Oh my goodness I do NOT know where to start! I've been an avid follower of this series since I first laid eyes on it. Zoey and her ragtag family of creatures have always kept me entertained and googling to learn more about the latest weird and wonderful mythical creature and this instalment proved to be no different.
If I were Zoey I would be feeling exhausted by now too. At the start of this book her life has pretty much imploded on a personal level. For a while I almost felt like I had missed an essential section? But pretty soon the story begins to explain itself, Zoey has a lot going on personally, especially between herself and her mother & boyfriend. There is baggage galore really... and it's about time for it to be sorted out. This book does spend a lot of time on reflecting on relationships and consequences, I enjoyed being able to dig a little deeper into some of the characters and their motivations/interactions. The emotive side to this series was really forefront in this book, which made an interesting pace change to previous books. Perhaps this is the reason why I found this book on the more serious side to the last 4 books? There was definitely still the comedy and quirk that I've been obsessed with, but just not quite as much as previously. I did miss it, but you can't fit everything in when there is a story begging to be told..
Now if having to deal with break ups and make ups isn't bad enough, there's also the small matter of it being almost the end of the world... Zoey isn't the type to sit back and hide and she definitely isn't the type to sit back and hide while everyone else is out fighting to stop the apocalypse. She has a conscience and a headstrong personality and she definitely puts them to use in this book. Trust me when I say when you realize how the end of the world could come about you'll be just as shell shocked as Zoey was. I know I was, as I was reading I was shaking my head in disbelief... If you think you've encountered all of the monsters possible in this series, then you are SO wrong and I have to admit when I first got into the midst of this story line, with the portals and exactly what comes out of the portals I was a little unsure... but by the end (and especially at the very end) I actually ended up LOVING the concept. Like always, the quirky way that these (frequently over-used) monsters were dealt with really made all of the difference.
I know the next book in this series is meant to be the last and I have my heart hoping for a perfect conclusion to a series that has done an awesome job of building up its momentum. Now is the time to come down the other side and see where the cards have fallen. I am hoping for a big fat HEA, because this is the series which has Skunk-Apes and Unicorns and tiny Dragons, not to mention Closet Monsters and Brownies. By every universal rule, a series which has such whimsical beings, deserves to have flowers and rainbows at the end, I don't feel like it's too much to ask for! But I'll be waiting with baited breath, that's for sure.
When I'm looking for a fun, light hearted read with a huge collection of weird and wonderful supernatural creatures this is my go to series, R.L. Naquin never fails to make me laugh and Demons in My Driveway was no exception to that. I have to admit that this story was a little darker in tone and had a few less humorous moments than the previous books but I'm still an avid fan and looking forward to seeing how Zoey's story ends in Phoenix in My Fortune. Actually, I'm not sure that I'm ready for the series to end but that's always the sign of a great series - leave your readers wanting more not wishing it had ended 5 books ago!
A lot of things have changed for Zoey, for one she has her mother back which she is over the moon about even if it is a little awkward having two Aegis in one house. Zoey and her mother both have very different ways of doing things and that leads to a lot of friction between them. They are now the only two remaining Aegis in the country so when Zoey is given the chance to go to an Aegis conference in the UK she jumps at the chance of meeting others like herself. Unfortunately things don't go quite to plan and now she finds herself in a desperate race to save the last remaining Aegis before their enemy can kill them all and destroy the planet in the process.
Yes, once more Zoey is in the middle of the action and she is going to need the help of all her friends and allies if she is going to save the day. I'm not going to say much more about the plot other than to mention that we meet some interesting new characters. I was a little surprised (and very disappointed!) by the way Zoey and Riley have let the stress of their jobs come between them and put a halt on their relationship and I really hope they get things sorted out before the series comes to a close. I'm also curious to see how the Board will cope with having such a massive shortage of Aegis. Considering how much work Zoey already has to deal with they really are going to have to figure something out quickly unless they want the general public to discover the existence of the Hidden. It'll definitely be interesting to see how the series closes out but I'm kind of hoping that things will be left open enough to allow us to revisit these characters in the future or to at least have a spin off series. Anyone else interested in a series about a Closet Monster? I know I would be!
