About the author

Before she became one of Sweden’s most popular crime writers, Camilla Läckberg (b. 1974) worked as a marketing director and product manager for several years. Her first two crime novels, Isprinsessan (The Ice Princess) and Predikanten (The Preacher), received rave reviews from the Swedish press and quickly found a large readership. But her big breakthrough came when Stenhuggaren (The Stonecutter) was nominated for The Crime Novel of the Year award in 2005, and also when Olycksfågeln (The Stranger) and Tyskungen (The Hidden Child) were made lead titles in Bonnier’s Book Club.

Camilla’s books have gained even more popularity after being adapted into a TV-series, produced by SVT (Swedish Television).

Ειναι ενα πολυ ευφάνταστο ανάγνωσμα με παράλληλη πλοκή και ανεξάντλητη δράση.

Περιπέτεια που αρχίζει πριν πολλα χρονια και εξελίσσεται μεσα στις σελίδες ανάμεσα σε παρελθόν και παρόν με αμείωτο ενδιαφέρον.

Η συγγραφέας κατορθώνει να ξεδιπλώσει τόσο αριστοτεχνικά την πλοκή που αναρωτιέσαι εξ αρχής αν θα βρεθεί τελικα λύση στις μυστηριώδεις εξαφανίσεις ή αν θα σταματήσουν την προσπάθεια επίλυσης λόγω ανεπάρκειας στοιχείων και μάταιες προσπάθειες πολλών προηγούμενων ετών.

Το οικοτροφείο που ειναι και το σκηνικό του μυστηρίου και της αγωνίας σε υποβάλει έντονα συναισθηματικά και προσπαθείς διαβάζοντας αδιάκοπα να εξηγήσεις ποιος ή ποιοι ,πότε και γιατι προκάλεσαν τόσο κακό .

Ο αφανισμός μιας ολόκληρης οικογένειας χωρίς προφανή λόγο και η έγκαταλειψη ενός μωρού στο οικοτροφείο ( όπου και διέμεναν) ειναι ο άξονας του μυστηρίου με μοναδικό κληρονόμο θανάτου αυτο το μωρο που τωρα ειναι η μόνη επιζήσασα η οποία επιστρεφει μετα απο πολλα χρονια σ´αυτο το νησί αρχίζοντας μια νεα ζωη και προσπαθώντας να ξεχάσει τα δικά της τρομερά χτυπήματα της μοίρας .

Οι προσδοκίες της ομως ακυρώνονται αυτομάτως οταν αρχίζει ένας νέος κύκλος κακών γεγονότων που δένουν άρρηκτα και απροσδόκητα το παρελθόν με το παρόν και το μέλλον.

Camilla dear I have missed you so much...

I just love the way this woman writes.. So imaginative, such complicated plot line.. Whenever I pick up one of her books (with a few exceptions) it's simply impossible for me to put them down..

I love this flashback technique she uses so masterly.. The narration is fast paced and constantly switching back and forth as the mystery unravels.. I am not going to go into any plot details to avoid spoiling anything..

However, there were some parts that were never clearly explained (which is so unlike her... I ve read all 8 books so far and she always answers every single question you might have). The final chapter was so confusing.. Such a cliffhanger.. I wonder if that is the storyline she plans to base her next book on... I hope that is the case because I felt a bit betrayed... Such an odd thing to do.

But who am I kidding?? I loved this story too.. Absolutely thrilling... So if you care to take another mental trip to Fjallbacka, don't even think about it... Along with The Stonecutter, The Preacher and The Lost Boy, Buried Angels is officially one of my favorites!

Te mantiene pegada al libro , en suspenso total. Y aunque algunas cosas son un poco predecibles , de alguna manera termina sorprendiendo.

Oh, lord. It's a bad sign when a character gets into a life-threatening situation and you find yourself rolling your eyes. Again. I mean, the writing has always been formulaic, the characters can all be intensely annoying, and it's generally been clear who the killer is, but that didn't bother me as much before, because there was something good in the stories being told. Now I feel like I got suckered into reading a checkout-lane thriller in which the characters grow increasingly into stereotypes. Babies, near-death experiences, last minute escapes, and nazis, pretty much. I'm going to check out of this series before it gets any worse.

