Prohibition has a stranglehold on legitimate business, but for small towns willing to play dirty, and country boys looking to make a pretty penny on shine, Prohibition has been a boon. For Monroe County, it’s the very life blood that keeps their backwoods community afloat.
But something isn’t right about the new girl in town. Charlotte Elliot swears, she drinks, and she’s trying too damn hard to fit in with the simple folk. The moonshining backbone of Monroe, Matthew Emerson, is less than thrilled when the blonde comes knocking on his door.
He knows what she is, what she’s capable of.
Charlotte doesn’t mind his glares. All she pines for is a quiet place to start over, but try as she might, there is no pleasing Matthew. The gruff outlaw is only too happy to point out her flaws, to correct her mouth, and to find himself spellbound and awkward every time he happens to catch her pretty blue eyes.
A rotten past has a way of catching up with a girl, and the most notorious gangster in Chicago has found her—and he wants her back. Matthew aims to keep her, but if he wants her, if he really loves her, he has the fight of his life on his hands.
USA TODAY bestselling author and Amazon Top 25 bestselling author, Addison Cain is best known for her dark romances, smoldering paranormal suspense, and twisted alien worlds. Her antiheroes are not always redeemable, her lead females stand fierce, and nothing is ever as it seems.
Deep and sometimes heart wrenching, her books are not for the faint of heart. But they are just right for those who enjoy unapologetic bad boys, aggressive alphas, and a hint of violence in a kiss.
This has got to be the lightest work to date that I have read by this talented author: no matter this just proves that light or dark this lady could produce hallmark greeting cards and I'm gonna be right there praising up a storm about her ninja scribbling skills. I Adored A Taste Of Shine: like so so much: set during Prohibition time this story is unlike anything I've read before and I devoured every morsel offered obsessively. More of a slow burn than Addison's usual style: this author proves here that she can do that gradual reeling in just as fabulously as her darker stories and without losing any of her trademark flair and finesse. The characters here were such a fascinating varied bunch and each one was as multi-faceted as the next and by the time this drew to an end I so wasn't anywhere ready yet to depart Monroe County and leave Charlie, Matthew, Nathaniel and Eli. I really can't wait to rejoin the whole gang in that final anticipated instalment. A Taste of Shine is a re-release of A Trick of the Light it has been given a spit and polish and split into two parts: it's a fabulous historical read of Gangsters, Prohibition, moonshine and romance and this story packed such a potent powerful punch. I voluntary reviewed an Arc of A Taste of Shine (A Trick of the Light, #1). All opinions expressed here are entirely my own.
even though I had a bit of a hard time placing myself back into the 20s (LOL, well I wouldn't exactly know what was it like in the 20s since I don't belong in those years, obvs...)
BUT still, it takes a certain effort to think in the realms of a certain age and era
anyway, i'm degressing, what I can say in an absolute possitive way is that I loved the "southern vibe" in the book, it was authentic and palpable in words and manner of the characters...
and the story had this "familiar" outlook...as it reminded me of this movie with Tom Hardy, Shia LeBouf and Jessica Chastain starring...called Lawless
*sigh*
It's a fantiastic movie, based on true events...look it up, I recommend it (if not for the story itself than cause of damn good Tom Hardy *wink, wink*) and this book certainly can stand on its own, regardless of the familiarity of the movie-like scenery and tone.
I really enjoyed this, but first, I still need to say, separating this into two separate books was so. Stupid. This is a normal length book with no natural stopping point in the middle. I managed to find a copy of the original version and that's how it should be read.
Ok, I got that off my chest.
This was a novelty just due to the setting. How many prohibition era romances are out there? Not a lot. Now I feel like the time period could have been set a little better, since it's not a period I'm terribly familiar with and I had to google photos of 1930's West Virginia to get some clearer pictures in my head.
But Charlie was Kick. Ass. She had a tragic backstory, but she made her way in a male-dominated, criminal world, and held her own. I loved her. Now Matthew was not quite as lovable unfortunately. He was not a good communicator and tried to protect Charlie to the point of controlling her when her independence was part of who she was. But in other ways they also worked as a couple and I have a soft spot for the strong, silent type. So, here we are. I also loved Charlie's relationship and dynamics with Eli and Nathaniel. They were a great comic relief of sorts.
