It's Kae, coming to you from a crazy situation! After running into my childhood friend, Mitsuboshi, at a voice actor event, I was excited to introduce him to everyone. But something wasn't right about Mitsuboshi, and now he's tricked me and separated me from the group!

He has an extreme plan to keep me from Shima and the guys forever, and it's going to take everyone's efforts together to stop him. Hm. :/ Unfortunate. I didn’t like this volume as much as I usually like the volumes in this series. Clearly. By a wide margin, considering my rating. I wanted to give this volume mercy--to rate it 3 stars--but 3 stars means “I liked it” and honestly that seems like a bit much. 2 stars means “It was okay,” and I think that’s all I can give this volume. Which sucks, because I enjoyed the previous volumes so much that I literally felt WITHDRAWAL after finishing them.

The first couple chapters in this volume comprise of the resolution of the “Oh No Kae Got Kidnapped” arc (my dub), and then it very strangely has a three chapter mini-arc at the end of the volume that is completely and utterly unrelated and unconnected to the previous arc, made even stranger by the ending of the arc which was a tense and dramatic cliffhanger. So you’re all “Oh no what will happen next????” and all tense and whatnot, except then you have to suddenly completely change gears towards this really silly mini-arc? Whack. But that wasn’t even a big or my main problem with this volume.

The resolution to this arc was way too silly, unrealistic, and rushed. It felt like everything moved way too fast, and things worked out way too conveniently (Kae surviving a fall out of a hotel window, Nana randomly being able to do fighting moves he saw in an anime… and it WORKING, etc.). It was also way too goofy for my tastes, and felt too much like a cartoon for little kids. This meant that no events ever felt tense, suspenseful, or dramatic. To top the disappointment off, it wasn’t even as funny as usual, and only made me laugh once. I really hope this is a one-off thing, and that the whole series hasn’t always been this way and I’m only now starting to realize and get bothered by it.

The only good thing about this volume was the ending, because it finally brought back some of the intense drama that I usually love from this series.

This volume was a huge letdown, but since I’m behind on this series I already have the next two volumes lined up and ready to go so hopefully this returns to its regularly scheduled hilarity.

This series has really taken an extremely chaotic turn. What is even happening anymore??

The side story at the end confused me at first reading it directly after the main story, but once I figured it out it was very ridiculous and fun.

We have our Shota Boy; we have our Senpai; we have our Wild Child; we have our Sporty Son; we have our Lesbian Lady; AND NOW WE HAVE OUR YANDERE NUTCASE!

Tah-kun has kidnapped Serinuma and is trying to force her into marrying him. But of course our lovely group of guys (and girl) aren't about to let that happen.

This volume ends with an amusing three-part bonus story.

This series has 14 volumes.

Uhhhhh...

Just...uh...

I mean, this one was so full of ridiculousness I basically couldn't handle it. The whole series is a farce, but for some reason this latest plot line takes things a bit too far for me. And the cliffhanger ending--Matsumi, NOOOOO!

And then there's a really stupid comic at the end that ughhhh.

I still read the next volume right away, of course!

Mutsumi!!! I hope he's going to be okay- he's definitely my favourite character.

What happened to Takeru? Did he always have that darkness in him? Is he going to be a better person now that Kae gave him a reality check?

*Sigh I'm worried.

It's Kae, coming to you from a crazy situation! After running into my childhood friend, Mistuboshi, at a voice actor event, I was excited to introduce him to everyone. But something wasn't right about Mitsuboshi, and now he's tricked me and separated me from the group! ... He has an extreme plan to keep me from Shima and the guys forever, and it's going to take everyone's efforts together to stop him. I've grown so much with the help of my friends, but Mitsuboshi just wants to keep the old me. Can we stop him before it's too late, and will someone have to put themselves in danger? ... With the boys' bodies, I can finally take all the BL-inspired photos I want! Oh, and I guess we should solve the mystery too…

If you read the previous review you know that Kae’s childhood friend is a total creep and he’s kidnapped her. The cover reveals his master plan: he wants her to get fat again (so no one else loves her, because her personality is all he loves about her, and everyone just loves her body— or so he says) and then marry her so she’s by his side forever. He depends on her support of him, depends on the relationship. It comes out that it’s actually he who doesn’t see her for who she really is, wanting her to be the same person she was when they were kids, and her new friends (who all want to date her) actually like her as she is, and don’t want her to change or do anything against her will.

Like, that’s nice and all, but I’m seriously dismayed by this kidnapping plot line.

