Jane Doe always wanted a family, someone to love her and she thought she had found that at Thornfield with the staff and Mr. Rochester. The thing was though that Mr. Rochester was a hard guy to pinpoint and he breaks Jane's heart. Months later, she overhears that he has gotten engaged to Blanche Ingram - the rude lady from Book #1. This breaks her more, but she has an artist retreat to run at Thornfield. During this time an artist John Rivers catches her eye, and the pair spends some time together. Of course, Mr. Rochester arrives back jealous as ever, but why should he be when he has Blanche. During this time, Blanche's true colors are revealed as she tries to kill Jane. Meanwhile, Jane is about to discover who she is and what she's worth when her Aunt Sarah Reed gets sick and reveals a letter she has kept hidden for over ten years from Jane's biological Uncle - her Dad's brother James Eyre. This made me pleased as I was waiting for the Eyre revelation. Mr. Rochester and Jane rekindle their romance and get engaged only to have Mason interfere and reveal Mr. Rochester's crazy past to Jane. Can Jane stay and trust Edward to sort things out or has her heart been burned too many times? Now with money and property to her name, Jane finally has somewhere to call home and survive on her own. Is this a new chapter opening for Jane Eyre or will Edward Rochester win back Jane's love and trust?

So I want to love this series but it's tough. Don't get me wrong the characters are very well written but the story line just isn't my cup of tea.

Book two hits us where we left off in the first release. Jane Doe is living with a shattered heart. Edward was not the man she thought. He chose wrong. Keeping their love a secret had taken its toll and she thought he would chose her. Alone again left with nothing Jane is broken.

Secrets are still in the shadows but Jane finds out what haunts Edward. She finds herself unable to forgive the man she thought she loved. Edward is disturbing to say the least and Jane is a woman he doesn't deserve. This book is somewhat frustrating at times because of that fact.

The story works well and the writing is flawless but again it's not my kind of read. But I want you to tell me. This is a series so reading it you need to go back to the first release. Amity is a brilliant writer.

Try it out friends and let me know! Review to post to Ramblings From Beneath The Sheets.

Let me start out by saying, I have never read a book by Amity Cross that has never been lower than a 5 star review. I wish i could give her books more. She is an amazing storyteller, her characters are believable, her storylines hits you right in the emotions, and her description of everything in the books are breathtaking. Her words play out like a movie in my mind that i just can't get over. The emotions i feel for these books are unreal.
Please, if you haven't read the first book in this series go start it. This book does pick up right where the first one ended.

Paradox starts where Euphoria picks up with Jane Doe telling Edward how she feels and Edward walking away from her.
Jane Doe does not feel comfortable at Thornfield anymore. She really is still trying to find her place. She knows the answers to her questions are within the walls of Thornfield. When Edward comes back he isn't happy that another man has shown interest in Jane. Edward knows his heart has always been with Jane, and he is ready to move forward. The only problem, not everyone feels the same way.
I loved this book. It answered the questions i had in Euphoria. I loved Jane Doe, but at times i do feel she is kind of naive. Edward i wish had more of a backbone. I loved that he came back. The twists and turns in this book has me on the edge of my seat. All the secrets from his past is dictating his future and tearing them apart. That breaks my heart because i just want them to openly love each other. He is so stubborn i want to strangle him. I yelled at him like he could actually hear me. What can i say he upset me. I do like how Jane got the secrets to her past answered but it still confused her future.
I will try to be patient to find out what happens next but i'm screaming on the inside.

Im hoping in the end they get what they both need and want.

Paradox starts up where Euphoria left off, with Jane Doe broken hearted. All she's ever wanted was a name, to belong to a family, and someone to love. Unfortunately, there's never been a fairy tale ending in any aspect of her life, and instead, she's weathered many tough times on her own, without losing her kind, and humble self. But nothing holds a candle to the extraordinary pain from Edward's treatment. He's forced her to keep their romance secret, so when Jane finally gives him an ultimatum, he refuses to back down. When the darkest secret that keeps Edward from truly loving anyone is revealed, will Jane ever be able to forgive him, or will she be forced to leave Thornfield, and him behind forever?!

So there's no way to properly convey the haunting, and chilling beauty of this story with a twist. The character development is something special, with a cast of awesome secondaries. Amity Cross outdoes her own levels of awesome with this present time tale with a gothic feel. She brilliantly weaves a story that has darkness, and light, swirling all around, to the point that I don't which one will win. Jane is light, and Edward is dark, and yet, since Jane loves him, I want to believe that deep down he has to have some good somewhere, or at least I pray he does. Diabolical twists are around every corner, and frankly the third book can't come out quickly enough, as I'm drawn very deeply to this melancholy story. Bottom line, don't take my word for it, you actually have to experience the journey that I'm HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDING!

