Marshals #3

Tied Up in Knots

Rate this book
Miro Jones is living the life: he’s got his exciting, fulfilling job as a US deputy marshal, his gorgeous Greystone in suburban Chicago, his beloved adopted family, and most importantly, the man who captured his heart, Ian Doyle. Problem is, Ian isn’t just his partner at work—Ian’s a soldier through and through. That commitment takes him away from Miro, unexpectedly and often, and it’s casting a shadow over what could be everything Miro could ever dream of.

Work isn’t the same without Ian. Home isn’t the same, either, and Miro’s having to face his fears alone… how to keep it together at the office, how to survive looming threats from the past, and worst of all, how to keep living without Ian’s rock-solid presence at his side. His life is tied up in knots, but what if unknotting them requires something more permanent? What would that mean for him and Ian? Miro’s stuck between two bad choices, and sometimes the only way to get out of the knot is to hold tight to your lifeline and pull.

This is a spoiler free review.

Mary Calmes has done it again! She managed to outdo herself with the third book the Marshals series. Miro and Ian and back, and better than ever!

The sex is ridiculously hot, the passion is off-the-charts and the love between these two men gets stronger and stronger with every turn of the page.

If you loved, or even liked the first two books in the Marshals series, you own it to yourself to read this latest installment. You will be thrilled with Miro and Ian's new, frightening adventures and downright delighted with the sequel-worthy surprises Ms. Calmes throws at us. I cannot recommended this book highly enough.

This chapter officially solidifies Miro and Ian as one of my favorite M/M romance couples, right along with Logan and Tate, Matt and Kira and Noah and Lucas.

Try not to read spoilery reviews. You will enjoy this book so much more being surprised with all the new goodies.

P.S.: According to Ms. Calmes there WILL be another book in the Marshals series, so we haven't seen the last of Miro and Ian!!

another re-read

Just like the previous two books in this series, this one gets 5 "well deserved" stars from me !!

I loved every single page and I can't wait for the next book to get here...I hope it will be soon.

Miro and Ian are one of my all-time favorite couples, next to Jory and Kage, Sloane and Dex and of course Ty and Zane.

I don't want to spoiler anything, so I'm gonna lay off the storyline and just tell you how and what this book made me feel.....which was EVERYTHING !!

It was fun, cute, angsty, steamy, sad and romantic. It had everything I like in a good book. I, of course, loved the MC's, but the side-characters were awesome as well.

I would recommend everyone to read this series. You do have to start with book 1 though because these books can not be read as stand alones. Do it...you won't be sorry ;)

Even though there are 3 books in this series, Mary never leaves us hanging with a cliffy, which I very much appreciate, this will make the wait for the next book a little bit easier.....but just a tiny bit ;)

First off, let me say I have a deep fondness for Mary. A very deep personal attachment that spills out into the real world in so many ways.

Most of those ways are coffee and food but it is a special love.

That being said, let’s talk Miro and Ian.

More specifically, Miro and Ian in this book.

I think what I love the most about this series as a whole is the exploration of their relationship along with the larger story arc of what the hell is going on with Miro’s life. These are key components to building a successful series and not one that’s easily mastered.

Mary Calmes definitely has her hands firmly on this larger story arc and doles out the threads of its development in agonizingly slow but glorious ways. In this book, the third of the Marshal series, Miro’s largest obstacle is himself. I can’t delve too deep into this because well, spoilers.

Yes, there are a ton of cameos in this book but they’re necessary. I feel it’s key at this point in the series for Miro to ground himself in the known and familiar. Ian is of course the touchstone in his life but we’re reminded there are others, more… I could be a geek and say they’re like Stargate symbols Miro needs to lock onto to take him to where he needs to go to next but… okay, that’s not far from the truth.

There are a few left turns in this rollercoaster of a ride and I’d advise you to strap yourself in tightly because you’re going to be ass-over-teakettle upside in a few places but it is all worth it.

Nothing like the wind in your face, the bullets flying and Mary’s two Marshals going toe-to-toe with whatever the world throws their way.

Btw: Mary is not the boss of me. She informed me I could simply leave whatever stars I wanted…if I wanted and walked away.

And we all KNOW one does not simply walk away from Miro and Ian.

p.s. Did I mention this is an awesome, kick-ass book? 'Cause it is.

THIS. This is what perfection is. God! The cameos, the action, the sex, the romance, the suspense...it was all on point. So many things that happen in this story are awesome and Mary Calmes just delivered on every promise of greatness made. This series just keeps getting better!