When you get past the familiar, tried and tested, formulaic writing style, this is another excellent book.
I do wonder why Camilla doesn't just write historic fiction. I guess cos she likes to reflect and reveal its impact on her contemporary characters. You get two stories in one book and you are quickly absorbed into her writing and all seems quite straight-forward and normal.
As usual, Erica investigates behind police hubby's back, placing herself and others she loves in grave danger; police boss Mellberg does nothing and gets all the credit. Meanwhile, the development of these well-loved characters leaves one emotionally involved; they're like an extension of one's in-laws. No births directly, some passing comments though and Paula is near her time: deaths of course and plenty of intrigue and mystery. Relationships described in various stages of disrepair and brokenness. The darker elements here include child abuse, neglect, poverty, mental health borderline insanity, far right politics and numerous murderous thoughts and actions.
Lackberg weaves her magic and charm across earlier descendants and questions as with the TV show: Who do you think you are? Are we nature or nurture? Can we escape our past and overcome misdeeds and secrets, keeping them suppressed or will they bleed out into are later lives with damaging effect?
Thought provoking yet highly entertaining story which keeps this author at the top of her game and hard earned reputation.

Επιστροφή στη Φιελμπάκα (η οποία όπως είδα στη wikipedia το 2008 είχε 850 κατοίκους --> σιγά σιγά η Λάκμπεργκ πάει να τους μειώσει, βάζοντας τους μισούς να σκοτώσουν τους άλλους μισούς).

Αυτή είναι η 8η περιπέτεια του Πάτρικ και της Ερίκας, οι οποίοι έχουν τώρα τρία παιδιά. Η υπόθεση που αντιμετωπίζουν αφορά το μυστικό που κρυβόταν εδώ και χρόνια σε ένα νησί απέναντι από τη Φιελμπάκα (εκεί που διαδραματιζόταν το Χιονοθύελλα με άρωμα πικραμύγδαλου), όταν μια οικογένεια εξαφανίστηκε μυστηριωδώς από το πασχαλινό τραπέζι, αφήνοντας μόνο ένα μωρό να μπουσουλάει στην τραπεζαρία.

Η υπόθεση διαδραματίζεται στο παρόν αλλά και στο παρελθόν, ξεκινώντας από το 1908 και προχωρώντας ως το μοιραίο μεσημέρι του 1974, όπου στις τελευταίες σελίδες περιγράφεται live ο τρόπος εξαφάνισης της οικογένειας, εκεί που το μυστήριο έχει πλέον επιλυθεί.

Στο παρόν η αστυνομία αρχίζει να ασχολείται πάλι με την υπόθεση, καθώς η κόρη, που πλέον έχει γίνει 35χρονη γυναίκα, επέστρεψε στο νησί της με το σύζυγό της. Κάποιες παράξενες δραστηριότητες που παραπέμπουν σε πιθανό εγκληματία, διαδραματίζονται εκείνες τις μέρες, οπότε ανοίγει ο δρόμος για την αποκάλυψη των "καλά κρυμμένων μυστικών" της Φιελμπάκα!

Πέρα από την πλοκή, είναι ένα ιδιαίτερα ώριμο βιβλίο, όπου οι ήρωες αντιμετωπίζουν πολλά ανθρώπινα θέματα (δεν είναι όλων η ζωή εύκολη πάντα και σπαρμένη με ροδοπέταλα). Επίσης, τονίζεται η απώλεια και οι τρόποι (ή μη) αντιμετώπισής της, και θίγεται πιο έντονα από ποτέ η παρουσία των εθνικιστικών κομμάτων στη Σκανδιναβία (μαζί με τη βλακεία που τους δέρνει). Α, σε ρόλο έκπληξη ο Γκέρινγκ!!!!!