Zoey heads off to a get together with all the Aegis’s as well as the leaders of the area. Only upon arriving she learns quickly that she’s not the only Aegis that was under attack and numbers are dwindling dramatically. Returning home, she learns that it’s not over someone is determined to slay all the Aegis’s at any cost and is using magical portals to other worlds to bring creatures to kill them. Being forced to stay in the safety of her own home isn’t what she had planned but it’s the only way to stay safe with the looming threat
As if being stuck at home isn’t bad imagine being protected by your ex-reaper boyfriend who like Zoey isn’t over the other. At least Zoey isn’t alone her mother another Aegis is safe and she’s made a lot of hidden friends to help out. As the body count starts to go up and the living Aegis is quickly dwindling they need to figure it out or they will be the last. Will Zoey and her friends be able to stop the looming zombie apocalypse that will end their world? What about her relationship with Riley? Who is the demon in her driveway?
I like Zoey a lot she’s one of my favorite characters in the urban fantasy world. While she may be human she has some magic up her sleeves as an empath and protector of the hidden. Over the years she’s made some strong friendship’s even bringing her friends into the hidden world like Sara. I found Sara’s aspect in the story very intriguing and was hoping that things would work out for her. I’m such a fan of Zoey and Riley they just complement each other so well even if things haven’t been working out I have hope.
Demons in my Driveway is the 5th installment in the Monster Haven series. First off I love the concept for the Monster Haven Series it’s unique and each novel gives us a new insight into the hidden world. I admit I’m not a huge fan of demons so I was a little skeptical as to the role they would play in this book. However, Demons in my Driveway doesn’t disappoint it’s action packed, filled with mystery and just enough romance to leave you wanting more. The characters are great I’ve fallen in love with Zoey and Maurice and secretly hope that one day I’ll find a house with my very own closet monster. The author has created another beautifully done installment in the Monster Haven series and I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen next.
Bernice takes a reluctant Zoey to England for a Hidden meeting and everyone reacts with alarm to see her out in the open. They are told that every country has now had Aegises attacked and only a handful are left alive. Zoey flees home to find Maurice in a panic, especially when a portal to the demon world opens on their driveway. Talia the Demon Queen is not happy about it and decides to help try and stop it but the church cult which includes Pansy keep chanting to open more. When each portal opens, an aswang leaps through to try to kill an Aegis and if the portal to the zombie world opens, the apocalypse will come.
This was so action packed that I could barely catch my breath and I loved it! Portals are opening to worlds of demons, werewolves, vampires and zombies, and each Portal threatens the lives of our gang, which really had me on edge. Through these portals we get to meet some interesting new characters like Papa Dino, the vampire ruler and Talia the Demon ruler. The weres were also good fun and there was humour in amongst the action, which this author is really good at.
Then there was the emotional angst. Zoey and Riley have split up and are finding it difficult to work together because of it. Stacy is in despair at the amount of time that Maurice is spending with Sara and doesn't think that she can compete. My heart broke for poor Stacy and I so wanted her and Maurice to get back together! I just didn't like the idea of Maurice and Sara as a couple. Maurice is really pissed that his ex wife Pansy is involved with the Cult and giving Zoey such a hard time. I could have hit Pansy at times in this book but she was a really good character. Maurice and his tangled love life feature heavily in this book and I actually enjoyed it! Tashi has good news to share but Aggie hints that her own time is nearly up which alarms Zoey as they are not ready to deal with the threatened apocalypse. Sara gets the chance to have justice against her rapist but Zoey is alarmed at the idea of him coming anywhere near Sara again.
And then came the zombies. The Big Battle where every single creature is in danger and fighting for survival. If the zombies bite you, you become one of them and can never live in this realm again as you are too dangerous. I was in full panic mode watching all the characters I care about going into battle. And of course, there was a moment that made me scream 'noooooo!' and yes, yet again the author made me cry! Why do you DO this to me woman!!! I just can't take any more!!!