So what do you need to know? The story is once again told entirely from Miro's POV. There are cameos aplenty...some of which will probably shock you (in the best way), a ton of suspense, some humor, and even some *gasp* worthy moments.

I really won't give anything away in this review (nope, not even a little), but I'd bet I said, "Holy shit!" more times in this book than I did when reading Fit To Be Tied, which I thought would be impossible. I've compared this series to a roller coaster ride before and I have to admit this installment is the sweetest ride yet.

Here are some of my feelings while reading:

shocked

This is too good

go on

wow

smile cry

whoa

that is genius

that excalated quickly

sam crying

mind blown

thank god

process what just happened

Wow Bravo

two enthusiac thumbs up

This story grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go. Tied Up In Knots is an absolute gem in this series, polished to a brilliant, glittering shine and contains just enough setup to know the continuation of the series will be just as badass and kickass as the first three books.

I can hardly wait for the next story or for Tied Up In Knots to be released on audio!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

The thing that I liked about this series is that it reminded me of a fun buddy-cop thing with the added bonus of hot boys kissing. The mystery and cop stuff kept my attention and was fast-paced, and the boy on boy action satisfied my pervy sensibilities.

The first book was all about the cop stuff while a romance was building. The angst was minor. Really fun.

The second one was focused a little more on this super-creepy serial killer wanting to hurt one of our guys. The angst-o-meter climbed a lot from the first book and relationship talks happened. Not quite as fun.

This third one decided to just go all in and break my angst-o-meter, along with throwing every single person that either of our heroes had met in their lives and their angst in there, and why not let the serial killer escape from prison - AGAIN?!? - because that happens all the time.

I wasn't being sarcastic. It does happen all the time.

And, you know how in my first review I mentioned that you need to give a little bit of fiction-leeway to the heroes ability to heal quickly from gunshots and do things that are maybe not exactly humanly possible? Well, this one decides that since you have bought everything so far, they might as well have things happen that only go on in fever dreams.

Like, every murderer showing up at once?

During the one time that one person was alone for one minute?
I mean, sure, it's nice if all of the bad guys can coordinate their schedules to meet-up and kill the good guy together, but let's face it - it's not very realistic. I mean, come on. Try and get a group of people to see a movie together and see how easy it is to show up at the same time. If you have 6 people scheduled to go, I can guarantee that at least 2 will flake, 2 will show up late - but at different late times, one person will be early and wait an hour for everyone to show up, and at least one will go to the wrong theater and be constantly texting the early person to try and figure out where everyone is. It's like herding cats. So, you expect me to believe that a bunch of guys who want to murder the same person just so happen to show up in a 3 minute window of opportunity?

But, in spite of that stuff, I still enjoyed the book for the most part. In all of the rambling mess of emotions and too-muchness, there were some funny quips and situations, and a few other good moments. Since there is only one left, I will read it. Then, I'm ready to move on. Maybe some shifter porn... I might be feeling that.

Bunny-shifter menage porn? Okay. I can see me reading that.

I liked Miro and Ian together. I wish we had gotten more Ian in this book, more badass moments with him, and just more of him in general. He was missed deeply as he's actually very little in this book. That being said, I love seeing him jealous. I want more of that, and I want more of Miro being jealous. Overall, there are many things that bothers me in this least likable book in the series - like - but it's still enjoyable enough.

First time I read this, it was kinda a bust. But now... I didn't mind it. This is a good thing. I mean, the problems I had with the book is still there, it's just no longer on such a high level that it destroyed the book. So it was a better read this time around, though far from good. Overall, I'm kinda looking forward to finishing this series.

First read review:
Hmmm... The ending was left so open, open for more, yet it could still be a ending. Luckily, Mary Calmes has said that she has planned for four books for Deputy US Marshals Miroslav ‘Miro’ ‘M’ Jones< (32? 33?) and (ex-Special Forces soldier, the Green Beret (also a Ranger)), Ian ‘E’ Doyle's (37? 38?), so we can only wait. The story of the couple continues with their frustrating relationship. Ian get's deployed, yet again (twice, actually, I think) and Miro is close to the edge; edge of not being able to take it for much longer. Their relationship gets strained; loosing a bit of themselves, closing off. And on top of that, killers are after them both. Overall, the story was the least best in the series; Ian wasn't much in it, and the story felt like a deja vu from the previous book. I was bored. I want closure though, so I'll be waiting for the next book.

