기차는 7시에 떠나네

이 책은 자신의 지난 과거 중 한 부분을 기억하지 못한 채 늘 뭔가 비어있는 듯한 삶을 살고 있는 주인공 하진의 이야기를 담았다. 주인공이 잃어버린 기억을 찾아가는 과정을 중심으로 주변인물들이 상처를 딛고 자신의 삶을 찾아가는 모습을 그린 장편소설이다.

과거에서 현재로의 일방통행식 흐름 대신, 사이사이 인물의 마음 무늬를 되짚곤 하는 신씨의 문체가 고스란히 살아있다. 주인공 하진은 과거의 한 부분을 잃은 30대 여자. 작가는 마치 추리소설처럼 그의 기억 속에 80년대의 상처를 감춰놓고, 이 실체를 되찾아가는 마음의 여정에 오르도록 한다.

Beautifully written, engaging, vivid pictures
Transparent view into the thoughts and feelings of the protagonist
Individual chapters were often poetic and heartfelt but overall plot was mediocre and slow at times