The reasons for his obsession are kinda weak to be completely honest. He’s kind of a reignless psycho, an amalgamation of stereotypes and pop-sci ideas about what crazy obsession is. I am so close to giving up hope, but the next one looks like the final volume. (Not a spoiler: it isn’t the last volume.)

So anyway, he drags her to a church in order to force him to marry her and there’s some weird complicity but backstabbing by his assistant, but in the end the team assembles to help her! No surprise, they stop the wedding but, SPOILERS, one of them is seriously injured.

Whatever will happen next, I wonder. Ugh. I'm stuck, I already bought and read the next volume. Click here if you really want to find out what I thought when I read it.

I read 9-10-and 11 back to back, and 7+8 not far behind, so I'll just talk more generally about them.

So, some characters get introduced that push the plot forward. These include a woman from Igarashi's past and a man from Serinuma Kae's past. A lot of characters factor into this section, Nishina flaunting her monetary ability to get stuff done quickly, the wimpy kid with the lizard (Shinomiya?) becoming actually strong enough to take out some baddies with his cunning, Nanashima being himself (he had a fairly forgettable story arc in these ones iirc). Mitsumi Senpai is always nice, and he factors in, but he definitely didn't seem to take the lead as much as I thought he would.

I really didn't like the childhood friend arc. It started out ok, I thought maybe they'd play him as a false love interest (he'd be gay for Serinuma's brother or his manager maybe, and his need for Kae be for an actual friend to go to for advice). Instead, he is a weirdo not above drugging Kae's punch to get her to stay with him, and then things escalate further with him attempting to marry her against her will. It's just really bad. I don't think we needed this kind of character, especially when, as mentioned above, we already had Igarashi's former fling pushing things forward.

Volume 11 ends weirdly. The final 3 chapters were fantastical. I don't know if they're supposed to be a dream or what. I wish I had volume 12+13 on hand.

So next time, I'll try to wrap up the series. I know who wins, but I want to see how natural their victory is.

“Those guys don't know the real you, Kae-Chan! They just flocked to you 'cause you got pretty!! I'm the only one who loves and cares about the real you!! Why can't you see that!?'
"...No ...Tah-Kun. You're wrong... You don't see the real me!! You only see the Kae you knew in the past!! You said you wanted me to return to my old figure... saying that... that's what made me who I am... But you're wrong!! If you only acknowledge this figure to be Kae Serinuma... then you're the one who sees me only for my physical appearance!!”

Those last two chapters have me reeling! One second I'm getting all teary-eyed, the next I'm beyond giddy about seeing Kae finally show some romantic feelings towards someone, no matter how small. I cannot wait to see what's going to happen next!!

Possible spoilers? I tried to be vague lol
After the last volume I was kinda wondering what was going to happen and everything just kinda goes crazy? It’s a nice change of pace to have some darker stuff happen but it’s not really why I’m reading this series.

It continues from where the prior volume left off and then everything is kinda resolved? At least for a few seconds until something tragic happens again. Then it leaves off on a cliff hanger in the middle of the manga and the last 50 or so pages is just an extra funny side story.

Probably my least favorite volume so far but we’ll see

Wow! Just wow! This volume is amazing! I love the saving Kae saga that continues in this volume. All of the guys(and gal) working together and getting her back! Also, I loved the little body switching story that happened at the end of the book. That was such a fun little extra that I didnt see coming.

This was a whirlwind and a half but I think we got the development to get somewhere for the rest of the series.

I have somewhat mixed feelings? Don’t know how to describe it but it seems we’re on our way to Kae finally making her choice and it’s going in a direction I like a lot so I’m excited to see what happens next!

This volume continued with more of the unlikable character, but we saw some growth from Seranuma and I always like seeing Mutsumi as a focus, so it redeemed itself. Plus, I found the body-switching extra story to be very fun and amusing.

I hate the cliffhanger and hope that precious Mutsumi-senpai recovers fully.
Also, I really hope they reported and pressed charges against that yandere voice actor. Poor Kae-chan might be traumatized for life because of everything that happened.

Story is as crazy and cheesy as it can get. Not a fan of the fat jokes. I think they are a bit on the trashy side. Also the side story was just awkward? I get the troupe thing but I just felt like it was too much a filler in order to get you to buy the next manga.

Jail for 1000 years for Takeru!! Also a very abrupt tonal shift between the main story (kidnapping saga from the previous volume continues and is resolved) and the extra, which features very silly shenanigans.

Oh man this volume just GREAT! I kept laughing at some of the scenes. I died when Nanashima did a fight move from PuriPuri and yelled out the fight move 🤣 Probably my favorite volume so far. It was so ridiculous in a good way 😆