ALL THE STARS!

Reading a book by Mary Calmes is like being the passenger in a car being driven by Mario Andretti. The only thing you can do is hold on, enjoy the ride and hope you don’t end up in traction by the end.

But, man! What a ride it is!

It’s been a year since all the shit in book two went down and Miro is on loan to the DEA in San Francisco while Ian is on deployment. So, of course Miro is up to his eyeballs in the shit again. The man just can’t seem to keep himself out of trouble. I’m going to pause here for a minute because that beginning… whoa! At 1% I knew this was going to be a five star read. Just 1%! That was the beginning to end all beginnings. It was so unexpected and just fabulous. I may or may not have done a little happy dance. There’s a reason why Mary Calmes is one of my most favorite authors and beginnings like that just reinforce that reason.

We get into the heart of the story once Miro arrives back home in, you guessed it, Chicago. Ian’s on his way home from his mission and Miro’s about to pee himself from excitement.

And so begin the shenanigans.

Can I just say how much I loved reading this book? It was nonstop action the whole way through; jumping from one crisis to the next. My ADD brain ate it all up like it was a steak and lobster dinner. And, to make it even more exciting, mixed in amongst all the action was quite a bit of feels. It seems that the honeymoon phase is officially over with Ian and Miro so now they have to learn how to actually be together without killing one another. Now, that’s not to say there was no passion because the passion was there in spades. Just about burned up my screen with all the heat. The Fuck Truck was officially driven to Pound Town, my friends. Repeatedly. But a rough and tumble fuck session does not a relationship make. There was quite a bit of relationship development in this installment too and I loved that we got to go through it with them.

And Mary (who I not-so-secretly call my crack dealer) couldn’t write a book without the cray-cray. And let me tell you, there’s some seriously fucked up craziness in this book. Creeped me right the fuck out! You thought Landry was nuts in Mine? He ain’t got nothin’ on the psychopath in this book. I was scared that Miro wasn’t going to get out of the shitstorm this time. Mary’s been known to go dark so I read a lot of this with my heart in my throat and at one point I had to put my phone down and take a few breaths before I could screw up enough courage to read on.

I was thinking about going more in depth with a few of my favorite moments from this book but I don’t think I could say anything without spoiling the book. I will say, though, that the cameos were flippin’ fantastic. Every time there was a cameo I squeaked a bit and drummed my feet on the floor in excitement.

Honestly, if Mary Calmes stopped writing I think I would die. Or at least cry bucketfuls of tears. There would be some serious sobbing and most likely snot would be involved too. This author is my crack and I need my fix, dammit! I don’t know what I would do without her addicting words. To paraphrase my first love, the magnificent uber-alpha Logan Church, I can’t live without her.

She’s like cheese.

Original review.

While this is another fabulous crazy OTT book I hated that Miro and Ian again spent so much of it apart.

I’ve said before this works better for me when they’ve together and so I struggled with huge chunks of this.

That said the rest is more of what we’ve come to love and I do love these guys. And it’s funny and I do love humour in my books.

It’s straight onto the next book Together Tied while I wait for Twisted and Tied to be released.

~4.5 stars!~

There are few words I can use to describe the ride that this book was. I don't want to spoil it for anyone, so I'll be as vague as possible.

This was an awesome addition to the series! Fans of Ian and Miro will in NO WAY be disappointed. You will likely fangirl or fanboy all over this story.

As far as plotlines, it very much stays in line with what you've come to expect from this series. It's scatterbrained and OTT and just fun as all hell. The side characters' interactions with Miro and Ian are priceless! I love everything about the other Marshals, especially Sam Kage.

My personal favorite, and this is alluded to in the blurb, is the relationship angst. When Mary brings internal angst to a couple, instead of just external angst, she nails it! This was delicious heartbreak with a great non-cliffie ending for our boys that I ate up with a spoon.

The cameos!! Calmes brought out the big guns with little Easter egg cameos or conversations about previous characters - it was all kinds of awesome!

I can't share anything else without spoiling anything, but just know that this is a phenomenal addition to the series! Recommended!

Hot Damn! That was awesome!

Miro and Ian are seriously one of my favorite couples of all time. Love them.

I can count on probably one hand the number of "established" couples I am willing to read about, and Miro and Ian are one of them.

