Three Regency Romance novellas by Josi S. Kilpack, Carla Kelly, and Jennifer Moore.
SAINTS AND SINNERS by Josi S. Kilpack. When Neville Franklin’s best friend Burke wants to wager who can kiss Eloise first, Neville puts a stop to it. Eloise has been his friend since childhood, and, well, she’s off-limits. Especially to Burke. As Burke pursues Eloise and claims that she has a tendre for him, Neville becomes more and more protective of the girl he grew up with. On the night of the Christmas ball when Eloise appears in a dress that clearly shows that she is no longer a girl, but a beautiful woman, Neville realizes that his protective feelings toward Eloise have turned into something greater. But now, Neville’s best friend stands in his way.
THE CHRISTMAS ANGLE by Carla Kelly. Sailing Master Able Six is on half-pay with the British navy, biding his time during the uneasy Peace of Amiens and the resumption of war. Meanwhile, he’s invited to teach young pupils at the home of a vicar outside of Plymouth. There, he unexpectedly meets Meridee, the spinster sister-in-law of the vicar. From the moment Able sees Meridee, he’s entranced. When she asks him about his past and discovers his remarkable yet troublesome gift, he realizes he’s finally found someone who can care for all of him. Sadly, Able’s low station and half-pay gives him no way to provide for a wife. Meridee’s lack of dowry and dependence on relatives makes their union impossible at best. But isn’t Christmas a season of hope?
THE PERFECT CHRISTMAS by Jennifer Moore. Archie Clawson wants nothing more than to give Jane the perfect Christmas. Since her troubled childhood, she’s not experienced a Christmas with all the trimmings. To top off the perfection, he also plans to ask her to marry him on Christmas Eve. But as he and his friends, including Jane, travel to his country home, they are caught in a snowstorm and discover that notice of their arrival did not get through to the house staff. Worried over the disappointment he must be causing Jane and the complete shift in their planned Christmas, Archie fears that he’s misinterpreted her kindness towards him and lost her favor forever.
I wrote my first book while on bed rest with my third child in 1998 and haven't stopped. My most recent books have been Historical Romance through the Proper Romance line with Shadow Mountain Publishing.
I currently live in Willard, Utah with my husband, and children.
This is the perfect way to kick off your holiday reading. This set of stories offer charming settings with likable characters and sweet romances. I’m a big fan of these novella sets, and this one was particularly good since all three authors are very accomplished and always deliver fun stories to escape into. I liked that the stories are a little longer than the usual Timeless Romance anthologies (although, I love those ones as well), so we really get some well-rounded and developed stories. Recommend to any historical romance fan and of course if you’re looking for a little Holiday cheer.
"Here is my keeper. She is lovely and kind and intelligent. Please help us."
Note: I just reread this book - not at Christmas time - and thoroughly enjoyed it again. (07/13/21)
Another note: I very much dislike the cover art for the audiobook. The bright red lipstick does not match my idea of Regency, and the other cover is just sooo pretty. (12/8/21)
A Country Christmas (2016, Mirror Press), fifth in the Timeless Regency Collection series, includes three Regency romance novellas, each by a different author. This is my favorite series from the Timeless line of books, and I devour them whenever I can acquire the audio books at a great price. I was very impressed by this particular trio of novellas. My husband liked it as well!
The audiobook version was narrated by Sarah Zimmerman, and she did very well indeed!
From the blurb: "When Neville Franklin’s best friend Burke wants to wager who can kiss Eloise first, Neville puts a stop to it. Eloise has been his friend since childhood, and, well, she’s off-limits. . . . "
I love the fact that even though Eloise had been interested in Neville for some time, she never previously allowed herself to entertain such ideas because her less advantaged female cousin also had an interest in him. (But now her cousin is safely married to someone else.)
I didn't love that In general, I really don't like that sort of a plot device, but I was okay-ish with it here.
When dining with Aunt Hannah, her aunt "related each course to some part of the Christmas story." I loved this concept but thought some of the examples were strange.
This is a story I was emotionally invested in. Well done, Ms. Kilpack!
------------------------------------------------
He had a strong suspicion that when he stepped from the dogcart, he would be at least four inches taller from all the praise piled on him by a lass who didn't cringe at his lower-than-low birth, his regrettable situation of half-pay, or his curly hair.