Ο Άγγελος θανάτου είναι μια πολύ καλή πρόταση σκανδιναβικής λογοτεχνίας, κατά τη γνώμη μου ισάξιο, αν όχι καλύτερο από το παιδί από τη Γερμανία

Η Camilla Läckberg αποτελεί ένα από τα κορυφαία ονόματα της σύγχρονης αστυνομικής λογοτεχνίας, αλλά και ένα από τα πλέον αγαπημένα στη χώρα μας. Αυτό που εντυπωσιάζει στην περίπτωσή της, είναι το ότι πρόκειται γυναίκα, και χωρίς καμία φαλλοκρατική ή φεμινιστική διάθεση -δεν είναι ώρα για να πάρω θέση πάνω στο συγκεκριμένο ζήτημα- δεν γίνεται να μην το σχολιάσω. Όχι όταν η αστυνομική λογοτεχνία -πόσο μάλλον αυτή που είναι σκανδιναβικής προέλευσης- είναι ανδροκρατούμενη, και η λαμπερή ύπαρξη μιας γυναίκας ανάμεσά τους δεν γίνεται να μην ξεχωρίσει, έστω κι αν και η ίδια ακολουθεί την τεχνική των περισσότερων ομότεχνών της κοινής καταβολής, δηλαδή, έχει δημιουργήσει τη δικιά της σειρά βιβλίων, που ακούει στο γενικό τίτλο "Fjällbacka", χωρίς όμως να είναι σειρά με την αυστηρή έννοια της λέξης, αφού έχουμε να κάνουμε με αυτόνομες ιστορίες. Αυτό, όμως, θα το αναλύσουμε αργότερα.

Σαράντα χρόνια πριν, λίγο έξω από το Φιελμπάκα, μια ολόκληρη οικογένεια εξαφανίζεται χωρίς ν' αφήσει πίσω της το παραμικρό ίχνος. Το μοναδικό μέλος της που είναι σίγουρα εν ζωή, είναι η μικρή κόρη της οικογένειας, μόλις ενός έτους, που την έχουν αφήσει πίσω, στο οικοτροφείο που διεύθυνε ο πατέρας της. Στο σήμερα, η Έμπα, αποφασίζει να επιστρέψει στο Βάλε, αλλά και στο οικοτροφείο, θέλοντας να ξεκινήσει μια νέα ζωή, αφήνοντας πίσω της το παρελθόν και ξεχνώντας όλα εκείνα που την πλήγωσαν. Όμως, όπως όλα δείχνουν, μια βαριά κληρονομιά θανάτου έχει πέσει στους ώμους της. Μια εμπρηστική επίθεση με στόχο την ίδια, θα θέσει σε λειτουργία τις έρευνες τις αστυνομίας, οι οποίες θα φέρουν στο φως στοιχεία που μπορεί να συνδέονται με την εξαφάνιση της οικογένειας της Έμπα, αλλά και με τις αλήθειες που -ίσως- αυτή να έκρυβε.

Όπως και στις προηγούμενες ιστορίες της Läckberg, έτσι και στην συγκεκριμένη, πρωταγωνιστής είναι ο ντετέκτιβ Πάτρικ ο οποίος, αρχικά, αναλαμβάνει να ερευνήσει την εγκατάλειψη της Έμπα τόσα χρόνια πριν. Η σύζυγός του, Ερίκα, την οποία επίσης γνωρίσαμε μέσα από τα προηγούμενα βιβλία της συγγραφέως, εμπλέκεται στην υπόθεση περισσότερο από κάθε άλλη φορά, μια τροπή που παρουσιάζει ιδιαίτερο ενδιαφέρον και που νομίζω πως αξίζει να αναλύσει ο κάθε αναγνώστης, προσπαθώντας να κατανοήσει τα κίνητρα που οδήγησαν την Läckberg στην απόφαση αυτή. Προσωπικά, θεωρώ πως η Ερίκα, που είναι κι εκείνη συγγραφέας, αποτελεί το alter ego της, και δεδομένου πως οι συγγραφείς γοητεύονται από αληθινές ιστορίες στις οποίες βρίσκουν τις εμπνεύσεις τους, δεν θα μπορούσε να μείνει μακριά και αμέτοχη. Πόσο μάλλον στην συγκεκριμένη περίπτωση που πολλά, θεωρητικά ασύνδετα γεγονότα, φαίνεται να περιπλέκονται σε έναν ιστό που είναι δύσκολο να ξεχωρίσεις την αρχή και το τέλος του.

