Examines the themes, concepts and theology of John in his gospel, his letters, and in Revelation. A superb analysis of the writings and theology of the books written by John Reymond also responds to the two modern theologies of Bultmann and Kaseman.
Dr. Reymond received his B.A., M.Div., and Ph.D. from Bob Jones University. He has in the past taught at BJU, Covenant Seminary, and Knox Theological Seminary, and pastored several different churches. He is currently serving as the organizing pastor for Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church (OPC).
Scan-read the first 52 pages to help me with exegesis for sermon preparation.
This reads like an extended set of boring exegetical notes delivered in the seminary classroom - which is exactly what these are (as you read in the preface). Lots of boring factual description - which I guess is the "survey" of the title. It could have massively benefited from a complete re-edit to turn it into something that flows as writing, and also a good dose of meta-level interpretation. A book full of exegetical factoids is not much help. One can read the text and summarise it for one's self, and (if you need to) you can work out the grammatical details of the original languages, but what does it mean? That's the real question. What is its significance? That's what was really missing in this book - and if it wasn't missing, it was buried in really tedious and boring writing.
Sorry, that was pretty brutal, but I gotta be honest. Just remember - my opinion doesn't matter much anyway! This may well be a far better book than I give it credit for. But, then again, it might not be...