From the blurb: ". . . Sailing Master Able Six is on half-pay with the British navy. . . during the uneasy Peace of Amiens. . . Meanwhile, he’s invited to teach young pupils at the home of a vicar outside of Plymouth. There, he unexpectedly meets Meridee, the spinster sister-in-law of the vicar. . . . "
*The governess - or in this case, the tutor - finding love is a favorite trope of mine.
*Ms. Kelly has created a fascinating backstory for Able Six. He is so interesting and unique that I wonder whether the author based him on a real-life person.
A note about this author: Previously, I had sworn off Carla Kelly's stories due to one of her books, albeit a very good book, not being chaste. I was pretty upset that I accidentally read a book that didn't meet my own personal guidelines. As a result, I've made it a general rule not to bother reading authors for whom I must vet their book list to figure out which ones I'm willing to read. So I've built a list of authors that are "safe." However, I enjoyed this story so much that I'm considering making an exception for Ms. Kelly's books. I have to think about that a little bit more. I have to contend with the issue that I also really like to put my support behind authors who write exclusively chaste books.
At the end of this novella, there's a teaser indicating that Ms. Kelly does more with these characters. There are currently two books within a series, beginning with The Unlikely Master Genius. Apparently, that first book is chaste, but makes numerous mention of Hmm. It's hard to know how I would feel about it without reading it to see how the author treats the subject. (Brief edit (8/12/21): in going back to reread the previous two statements in my review - I'm just thinking, "TMI! I don't need to know this!) But the story in this collection was definitely very clean.
From the blurb: "Archie Clawson wants nothing more than to give Jane the perfect Christmas. . . he also plans to ask her to marry him on Christmas Eve. But as he and his friends, including Jane, travel to his country home, they are caught in a snowstorm and discover that notice of their arrival did not get through to the house staff. . . "
*Jane is treated with kid gloves by her family due to severe anxiety attacks she has had in the past. "While the others watched her carefully, babied her, and seemed as if they were just waiting for her to succumb to another attack, Archie was her friend. He'd never treated her as if she were mad.
*This is a house party story, another favorite trope of mine.
*I thoroughly enjoyed it with no reservations!
------------------------------------------------
Is it clean/chaste? Yep, of course! It's a Timeless collection!
Other content issues: I don't believe so, though there's a chance that I'm forgetting something.
The bottom line: A truly lovely Regency collection. I recommend this book to fans of historical romance, and certainly specifically to Timeless and Regency fans. I look forward to reading more books in this collection.
I love Regency and at this time of year, I love Christmas stories. When the two are blended, it makes me a happy girl. This collection gives the reader stories of hope, love, and Christmas magic.
I liked SAINTS AND SINNERS because Burke and Eloise are childhood friends and he suddenly realizes that she's a woman...and an attractive one at that. When his womanizing friend wants to pursue her, he's not happy about that, but he's very awkward around Eloise and doesn't convey his feelings and intentions well. Perfectly imperfect heroes are the best! This couple has a reluctant chemistry and through a series of misunderstandings, a fragile outcome results and it's a lot of fun.
THE CHRISTMAS ANGLE is a sweet story about overcoming prejudice and pasts. Able and Meridee have a unique connection and are each willing to forgo societal expectations to chase their dreams. I loved watching Able blossom and Meridee's personality and strength shine through. The little students/nephews are adorable and the teaching moments are precious.
Archie is a one-of-a-kind man, who is able to look past labels and see the true heart of Jane. THE PERFECT CHRISTMAS shows how believing in someone can boost confidence and allow for a wonderful arrangement. When a misunderstanding leaves a Christmas party without a place to stay, this accommodating group makes the best of their situation and enjoys a Christmas that they'll each always remember, especially Jane. I love the believable relationship and the flawed characters as they work through different issues of trust and health.
Each story is very enjoyable and a great holiday read.
Content: some mild talk of religious things; mild romance.
*I received a copy with no obligation to review. All thoughts are my own.*
Overall this was a well-written collection of sweet Christmas stories.
1) Saints and Sinners by Josi S. Kilpack I loved this one! Neville has returned home for Christmas and has spent some time with his childhood friend, Eloise. It isn't until his friend suggests a wager to see who can kiss Eloise first that Neville realizes he has deeper feelings for her.