A taciturn but surprisingly sweet hero. A fiery, gritty heroine who knows her mind and her way around weapons. A lovely read that really shows the versatility of the author.
A Trick of the Light is quite different from Cain's previous books and it does not disappoint. The engaging writing style, her way of turning a phrase, is still very much in line with Cain's usual style. But the new setting that she brings to life--historical gangster Chicago and prohibition-era countryside life--is a big departure from her previous apocalyptic sci-fi/fantasy world. But she makes it work well.
The writing is tight; the plot fast-moving. No unnecessary drama and none of the typical cliches found in historical romances here. The diverse cast of colorful characters develop with the plot, becoming more engaging the more you read. I especially love the gradual reveal of Charlie's history, alongside the present, which really brings her to life as a three-dimensional character that you empathize with and root for. I wish we'd seen more of Nathaniel's story, but it likely would have detracted from the plot. Perhaps there is a sequel in the works there!
The development of the relationship between Charlie and Matthew is slow to start but rapidly picks up and it is very sweet (of course with a stiff dollop of spice).
So very different to her usual work yet just as brilliant and amazing
A Taste of Shine is a wonderfully written historical romance set in America's prohibition era. It is part one of a duet and set the scene so well with it's captivating plot, intriguing characters and gentle humour.
The author is know so much more for her dark work, which I love and which was enough to make me interested in reading this book. Even though it isn't my usual genre, without a shadow of a doubt I enjoyed every single word of this story. This is written with the same depth and quality that I have come to expect, once I started reading I really didn't want to put the book down.
I totally and utterly fell in love with Charlie, Matthew, Nathaniel and Eli. I not only felt that these characters were believable, I cared about them, laughed with them, felt their pain and totally want to be their friend. The book had me drawn in from the first page and held me in thrall until the very last line. There is nothing I would want to change about this book, or the characters within. I could read this book again and again.
The story in some ways was quite gentle in feel, though it has it's fair share of thugs and violence. I loved how the plot weaved the romance element through the story of a young woman escaping a tough background and trying to make a new start for herself. I loved the tough as nails, yet somewhat vulnerable Charlie. I loved the slow burn, I loved the banter between Charlie and Nathaniel. I even loved Matthew's bumbling alpha maleness even whilst I wanted to shake him and shove him in Charlie's direction.
The only thing I didn't love was that the story doesn't go on forever! Oh and having to wait for part 2, but that's just because I need so much more of Charlie, Matthew and the rest of the characters in this tale.
If you are a fan of this author, like an adventurous historical read and or just want a damn good read then I highly recommend this. In fact I highly recommend this book full stop.
I'm not going to lie, I think I enjoy Cain's lighter works more than the others, and A Taste of Shine is no exception. Set in the time of Prohibition, Cain gifts us Charlie Elliot, an ex-gangster/bounty hunter looking to escape the machinations of big city Chicago only to run into the Emmerson family, running a tavern by day and moonshine at night. From there on it's nothing but good ol' southern accents and chicken fried steak.
I enjoyed this break from her imminently dark works, and although dealing with gangsters and 'shine there's bound to be guns-a-blazing and fist-a-cuffs, Cain takes time to build the relationships between the characters. I loved Charlie, who presents as the stronger of the pair; having lived a life of crime, she is well acquainted with the darker side of life and isn't afraid to get down and dirty to win a fight. By contrast; Matthew almost comes off the tamer of the two. A man of few words and an ever growing temper, he is a mixture of southern hospitality and respectability when it comes to Charlie. And it is only too cute to watch him fumble through a courtship with a woman who has better aim then he does. Couple in his ability to fry up a storm and their back and forth banter and miscommunication is almost too much for me to handle. I loved watching him muck it up and make amends just as much as I loved watching self sufficient Charlie struggle to harness her inner lady.
Even as short as A Taste of Shine is Cain manages to pack in an interesting back story and a clear problem which will come into play in the next book. Between the relationship and Charlie's race to hide from her past I blazed through this only to sit sadly having finished, realizing I will have to wait for January to finish the tale.
