Bilbo the Lifeguard Dog: A true story of friendship and heroism

Rate this book

When Steve Jamieson met Bilbo, a chocolate Newfoundland puppy, little did he know that the small bundle of fluff would grow to take up a huge space in his heart and change his life forever. The pair were inseparable, with Bilbo accompanying Steve to his job as head lifeguard of Sennen beach in Cornwall every day. With his webbed paws and thick, double layer of fur, Bilbo was an excellent swimmer and he was soon promoted to honorary lifeguard. He was even credited with saving the lives of three people.

Word about Bilbo spread and fans flocked from miles around to meet the friendly giant. But Bilbo and Steve couldn't have foreseen the obstacles that life would throw at them. Together, they would have to gather every bit of their strength to fight for their livelihood.

Warm, heartfelt and moving, Bilbo the Lifeguard Dog is a tale of heroism and friendship, and is one man's tribute to his extraordinary dog.

My happy place is reading about wonderful animals. This one is about an amazing Newfoundland who along with his person, a lifeguard, saved lives and educated people. Good boy, Bilbo.

I finished this book in a matter of hours. It was right up my street! Cornwall has a very special place in my heart and it was great to read all about the places I have been to numerous times and the areas I love.

This story was incredibly heartwarming. All the times I have been to Cornwall and have never heard of Bilbo, since I only started going after he had sadly passed away. But what an incredibly moving story of a man and his dog. Bilbo captured the heart of everyone who knew him and even got famous! This was written with an outpouring of complete love and devotion from Steve to Bilbo and vice versa. What an inspiration! Steve gave Bilbo the best life ever and it's very clear the love between the pair.

I absolutely loved this and although it was sad when Bilbo died, Steve made it so comfortable for his best friend. I hope Steve got another Newfoundland to share his life with because he truly does have a lot of love to give.

A lovely book about an amazing dog and his owner. The only negative thing I found about it was sometimes the timeline was a bit all over the place and it wasn't clear when some events occurred around the time of Bilbo. But overall a very heartwarming story.

Staying in Cornwall whilst reading this which was better now that I have been to a lot of the places mentioned frequently in the book. I read it in no time, lovely read and first time I have cried at the end of a book for a while!

Lovely story about Bilbo and his work, very much worth a read. But a little too much personal stuff about the author/owner.