2) The Christmas Angle by Carla Kelly It took me a while to get into this one, but I really liked it once I did. Able Six has had a tough life, but he is so patient and kind. He is a genius and it isn't until he finds Meridee that he realizes there may be someone out there who understands him. I loved how he interacted with Meridee and her young nephews (who he was hired to tutor).
3) The Perfect Christmas by Jennifer Moore This was a sweet Christmas story; the pacing was a little slow at times, but it was well-written with very likable characters. Archibald (Archie) is determined to show Jane (the younger sister of his best friend's wife -- I think I got that right) a perfect Christmas. Everything seems to go wrong, but in the end it all ends up right!
Content: Clean Source: Review copy (opinion is 100% my own)
This book containing three novellas is perfect for the fast approaching Christmas season. All three of these books are gentle in nature and bring a spirit of hope and love.
My favorite was the first novella by Josi Kilpack. It drew me in right away and made me smile. Neville is a bit dense but he eventually comes around. His bumbling was quite amusing to me.
Carla Kelly's book wasn't my favorite. It lacked the emotional connection for me and felt very matter of fact and straight forward. It didn't quite have that country Christmas feeling that the other two did.
Jennifer Moore's story brings all the feelings of a perfect, classic country Christmas to the front. It took me a bit to get into the story and the characters but by the end, I loved it. It reminded me that it really can be the simple things that make things special. Especially if you are with the people you care about most.
Content: The Christmas Angle had some mild swearing. Otherwise the books are clean.
- I received a copy of this book from the publisher. A favorable review was not required and all opinions expressed here are my own.
I'm getting so excited for Christmas time. Not necessarily all the commercialization of Christmas but the spirit of Christmas. I love that time of year because everything seems brighter and happier and there is more giving(not really the gift giving, but the giving of one's time and thoughtfulness) and love. Maybe it's also brighter and happier for me because I'm a very naturally optimistic person, or maybe because I'm giving more of myself and more thoughtful to those around me. Either way, or a combination of the two, I love Christmas time. I love the cold outside(ok I prefer the warmer weather) that causes the snuggling and warm cider/chocolate drinks, the nummy smells of baked goods(especially anything apple or pumpkin-YUM)! I love the sweet holiday movies. I LOVE CHRISTMAS MUSIC!!!!!!!!! I love all the extra time spent and focused on family and friends. I love the beauty of the world outside covered in snow. I love the twinkling lights shining and reflecting off the snow. It's just such a beautiful time of year and brings an almost euphoric feeling to my life. I love watching my children, and the joy and magic that they feel at Christmas time. All these things and so many more combine to make it a beautiful and treasured time of year for me and my family.
With all my thoughts and love of the Christmas season, it's little wonder that I've started picking up several christmas books to read and review. Yes I have gotten the books as review books but I still choose whether or not I'm going to read them and when. And yes I chose to read them now. My pre-Christmas season. ;-)
I enjoyed the country settings of these three novellas. This collection we get three longer novellas and from three authors that I enjoy lots!
The first two novellas were fun and enjoyable but I have to say that the last one, "The Perfect Christmas" by Jennifer Moore(ok I just wrote my review for her book Lady Helen Finds Her Song and raved about how much I LOVE her books and am never disappointed) was 5 stars++++. It was so good.
Our main couples in these three novellas are Neville and Eloise, Able and Meridee, Archie and Jane. One couple was a new acquaintance, another couple had known each other for several years and the other couple had known each other from childhood. Each couple had their ups and downs and sweet romances. They each had to come to the moment of declaring their feelings and hoping and wishing that the other would reciprocate the love that was starting to grow within their hearts, or that had been within their hearts for years. Many moments of miscommunication, frustration and even some anger or hurt. There are many moments of laughter, dancing, sledding, snowball fights, fires, long talks, mistletoe, stolen kisses, sweet kisses, learning, teaching, healing, letting go and love.
If you are ready to start getting in the mood for the Christmas season grab this book now and enjoy. Or grab it now and save it until Christmas draws closer and when you start to enjoy the Christmas season.