The author writes her characters so well that you just connect to them and love them, so it breaks your heart when bad crap happens to any of them. The wonderful thing about these books is the emotion the reader invests in them-you laugh, you cry and your anxiety levels go up and down as each new problem occurs. It is just so well written with the perfect amount of angst, action, laughs and romance. I recommend these books so much!
Enjoying this series and I'm excited for the next book as well as sad that it's the last in the series. Things are coming for a head with Zoey and the gang. The Big Bad is coming. Things didn't really pick up until almost to the end. A lot of waiting in the middle and some of what happens in the storyline confused me as they have happened before the beginning of the book. I almost thought I missed a book in between. All in all pretty good
I don’t know why it took me so long to finally read this book. I think maybe reading this one, I knew I’d immediately have to read the next one and then the series would be over and I don’t want it to end. This series was a surprise to me. I had a feeling I would like it, but I didn’t realize how much. I have fallen for Zoey and her family of Hidden and I don’t want to say goodbye. Thankfully, I don’t have to as this will definitely be a series I will re-read in the future.
The penultimate book felt a bit darker and at times a bit slower than the last four. I think there was a lot that needed to be set up for the final book in the series. I also think it was important to expand the Hidden lore by bringing in some of the more classic monsters like demons, vampires, werewolves and even zombies. I liked the way these were handled in this book with them being more good guys who want to be left alone on their worlds than bad guys out to get everyone. It was a nice change of pace.
I love that we got to see all of the characters we know and love. We got some answers regarding what’s going on with the governing bodies and with the other Aegis around the world. I liked that Zoey’s best friend Sarah got a bit of closure along with something else that I actually think will make her happier in the end. This book had all the quirky characters and laughs that I expect from the series, plus a whole lot more. It was a bit more serious given the end of the world was nigh, but it all worked so well together. The minute I finished this book, I had to start the final one, just like I knew I would. Waiting was not an option and I bet it won’t be for anyone else either.
This is a must read series for me and will definitely be on my re-read TBR. I highly recommend it.
Arc provided by the publisher via Netgalley for an honest review
Well the story is progressing smoothly I guess but its still getting bogged down by circumstances and way too many characters to keep proper track of. There's only one more book to go so I'm willing to see how things end.
Fabulous characters that interact with each other beautiful! Wonderful plot twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend this series and author.
Not as good as the earlier books. Does a lot of telling rather than showing and was a bit repetitive. Still an interesting world and some good characters.
I'm a little freaked out because as I write this, I know that the next book will be the last, and I'm gunna cry! I flipping love this series. I've become so attached to these characters!! I love them, and their story! But anywho, Zoey is always in trouble. And this time, it's a big deal. Zoey finally has her mom back, BUT all the other Aegis are being murdered and it's gunna cause the apocalypse, literally. They hold the human world separate from the supernatural world so if they die, we all die. Yep, this one is a little darker than the last few, but it's coming down to the nitty gritty and it's on.
So, Zoey goes with Bernice across the pond to Europe to a convention for the supernatural world. And as it turns out, she really really should have stayed home. She finds out that someone is murdering every single last one of the Aegis and she's on the hit list, as well as her mom. And if she's in danger, than so are all of her friends and the people she protects. And to make matters worse, with all of the deaths in the US with the supernatural government, it's not just us, but all of the countries are loosing their government folk, and man is everyone getting all crazy.
Zoey is changing. She's getting more aggressive in her stance of, "you will no longer walk all over me". She's still so willing to help those in need, but she won't take any more BS from anyone. And she's stuck over her break up with Riley, I mean hell, I'm heartbroken too. Her and her mom don't see eye to eye, and her BFF Sara and Maurice and Stacy seem to have a very troubled love triangle that Zoey can't help fix. Plus, there's this new government dude coming around and Zoey just doesn't like him. And to make matters worse, there's so much suspicion on who's really helping the bad guys take out all the good guys.
