When a family secret is dramatically exposed, a young woman entering adulthood is introduced to a strange and unknown destiny. Having been raised to believe she was the only child of her rather meek and mild parents, Stella and Rocco, Max is told on her 18th birthday that her quiet, normal existence isn't at all what she's been taught to believe. Stella isn't Max's biological mother, but a loyal submissive to a powerful Dominatrix, Sumera, who was assigned to raise Max with Rocco, Sumera's husband, and #1 sub. Once the heavy truth is revealed, Max learns that the time has come for Rocco and Stella to bring her to meet her "real" mother, Sumera, and leave behind everything she knows in favor of moving into the family estate, which is also a private, discerning BDSM retreat. Max's natural reluctance to accept the truth and embrace a stranger as her mother leads to a dramatic situation as Sumera's well-crafted plan to reunite with her daughter is jeopardized by teen angst and rebellion. Will Max accept her her destined place in the kinky empire? Or, will her whirlwind of emotions cause insurmountable chaos?

At Mother's Command by Kay Brandt is an erotic introduction to this wonderful series.
Max just turned eighteen years old, and learned that her Mother is not actually her biological Mother. Her parents whisk her away to a giant castle where she learns that her destiny is very sexual in nature. Her Mother, Sumera, is a powerful Dominatrix who runs a very sexual resort where adults can sneak away and explore their fantasies.
This book focuses on Max's introduction to the world and some of the sexual deviancy going on behind the doors of the castle. It ends on a cliffhanger which made me very happy that I had the second book, but would have totally frustrated me as a reader if I didn't have it. One thing I'm curious about is if Max will accept her role in this story or not... It seems like it can go either way at this point. I'm sure she will eventually be exploring her sexuality. The poor girl is basically being held hostage!
If you're into BDSM novels, especially books with doms and subs, than this quickie erotic read will be perfect for you. It's very hot and very dirty, exactly as a good erotica should be.
Four out of five stars.
Thank you to Kay Brandt for sending me a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is a much different story than anything I’ve read by Kay Brandt before. I enjoyed it an am definitely looking forward to what happens next in the story.
It’s Max’s 18th birthday and her parents drop a huge bombshell on her. Her whole life is about to change, and the people she’s come to know and love as her parents, will become completely different people in her life. Max’s birth mother is a Dominatrix, and Max’s “parents” are her submissives. Max isn’t sure how she feels or what she believes, but knows that she still feels like Stella is her mother. Not this stranger with the black hair and red lipstick.
Sumera, Max’s birth mother, was hoping for an easier transition into being Max’s mother. She didn’t anticipate so much push and refusal from Max. How is she going to react if her daughter doesn’t want to continue with her legacy?
I really enjoyed the story of Max and her parents. I would’ve enjoyed even more of their story throughout this novella. For being so short, and for being a story about Max, I was really surprised to get two other stories within that weren’t about Max at all, but rather about “guests” at Sumera’s BDSM estate. I honestly spaced out a little during these scenes as I didn’t have any emotional connection to those characters, and was too concerned over Max and what she was going through to care as much about the other players in the story that weren’t directly connected to Max’s story. I hope that as the series goes on we get more about these side-characters and get to see a connection between their stories and the story of Max. Besides the connection that these people are staying at Sumera’s house.
The only reason I gave this 3 stars only was because of the sudden switches from Max’s story to the apparently unrelated side stories of the guests. I was just too invested in Max and her story specifically. Given how this installment ended, however, I will definitely look forward to finding out what happens next. There are so many emotions with Max, her parents, and her birth mother, Sumera. I’m looking forward to seeing their growth and character development.
I received a copy of this story for free from the author, in exchange for my honest review.
Kay Brandt puts a whole new, adult slant on that childhood game, “Mother May I?” with AT MOTHER’S COMMAND.
Imagine finding out on your eighteenth birthday, the life you lived was a carefully orchestrated lie. Max was to discover that her mother was not her birth mother, but she was soon to meet her. Little does Max know what is behind this gut-wrenching shift in her reality, her birth mother is a Dominatrix, her birth father and the woman she grew up believing was her mother are submissives. Clearly, for as much control over others that Sumera had, this young woman, her own daughter wouldn’t fall into her arms or even acknowledge their relationship. Pretty sure that will make her plans to bring Max into the “fold” a little difficult, if not impossible.
I’m not sure how I feel about this erotic tale. On one hand, Ms. Brandt has taken a fascinating angle on “birth reveals,” while on the other, I can’t help but wonder what fantasy Sumera has told herself and her subs, that makes this grand farce seem okay.
Kay Brandt does know how to write, she can develop a story and manages to leave the main thread just as we reach the top of the roller coaster, waiting for the big plunge as we are introduced to other characters, each guests at the special retreat. That shift was a little abrupt for me, heck I was still deep into Max, Rocco, Stella and Sumera’s story. Ms. Brandt does have a sensual touch with her words, making each “scene” fitting for the characters. Definitely written in an erotic manner, I just wanted more balance in the plight that Max finds herself in, and I may have wanted to sit Sumera down and have a very long talk with her… and she wouldn’t have permission to talk until I was finished! Adults and children are allowed separate lives. Adults are allowed to keep “adult” things private, it doesn’t require pawning a child off on two people to live a lie, wouldn’t think a true Dominatrix would need to do that. So, yes, Kay Brandt can write, she did get me all involved, but it was Max that had me hook, line and sinker.
