’s charm and she begins developing a strong desire for him—a desire she has only read about in the novels she secretly enjoys and is forbidden by her family. Charity struggles to resist while Lucas shows her a world wholly different from hers; a world of passion and intrigue. A world where people are encouraged to follow their hearts and desires and not society’s expectations.

I picked this up on a whim, and it was pretty good. Well written, very well edited, it was my first venture into steam anything. Overall a fun tale, but much, much racier than I generally like. I wouldn't describe it as erotica (not quite), but it does have a strong sensual sub plot. If you like that kind of stuff, you'll like this.

This is the first erotica and steampunk-themed book I've read, and I have to say, I was impressed. It wasn't just about sex and all the kinky things that happen behind closed doors or even public spaces, like theaters in this book's case. There was plenty of that and it was done well, but there was also a plot and an effort to build an interesting and believable world with fascinating characters.

I liked the growth of Charity throughout the book. Without spoiling it, she learns a lot about herself and where she comes from. It changes her, obviously, but it's more of an evolution than a complete 180, which I found to be a more realistic approach.

Other pluses include action and intrigue! There really is a little of something for everyone within these pages.

This is a great start to which is currently a trilogy. The book easily stands alone, but it also provides a path forward to follow the characters and see where they go from here.

It started slow, but give it a chance. It picked up by the end of the second chapter. I found it to be a fun romp that fulfilled all my expectations by the end of the book.
