When a guest is murdered and the bride disappears, she gets her wish but is forced to confront her feelings and work with Jackson to solve the case. I have always loved a good mystery. From my early years watching Murder She Wrote to more recent shows like Monk, Psych, and my absolute favorite BBC show ever, Sherlock, I have studied what it takes to make an entertaining mystery. I am truly blessed to be able to write and share my own mysteries with you. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I loved writing them :)
Kindle Unlimited, the Craft Circle Mystery books were a bit better than the Bakery Detective ones, but that's not saying much. Would be nice if there were actually some crafts going on more than just a mention here and there, and oh yeah real plot with real believable characters.
Steps from Death (Craft Circle Mystery #1) Arts, Crafts and Murder (Craft Circle Mystery #2) A Finely Crafted Murder: A Craft Circle Cozy Mystery (Craft Circle Cozy Mysteries Book 3) Naked Eye {not sure where exactly this one fits in}
A Pie to Die for (Bakery Detectives #1) Donuts, Antiques and Murder (Bakery Detectives #2) Death by Chocolate Cake (Bakery Detectives #3) Bakery Detectives Cozy Mystery Boxed Set (Bakery Detectives #1-3) Bakery Detectives Cozy Mystery Boxed Set (Bakery Detectives #4-6) Bakery Detectives Cozy Mystery Boxed Set: Books 1-6 (Bakery Detectives #1-6) The Mud Pie Murderess (Bakery Detectives #6) Catering and Kidnapping (Bakery Detectives #7 The Pumpkin Killer: A Bakery Detectives Cozy Mystery Wined, Dined and Dead (Bakery Detectives, #9
Read the 3 box set that included A Pie to Die For, Donuts, Antiques and Murder, and Death by Chocolate Cake was a nice cozy collection, each a bit different, but pretty much a little of this that and the other mixed in with some crime so basically what I look for in a book of this type.I wrote this for the first 3 set. The second 3 set did not live up to things; sure there were here and there typo issues but since my computer is set up to 'read' to me that was not the issue.
The main character walks in to the kitchen of the resort where 2 people are talking about the actual chef/cook being missing, who is later found dead, and which the main character never gets to meet, yet knows that is who the dead body is, immediately.... They are supposed to be getting grand meals at the resort but because of the death of the chef, they aren't getting anything but toast in that one part, not even coffee, which they mention specifically, yet the main character is drinking coffee or else keeps picking up an empty cup, maybe, but who knows. And if the retreat just started that day and the one guy had come early he would have met the victim. Also someone can not 'drag' someone with that person being over their shoulder. A bowl full of salad will not knock itself off a table with the slamming of a door. If you're going to push a glass away in one sentence then go sit outside in the next, you should mention grabbing the drink when you next sentence is talking about sipping it again somehow.
Then in the second it continues on with one sentence mentioning they are on tiny seats then after she finds the body and returns and sits back down she is in a pew seat. Also what would be the big deal with helping the cop with the case, she was on payroll doing that in earlier books. And once you log out of facebook without having saved the log in details, you can't just log back in. Really, someone answers the door and you're right close by and you don't hear a female voice that's been the main topic of conversations or otherwise it took that long to walk like a couple or so feet to a door and then open it. and if they are in the kitchen leading to the back door there is no way you can push someone back in to the living room from there unless you are in an action movie.
The third one starts off just 'great'; no one in the food industry puts someone's scalded and unclean hand in a tub of ice cream, and then after it's over puts the tub back with only the thought of maybe it was melted too much. If something is painted a certain shade, use that and not change the word used for the shade color every other sentence. Who by the way doesn't notice 3 foot tall signs in the window of a small town small type street that you drive by every day on the way and back to where you work on that street. It also never explains why the main character felt nauseated, quesy, etcetera.
If I hadn't already borrowed the next couple of books wouldn't bother at this rate, but will, and those books better be better than this rather muddled attempt, which on the 3rd book I had the poisoner figured out way too close to the start. I had actually started to buy this set to go with the other 3 set, now am very glad I didn't.
for 7 I put These books are getting as bad as 'the cat who' books did, when I stopped reading them and gave them all away; the father is the dude who went back to italy because of his mother's health or something about well 3 books back but he's not even mentioned in the story this time, the writer has gotten worse and worse about putting characters in for like a book or 2 and then they just sorta disappear for a while or totally, like the assistant baker who is and isn't there and the friend/asst mgr but because of the pregnancy there is another asst mgr who is and isn't there, it's getting a bit ridiculous with those things not being in the story yet other unnecessary stuff is being put in to the story
This was by far the stupidest of them all; if one has a newborn in their arms how are they eating cake with a fork by themself, and then yet another 'love interest' for the main character when the other one is still around and nothing was ever said after his non-marriage and supposedly those 2 starting up again. Just another character to pop in and out of a story here and there with no real explanation. This series has definitely put me off cozies for a while, it's been more and more a waste of time, and wish could have given it a 0 star because even the 'twists' made no sense.