Although I can honestly say I loved this book I'm going to have to knock Cain for marketing and it's sad that this bothers me enough to take away from what a good story she has on her hands. From my understanding this book was originally published as A Trick of the Light in 2016. From the division of the page numbers it looks like Cain discontinued A Trick of the Light and split it into two books: A Taste of Shine and the next to be named book. I never got a chance to read it in its original form (my fault because I had the sample on my kindle for about a year),so I don't know how much has been edited and changed, but it upsets me that she released this without any product description that it is essentially the same subject matter and she has split it into two books, what was previously published as one. I wish she had taken the time to explain this to readers because it seems a little underhanded that some people may be buying the same book over again when they were uniformed. Add to that the fact that when boiled down A Taste of Shine does not truthfully contain a full completed story, ending right in the middle of the problem, it feels cheap to charge the same price for half of the book as she charged for the completed story previously. Although I'm not happy with this choice it would have made it better had she explained it in her new summary. In summation the story is a 5 but the marketing gets a 3 so I'll round it to 4 stars and a frowny face.
This book is a rerelease of Addison Cain's A Trick of the Light. It has been polished up and added to, but hasn't significantly changed, unless you count breaking it up into 2 parts, which I think is perfect, because where it breaks is a perfectly natural place for the break to happen.
A Taste of Shine is an anomaly when it comes to Addison Cain books. It isn't dark. Which, yeah, I know, surprises people, but she can actually write light and still bring her touch to it.
We have Charlie the bounty hunter, Charlotte the golden girl, Matthew the head of his family and chief moonshiner, Nathaniel his feckless brother, and Eli his naive but well-meaning cousin, and they are all caught up in the moonshine business during the Prohibition.
I like Nathaniel. He's a definite character, and the kind you kind of think of when you think moonshiner. He's pretty much perpetually drunk, samples the merchandise a lot, is crude, rude and socially unacceptable. But for all that, he's incredibly tolerant, accepting, and loyal. He also can keep a secret, which you might not think that a perpetual drunk could, but he does. Eli is a little too much into hero worship when it comes to the big gangster names, but I think that was pretty common, they were larger than life. But, he's mostly a good guy, if a little young and impulsive.
Matthew is a harder one to get a good read on, but I do like him a lot. He's taciturn, but you can tell how he feels by how he acts. Charlotte is a hugely strong character and I love her a lot. But, she's also confused as all get out most of the time, which, really I don't blame her, knowing how she grew up. Emotion and such is really confusing at the best of times.
I loved the original book. I love this one. I can't wait to read the next part.
As a long-term fan of Addison Cain (although I admittedly haven't read this in its original form—A Trick of the Light), this is by far the lightest work of hers I have ever got my hands on. Going in, I wasn't really sure how the Queen of Darkness would make this work.
It was truly a delightful read. I powered through it, not wanting to put it down for a second, and adored its historical background, the slightly darker (and gory) undertones at the occasional violence, and of course, how much of a slow-burner the romance was. Both Matthew and Charlotte were absolutely fantastic and strong in their own rights, and the supporting cast was as developed as they were.
Absolutely fabulous. Light and fun with the perfect dose of steam!
This was a story i’d wanted to read for a long time and thanks to Addison,i finally got the chance. As part of her release of Stolen on iTunes,i received this beauty. It’s a very different kind of story, but one i enjoyed só much! I absolutely loved the strenght in sweet Charlie, and how she works her way into the heart of Matthew. That grumpy, but sweet man really needs a feisty girl like her in his life! Thank you Addison for this gem,i loved it!!
For a bit there, I had to double-check and make sure that I was reading an Addison Cain book, because this was actually more of a sweet, slow burn compared to her other titles. And it was just as enjoyable. Looking forward to what comes next.
And to think I almost didn’t read it at all because I was bored in the beginning (and because I’m not a fan of 3rd person POV for this genre)...really, really glad I got it in the end and stuck with it.
First of all, awesome heroine - absolutely loved her. If you’re into strong, capable and out-of-the-box heroines, definitely check this out. Hell, I wasn’t even bothered about her virginity (not that I have anything against virgins per se, just not a fan of virgins in romance books, because they’re ALWAYS virgins, while the men are ALWAYS experienced), especially as I guess it makes a lot more sense since it’s not a contemporary story.
Also, loved the hero too; really glad we got to be in his head a lot because he personifies the quiet, brooding type. But damn, did he have moves - I love it when authors go the “let me show you I love you” route rather than the usual “sure, I’m fucking other women and treating you like shit, but you’re mine! mine! mine! bitch”
It wasn’t perfect, sure, but I really loved it - and would definitely recommend if you like strong heroines, brooding heroes and a slow and very cute build-up.