I really wish I had gone back and read book 1 and 2 again before starting this one. It took me a minute to get back in to the groove. To remember who is who and what is what.

This one was super fast paced. Really exciting the last 15-20%.

It had some angst, but it was the good relationship angst. Not the un-necessary drama kind of angst. It was angst done right.

Seriously love these two and I am SOOOOOOO glad we get at least one more book.

And I sooooo saw

Reread September 2022

I still wish they spent more time together because when they are together 🔥🔥

Reread November 2019

I wasn't quite as annoyed this time with them being separated, but I still wish they spent more time together because I love them when they are together.

Originally read December 2017

This one was probably my least favorite so far. Honestly, I'm tired of Miro and Ian being separated. I hope that in future installments, they will spend the majority of the book together.

I didn't see the crazy person coming so I was a bit shocked there. And seriously???? Craig Hartley escapes AGAIN??? I really hope the feds and all aren't that incompetent in real life. Poor Miro. He needs his nightmare gone for good.

These two continue to be a favorite couple of mine, I just wish they were actually a couple more. I know I will read more. There's several interesting side characters that could have great stories.

5 Fabulous Stars!!

Am I biased when it comes to these two? Hell yes.

Fans won’t be disappointed with this new installment, as it’s full of action, drama and ridiculous scenarios only these two could find themselves in. Like in any good series, the supporting cast over time has definitely lent to the complexity, fun factor, and overall enjoyment.

What always remains though, is how much Miro and Ian love each other. They might not agree on everything, they might not like the same things, but when it comes down to it, their devotion shines through.

So what stands out for me this go around is just how passionate they are, how deeply and acutely felt their need for each other was. Love should be all consuming, something one can’t live without, and it should always takes precedence. Calmes shows that perfectly through these two. It’s obsessive, possessive, desperate, claiming, and painful - but still absolutely necessary to function, let alone exist. Miro and Ian really grasp and acknowledge this here, and it was amazingly wonderful. *sigh*

Simply loved it. Want more of it.

**2/16/18 UPDATE - I had to stop listening because the narrator was HORRIBLE!! He was actually ruining the book for me and I will not allow that. So I guess I'll just have to go at it the old fashioned way and reread with my eyes instead of my ears to get ready for the fourth book. But, lesson learned, I will never purchase an audiobook with this narrator EVER AGAIN!

**2/12/18 UPDATE - Since Twisted and Tied comes out next month, I'm refreshing my memory of where we've left off with Miro and Ian. Have I mentioned how much I love these two? GAH!! Cuz I do... A LOT! My commute to work just got a whole lot better thanks to this audiobook!! ♥ ♥

I was his, I belonged to him, there was no end to that, and he knew it. Knew he could take until there was nothing left. I loved all the way; I held nothing back. I was lucky he was the same.

Miro and Ian are up there as one of my favorite couples and this third installment just cemented the deal for me.

I'm not going to talk about the plot much because in usual Miro and Ian fashion, there's plenty of twists and turns and surprises.

I loved seeing Miro and Ian coming more into their own. Their relationship is shifting and things that were acceptable before aren't as welcome now that they're truly settling down as partners. And man, I was not expecting all the feels I got when these two were confronting their issues.

The love they have for each other is passionate, all-encompassing and soul deep....but the real world and your responsibilities don't stop coming at you.

The secondary characters were fantastic...as usual. The balance between action, suspense, romance and steam was spot on.

And the steam....oh yes....Miro and Ian were the perfect combination of passion, intimacy, lust and love.

My skin felt tight, flushed with heat, and I swallowed as the sensations tripped through me, sparking, sizzling, the want rising so fast I almost cried out.

See....wowza.

And the best news....at least one more book for these two!! ♥

Okay... *deep breath*
SORRYBUTIWASBOREDOUTOFMYMIND

There, I've said it.

This book did not work for me on so many levels, but since not one of my friends gave it less than four stars, it is safe to say that this is totally on me and...

I love Miro and Ian. Always have, always will. But I especially love them together and for almost half of the book they were apart, so not even these two could save this book for me. The rest of the story was an endless blah-blah-blah with way too much pagefilling. Bad enough that the author introduces each and every character with their name - down to the penultimate secondary one and there are quite a lot - I really don't need to know how many wrinkles they have in the face or what clothes they wear, thank you very much. Compared to the previous books, there was not much happening in this one either - okay two scenes roused me a bit from my doze, but since I don't even remember now what the second scene was, you might get my indifference here. I also don't care about the marital problems of Miro's friends and the subject that was just ridiculous.