For 8 put Somebody give the writer some painting tips; in the last book she kept talking about paint fumes, so assuming whatever kind she is supposed to be using gives off fumes, which means that going back late at night to the house then up the next morning to paint...there is cleaning surfaces, probably primer, and at least 2 coats of paint, plus probably more if one is going from well each time she mentions a color it's a different shade and there is differences but basically going over to purple which in one place was described almost neon yet in another was a mid purple and in yet another more a pastel possibly is still going to take more than overnight to paint and dry plus it was an event the next day or else it was only mentioned way after it happened which wouldn't make sense because an eating place can't be open during that type of thing and the story is talking about all those birthday parties. What does conscious not but still pale even mean, which wouldn't have caught possibly with it being read to me, but the books are starting to be almost gibberish that am having to sight read because it's skipping around and not making any sense but even reading it is still that way because of the errors is now confusing as well. This was, by far, the stupidest most unnecessarily convoluted mess of a story.
9 had me banging my head for my stupidity of well maybe they got better
Thought liked the Craft Circle Cozy Mystery books a bit better, but after 3 out so far they went to just as bad as the bakery ones..
Rachael owns Rachael's Boutique Bakery in Belldale. She and her best friend Pippa do most of the baking & offer Coffee. Her friend decides to help the finances they need to do some catering. They get hired to do some work for a funeral. Rachael runs into an old close friend, Jackson Whitaker & he wants her to help cater his wedding to Emma Crawford. They are police Detectives in Belldale. While setting up the wedding cake & other baked goods they brought, Jackson invites them to the ceremony. They sit in the back row. An older woman next to her excuses herself to use the restroom. The Bride is already quite late. After a while Rachel asks the young man the lady was sitting that the woman he was with has been gone quite a while. She goes outside to the restroom & finds her not breathing on the floor. Turns out she was Emma's Aunt Cassie the young man Nephew Dylan. Detective Jackson Whitaker takes on the case, along with asking Rachael to assist. So much happens in the investigation & where is the missing bride Emma. Rachael starts fantasizing about Jackson, will there be a new love? If you enjoy cozy mysteries you'll like reading this book.
I actually really enjoyed this book. Out of the previous books, I'd say this was the best. I feel like Alabaster is really getting into her stride with this book. Rachel and Jackson grow into characters that we can connect with. They are much more three dimensional in this book than the previous ones. Jackson and Rachel spend quite a bit of time in this book, and it's almost reminiscent of the 2nd book but better. Though Emma, as a character, doesn't really make much of an appearance in this book, she is speaking about quite a bit. She gets more of a back story in this
The mystery this time was really interesting. As the case involves Emma's family, Jackson has to keep Rachel with him to leave the distance between him and the case. The case becomes very personal for them both, but Rachel manages to keep a level head during the course of the investigation.
I don't like a couple of things that happen between Jackson and Rachel throughout the book. It just seemed so out of character for the two… Ok maybe no out of character for Rachel as she's been pinning away after Jackson, but it is really out of character for Jackson.
This one is very easy reading and, yes, I finished it in one afternoon. Our gal Rachael and her best friend Pippa are still trying to run Rachael's bakery with very few customers, so Pippa thinks they should diversify and do catering on the side. So, of course, the first job they get is for a funeral. Rach doesn't like going wearing her work uniform, a hot pink blouse and white pants, thinking it makes the whole thing look tacky. She also wasn't expecting to run in to Jackson, the hot cop. Jackson asks about the side business, and hires her to cater his own wedding, taking place in two weeks. Rachael didn't even know he was engaged, so the whole idea made her spaz out and agree to do it. This one was fun and I recommend it.
Til a Death Do Us Part is book 5 in the enjoyable cozy series by Stacey Alabaster. This time around Rachael and her friend Pippa have decided to do some catering to help Rachael's Boutique Cakes make some money. After catering a funeral, they agree to cater Detective Jackson's wedding to his partner, Emma. Things don't go as planned, however, when Emma becomes a run away bride and her Aunt Cassie is found dead at the wedding. Even though things with Pippa and Marcello have been shakey, Rachael and Pippa have to do some detective work to find out what's going on. I like this mystery series. The books aren't long and the characters are fun to be around.
Jumped into this book, so there were relationships already formed, that I'm unaware of, cases solved that I haven't read, but one thing for sure, I had a hard time putting this book down. That doesn't happen often, and there wasn't anything actually compelling about it. It was your run of the mill, baker/sleuth & cop boyfriend formula, but, I just got caught up in the dynamics of it, somehow. She keeps you guessing, and only throws the actual perp into the mix towards the end. Enjoyed very much.
I LOVED IT, BUT I HAVE ENJOYED ALL OF THE COZY DETECTIVE MYSTERIES, STACEY ALABASTER IS A GREAT COZY MYSTERY WRITER, THIS BOOK WAS REALLY GOOD MOST TIMES I CAN GUESS WHO DID, THIS TIME I FOOLED TILL THE END GREAT BEACH READ
This was the best book so far out of the series. I really thought Emma was the murder but was wrong then guessed Emma had ran off with pippas husband wrong again
A cute bakery mystery. It is a good relaxing book that is trying to solve a murder. Didn't get much baking done but the mystery has been solved and not by me. I thought it was someone else that committed the crime.