We continue with Jane Doe journey. All she has ever wanted is to be loved, to belong to a family and to have a name. She remains kind and humble even though she weathers some tough times and Edward seems to have caused her the most pain. Can Jane ever forgive him when she finds out his secrets? Is it time to leave Thornfield and Edward for good? This story is hauntingly beautiful with so many twists. There is a change in Jane Doe’s characterization as she moves forward with her life. She seems to grow and become stronger, even while she is in so much pain. Edward seems to become more brooding, mysterious and at the same time allowing us to see some of his cracks appearing. Secondary characters play a huge role and will leave you wondering if they are friends or enemies. The light and dark between Jane and Edward is evocative. This story is gripping and Ms Cross has presented a story with so much awesomeness that you will be salivating with anticipation for more. I highly recommend this series and look forward to reading book 3.

A modern take on a beloved tale

The second in the series, Paradox continues the modern tale of Jane Doe, aka Jane Eyre. Amazingly well done, keeping with the original in language and only occasionally veering off the story, the reader will be entranced, shocked, and emotionally tattered by the author. Probably the best book that I have read that pulled an old well-loved story into a modern venue. Highly recommended. Be sure to start with Euphoria (The Thornfield Affair Book 1)

If it wasn’t for the mention of i Pads, cell phones, and modern amenities, it would feel like the story took place in another era. So well written I never wanted to stop reading. Rocky should have told Jane the truth when she first asked for it. He only has himself to blame.

I will begin by saying that I did not read the first book in the Thornfield series. Therefore, I was a little lost at first. However, after reading a few chapters, Paradox gave me enough backstory I was able to follow the story jump right in without missing a beat.

Paradox is written in such a way it reminds me of an older classic novel. (i.e. Jane Eyre, etc..), but actually takes place in 2000. The characters are very prim and proper. Jane Doe was been unwanted her whole life. Given up to an orphanage by her aunt at at the age of 10, she suffered unspeakable cruelty. Now she is the manager of the Thornfield hotel and in love with the owner, Edward Rochester. Believed to be in love with the insufferable man, Jane is recovering after having her love thrown back at her by none other than the man she loves. Trying to decide what to do with her life, Jane discovers herself, and discovers the many secrets of the Thornfield hotel.

Paradox is a bit of a romantic love story with some mystery and drama. I enjoyed the self discovery that Jane Doe went through in this book. Despite the mood swings from Edward, I really liked his characters as well. Overall the book was a good read and I really enjoyed it.

Paradox starts right from where book 1 left us Jane left out in the cold after telling Edward how she felt and he walked away.

Months go by and we meet a new Man that seems to have Taken to Jane too John Rivers. We get more insight to Jane’s past, we finally find out her real name......
Edward returns and he isn’t happy .... Paradox answers a lot of questions that book 1 had left me with. In this book there was few twists I didn’t see coming, the secrets of Thornfield starting to come too light and things that are haunting Edward.

All Jane wants is to love Edward openly, but he forces her to keep it hidden...
But when secrets come to light that might tear them apart....

When the secrets come out will Jane ever be able to forgive Edward or will she leave him forever?
Amity writing is flawless the story keeps you hooked and trying to guess where it will go I really can’t wait for book 3 in this series I am so routing for Edward and Jane to get they’re HEA

Paradox was the first book I have read in the series, and I do recommend reading book 1 before branching into Paradox, but the writer definitely made it easy to figure out the storyline even though I hadn't read the first.

I thought it was quite good, the story flowed well, and the characters were well thought out. I didn't have an immediate connection with Edward, but I loved Jane from the start. She was fiery, and well spoken. Her personality although at sometimes felt beaten down, was courageous, and humble. She has a giving heart, and even through the crap she had grown up with, she still wanted to help or be there.

The sexy time was reserved, and sometimes, in a book such as this, it's better NOT to have it over the top. I enjoyed the dialogue and banter btw Rocky and Jane. It was beautifully written. The only critique I have is that for a modern day style book, it felt very historical. I wasn't expecting to find out the book was placed in 2000 because the wording felt very 1800's. (With the exception of the modern technology and dress)

Overall, I enjoyed the book and will be looking for book 3 as soon as it comes out. I HAVE to know what happens to our illustrious Jane "Doe"

"Jane Doe was never meant to be happy. Her lifetime had been about suffering and forever would it be so. Jane Doe was meant to die trying."