Because of Miro and Ian being sweet and hot together - well, when they didn't have some relationship problems and finally were together, that is - I'm giving it 2 stars, but I should maybe resign myself to the fact that Mary Calmes's writing is not really for me. At least I finished it on my second try, thanks to the audiobook, and that's really something.

As good as the blurb of Twisted and Tied sounds, I'm not sure yet if I will go on with this series... *waves white flag*

You know how sometimes when you want something really, really badly and you have to wait a really long time for it, and you keep getting assured it's "coming soon", but you really want it now and then you get it and you're disappointed with the final product?

Yeah, you don't have to worry - the wait was worth it because Tristan James once again rocks this out!

The narration for Tied up in Knots was incredible and so entertaining that I immediately re-listened...to all almost ten hours of awesomeness.

4.5 stars rounded up to 5 because still no 1/2 stars here on GR and it's not everyday that a book makes me this happy.

Ok, so I needed to wait a while to write this review because...

I was honestly too busy bouncing in my chair with excitement over this book. Seriously, from practically the first page all hubby heard my muttering was "Ohmygod!!! Ohmygod!!! I may die of happiness. Seriously if you can die of happiness I'm going to do this right now." and on and on it went. I think he's come to the conclusion that he can replace sex with a Mary Calmes book for me and I won't notice the difference. Now he just needs to figure out that it has to be Miro and Ian. I love all things Mary Calmes but after this book these two men top my list of M/M pairings from Ms Calmes.

Miro and Ian...yep, you can insert **moony eyes here**. I'm totally gaga over these two and this story...well, I just don't even know where to begin. This one just had it all. There was tough guy alpha stuff, guns were shot, people had knives and at one point I was left wondering 'if you're a cop and you pull over a car and the first thing that's said to you is 'I'm a US Marshal' what person in their right mind isn't going to say 'show me some ID' I mean come on common sense here and if that cop doesn't have common sense then I need to know 'who the hell gave him a gun?'...just puttin' that out there for the universe...and then on top of all this tough guy action we had Miro and Ian working through some pretty important relationship stuff. I know I'm being really, really vague here but come on do you really want me to give details and spoil things? I think not. It's Mary Calmes and if you love her books like I do you know you're going to read this, hell even if my best friend in the whole world told me she hated this and that I shouldn't read it. I'd just look at her with sad eyes and say 'oh, you poor confused kitten' as I wandered off to read this...well, I would if I hadn't already read this.

Honestly I'm still bouncing in my chair thinking about this book and if I had the time I'd start reading it all over again right now. On top of everything else there were some fabulous cameo's in this book and some of them were surprising to say the least...yep, read the book I shall go no further on this one.

There was one little tiny niggle at the end for me and while I didn't totally buy into it, somehow it still worked with the story so 4.5 'YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK' stars for me because Miro and Ian and so much Mary Calmes awesomeness how can you not?

I'm pissed. I'm frustrated. I'm annoyed. I'm intrigued. I'm in awe. GOD SAVE ME FROM THIS FUCKING BOOK ‼️

I was his, I belonged to him, there was no end to that, and he knew it. Knew he could take until there was nothing left. I loved all the way; I held nothing back. I was lucky he was the same.

The sort of conflict and tension and bat shit frustration I felt at this book wasn't at the matter of Ian not being there - although that didn't help - was that WHEN Ian was there, they would always clash. They'd fight and argue and the “solution” to their problems didn't feel tangible and it created tension that rioted my entire nervous damn system.

But fuck, despite it all, Ian and Miro were damn bloody explosive. I hated it and loved it and hated it and adored it at the same time.

And damn me and damn my brain and damn my existence, because lord need strenght for my next words because after what happened the last book, I was really not anticipating - hell even looking forward to Dr Craig Hartley.

I felt like the first two books we saw the face of the psychopath, the infamous caution that terrorized people's spine at the whisper of prince charming, yet in this book, in this timeline, he felt... different. He felt real and tangible and dig me a damn grave, but so damn fascinating. It was thrilling and mind fucking to read the way his mind, a true to his core psychopath, worked and to see the way he caressed every stretch of his actions.

He was a man not to be fucked with and even when his actions caused destruction and terror in too many people to count, sometimes as Ian said, he felt sane in a breach of absolute lunacy. His actions were fucked but he was “better” than your next serial killer. He was immensely fascinating and I felt like I saw a glimpse of the real Craig Hartley somewhere in between their interaction with Miro.