Unfortunately, none of these authors’ other books are really my jam, but I’m definitely keeping an eye out for more of this in the future.
What a different, and yes, in a great way, type of story from the talented Ms. Addison Cain. The story takes place during prohibition and will be an ongoing saga (not necessarily a cliffhanger, but will have much more to come.) The story will have a feisty, foul-mouthed, gun shooting, do-it-my-way female, and a group of moonshiners in Monroe County, West Virginia, and mobster kingpins from Chicago.
Charlotte aka Charlie Elliot is more than meets the eye; she can hold her own, isn’t one to back down, or take crap off of anyone. She shocks most people with looking like a lady and cussing a sailor under the table, tells bawdy jokes, she knows about whorehouses, has been in them, but is still a virgin, she can drink moonshine, not afraid to enter a fight, and is a conundrum to most men, especially Matthew Emerson. One thing about Charlie, she is where she is in life because she has pulled herself up from the bottom of the muck and mire and made it happen.
“If you’re going to dress up like a lady, at least pretend to talk like one.
“Charlie considered Matthew’s words and had to agree she should try harder—until she recognized exactly what he’d said. Matthew didn’t see her as a lady at all—just some faker in a dress.”
The Emerson men, Matthew, his older brother, Nathaniel, and cousin. Eli is all moonshiners. Matthew has Devil’s Hollow Roadhouse that offers food and is also used to conduct business for their moonshine operation. There will be several confrontations inside the Roadhouse with thugs from Chicago, ones who would take out the Emersons to get their hands on their still operation.
“The Emersons don’t strike me as the type to start trouble—just to end it.”
The plot will have Charlie Elliot showing up at Emerson’s and planning on spending some time in Monroe. The noisy boarding house proprietor thinks she should know more about Charlie, but she gets nowhere with her questioning. Charlie is such a free-spirit, doing her own thing, where it is hunting, wearing men’s clothing, sleeping outside, or taking a trip to Chicago. She enjoys visiting the Roadhouse, eating Matthew’s cooking, and then sashaying out the door. When trouble comes, she can act cool as a cucumber, but not afraid to fight like a man, throwing punches, and yes, she can fight dirty.
The story will have kingpins from Chicago, ones that know Charlie well, coming to Emerson’s and trying to lure her back to Chicago. When she goes, Matthew must follow. He is an odd one, he has feelings for her but stays aloof, and some things he says to her makes her mad.
The story is far from over and will be an ongoing saga. I can’t wait for the next story of Charlie and Matthew, A Trick of The Light Duet coming January 2019.
When I first picked up this book, I was immediately drawn to the cover and the blurb. But I didn't really pay that much attention to the blurb because I don't typically read books set in this time period. I know. Prohibition, Mobsters, and Moonshine. It all sounds great. But wrapping my head around the fact that although the heroine was a strong independent woman, she wasn't really supposed to be. I know. A little too caught up on the little things in the bigger picture, but it was just something that caused an internal conflict with my brain...sorry. Let's get down to the review, shall we?
Charlotte Elliot, aka Charlie, is a real life bounty hunter. That's right. After being dealt a crap childhood and trying to make ends meat, she ended up disguising herself as her brother, acted like a boy/man and well...you'll learn the rest. So when she rolls through a small town outside of Chicago while carrying her latest bounty, she's struck with the, "I want to sit and look at things" bug. She tries so hard to fit in with the locals, even trying to impress "the man" in town, that she keeps finding herself slipping into the bounty man instead of the lady she's supposed to be. Add in the fact that she's being "courted" by her old pals back in Chicago and you've got yourself one hell of a story.
Matthew Emerson is "the man". Yep. Big alpha man in a small town who supplies all of the local watering holes and gangsters with his moonshine. Prohibition is almost over and he's all too aware that he needs something else to fall back on when that time comes. But when Charlie shows up, knocking him off his rocker and burying her unique charm under his skin, he's screwed. So much so that he's finding himself doing things he never thought he'd do in a million years. But she's worth it, right?
This story took a little bit of getting used to for me. But once I got in to the story itself and not caught up in the time period, I was able to enjoy it for what it was. A good story. I really enjoyed the extra moments between the Emerson brothers and Charlie. Nathaniel and Eli sure brought the fun to the story. Ok, mainly Nathaniel. All in all, well written story with a lovely bad girl heroine who gets the big kindhearted alpha. Beautiful.