Oh my heart aches for the woman who has ensured so much. Her life has been bleak and yet she is still so pure and honorable. After the dramatic end of the first in this series Paradox continues exactly where we were left...Jane is broken hearted. Her love is not enough for the wealthy lord of the manor and once again she has been judged unworthy, thrown aside in favour of another. Dealing with the latest blow to her self worth Jane has to pick up the pieces now her hopes are dashed and Thornfield is no longer her safe haven. Unsure what her next move is she is determined to see things through and leave with her head held high. The best laid plans have a way of not working out and the ongoing saga of Jane Doe continues with a melancholy and eerily haunting charm. Can she ever find peace or unlock the secrets of her Master?

Paradox reveals many answers to the questions that Euphoria left us with. The tempestuous love of a poor woman and her wealthy boss captures the readers imagination once more as slowly the layers of pretense are stripped away to reveal the big secret. The truth is devastating to Jane and although she was on the precipice of happily ever after fate has more suffering in store for her. Edward is a tortured soul and he is driven by his demons to make the past right but unfortunately that impacts on his future as he is too withdrawn from the here and now to realise the damage his actions are causing. I cannot wait for the epic end of this story. I enjoyed the writing style, the secrets and the shady feel to the characters. Thornfield seems a place haunted by the tragedy that has been lived within its walls, a silent witness to all that has come to pass. Edward...He is a broken hero but hopefully his love for Jane will prevail. I love the tone and imagery of this story. It's a gentle yet fierce read, a contradiction in terms but somehow it just works. It's different and I thoroughly loved reading it.

A five star modern day classic read.

In order to fully understand what’s going on you need to read book one. I was hooked once again, the second I started reading! This series is a complete mysterious read, but it’s so addicting! There’s twists and turns and so much heat! Amity definitely knows how to keep the reader hanging on by a thread! I was gasping and yelling, that is when I wasn’t fanning myself! Seriously go one click this series!!!

Paradox by Amity Cross is the second book in her three part series The Thornfield Affair, a modern day re-imagining of the story of Jane Eyre. I was enchanted and addicted to Jane Doe and Edward Rochester's latest story.

Jane and Mr. Rochester told in a modern setting is something I was intrigued by completely. After we left them last time - broken and apart I wasn't quite sure where the story would go. Obviously some things will be different from the original story of Jane Eyre, but I was in the dark as to what that would be. I think this one seemed to flow a little faster and read a bit more seamlessly than the first book, Euphoria, and I am on tenterhooks for the third and final book in this series, Zenith.

This is the second book in the Thornfield Series and book 1 Euphoria needs to be read first. This is based on Jane Eyre and I haven't read that classic yet so I do not know how the original story goes.

Jane Doe has just had her heart broken by Edward Rochester. She is still trying to find her place and knows that she no longer feels comfortable at Thornfield. Yet she also knows that there are answers she is seeking within the walls of Thornfield and she is looking for answers.

As Edward comes back to Thornfield he knows that his heart stays with Jane and he is ready to move on. But not everyone is ready for that and in order for the truth to come out secrets need to be revealed.

There is still much at stake and when the secrets are revealed will Jane be content with the answers or will it be too much for her?

Wow - there was so much that I was not expecting in this book. I honestly believed that Edward was going to be a vampire or some other paranormal person and not what has happened.

I'm glad Jane got a little bit of closure with her past but unfortunately with her present she is so confused and torn up inside.

I understand Edward's loyalty to the past yet it wrecks his future which is so sad. I'm not sure where this is going to go but he's going to have to make a decision on which he wants in his life!

Looking forward to reading the conclusion of this story as there definitely needs to be some happiness for Jane!

We're back with Jane Doe and Edward Rochester and all thier reasons why they will never be together.

We start with Jane out in the moor right after Edward (is it wierd that I want to think this story is set in the 1800's and I should be calling him Sir Edward?) pretty much pushed her love away...and what a shove it was.

Jane has been on a mission to find love, family, friendship and herself...all those things she was denied growing up...and her quest is a long and arduous journey frought with devastating news.