I would say these are all very chaste and sweet clean romances and would recommend for any reader old enough to enjoy a country christmas story.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Three of my favorite authors really hit a home run with this collection of sweet Christmas romances! I read each one at the end of a long and tiring day, and was completely transported and uplifted. In the first story I loved Eloise and her conflict between attracting Neville without attracting others necessarily. He's a bit of an idiot, but a likeable one, especially when he admits the reason for his jealousy and fumbles his opportunities for "helping" Eloise :) The second story was classic Carla Kelly, I just love her writing style and tone- it's so unique in the Regency genre. I enjoyed the sweetness that quickly develops between Able and Meridee, and was fascinated by his background and journey. The last story was one I found interesting as well because of the aspect of mental illness and how it was handled during that period in history. Jane had some deeply troubling times in her past which are only vaguely referred to, and the author chose to focus more on her current situation of now having the support of caring family. The dynamic between her and Archie is tender and they both learn more about each other and making the best of things when the perfect holiday doesn't go quite as planned. I loved all these stories equally and I will definitely be re-reading this collection in the future. Highly recommend!
(I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher; all opinions in this review are my own)
This is an absolutely wonderful anthology of 3 novellas set in Xmas in the country. Nothing better!
Saints and Sinners by Josi S Kilpack This is a childhood friends to lovers story. Eloise has known herself to be in love with her childhood playmate and friend, Neville for some years. When he returns home after several years travelling abroad, she is all grown up and a radiantly beautiful woman a fact that he only starts becoming cognizant of when his house guest and friend misinterprets Eloise's behaviour as attraction to him. I liked that the heroine was sensible and she doesn’t try to seduce the hero or play the coquette but to sincerely deepen their connection and friendship. The story is a slight comedy of errors with Neville's friend, Burke thinking that Eloise is trying to get his attention but in telling Neville so, opens Neville's eyes to his true feelings towards Eloise. Neville selflessly, in turn does his best in helping that 'romance'. Very well written, touching in many places & very sweet.
The Christmas Angle by Carla Kelly If nothing else I would have bought this book for this story alone. I love this author's writing & this story - as are all her others - was truly breathtaking in it's poignancy. Able Six was found on the steps of a church as a newborn baby. His early years were spent in a workhouse, at at the age of 9, joins the Navy. After the capture of his ship & being held in a French prison, he manages to escape together with 3 fellow prisoners only to find himself on half pay with Britain and France at a truce. When offered the temporary position to tutor 2 young boys for a month, Able willingly heads up to the country to take up the position where he meets his charges Aunt Meridee. I felt so much for the Able and Meridee, their swift connection and seemingly insurmountable challenges. Able is a total genius with a photographic memory and endless capacity for learning. "He sees something once or reads it once and he never forgets". Brought up with absolutely no advantages, Able is the most amazing of men, both in his brilliance and his compassion. Meridee is his perfect foil. His tutoring methods was nothing short of sheer brilliance; coaxing the older boy to confidence while never holding the (quicker) younger one back. I would have loved to have a teacher like him. This was such an amazing story. Nothing I say could do it justice.
The Perfect Christmas by Jennifer Moore Archie, Lord Simmons has the perfect plan "his Grand Christmas Scheme" of how his holidays will be spent together with his closest friends and culminating in his winning the hand of the gentle, shy woman he has come to love - the younger sister of his best friend. But as all best laid plans are wont to do, it goes awry & the party of 5 find themselves stranded in his country estate with all his servants having been dismissed for the holiday season and end up instead spending Christmas in the simple setting of the small, gardener's cottage.
Absolutely the best in this series of novellas that I've read to date. The 3 stories were very well written with an amazing poignancy & well developed characters. Highly recommended!
Ready to read some fantastic Christmas stories? If so, this is a great one to put on your list!
This anthology contains three novellas set during the Regency period. Each is unique and feature romance during the Christmas holiday. The books are as different as can be and carry the distinctive voice of the writers.
Josi Kilpack's Saints and Sinners tests the bonds of friendship. Neville is very protective of his childhood friend, Eloise. When his best friend makes a play for her, he comes to realize why he is protective and what he will do for her. The story is full of humor and sweet romance.
Carla Kelly has always been a favorite author of mine. I love her writing voice. She tells the story with whit and charm. The Christmas Angle is not your typical regency romance. It is the story of two people who are not part of the gentry falling in love. Able is a man who would be considered socially challenged, he has a gift that is not typical and he stands out because of it. He meets his perfect match and "keeper" when he meets Meridee.
