Kahlil Gibran

Kahlil Gibran (Arabic: جبران خليل جبران ) was a Lebanese-American artist, poet, and writer.
Born in the town of Bsharri in modern-day Lebanon (then part of Ottoman Mount Lebanon), as a young man he emigrated with his family to the United States where he studied art and began his literary career. In the Arab world, Gibran is regarded as a literary and political rebel. His romantic style was at the heart of a renaissance in modern Arabic literature, especially prose poetry, breaking away from the classical school. In Lebanon, he is still celebrated as a literary hero.
He is chiefly known in the English-speaking world for his 1923 book The Prophet, an early example of inspirational fiction including a series of philosophical essays written in poetic English prose. The book sold well despite a cool critical reception, gaining popularity in the 1930s and again, especially in the 1960s counterculture.
Gibran is the third best-selling poet of all time, behind Shakespeare and Lao-Tzu.

"The significance of a man is not in what he attains, but rather in what he longs to attain".

The Khalil Gibran Omnibus is an anthology of different poem's, novellas and other writings by Khalil Gibran, that illustrates the philosophical and literary prowess of Khalil Gibran.

I recall my grandfather once recommended that I read Khalil Gibrans work, but I had never heard of him nor did I know of him, but when I saw this book, I knew I had to get.
And after a long wait, I finally managed to read it, and it was surely worth it.
This book is not just one book, but many books, filled with many short stories that are definitely eye opening and thought provoking. Gibran is also a brilliant writer as his novellas were very heart touching and poignant. He is also a very skilled poet as much of his poetry is very creative and extraordinary.
One of my favourite's was a novella called 'Jesus the son of man' in which Gibran beautifully chronicles the life of Christ through various accounts of many people who lived during the time of Christ, and some who accompanied him on his journey.

This book exemplifies Gibran's extraordinary and outward understanding of the world and people. He seems to have a keen eye for any significant event in his life, and he somehow manages to extract a philosophical understanding of it, turning it into deeper learning. And that is why Khalil Gibran is brilliant in his writings, as it is not just observation, but learning through observation.

Khalil Gibran - American essayist, philosopher, poet and painter born in Lebanon in 1883. He blended elements of Eastern and Western mysticism and was greatly influenced by Blake and Neitzche. Although his sayings are neither crusades nor sermons, yet the thoughts conveyed are complete, clear and concise revealing Gibran as a Prophet of penetrating vision and objective understanding. Millions of followers today observe his writings with religious devotion and fervour, because his thoughts are ageless and realistic. This Omnibus edition, for the first time brings out 12 greatest works of Khalil Gibran comprising The Prophet, The Wanderer, Nymphs of the Valley, The Madman, The Broken Wings - to name a few.

A beautiful book for those who love Gibran.