So, I will not give away spoilers, but let me just say that I am loving the action with all of the other characters. Maurice has his own drama with an ex wife, his love for Sara, his oblivion to Stacy's love for him, and he's totally stressed over all the death threats of Zoey and her mom. Sara is trying to deal with the consequences left by the damn evil Incubus and what he did to her, while trying to make sure to be there for Zoey. Zoey's mom is well, just different, and I like a little kick ass in my women, and she really isn't. I know she doesn't mean to, but I don't like how she makes Zoey doubt so much of herself. Darius is awesome. Riley is awesome. Kam, OMG I cried for her, but she is also awesome. Andrew and his boyfriend have the coolest pet in Milo, and now they have Howard, who is hilarity at its best and is a great addition. We will also meet the queen of the Demons, who I happened to love, the king of Vampers, which makes me giggle with all his bling and chest hair, and the alpha pair of the were-folk. See, the characters surrounding Zoey are so fantastic. And I love them just as much as I love her, but I can't tell you things about them directly without ruining something from the book :) Just read this series ok!
The plot is fantastic!! I can't grasp how this author comes up with these things, but I love that she does. And I so love how Zoey brings out the best in people. :) The writing is always magnificent, and I really am sad that things are ending soon. Really sad. But I am so glad I have read this series. So with that, I will say that this is one of my favorite series, ever, and I think you should read it, like for really! 5 MAGNIFICENT PAWS!! :)
This series quickly became one of the few that I follow very closely when I read the first two books a little over a year and a half ago. I always look forward to the next instalment, and this being the penultimate book in the series I was sure the stakes would be upped yet again.
We join Zoey in England a few months further down the line following events in book four. We pretty quickly find out that during that downtime Zoey and Riley broke up. All the way through this book I kept asking myself why on earth the author would choose to stage the break up off-page. It had absolutely no impact whatsoever on me as the reader because, at least for me personally, I wasn’t caught up in the emotions involved in the death of a relationship. I was just an observer, and moreover the little bits of information we do glean about the break-up are, of course, all tell. This disappointed me as the author is very capable of wringing all sorts of heartbreak from the reader when she puts her mind to it.
While in England Zoey learns that the USA isn’t the only country where the Aegis population has been decimated. The minions of some unknown entity have been taking out every Aegis they can find on a global scale. It’s got to the point where only a small handful of these people are left. She’s whisked back to the US and pretty much placed under house arrest while the leaders of the Hidden community try to uncover who is at the source of these attacks.
Things quickly unravel further, with portals to the other worlds being unlocked (there are five worlds, of which four are linked: demon, vampire, werewolf, zombie; the final world, the djinn world, is separate from all others). The endgame appears to be to unlock the zombie world, should the attacks from the other worlds fail to kill off the Aegis population, as zombies have no leader to keep them under control, and, more critically, have no off button. Once the portals to their world open, it’s pretty much the zombie apocalypse.
The story in this fifth instalment is rather dark. In the first few books, everything tended to be fairly light and funny; in the more recent books there’s been a darkness to the story, but this is offset but the humour. Here, the story is pretty dark, and everything else going on in Zoey’s life is also dark. It’s a good build-up of tension for the finale, but I think this is the only instalment where I haven’t giggled aloud.
Zoey is once again surrounded by a fabulous cast of friends and family, most of whom are paranormal creatures. We finally get to meet Maurice’s ex-wife, Pansy, and we get a clearer view of how things are run in the upper echelons of Hidden society. Zoey puts her foot down when it comes to certain people who are trying to push her to do what they want of her, yet lets others walk all over her. It’s a bit of a weird combination really, but it didn’t upset me too much while reading.
There are hints in this book that the gnomes who’ve been living under Zoey’s porch since one of the early books may have a large role to play in everything. Colour me intrigued! I look forward to finding out more about them in the final book.
With this being the second to the last book in the Monster Haven series, DEMONS IN MY DRIVEWAY spends a lot of time setting up for the end through big revelations and big changes for Zoey and her friends. The clever, quirky creatures and light moments help balance out the loads of death, near deaths, and losses that pervade this book. Its the loyalty and strength of Zoey's family and friends that make the coming apocalypse in the next book seem pretty manageable. One of the fun aspects of this series is its ability to weave yet more creatures into an already full world. We not only have closet monsters, and dragons in this book but the classic monsters now including zombies, werewolves, demons, and vampires.