I think I have met the characters in The Perfect Christmas before. The back story is so familiar, but I can't remember where it came from. It is another bumbling story of a wonderful man trying to create the perfect Christmas, but everything goes wrong. It becomes the perfect Christmas because things did not go as planned. It is a sweet story full of sacrifice and love.
I enjoyed every story in this anthology. As always, I look forward to any and all Timeless Romance Anthologies. This collection will make your heart happy and help you feel the Christmas spirit.
I only read this book for the story by Carla Kelly, The Christmas Angle. I'm starting Kelly's new book (and series) The Unlikely Master Genius, and this story is the prequel. Although the story was only about 100 pages, it was sublime. Carla Kelly's stories - novels and novellas - usually are. I always savor them as I read, and then immediately re-read them.
I did not read the other two stories in the book.
Update 5/31/20: I just reread this novella, and it was just as good as I remembered (I hate being disappointed when books I reread aren't as good the second time around). I'm looking forward to rereading The Unlikely Master Genius next. And then on to the newest book in the series, The Unlikely Spy Catchers, which I haven't read yet. What an especial treat in social isolation, a new book by Carla Kelly.
I loved this book! It’s another great addition to the Timeless Regency Collection. It includes three novellas by three great authors. I enjoyed all of them!
Saints and Sinners by Josi S. Kilpack
Neville has never thought of Eloise as anything but a childhood playmate, until his friend asks if she is eligible. Neville immediately feels protective of Eloise, but maybe those feelings are something more.
Poor Eloise! I really felt for her. Neville couldn’t seem to get his heart and head to line up, and she was the one that bore the consequences. At times, I had to just laugh and roll my eyes at him. I loved both characters and really wanted to see Neville come to his senses so they could have their happy ending.
If you’ve read Autumn Masquerade, then you will recognize Eloise and Neville as characters from Josi Kilpack’s contribution to that collection.
The Christmas Angle by Carla Kelly
Sailing Master Able Six is on land, living on half-pay until the tentative peace ends and he can get back to sea. Needing funds, he accepts the offer to teach a country vicar’s sons for a month. He is immediately drawn to the vicar’s sister-in-law. With his low station in life, and inevitable return to sea, he has no hope of making her his wife.
I loved Meridee! I loved her instinctual understanding of Able. It was wonderful to see him open up to her. It’s amazing what being accepted completely can do for someone, and what strength love can give a person.
The Perfect Christmas by Jennifer Moore
Archie is determined to give Jane the perfect Christmas, including proposing to her on Christmas Eve. When he arrives at his country estate with his friends, they find that word of their arrival was not received, and all of the staff has been sent home for Christmas. Forced to spend Christmas in a cottage on the grounds, Archie is sure he has ruined Christmas for his friends.
I loved this story! It left me with such a good feeling inside. I really admired Jane. She seemed vulnerable, yet was brave and strong. Archie was such a good man. His love for Jane was so sweet and pure. I loved all of the characters! It was great to see the little things that each did to bring meaning to the holiday. I especially enjoyed Mother Kathleen and her ability to let go and help everyone relax. It really did end up being a perfect Christmas!
If you’ve read Spring in Hyde Park, you will recognize the characters from Jennifer Moore’s contribution to that collection.
I received a complimentary copy of the book. I have given my honest opinion.
This a great collection. I have included a review of 2 of the stories here:
Saints and Sinners
What a great story! Masterfully written. The pacing is excellent, the language mature and flowing. This is a fast-paced read, charming. Childhood friends who don't realize their mutual feelings for each other until someone else interferes - and brings them to face reality. Excellent. 5 stars!
The Christmas Angle
Intriguing story! Able Six has lived a hard life (think Oliver Twist). He never knew anything about his mother, not even her full name, and it was assumed she died immediately after giving birth to him in an alley. He is a resilient man, however. He managed to escape a French prison (he'd been captured from a ship and imprisoned) and to help others escape as well. He is also a brilliant man, capable of retaining enormous amounts of information in memory. He lives simply, only managing to have enough to stay alive. When a friend offers him a job teaching arithmetic to some young boys for a meager salary and room and board, he accepts. The sister of the family he will be working for is beautiful and sweet and he is completely intrigued by her. Besides, she shows him no ill-will, no prejudice whatsoever, no condescension of his past (or lack of) upbringing. "He had a strong suspicion that when he stepped from the dogcart, he would be at least four inches taller from all the praise piled upon him by a lass who didn’t cringe at his lower-than-low birth, his regrettable situation of half-pay, or his curly hair." Could she be the first person to ever show him love? A very moving story. Excellent. 5 stars!