I hate myself for saying this even more so ban me y'all... But If there was a fanfic of Hartley and Miro's somewhere... in this planet, I wouldn't mind reading it.

The weirdest thing happened to me with this book. When I first read it I was somewhat disappointed. I think my expectations were just crazy weird at that moment. But now that I've listened to all 3 audiobooks in a row I can honestly say that I loved this one just as much as the first two! So I'm totally adding a star and adding it to my favorites shelf.

---------------
Original 4 star review:

Although I still really liked this, it wasn't as good as the other two books. It took two reads for me to finally be able to pinpoint what it was and to decide on a rating and write a review.

This book felt out of control. I was constantly waiting for ‘the big plotline’, but that only happened in the last 20%. The rest was just a jumbled mess.

For most of this book Ian and Miro were just…. there. Not a lot happens and I guess I wanted a bit more conflict/action/overly romantic stuff to start happening.

I do have to say that when it did happen, it was GOOOOOOD! I really loved those parts. I’m a big Craig Hartley fan, so him appearing again was just awesome. I love how creepy he is. And I loved how it has changed the way he sees Miro now. (And I mean that I love him as a villain, ).

The last 20% was amazing and I hope the next book is more like that.

I'm a huge Calmes fan. I have been waiting for a new book while binge reading all her other series. And I have to admit I'm stumped about this one. Too much was going on. Too many characters and not enough setup for them. I could keep up with Anna Karenina but this one had me swiping back a coupla pages to figure out who's who.

Also, that whole Jory-ness where the narrator is loved by everyone... it was charming when it was Jory, Jin and even Weber but it's getting old. I don't know. And Ian's issues coulda been solved by just eliminating the BS. I found it dragged and unnecessary. I expected more action and drama but it felt strange. I don't know whether my expectations were too high or what. But I just expected more.

More action, a central conflict primary to the plot and a conclusion where the conflict is resolved and everyone gets there happily ever after (for now). There was just too much and I'm all over the place as to how to feel about it.

I love Mary Calmes and generally finish her books within a day or two - I try to space it out but again wasn't successful; am going to reread more of her books now. I love Miro and the team and his friends, but as well as that I loved the dynamic with Ian, they feel real, the plot moves along very smoothly and it's a story I will definitely read again.

Tied Up in Knots is the 3rd book in the Marshalls series. Miro and Ian are one of my favorite couples and I absolutely adore that they are both bad ass U.S. Marshalls, but yet wear their heart on their sleeve.

I loved Ian with everything I had, but I also feared him dicing my heart up into little pieces at the same time

With Ian on deployment, Miro is trying to live his life, but he is having a hard time and struggling. When Ian finally returns, they are both on edge. Unfortunately, both old enemies as well as some new ones, surface and both Ian and Milo are on their radar. Life, once again changes, and Milo is left alone and lost without Ian.

I could actually feel my heart beating sometimes when Ian walked with me. I could feel the reverberation of his footsteps inside me because he was mine, my love

Yea, these two make you feel all mushy inside. I loved the openess in the way they spoke to each other. Their fears, hopes and just wanting to be together.

The only complaint I had was there were so many characters, both old and new, that I was confused at times, but I still loved the book.

SQUEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

Sorry…but I loved this book! Loved it in a way that I felt like every Mary Calmes fan and especially fans of her Marshals series as my own personal book club and I wanted to high five them all saying “Sogood, RIGHT?!”

Ya know…as good as the author is at writing some sweet lovin’ and I-love-them-so-much-together couples, she also knows how to write some sick-ass sh*t. No joke. And not in that kinky way. In that psychotic bad guy way. And Dr. Craig Hartley, whether he’s on page or his existence is just looming in the background making me paranoid of EVERYTHING, is one of the creepiest bad guys I’ve ever read.

But forget him for now…let’s talk Miro and Ian. *sigh*. They’re so insecure about each other! ha! For two tough guy Marshals, they honestly can be such drama queens about their relationship. And I eat that up! It’s…*ahem*…familiar to me. And as Ian’s other responsibilities to the military have him away from Miro for longer and longer periods of time, the emotional angst is cranked up. This emotion is a great counter-balance to the action and mystery in the story.

What's to Like:
This 3rd book is the best of the series. I feel like as I get to know Miro and Ian better, they’re becoming one of my favorite Calmes couples!