There is a lot of inner reflection and relationship discussion alongside the constant looming threats of imminent violence and actual violence in this book which actually makes the story move a touch slower than the previous ones. While sometimes these moments of naval gazing and ruminations might slow down a story, the character dynamics and interactions in this series are able to be interesting enough to keep up the pacing and not drag the plot down. One of the bigger relationship issues is the one between Zoey and Riley who are broken up in this book. While I adored these two together and wanted them to get back together, their resolution was a little too easy and random. I actually flipped back through the book to see if I missed something. There are a lot of other fun character moments that showcase each of Zoe's friends' talents and personalities from Kam the djinn to Darius
The 'big bad' in DEMONS IN MY DRIVEWAY was kind of out of the blue and felt a little thrown together but I guess most of that was due to some much larger threats going on involving zombies, portals to other dimensions, and a looming apocalypse. The writing in DEMONS IN MY DRIVEWAY is as I've come to expect with this series, wonderful. The characters are charming and I love how much Zoe has grown in confidence in regards to her role as Ageis. I also enjoyed the overwhelming feeling of doom that pervaded this plot as Zoe rolled through threat after threat in preparation for whatever horror is to come for her in the final book.
I just love this quirky series and "Demons in My Driveway" is another great installment. There is apparently only one more book left in the series and this book is beginning to tie things up nicely. We get the opportunity to finally obtain resolution to some of the character drama that has plagued us since the beginning.
Our story begins with Zoey attending a meeting in Europe where she hopes to meet other Aegises. Unfortunately, she is dismayed when she discovers that people are treating her as though she has three heads. That is when she discovers that Aegises across the world are being killed. She is immediately whisked through a portal back home. When she arrives there is a flurry of activity as the gang including our favorite closet monster, Maurice and Zoey's ex-boyfriend, Riley try to keep her safe all while attempting to figure out who is killing her counterparts.
We get a glimpse into the relationship building between Zoey and her mother. Additionally, we finally get a glimpse at Pansy, Maurice's ex wife. Of course all of our other favorite characters are in attendance and in full action mode such as Kam, the Djinn, Sara, Zoey's BFF and Andrew. There is plenty of action and intrigue which includes some new characters and monsters/supernatural creatures.
I will admit that at one point I was frustrated with Zoey's ineffectual actions in guarding her home turf. No one in their right mind would let anyone come into their home and take over; yet, Zoey allows one of the Council's Muckety Mucks to do exactly that. Really? Come on now Ms. Naquin, you had a missed opportunity for Zoey to show her growth in character. This is the reason I gave the book 4 stars instead of 5.
Overall, I enjoyed this installment. However, I do wish there had been some Riley and Zoey time. However, I am hoping that the final book will set everything to rights.
I was so excited to get this book on Netgalley. I fell in love with this series and am excited to see where it is going and looking back, it is amazing to see how far Zoey has come. The last book, Golem in My Glovebox, had Zoey searching for the person who kidnapped her mother. Zoey and her boyfriend/bodyguard Riley were on a cross country trek to reestablish the Hidden police force aka O.G.R.E.S., all the while trying to stop a serial killer who planned to make Zoey's mom their big finale. I am not going to tell you how it ends if you haven't read the last book. I will say, there was a Happy Ending for some involved.
This book starts a little after the events of book 4. And the author knows how to kick things up a notch. As it turns out, the events that happened in the U.S. were similarly happening around the world. There is now a tremendous shortage of Aegis left, and someone is opening up portals to other dimensions in an effort to pick them off, one by one. Luckily for Zoey, she has a group of friends and family that are willing to do what it takes to help her and her mom survive. What it comes down to is Zoey using her Empathetic gifts to help solve the problem of the opening portals before every last Aegis in the world is dead, taking her friends and family with them.