This was my most anticipated book in the series and this kind of fulfilled all my expectations and so is my favourite out of the 5 books in the series I've read so far.
Rachael finally confesses her feelings for Jackson (what an odd thing to say to a man whose bride ran away on their wedding day!) So intriguing!! Because the question, that they need to find the bride and the murderer or are they both the same person kept popping into my mind throughout the story.
I was given a free advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. Another engrossing page turner by Stacey Alabaster. Baker Rachael is having trouble paying the bills at her bakery. Things are super slow there. Pippa her assistant and roommate gets them started on catering. Rachael is then asked to cater Detective Jackson's wedding. Rachael has always liked him and the wedding is in two weeks. She and Pippa may watch the actual ceremony. At the wedding there is a murder and a runaway bride. Of when Jackson asks Rachael agrees to partner up and helpsJackson solve another case. Pippa even lends a hand to help Rachael out the pieces together. This can be read as a stand alone. It is book Five of the Bakery Detectives Cozy Mystery Series. Stacey Alabaster is an incredible author in my opinion.
If you are new to the Bakery Detective series, let me introduce you to Rachael, owner operator of Rachael's Boutique Bakery and her assistant manager Pippa.
It is really slow at the bakery these days so Pippa suggests they branch out and try catering. Their first catering job is a funeral! Rachael's main worry seems to be their pink T shirt uniforms until she sees Jackson her former boyfriend who is one of the local police detectives. Jackson comes over and asks Rachael if they cater weddings. Then the unthinkable happens.....Jackson tells her the wedding is for him and Emma, his partner on the police force.
So the stage is set for the Bakery Detectives when dear old Aunt Cassie is found dead in the ladies room just before the wedding ceremony begins. Follow along to see what happens next.
This ebook was given to me by the publisher for an honest review.
I love the characters in this series, Rachael and Pippa are well developed and lovable. This story was so much fun as well as a great mystery. There were so many twists and turns, not only in the murder case, but in Rachael, Pippa, and Jackson's lives. So many surprises in this book made it very entertaining. I have received several of this author's books for free, but can't remember which ones, but it doesn't matter because I always give an honest review. I love her. I have the next in this series and will read it as soon as I finish the book that I started before my Kindle Fire update, what a mess. LOL
Could you be a last minute catering addition for someone you cared about? For “their” wedding? Rachael Robinson who owns, “Rachaels Boutique Cakes”, and her best friend Pippa McDonald cater Detective Emma Chambers and Detective Jackson Whitakers wedding. The girls didn’t even know the two were engaged.
The day arrives and to most it wasn’t the happiest.
Will Rachael and Jackson work together again? Will Pippa figure out what is wrong with her new husband, Marcello?
This is definitely one of the best in the series. It's an all around fun read with all the chaos at the wedding. Being that there are so many guests/suspects, readers may be guessing for a bit. Rachel & Pippa are their usual fantastic selves and continue to keep the series in its 4 star range. We get to know Jackson a bit better, too, and he's not as bad a guy as I thought he may be. I look forward to continuing the series. 'Til Death' is definitely a 4 star book.
Another great book by Stacey Alabaster. Rachael and Pippa have expended to the Catering field and their first event is the wedding of Police officer Jackson Whitaker and Emma Crawford. When Emma does not show up for the wedding and her Aunt Cassie is found dead in the restroom Rachael and Pippa assist Jackson in following the clues to find the Killer. Another great read with as surprise ending. A very enjoyable read.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
An older woman is strangled at Jackson's and Emma's big day. On Jackson's wedding day, someone murders Aunt Cassie. Rachel, who helps cater the affair, helps Jackson by working on the case with him. Your typical cozy!
The fifth book in this series and I have been enjoying them very much. The characters are very interesting and the story line flows. Starting on book six next.
Rachel and Pippa are worried about revenue at the Bakery. Pippa comes up with an idea to have them 'cater' funerals and weddings. Rachel being the owner is not too sure, however, she realizes that money is money.
The funeral goes off fine, excepting the loud pink shirts Pippa bought as uniforms. Rachel is chagrinned when her former boyfriend, policeman Jackson is at the ceremony and asks her to cater his wedding in two weeks. Needing the money, Rachel agrees with reservations.
The wedding date arrives and both girls are having romance issues. Pippa's husband, Marcello is staying out nights, and Rachel is 'heart-broken' over Jackson's wedding. The thing is...the bride doesn't appear, and her Auntie is found strangled at the venue.
Will there be a wedding? Will Rachel join with Jackson to solve the murder (Rachel loves to solve crimes) ? Why was Auntie killed?
This is a quick read but a fun read. A true cozy romance murder mystery. Enjoy!