*I received this book from the Jeep Diva in exchange for my honest review.
Wow, what a fabulous book! This story was well written and filled with complex characters. "Charlie" and the Emerson brothers ( Matthew, Nathaniel, and Eli ) were down to earth and heart warming. Watching the love grow between Charlotte, "Charlie" and Matthew was so real and sweet. Charlotte was used to being independent and standing on her own in the dangerous life she lived within. Matthew was an alpha male who wants to love and protect her from anything or anyone that may hurt her. The other Emerson brothers, Nathaniel and Eli, follow Matthew's behaviors and not only enjoy "Charlie" but want to protect her. I found the dialogue between Nathaniel and "Charlie" refreshing and funny. She can definitely hold her own with all the Emerson men as well as the criminals she encounters. Her relationship with Beau and Martha Radcliffe was complicated from the beginning but still had a deep love that grew over time.. I highly, highly recommend this book. The author kept me engaged in the story with danger, mystery, intrigue, love, steaming sex scenes, and even one spanking. I would have enjoyed more spankings scenes but that would be the only thing I would like to have seen changed. I hope this author will continue with these characters and make it into a series. I would love to see what might happen with the other Emerson brothers. I hope you will take the time to read this amazing must read book!! Note: I was given this book by the publisher in exchange for a free review.
This book is a true testament to the diverse nature of Addison Cain's talent. I fell in love with Ms. Cain's work after reading her sci-fi series. This book couldn't me more different, but it's just as amazing in its own way. A Taste of Shine is a historical romance set in the Prohibition era. Addison's skillful world building really transported me to that period in time and allowed me to live there for a while alongside her characters. Our heroine, Charlie, embodies everything I love about Addison Cain's female characters. She is strong yet vulnerable, she is feisty and can definitely kick a$$. This is a woman in a man's world who is ready to take on anything. The hero, Matthew, is a great counterpart for Charlie. He is a broody alpha who loves deeply and is fiercely protective of those he cares about. This is not an insta-love story, instead we get to experience the slow an beautiful dance as these two characters fall in love. It wouldn't be an Addison Cain story without some steam and she doesn't disappoint. I really enjoyed the cast of side characters in this book. They were well developed and interesting in their own right. I am hoping for more of the brothers in the future. All in all, another amazing book for the talented Ms. Cain!
A Trick of the Light (ATotL) is another fantastic read from Ms Cain (: Fans of her Alpha's Claim series, do take note that this book will differ a lot in terms of the background and story but nevertheless it was still a book that was hard to put down.
ATotL has a more unique and specific style and background - the Prohibition era. Ms Cain has done a wonderful job on making the description, writing style and speech to fit that era and as a reader I felt very easily immersed and attracted by such a style. The more you progress, the more you will fall in love and get sucked into the whole Prohibition era atmosphere.
As for the story and erotic scenes, this is where fans who love strong erotic scenes have to take note. ATotL is more of a sweet, heartwarming character-centric story with amazing characters. It is not one of those books where you get those erotic scenes really quickly and in great numbers but more of romance and tender lovemaking scenes.
But Ms Cain's writing style is unique, her characters are interesting and there will be things happening at just the right pace to keep readers interested. And once you reach the lovemaking scenes, everything will be worth it (:
I very much enjoyed this book, which was a surprise for me. :)
I've enjoyed reading the authors work online in the past, and own her other published books currently, which I enjoyed. I like my fiction science fiction or fantasy based, including my romances. A period piece from the Prohibition was not so much my thing, but the author's a good writer so I was curious.
This book was very entertaining, with a nice blend of sexual tension and characters which were likable but still carried flaws which gave them more depth and realism. At times you wanted to shake your head and smack sense into them, and then smiled when they still managed to make things right. The time period lent an interesting sort of intrigue to things which kept me enraptured.
I like Charlie's fire and independence. I liked all the Emerson boys and the way they played off each other so well. The change up from Chicago to Monroe kept things interesting as well, and let us see other points in history and setting while still keeping the flow and feel of the story.
This is a good read for most anyone, and I would recommend it.