What's to Love:
Ok, here’s a treat: there are some cameo appearances from characters both from Calmes’ other books and from some crossovers from some other authors’ books. AND IT’S EVERYTHING!

Beware of:
The only thing I can think of is this book most definitely cannot be read as a standalone. You have to start with book 1 of this series to understand what’s going on.

This Book is For:
If you’ve already read books 1 and 2, then it’s a no-brainer. READ THIS ONE…it’s the best yet. If you haven’t, then start this series immediately. I mean…MARSHALS!

Good lawd the levels of eye rolling I reached in this book!

As above, there were so many times in this book that I had to chuckle to myself as the plotline went off into the far distance and something else utterly ridiculous happened.

And, as with the previous books in this series, I've hit the "I don't actually care" stage because Mary Calmes has me addicted to her brand of crazy town.

Here we've got our favourite mad serial killer escaping yet again, only this time there's a massive twist in the tale coming when his path collides with Miro once more.

That was very definitely the moment at which I decided to give up even beginning to think there might be any attempt to make a narrative structure that makes sense.

It's bonkers and the unpredictability of the storytelling is why I'm now binging this series having owned it since it was first published!

*SPOILER ALERT!*

ARC review...

*I'm enamored with Ian and Miro!*

This book !

This has ALL the feeling that need to be said and done. Both by Ian and Miro. Everything!
The internal battle was almost killing me. Damn, I cried 'hearing' Miro's 'internal voices', how he longed for Ian to settle down, and how much Ian wanted to be always with Miro (he didn't say it out loud of course), but Mary did a great job to 'described' the feeling.

It was perfection!

I was preparing myself to 'experience' something like the previous book, but this one was actually much more lighter than book two, that's a relieved, because the 'actual story' was about Ian and Miro and how they cope with their insecurity about their relationship, while Ian was away from home.
There were some unexpected scenes going on between Miro and his long term tormentor, and that alone left me smiling...hell if this one won't make you smile...It's beyond me...

I dunno, I just can't get that scene out of my head for a very long time :)
Well at least, the villain was willing to reformed ... for just one kiss. What? Yeah. A kiss.
No, don't worry about cheating, it's just Miro under pressure...trust me.

I'm still hungover this book, probably with much better words to tell you, how perfect this book was for me.
This is weekend, so, I'm ended with re-reading. Missed Miro and Ian and Chickie already !

Highly recommended!

This series is over the top ridiculous in SO many ways, but I love it anyway. My only real issue with this installment was So. Many. People. FBI agents, DEA agents, Army Rangers, Marshals, friends, police detectives. I just couldn't keep them all straight, especially knowing that lots of them were from other series and books, some not even by this author! But I just ignored all of that, and went along for the ride, and it was quite the ride, indeed. Ian and Miro love each other SO much, but they are having a difficult time, dealing with Ian constantly getting deployed with his Special Forces team.

As usual, there was a lot going on here. We start out in San Francisco, with Miro loaned out to the DEA, and a crooked agent, and then there's someone killing people in Ian's old unit, and an escaped serial killer, and all of Miro's MANY BFFs showing up at all hours. It was exhausting, but fun, thrilling and exciting, and I'm glad to see that we're getting at least one more book about this duo.

5 STARS!

“I could actually feel my heart beating sometimes when Ian walked with me. I could feel the reverberation of his footsteps inside me because he was mine, my love.”

Tied up in knots is definitely my favorite in the series so far!

I read this in one sitting, and i flew through it. I read it on a uni night, and kept telling myself one more chapter, just one more chapter, until finally i found myself on the very last page, not realizing that it was literally 6 am while i had class at 10 am. Even then, i just sat there for a full ten minutes while my eyes were literally blurry and droopy with sleep, with a massive headache, just debating whether i should start the next book or go to sleep.

Starting this series the week where i have three significant assignments due(on which I’m falling way behind schedule), was in hindsight the best and worst mistake i could’ve made.
Best mistake, because I’m hooked on this series and it’s just so addictive and unputdownable.
Worst mistake, because i already missed a class to stay up all night reading it, and am procrastinating on writing my assignments just to finish the series.
So, that should tell you exactly how much i loved this book, and just this series overall.

Now excuse me while i go ✨coughfinish this seriescough✨, finish writing my essays.

Full RTC(maybe?), sometime after i submit all my essays.
