Cameron Walker has never been in love. Not in high school, not in art school, and not since he’d gotten his work into major galleries across the country. It’s not that he doesn’t want it – he’s just never found the right man – until a painting trip to the beach put him right on his canvas. The mysterious surfer in red. He’s charming and sexy, and Cam can’t get him out of his mind…but there’s only one The guy is 100% undeniably straight. Lee Castle is a real free spirit. He’s traveled the world with only his surfboard, and now he’s finally back home in the OC. With his camper van set up on the beach, his only worry is how the waves are going to be that day. When Cameron shows up at his private cove, the two are drawn into a close friendship, and Lee takes it upon himself to show the risk-averse painter how to have a little excitement in his life. As Cameron falls deeper in love with his best friend, he finds it more difficult to hide his feelings – and his orientation – from Lee. It seems like he’ll suffer the pain of unrequited love for as long as they’re together – until one day, the tides of fate change their lives forever. Tidal Forces is a steamy contemporary M/M gay standalone story set on the beaches of Orange County, California, and features a HEA uplifting feel-good ending with no cliffhangers! You can read any book in the SoCal Boys series in any order you choose.
Straight guys beware. I guess since Cameron and Abby are talking about magic that it’s supposed to be a real thing in this story. So, if magic is real you can hit your head and you become gay.
I have to admit that was a strange concept for me. That and having anal sex with no prep and just spit. On top of that he’s a virgin and Lee has an extremely large penis. This was my first story by Cody Ryder, so I don’t have anything else to compare it to.
Tidal Forces is the first book I've read by Cody Ryder (that's a play on a porn name right?) and it definitely won't be the last! It's been a fun reading journey since I've started reading romance and each new author I discover it just gets better and better.
The theme here is surfing and beach, Cam is an artist who has a recurring dream about a man in red on the beach, after the advice from his younger (and really sassy) sister he decides to go to the beach one day and whaddya know - he sees a man in red, he then paints the man and then sets out to give him the painting, the man turns out to be a sexy and charming young surfer named Lee, Lee is on a spiritual journey, living out of hid van on a secluded cove of an Orange County beach, they soon become friends and thus eventually fall in love. This book isn't really perfect, it is quite slow paced at the beginning and there is a twist in the middle that truly baffled me but besides that this book is a very sexy and light beach read. The cover is perfect for the story as it is exactly the vibe of the story, easy. breezy and beachy. I'd love to read a follow up book with these 2 characters as their story is one that I think would be interesting to follow further.
If you're after something summery and sexy, this is the book for you.
This starts out well, if a little benign. Cam seems to be a good guy and I enjoyed the close relationship he has with his much younger sister. He meets Lee and they become fast friends. Even though Cam is wildly attracted to Lee, he keeps his feelings to himself and chooses to wait on telling Lee he's gay. Up until this point I thought this was going to be a sweet, fluffy, instalove-y read, but that's not exactly the case. There is a "PC" aspect of the story that I think will have many readers ripping it to shreds.
The story could definitely use an editor, but if you can get past the spoiler and you want something light and fluffy, this might work for you.
Cameron Walker and Lee Castle might never have met if it weren't for the proddings of Cameron's younger sister. She pushed him to literally follow his dreams. Cameron had already achieved one huge dream of becoming a successful artist in Orange County, California. He rented Studio space next to the Art Gallery that showcased his work. For him coming out had been rather anticlimactic - his parents and sister's love still unconditional. Yet he himself had not found that special someone, not that he was actively looking.
But lately his reoccurring dreams had him thinking of a beautiful passionate man whose face he could never remember, but certain aspects of the dream remained vivid. Ever the skeptic, Cameron humored his much loved sister and her Magic theories by heading to the beach one day with his painting supplies. The different landscape proved inspirational. His fingers flew across his canvas. In the distance red swim shorts caught his attention as the man crested wave after wave. His final approach was the culmination of the faceless man in his dream. His perfect muscular swimmer's body, startling blue eyes, and sun bleached blond hair. Nearly struck dumb with shock. He never would have found out as much as he needed to know if it weren't for an older resident of the area who knew where the surfer Lee's temporary accommodations were located.
Impulsively Cameron decided to go to Lee's "residence" and gift him with the surfing rendition. He left the painting, but ran into Lee returning from shopping. The attraction was strong and mutual, except Cameron was sure Lee only saw him as a friend. Despite his disappointment, a true friendship developed. For the first time in a long time Cameron was having a great deal of fun. Putting a great deal of trust in his new friends Cameron sets aside lifelong fears to share in Lee's adventures. He is so happy, except the growing love he feels Cameron needs to keep everything platonic. Lee's life is equally enriched by becoming great friends with Cameron.
With over two hundred pages, this is a slow simmering fire that builds until it culminates in a fantastic adventure filled romance. There is danger - a part of the thrill of surfing & other water sports. There are family issues that come to the surface after a very surprising revelation. The importance of family, friendship, trust, and love are reoccurring themes. What would you be willing to do or give up in order to be with the man you love? Why is it the ones you love the most, hurt you so badly?
This was a very entertaining book, that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys stories about friends to lovers tales, seeing life through an artist's eye, wanderlust that is fulfilled, and family drama that being gay only seems to exacerbate. And if you haven't already read it, I'd like to recommend another book by this author OUR RHYTHM.
A reason to believe in magic… I really enjoyed this book, it has a great balance of sweet and sexy that kept me engaged from start to finish. Drawn to the beach after dreaming of the man of his fantasies, straight laced Cameron finds more than he ever hoped for when he meets the free-spirited nomad, Lee. These two men have polar opposite attitudes and lifestyles, but their unlikely friendship struck all the right notes with me. I felt for Cam, who’s unrequited crush pained him, but as the world opens up in front of him with some gentle coaching from his new friend and his precocious little sister, I had to agree that it’s worth the price for him. While I initially had mixed feelings about the flipping of Lee’s ‘gay switch’ (no spoilers here), there’s something so pure and honest about the new light he sees Cam in that it was easy for me to just go along with it. Lee and Cam are such a perfect balance for each other, with so much undeniable chemistry, that this is a great choice if you’re looking for romance that just feels good to read. Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This was such a sweet story though not too sweet. I really liked the positive message & the characters. It was a solid 3.5 for me. The deciding factor that sent the rating down instead of up was the editing. I am not a grammar / editing Nazi. I often don't even notice what others complain about. So... when I'm thrown out of a story multiple times due to editing issues, then it is most definitely a concern especially for any reader extremely sensitive to it. Otherwise, it is a perfect summer beach type read. Brain Candy!
This was just an ok read. If you're stuck for a read and have a couple of hours to spare then this will fill it, just don't expect any huge depth to the characters or emotions.