Amity Cross does such a wonderful job of transporting you to another time and place...hence my comment about Sir Edward, as her writing style in this story as well as the conversation amongst characters harkens back years and years. For the most part I forget about laptops and cell phones. I expect Jane to be wearing dresses and then there's a mention of jeans and I'm brought back to the present. What a wonderful feat...to take somone back in time, especially when the story is written in the present. LOL

I've loved these characters and their fights, their trials and tribulations to meet in the middle somewhere and find love with each other. Even the secondary cast such as Alice, Blanche and Gracie Pool.

With premonitions, scares, secrets and trysts I've come to rather enjoy this story line and it's oddities.

Antoher wonderful 4 Star story in this series.

Jane Doe. One would think anyone who held that label would embody cynicism, mistrust, and a downright nasty outlook on life. Despite having led an incredibly harsh life, Jane, a young lady who merely wants to make her way in life and one day have a family she could love and be loved in return, is level-headed and appears self-assured.
After taking on a managerial position at an English hotel, she falls for the mysterious owner, Edward Rochester. After months of keeping the affair hidden, Jane gives him an ultimatum. Secrets, lies, and violence follows.
Jane is an incredibly strong individual, forged in violence with limited expectations of those she meets. One cannot help but get pulled into her story. She meets every obstacle in her path with a logic born of necessity.
Edward, tricked into an impossible situation, bears the weight of his burdens yet protects the one that would see him murdered.
I found this story to be well written with characters that keep you turning the pages. Though I normally prefer a HEA ending and without hooks, this author builds a world that holds your interest throughout and leaves you wanting more. I will definitely read the next book in line.
Four and a half stars.

After reading the first book, I really couldn't wait to read this. I had so many questions I needed answers to. The secrets of Edward Rochester and Thornfield Manor were very intriguing, and I needed them to be revealed! I do love the way Amity writes, I just seem to connect with her words. I can picture everything in my mind whilst reading. The characters are great although I was frustrated at times with their stubborness to not admit their feelings for one another.
My heart continued to ache for Jane in this book, she has been made to feel unworthy most of her life, she doesn't even know her real name. She is left heartbroken knowing Edward has feelings for her but can't be with her, she feels she is just an employee and definitely not worthy of being by Edward Rochester's side.
Jane is determined to see her job through to the end before she leaves, and she also wants to find out what secrets lay behind the walls of Thornfield Manor. Can Jane handle the truth? Will she stay at the Manor with Edward or leave to start a new life? I am very much looking forward to book three, it can't come soon enough!

Returning to Thornfield was something I have been looking forward to as we continue with this modern day rendering of Jane Eyre.

I have been enjoying and loving this modern twist of a classical favourite. Jane and Edward's parths are inter-twined but there is a self-destructive nature to their relationship.

I did hope that we would get a modern day understanding of Blanche's mental health condition but it stuck to the old fashioned stereotypes. This did disappoint me slightly. However, it didn't take away the enjoyment of reading this book.

Once again the rugged beauty of the natural surroundings was mirrored in the atmosphere and the emotions of the characters. With everything that has happened in Paradox, I am eagerly awaiting the conclusion to this journey.

4.5 Mysterious Stars! This is the second book in the Thornfield Affair Series and should be read in order to fully understand it. The story continues where we left off in Euphoria. Now I need the third book to find out what is going to happen. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it!

Back in the land of Thornfields and its creepy, dark, laughter filled walls....I need answers!

Poor Jane has had her heart ripped out and now everyone seems to be taking a little peck at her, removing parts of her happiness bit by bit. Its no wonder the poor woman isn't on some kind of anti depressants!

'Who could solve the paradox of unrequited love.'

This 2nd part gives us more treachery, lies and betrayal and a whopper of a secret is revealed!

I am loving this series, in all honesty I didn't think I was cut out for a near historic romance, but I have inhaled these books! Bring on book 3!

Loved this book and I am loving this series. From what I could gather prior to reading this series, this story is a take on Jan Eyre and fortunately for me I have not read Bronte’s version so this story is fresh and new to me. This story has twists and turns, secrets, passion and heartbreak; it’s beautifully written and I love the way the characters speak in an almost 19th Century way. I love Jane Doe’s strength, the way she handled Edward’s secret and I’m glad that she decided to keep a few secrets of her own. Looking forward to the final installment of this series!

Paradox is totally the right word for book two. Talk about twisted secrets with a messed up Alpha male who you want to punch and cuddle Anthe same time. You get hit with a lot of Jane's emotions in this book taking you back to her not so happy childhood and dealing with everything in the present day while trying to keep her secret hidden.