This book puts Zoey back in her house surrounded by the various creatures I have come to know and love. Each one brings something different to her group and she comes to realize that she doesn't have to know or do everything when she has loved ones around ready to assist her. The final battle isn't over, but looks like it is getting close. There were some shocking loses this book and some interesting reveals. I can't wait for the next (and maybe last book) Phoenix in My Fortune. This was a 4 star read.
Not as good as the second book, but a great improvement over the last one.
After the boring last book, this one redeems both itself and the series by having an interesting story and some actual pacing. This is the fifth book with the sixth already announced, so there might be spoilers for stupid people:
It feels like the book is setting up all the pieces for the grand finale and it does succeed. Yes it is extremely hard to feel any kind of suspense if the deadly threat to our heroine comes true or not. And yes, the great looming danger will probably not be resolved until the end of the series, so here we have the setup. The action is densely packed, the characters work out in their respective arches and some welcome additional characters flesh out the story. Not all work, there is a howling dud that needs serious work, but on the whole cast and story briskly work their way to the inevitable tabula rasa that precedes the grand finale.
The big thing that doesn't work for me is the mood. This book is not just dark, it is grim and frankly not what I expected or wanted to read. In the previous books the darker aspects always had some lighter counterparts, lifting the overall mood to something tolerable. In this book even the lighter moments have a desperate and dark feeling. Once an entirely unironic “end of the world” party popped up, I had the dark feeling I was in the wrong series. There was also the feeling that the villain in the story deserved better. Or maybe not, since both the identity and the motivation were dealt with in about a page and none made sense. But there is the ultimate evil and hopefully he will get an interesting book.
I am looking forward to the next book, this one prepares the stage for the grand finale and then hopefully the big finish.
Update: I think I'm enjoying these books even more the second time around, especially since some of my gaps in backstory are now filled. I do miss the less worried Zoey of the first few, but it's nice to see things grow and develop.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
If you’re looking for a zany and amazing group of misfit paranormals, look no further than this series! They have everything from closet monsters to gnomes and all the paranormals (or “Hidden”) in between. Zoey and her friends battle against Armageddon (and zombies) in this one, and it contains just the right balance of sarcastic humor and wit to make it a fabulous read.
Zoey is in a weird place when we start this book. She’s broken up with her reaper boyfriend and is still trying to figure out where she belongs. Surrounded by her unique group of “hidden” friends, she has no shortage of support system while she struggles through the trials and tribulations of being one of the last remaining Aegis…es… Aegi?...I have no idea what the plural of Aegis is. At any rate, this book is definitely jam packed with action and excitement. There’s monsters upon monsters coming at them from all angles. Also, there’s a bunch of personal drama that gets mashed in between battles.
All in all, if you’ve read the series before, or even if you’re willing to dive into a series already in progress, you’ll be smitten by this completely crazy and wacky group of unlikely allies. Their interactions are silly but full of feeling. This series never fails to entertain.
Zoey Donovan is one of the very few Aegis left in the world. She helps the Hidden stay safe in the human world. Her house is generally bursting at the seems with creatures that need some help or somewhere safe to stay. This time around things are a bit different. Zoey's mother is back in the picture and living at her house. But that's not the only change, the reaper boyfriend we've all grown to love is out of the picture, though they're still friends. Being an Aegis is taking a toll on Zoey, and it will just get worse since the other few Aegis's are being killed one by one. Someone is opening portals and releasing monsters, which is causing a lot of issues. With Zoey on lock down in her house so she doesn't leave the protection, she has to somehow figure out who is behind the attacks before it is too late.
While this installment wasn't go go go like the previous book or two, it was still a pretty solid addition to the series. I'm so sad that the next book is marked to be the last one but I am happy to hear that there will be additional books from that world in the future. Zoey has gone through so much since she found out she's an Aegis, and I hope to see it wrapped up nicely in the next book. I highly suggest this series if you're looking for a unique Urban Fantasy.
