Nora Newberry is back with another intriguing mystery...
When a man confronts his ex-wife in Nora's newly-opened Madness Diner, Nora immediately comes to the woman's defense. Thankfully, after striking Nora and pulling a gun, the man is eventually apprehended and hauled off to jail. Once again, all is peaceful at the diner...until that night, when the news is received that the man has escaped!
Later, when the man's ex-wife is found murdered at the local ice-cream factory, no one doubts he is to blame. That is, until Nora's beau, Harvey, is arrested for the crime. It's no secret that Harvey and Sheriff Sean do not like each other and Nora is convinced that this bad blood has tainted the sheriff's viewpoint of the case. But when Nora springs into action in an attempt to clear her man's name, it seems that every new piece of evidence she finds supports the theory that Harvey is to blame!
Can Nora prove Harvey's innocence? Is he innocent? And, either way, will Sheriff Sean finally be able to put his nemesis away...for good???

I'm a mother, wife, homemaker, pet lover, teacher, student, reader, writer, drinker of tea & wine (depending on the time of day) and sleep-deprived dreamer. I live in Syracuse, NY, with my husband, Doug (also a writer with books available on Amazon), our three children and too many furred & feathered friends to list!
This is the fourth book in the Murder in Milburn series by Nancy McGovern.
Nora finally opens her diner with her friend, Tina. Thank goodness. That has been a long time coming… since book one.
This story is a bit convoluted but all the pieces are there to make a good read. I enjoyed the whole ice cream company dynamic and the new characters that were added or expanded upon. We got to see the mayor in a whole new light here which was nice.
The Sean and Harvey feud is still going strong and Harvey even gets put in jail as the primary suspect. Sometimes the disagreements between these two can be just too much for me. I wish the author would find a different way to bring tension to the story. I just feel sad that everyone is so angry all the time.
I will continue on but there are days when this story can trigger me when I am not in the most positive of moods.
If you love a good cozy mystery, check this one out. What a fun read!
Death by Ice Cream by Nancy McGovern is book 4 in the Murder in Milburn Mystery series. Nora has finally openned Madness Diner and breaks up an altercation between two diners, only to have Harvey shoot one while Nora is being threatened and the other is found dead in the Ice Cream factory. Nora seems to have a bit too high opinion of her sleuthing abilities, but the Sheriff Sean seems to have an intense dislike of Harvey and seems keen to pin anything on him. The mystery was interesting but obvious and a quick and easy read.
I received this book free in exchange for an honest review.
Nora Newberry and her friend, Tina are happily operating their diner. This has been a lifelong dream for Nora.
One afternoon, while Nora is waiting for her boyfriend, Harvey, to join her for lunch at the diner, the conversation between a large man and a young woman gets out of hand. When Nora tries to break it up (as the owner she feels responsible for keeping her patrons safe), she gets thrown across the room for her efforts. Luckily Harvey chose that time to walk in the door and downs the man with a well thrown pan.
During the confusion, the young woman, Tiffany disappears! What is going on? It appeared that Tiffany was trying to break up with Sergio (the large man), and he did not want to end the relationship.
A few days later, Tiffany is found dead, murdered. Her body is stuffed in a barrel at a local ice cream factory. Who could have done this? Who would want to do such a thing to a beautiful young woman?
When circumstances point to Harvey and he ends up in jail, though he is released a short time later. Then Nora and Harvey start digging into Tiffany’s past to find who might want her dead.
What they find is that many people had grudges. Who would chose such a method for murder? Who had access to the location and the materials? Who in his right mind would chose murder as a solution to their problem? Did it really solve anything?
This book is well written with lots of twists and turns, surprises and tense moments to keep the reader involved. The characters become friends while you are reading, and it’s hard to put the book down.
This is a great book; this is the fourth book in the A Murder In Milburn series written by Nancy McGovern. This book can be read as a standalone, but once you read this one you will want to go back and read the other books in this series. Nora has recently opened a diner called Madness Diner. When a man confronts his ex-wife in the diner, Nora comes to the woman’s defense. This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. This book will keep you reading long into the night. If you are looking for a great book, then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this great author.
This is another great book by Nancy McGovern. The fourth in the Milburn series and just as good as the first. Nora's Madness Diner has opened. And Nora and business is good. The murder strikes and her boyfriend Harvey is accused of being the killer. Nora, of course, decides to investigate even though both Harvey and Sean tell her to stay out of it.
I love the characters and the storylines keep getting better. Here is where I'm sure I differ with the rest of the readers. I can't stand the character of Harvey. To me the character comes off as an egotistical jerk and I was hoping he was the killer.
That being said there are a few surprises in the book, most being easy to spot, but it is still a great read and I can't wait for the next book. Even if Harvey is still there.