I liked the first one, Saints and Sinners, and how awkward Neville and Eloise were in their attempts to get each other's attention. In the end, love prevailed, even if at the cost of bruised egos.
The Christmas Angle was a cute story of another love that prevailed despite Able and Meridee's impoverished circumstances. I always have a hard time with this author's voice and tone, and her writing is not my favorite.
The last story, The Perfect Christmas, tells of Archie' plans for having a perfect party and a perfect proposal to Jane, and how things actually turn out.
The stories read fast and I recommend them to fans of Regency romance.
I received a free ebook in exchange for an honest review.
Just ten more days to go before Christmas. Weeeee! Are you excited? What are your plans for the holidays? How do you wish to spend it?
This book is about spending Christmas. There are three stories which are all really good ones. My favorite would be the second one by Carla Kelly --The Christmas Angle. Here are the stories included in this country Christmas collection.
Saints and Sinners by Josi Kilpack The Christmas Angle by Carla Kelly The Perfect Christmas by Jennifer Moore
These three stories are all sweet and warm which make me want to fall in love this Christmas and all Christmases to come. The stories promise a cheerful and more meaningful holidays if they are spent with loved ones.
I enjoyed The Christmas Angle best because it was a story made more interesting by its characters. I love Master Six. I wish I had his photographic memory, too. Can I wish that this Christmas? If I had a photographic memory, I think it would make things easier for me. I do have a sharp memory but it would be a very impressive ability if it would allow me to read a book in just minutes instead of hours or days. I think, I would have no problem going through my TBR pile. Aside from that, it would also allow me to try to do something else like pursuing a different career which would pave the way for me to really fulfill my passions. Oh, how amazing that would be? Another thing why I find this story very engaging was how arithmetic was shown that it could be a fun and an easy subject to learn if taught by a very creative and talented teacher. If I were to teach Math, I wish I could make it appear as enjoyable and as easy as playing pickup sticks.
The other two stories have their own lessons to give also. The Saints and Sinners story proclaims that the best foundation for a good relationship or marriage is friendship. Yes, I know, everyone seems to already know this. It's not new but it is still good not to forget that some of the best and successful marriages are based on friendships. The Perfect Christmas tells us that the spirit of the holiday season is not in the trappings, decorations, the expensive food and the new clothes but the warm, generous and loving company we spend it with. The food may be simple but the love of the family and close friends will make us full.
I give the book 4/5 beautiful Christmas trees. Hope we may all remember the real reason for the season -the season of giving and forgiving. Merry Christmas!
...the worthy poor. ...what constituted the unworthy poor. The poor are poor, and worth has nothing to do with it. They have hopes and dreams, too. I know they do, because I am one of them. - Carla Kelly, The Christmas Angle -
Thank you again, Kathy of ebooksforreview.com, for the copy.
This was a great read to get me in the Holiday spirit. It got me listening to Christmas songs and thinking of the holiday traditions I have.
Saints and Sinners by Josi S. Kilpack When Neville Franklin returns from the colonies to be home for Christmas, he doesn't really think about his childhood friend, Elise, until his friend, Henry Burke, suggests a bet about who can kiss her first. He refuses to make her part of a bet, but that doesn't stop Burke from pursuing her with dogged determination. I loved watching Neville squirm as he tried to figure out his feelings for Elise, and repeatedly stuck his foot in his mouth. This was a great comedy of errors. It was also refreshing to see a gentleman not willing to make a bet in a Regency novel!
Christmas Angle by Carla Kelly This was the story about a sailing master, Able Six, who is out of work while the country is at peace. He takes a temporary job as a tutor to two boys. In the process he meets their beautiful and lively aunt, Miss Meridee Bonfort. This is a story that my husband would approve of. It wasn't all drawing rooms and the upper class. It felt a little more like Charles Dickens, with real characters from different walks of life with different skills and struggles. I loved Meridee and her spunk, especially at the end of the story. She was a character to root for!
The Perfect Christmas by Jennifer Moore This was my favorite story in the collection! Archibald (Lord Symons) invites his closest friends to his country estate for Christmas. He hopes to help them in their grief for the loss of the patriarch of their family, but he also wants to use this opportunity to court his friend's sister-in-law, Jane.