Zoey has found her mother, and life should be perfect. Unfortunately she's no longer 8 years old, and doesn't need to be protected. To add to the problem, there is a new cult in town, including Maurice's ex-wife Pansy... and they seem determined to bring about the end of the world. There are portals opening up all over the world, and letting in all the fairy tale creatures who have been kept apart from our world. Demons, vampires, werewolves (excuse me, I mean werefolk). Also, someone is killing off all the Aegises in the world. Zoey already has her hands full, dealing with her mother, with Sara's trauma over her returning memories of Sebastian, and with her breakup with Riley. Now she has the end of the world on her plate as well.
This one was a bit darker in tone. While it still had the same humor and quirkiness of the other books, it was also more serious in the problems it presented. Not that Naquin has ever been too fluffy. No one who kills off her characters like she does can be accused of being too lighthearted.
3.5 stars = I like it, but..This is normally a lighter series, and though there does tend to be some death in the stories this book just didn't seem to have as many humorous little bits to balance that out. With just two Aegis left in the US, Zoey heads across the pond to an International conference and discovers that the loss is world wide - and that there is a plot to wipe out the rest of the world's Aegis - plus a zombie apocalypse is looming.
So the foundation of the story is sort of sad and monster-whisperer Zoey is estranged from her Reaper boyfriend Riley ( which really surprised me, their breakup happened off screen since the last book - I went back and checked to see if I'd just forgotten) so that's sad too.
I still liked seeing the rest of Zoey's oddball little clan and I hope the next book works things out with several of the relationships around Zoey and leaves everyone with a HEA.
"Demons in My Driveway" is the fifth book in R.L. Naquin's Monster Haven Series. Zoey heads to London to attend the international gathering of Hidden Governments with Bernice to find out that the Americans aren't the only ones suffering losses. With the opening up of a portal to another world, Zoey and her mother are put on lockdown inside her Fairy Ring. Whoever is trying to break the Covenant is stepping up their game. Can Zoey and her mother survive long enough to keep the Covenant from falling apart? Or will they be the cause of it's destruction. Overall, there are so many twists and turns, it's hard to put this book down. R.L. Naquin is a master story teller. You must read her books in order so that you can fully enjoy this series.
Zoey and the gang are back! This series generally features the more rare of the Hidden: brownies, chupacabras, closet monsters, etc. In this book we finally get to see the more cliche vamps, demons, and werewolves--with, of course, a wacky spin. This book has a bit darker a tone than the earlier books as we build toward the final novel in the series. I was taken aback by Zoey & Riley's (off-screen) break-up, but there are some cool developments in Sara's plotline and I loved the businesspeople zombie apocalypse.
The Monster Haven books are wonderful. Fun to read, the author has courage and is willing to take risks. Demons, book #5, not as enjoyable as the first 4, I'm assuming that she's grown tired of Zoey and her gang. But, I'm committed, and will buy #6, to find closure for the friends I've found in this series. I won't ruin anything by saying, I'll miss Zoey and Maurice, Riley, Sara, Darius... And all the rest. This author has me hooked, I've already enjoyed her second series. Clever, funny! And worth your time.
I'm a sucker for these kinds of stories. Although the description hardly touches the main storyline it gives you that immediate feeling of "this is going to be fun!". The hidden world of monsters is in trouble and they need help. This light hearted book series, which is a complete and finished series, has a way of getting to you. The monsters become humane and at some point tears are involved. Anyone with a weakness for the underdogs should read this.
Love this series!! Once again Zoey & her posse of Hidden are on a race against the clock to figure out what and who is killing all the Aegis. In true Monste Haven style we meet the rest of Hidden creatures. Demons, Weres, Vampires and Zombies. None are how you may think they are.
The only reason this is a 4 star rating is the "love" side stories were boring and drawn out.
This is such a delightful book! Once again R.L.Naquin has brought me to another world and has had me laughing out loud at her captivating characters. I love being entertained from page one to the end. Zoey fights for her life and the lives of her friends once again, the mystery thrills and will keep you turning pages. I highly recommend this book/series!
Light-hearted supernatural adventure continues. It's nice to see a supernat author who pokes fun at the genre while writing. This series is a good read for a blah day when you're not feeling like having to think too hard. That said, one can relate to the characters and no one is two-dimensional.