I am voluntarily reviewing this complimentary copy from Kay Brandt.

At Mother's Command may very well be the most intriguing opening to a fetish-themed story that I have ever read. Kay Brandt has really stepped outside the normal confines of the genre to explore the real-world implications (and consequences) of a BDSM lifestyle.
It all begins, rather oddly, with a young woman approaching her 18th birthday. Although it is clear her parents love her, their relationship seems rather cold and distant, with absolutely no displays of affection between them. She worries that they are headed for a divorce, but the truth of the situation is something for which she cannot possibly prepare herself.
The story is something of a dark twist on the fairy tale themes of adoption and secret legacies - only Max's mother isn't a Queen, she is a Grand Dominatrix . . . and her parents are not 'normal' surrogates trusted to raise her, they are lifestyle submissives entrusted with their Mistress' child. As you can expect, there is a lot of heavy emotional turmoil here, complete with all the fears, sense of betrayal, and uncertainty you would expect.
That is only half the story, however. The other half takes place in Sumera's private BDSM retreat, where Stella and Rocco are free to resume their submission, while slowly introducing Max into this strange new world of collars, leashes, and commands. It is something of a guilty pleasure to be enjoying the erotic aspects with all of that background turmoil, and it definitely feels strange to take such voyeuristic pleasure in Sumera's sexual dominance, knowing her daughter is huddled a on the other side of the mansion, feeling scared and betrayed, but Brandt juggles it all perfectly. In fact, I would say the relationships in this story are exquisite, with the overlapping of worlds awkwardly fascinating, while the erotic aspects are quite sumptuous.
All those contrasts do come a head in the end, leading to an unexpected confrontation that really opens the next chapter to ever deeper, more intricate emotional complexities.
I was intrigued from beginning to end. This is a fast paced steamy read. Max’s world is shattered with she finds out on her 18th birthday that the woman she thought was her mother is not. Her biological mother is Sumera a Dominatrix who runs a private retreat. Will Max accept her new mother and the plans she has for her? Be advised this does end in a cliff hanger and I can’t wait to read it! The story has plenty of drama and is very hot! I loved it!
My introduction to BDSM erotica. I'm hooked, Thanks Kay Brandt!
Don't want to give anything away, but I hope I encourage you to check it out. The first half of the story laid out the characters. Their roles/relationships changed during this time. The sex came in the second half. There were different combinations of Masters/Subs The descriptions were deliciously explicit. I had to read several of them over, and over, to make sure I really understood what was being done. I've never experienced anything like this, so the idea that this was pleasure for these people...
Well that's what I had to wrap my head around. But reading the story, it was easy to feel the arousal of both Masters & Subs The building of the sexual pleasure. The wanting of sexual release. And of course the final throws of orgiastic pleasure. In the end it was very arousing with the explicit descriptions of the sex. The story does not end with this book. There is a sequel, to find out what happens to these characters.
Guess I'll have to get that one too. Can't leave these characters hanging like that
"At Mother's Command" was well written by the talented Erotic writer Kay Brandt she caught my attention form the start but drew me in deeper. Story starts building upon a base that then explodes into a complex scenario between Rocco, Stella, Maxina and Sumera. Then side deluges into the lives of other Domme/sub relationships. The story includes amazing sexual encounters while building concrete characters. Very entertaining, sexy, sensual, kinky, hot and sexual while being complex and compassionate filled with passion, love and complex parental bonds.
Was caught by the title, brought into the story of Rocco, Stella and soon to be 18 year old Maxina. Surprised but intrigued by the direction of the story line. Drawn into Mistress Sumera's world, her resort/home. Caught by the Domme/Sub world of pleasure and pain. Where will Story two take us for Story one took me to highest heights of pleasure both emotional, physical and soulful. Where will Maxina fit into her "Mother's" world? Will Mommy M contract with Roan? Will Neil move forward to learn more from Cas? A complex world with a complexity of rules.
Well worth the read, can't wait to read story number two where will it take us.
Kay Brandt weaves an intricate plot here that has to be on the minds of any D/s or kinky couple on the birth of a child or several. How do you keep your kink-play hot with children in the home?
In this story, Max is the daughter of Sumira and her alpha slave. Eighteen years ago, she sent her slave to suburbia with Stella, a female slave to raise Max in a "normal" household while Sumira runs a BDSM retreat. She intend on revealing Max's true parentage to her daughter on her 18th birthday.
When all of this is revealed to Max, there is a high level of angst. Sumira tries to take a "hands off" approach, but it is really obvious that she wants the daughter who does not know her to be the Matriarchal dominatrix that Sumira is.
The book is very well-written, has F/m, F/f and MM/ff scenes, but nothing really heavy. It is the first in the series.
I was wonderfully surprised with this book. This is a book you could easily read in one sitting as it did a good job keeping my full attention. Definitely kept me wondering what was going to happen next.
Max had to deal with so much and all on her 18th birthday, on what should have been a very happy and special day for her. Instead she was dealing with so much emotion in finding out the secret her parents had been keeping.
The erotica in this book is very hot and well detailed! While BDSM is not my usual “go to” erotica, the author’s detailed descriptions and imagery drew me in. It left me wanting to experience the loss of control and pleasure that it brought.
I will continue reading Kay Brandt’s books; I have yet to find one that I did not like.
I am ready for the next book and finding out what unfolds!