This is why I enjoy Cain's work - her varied writing style. Shine is an exciting and engaging romance - though vastly different approach and style than her omegaverse stories - yet just as compelling and entertaining Charlie - A woman submerged in a man's world - determined to survive - has adapted and flourished. I really really enjoyed Charlie's personality. She was wicked smart, intelligent confident and cocky - her solution to surviving was brilliant! Matthew - the middle Emerson brother, the brains as well as the caretaker of the family, always in charge and on guard is fighting his attraction to Charlie - though I see this as a losing battle. I keep wanting to knock him around and yell "open your eyes! You are going to lose the best thing that has ever happened to you!" I really enjoyed the characters - the Emerson's are a blast with regards to quirks and traits - we just get a glimpse of some of the antagonists but just that little peek has me in defense mode Want to know how this ends!! This is the first of two parts
I can admit...I was a little hesitant to purchase and read this book. I quite frankly love BTBB series and was worried about flipping genres might not be as good (too light/fluffy?). Having said that, I had a feeling that I should give it a try, and I'm glad I did! After few pages I was hooked, lined and sinkered!
Ms. Cain's writing style is so relaxed and smooth that you truly feel like it's the prohibition era. The characters are likeable( and hateable!) while being complex enough that they actually feel like they could be real people. I Love Charlie! I mean I seriously LOVE the foul mouth, independant, strong and yet fragile golden goddess!
I only wished I could have stopped myself from binge reading it, but I'll have to remedy that and just re-read it a few more times to help get my fix from this talented author!
I don’t know that I’ve ever read a romance set in this time period, and I don’t know why more aren’t. Prohibition. Gangsters. Moonshine. A badass heroine and a hero who’s alpha enough to provide a great push pull relationship. He can come to her rescue, even though she may not completely need him to do so right at that moment. They are each other’s dragon slayers and it totally works. I wish more authors would explore this type of dynamic. It’s a solid 4star read for me. Coming off of her other books, I expected a higher heat level here, but the love scenes were very well written. I hope there are more novels set in this town. I am super curious about the other Emerson men.
I loved this book Charlie is one of the best heroins I have read. She is a total badass with a heart of gold. She has lived so much, knows all the awful things that people can do in this world but still is so innocent in others aspects of life. Her personality is so entertaining and refreshing. The way she interacts with the brothers and all the people is the best thing in the book.
Mathew, Nathaniel and their cousin are sweet, hilarious and protectives the right way.
Mathew is endearing in his grumpiness and love the way he doesn’t how to act with her sometimes. Nathaniel is my favorite of the brothers for his good humor and acceptance of all thing Charlie.
I can’t wait to read book 2 and know all the troubles all this characters al going to live.
I purchased this when it was a freebie, and I was initially really excited to start this series. Fortunately, I checked book 2, and saw that the author increased the price from $4.99 to $6.99.
Now this book also costs $6.99. I find this overpriced, because this duet will now cost readers about $14. To put it in perspective Outlander by Diana Gabaldon (a 642 page story) costs $5.99 on Kindle. The Bronze Horseman (a 912 page story) costs $5.99 on Kindle. These price increases are not competitive with the current market and the quality and length is not up to par with competing books.
Even though I got this book while it was free, I will not be reading it until the price for book 2 goes down.
The diversity of this author can only be described one way, brilliant.
A Taste of Shine is a period piece that throws the reader back into the Chicago prohibition/bootlegging era and it's a delight to behold. That infamous era of Al Capone and the Chicago mobs comes to life. The characters are layered and believable and the plot line is engaging. Who knew criminals could be so 'polite'.
I love the Emerson boys and Charlie certainly knows how to take care of herself, I can hardly wait for part two!
This was one of the best books I’ve read by Cain...and I absolutely love her writing!! There’s still a few alpha males and strong women but it’s one sweet story that pulls on your heartstrings and leaves you wanting more. Stunning story that needs to be read and shared.
Charlie is my absolute favorite female character. I’m convinced at this point that Addison Cain can write any genre and knock it out of the park. Her Omegaverse novels started my love for her books but anything she writes is amazing and I just want more!
cliffhanger, but I haven't read the second one and I don't have an overwhelming need to read it any time soon
Charlie is one tough gal! Matthew is definitely the strong and silent type Nathaniel and Eli are hilarious, would definitely be interested in reading more about Nathaniel. Eli, not so much
Charlie's story is sad, but she's definitely a rough and tough survivor - you go, girl!
not as much sexy times as I would've thought, what with this being a Cain book , but maybe she saved it all for the next book?