From the start, nothing seems to go to Archibald's plan. The more he tries to make a perfect Christmas, the more things go wrong, until he realizes that the people around him are making it perfect.
Jane was a great character. She had some struggles in the past that resulted in everyone trying to protect her. It was great in such a short story to see her coming into herself, and asserting her own independence. I also liked how Archibald wanted to take care of her, but also recognized her need to prove herself.
It was a very sweet story, full of funny moments, and the things that truly make Christmas.
Content: clean (some kissing, no language) Disclosure: I received a free copy of this book through the publisher, in exchange for an honest review.
I was very excited for this collection of stories. The three authors of these stories are some of my favorite authors. The first story Saints and Sinners is about Neville and his good friend Eloise. Neville only sees Eloise as his childhood playmate. He has not noticed she has grown into a beautiful and poised woman. He just thinks that he likes to have her around because he enjoys her company. Eloise is very much in love with Neville and is trying to get him to notice her. Burke, Neville's friend, has definitely noticed Eloise. When Burke starts to pursue Eloise, Neville discovers thathe is not happy about it. Will Neville open his eyes to the possibility that Eloise is so much more than a childhood friend? The Christmas Angle was my favorite. I really liked all three stories but I loved Christmas Angle. Carla Kelly creates characters that are so unique but so real that once you start reading you can't put the book down. Master Able Six is just surviving on half pay until war starts again and he is back on the seas with the Royal Navy. Then an opportunity comes to earn some money teaching 2 young boys. Able takes the opportunity and while tutoring the young boys he meets their aunt Meridee. Able can't take his eyes off Meridee when he meets her. Able has a special ability of remembering everything he reads and sees. Meridee discovers this ability and encourages Able. Meridee and Able are from different social classes. Will they be able to find a way for them to be together? The last story The Perfect Christmas brings back characters the reader has meet before in Spring in Hyde Park collection. Jonathan and Maryann find love in A Happy Accident. The Perfect Christmas is 9 months later and Archy,Jonathan's friend, is trying to plan the perfect Christmas because Jonathan and his mother are still mourning the loss of Jonathan's father and Jane,Maryann's sister, has not experienced a good Christmas in years. Archy has fallen in love with Jane and wants to propose to her after he gives her the perfect Christmas. The events leading up to Christmas don't turn out how Archy has planned but they are exactly what the group needed. Will it be a perfect Christmas after all? I read these stories in one day because I could not put the book down. If you enjoy a good Christmas story and love the regency era this book is a must!
I enjoyed these three stories by very talented authors. I read this book in October and it made me so excited for Christmas! There is something so magical about Christmas. And with these stories, Christmas can be very romantic as well.
I have read several books by all of these authors, and I was thankful to read this collection.
I think my favorite story was "Saints and Sinners," by Josi Kilpack. Every young women wants to feel beautiful and admired. Our heroine wants to feel grown up and beautiful around her long-time friend and love, Neville. Neville has only seen Eloise as a friend, and a child. For a Christmas ball, she comes out wearing a dress that clearing shows that she is a woman. There is some miscommunication and hurt feelings, but they are eventually resolved and we get our happily ever after.
All three of these short stories are predictable, but very fun and light-hearted. And clean. They all have a great kiss and a happily-ever-after.
If you are looking for some short stories that you can squeeze in during the holiday madness, I recommend this collection.

A Country Christmas is a collection of three novellas by three of my must read authors. These novellas include: Saints and Sinners by Josi Kilpack The Christmas Angel by Carla Kelly The Perfect Christmas by Jennifer Moore This is a fabulous addition for anyone's Christmas reading. Great clean romances. Loved it! 100 stars
These stories tugged at my heartstrings. Each novella tackled plausible misunderstandings that had the potential to rob the main characters of worthy love matches. I recommend getting some warm cider or cocoa to curl up with as you read through this book.
What a great set of Christmas stories! These stories were very heartwarming and put me in a mood for Christmas. The stories were tasteful and romantic and I look forward to more books from these authors.
My favorite novella was "The Perfect Christmas" by Jennifer Moore (4 stars), followed by "Saints and Sinners" by Josi S. Kilpack (3 stars). "The Christmas Angle" by Carla Kelly didn’t really hold my interest. It was just okay (2 stars).