Where is Joe? Shouldn’t the question be “Who is Joe?” Sergio wants to find him, but none of the locals know who he is. Nora and Tina had finally made The Madness Diner happen. Simone and Bernard are ready to launch three new ice cream flavors. And Sergio still wants to know where Joe is. I know where Joe is because I followed the clues. You can do the same thing when you read this book. I received the book from the author to review and I still recommend it.
I've been debating this review for a few hours. The core mystery is solid. The who, the how, and the why isn't bad and seems plausible. It's the stuff around it. Little details here and there, or speeches given that, frankly, made me mad or simply made me shake my head. And let me tell you about typos and the wrong people having conversations all of a sudden. It feels very much like this was the first book written in the series, with no editor, no beta readers and definitely very little proofing. I can get by a typo or two. I can get over a person all of a sudden in a place or conversation they weren't previously a part of (i.e. person A and person B are talking, and the next line says a person C says something even though you know it was not a new person, but the author mistyped who was in the conversation) if it happens once or maybe even twice. But when it is in the majority of the story, I'm hard pressed to ignore it. So, while I did enjoy the base murder mystery, I have grown to hate Sean, as being arrogant and hypocritical. Yelling at Nora for not believing that her boyfriend is a killer simply because he was her boyfriend, while not 1 or 2 books back he did the EXACT same thing of his girlfriend. Claiming she didn't do it simply because "I know she's not the type to murder someone". And he is rude and talks down to Nora constantly. I wasn't exactly impressed with Nora this time around either. She seemed limp. Claiming to be non-judgmental, but judging people anyway in her head, constantly jumping to conclusions about those she claimed to care about, etc. And I'm not impressed with Harvey and his constant secret keeping. And excuses that it's all to keep Nora out of trouble or out of danger. Ugh.
I don't like leaving bad reviews, and fortunately, I don't have to do it often, but this book was a disappointment in quality. If the next book is not back to the authors previously good standard, I will be done with this series regardless of solid foundational mystery or not.
This was a great mystery. I enjoyed shifting through the red herrings to find the actual murderer with Nora. I must say though I think Nora should be in a relationship with Sean not Harvey. Harvey seems to be unstable.
I have been enjoying this series and hate that I'm almost at the end of it. The town of Milburn seems like a place I would like to make a long visit to.
Without a doubt, this book has things heating up even faster than I ever thought possible! Where is Nora, well, right where she always seems to be. Her nose right in middle it all. Harvey's doing his level best to protect her as usual. Will he be successful? Read this book and find out.
An ice cream shop with elegant flavors made with farm-fresh products. In Paris, they’re all about refined palates and eccentric flavors. But would they really consider roast beef ice cream?
Nora’s boyfriend, Harvey, for the woman’s death (her body was found at the ice cream factory.)
It’s up to Nora to prove his innocence.
Story still carries that same simple wit. A good mystery!
Book 4 in the A Murder In Milburn series written by Nancy McGovern. I have really been enjoying the character development in each of the books. But this series could be read out of order or as a stand alone book. On to book 5.
A good read but... The stories are getting more and more fanciful. Would be nice to return to a good whodunit. What has ice cream got to do with it? The characters are also moving away from their original values. Hope the next one is better.
Nancy McGovern always writes mysteries you don't want to put down. This is a good story with many twists and turns. There is mystery, suspense, love and friendship abounding in this story.
I chose this rating because once again Nancy McGovern has done herself in another really good clean cozy mystery that I would recommend to anyone. This story really had me guessing whodunit till the end. Thank you Nancy McGovern
I was reading and listening to Showtunes on my satellite television channels, and while I was singing and waltzing...I screamed out 'No Nora!' Now, besides scaring the fudge out of my husband and doggie, I was totally enthralled with the storyline.
Nora Newberry owns a diner in Milburn, Wyoming. It was her life's dream and finally after several episodes (volumes in this most excellent series,) she achieved it.
Her friend Simone turned her husband's dairy farm into a fantastic Ice Cream Brand. But, not is all roses. First, bodies appear and it is up to Nora to find the true killer as her beloved is found in truly compromising situations.
Nora, is a feisty one and thus, I became involved. I had had suspicions but, the twists and turns kept my interest to the last sentence. This is a good solid mystery series. Do give it a read and enjoy.
When Nora's boyfriend, Harvey, gets arrested for murdering an employee at the ice cream factory, she has no choice but to solve the murder. This book definitely had some twists. I was thinking I had it figured out when a twist was throw in and changed everything. Will definitely keep reading this series.
A very clever cozy mystery. I knew something was going on with a character but didn't know how it would tie in. It was done well. A good story and one sitting read. It's hard to review cozy mysteries without giving away stuff. I'd read more by this author.