Η πλοκή της ιστορίας αυτής είναι εξαιρετικά πολύπλοκη, όχι μόνο επειδή δεκάδες χαρακτήρες κάνουν την εμφάνισή τους, και όλοι είναι εξίσου ύποπτοι μέχρι τέλους, αλλά επειδή υπάρχουν τα στοιχεία εκείνα που αναφέρονται σε γεγονότα που, χρονικά, δεν θα μπορούσαν να συνδέονται και όμως μοιάζουν δεμένα με ένα αόρατα νήμα που κρατάει τις απαντήσεις και μπορεί να αποκαλύψει τα καλά κρυμμένα μυστικά του παρελθόντος. Ουσιαστικά, η Läckberg, έχει φτιάξει ένα παζλ χαρακτήρων και μικρών ιστοριών, καλώντας τους αναγνώστες να τα τοποθετήσουν στις σωστές θέσεις προκειμένου να λύσουν τους μικρούς γρίφους που αφορούν τον καθένα εμπλεκόμενο χωριστά, για να φτάσουν στο να λύσουν τον μεγάλο γρίφο που θα τους οδηγήσει στην μεγάλη αποκάλυψη. Αυτό, όμως, δεν σημαίνει πως όλα τελειώνουν έτσι απλά, αφού ακόμα και στην τελευταία σελίδα, η συγγραφέας, επιλέγει να μας κλείσει πονηρά το μάτι αφήνοντάς μας ανοιχτό, ακόμα και στο τέλος, ένα παραθυράκι που ίσως να άλλαζε τα πράγματα.

Ένα κατά συρροή δολοφόνος που διέπραττε τα εγκλήματά του το 1908, η εξαφάνιση μιας ολόκληρης οικογένειας -χωρίς προφανή αίτια- το 1974, η εγκατάλειψη ενός παιδιού και η επίθεση κάποιου ενάντια σε αυτό σαράντα χρόνια μετά. Γεγονότα ασύνδετα, που ο τόπος και ο χρόνος δεν θα μπορούσαν να φέρουν κοντά και όμως, η αλήθεια, αν και καλά κρυμμένη, είναι πολύ διαφορετική. Στο όγδοο βιβλίο της σειράς αυτής, η Läckberg δεν αφηγείται απλά μια αστυνομική ιστορία, αλλά συνθέτει το ψυχογράφημα μιας ολόκληρης κοινωνίας, βάζοντας στο μικροσκόπιο ανθρώπους και προσωπικότητες, θέλοντας να δείξει πόσο εύκολο είναι να φτάσει κανείς στο έγκλημα, αρκεί να βρεθεί στα όρια, έστω κι αν αυτά είναι προσωπικά, έστω κι αν οι αποφάσεις πυροδοτούνται από διαφορετικά κίνητρα. Διαβάστε το γιατί αξίζει, αλλά και γιατί θα σας προβληματίσει, όχι μόνο για το ποια είναι η ζωή μας σήμερα, αλλά για το ποιοι είμαστε εμείς οι ίδιοι.

Life is a bitch, έχει πει μια σοφή ψυχή και δες τώρα που αναγκάστηκα ν’αφήσω στην άκρη τον Θαφόν (ποιον τον Θαφόν; - που θα μου πέσει ο ουρανός στο κεφάλι) και να πιάσω τη Lackberg γιατί το μόνο που μπορούσα να έχω μαζί μου ήταν ένα αλαφρύ ποκετάκι βιβλίο…
Έτσι άδικη λοιπόν είναι η ζωή και βρέθηκα και πάλι να πίνω τον καφέ μου παρέα με το γνωστό ζεύγος Πάτρικ κι Έρρικας, πού αλλού στη Φιελμπάκα; όπου σε λίγο δεν θα έχει μείνει κουνούπι ζωντανό.
Το έγκλημα αυτή τη φορά είναι ολίγον παλαιακόν (έχουν περάσει τριάντα χρόνια) αλλά ένας εμπρησμός, το βγάζει στη φόρα και είναι έγκλημα με τα όλα του γιατί μιλάμε για την ‘εξαφάνιση’ μιας ολόκληρης οικογένειας… κι ένα μωρό που μένει αμανάτι να κλαίει και να χτυπιέται μέχρι να έρθουν οι αστυνομικοί να το μαζέψουν…
Το στυλ της Λάκμπεργκ παραμένει το ίδιο γνωστό ύφος, γεγονότα του παρελθόντος που έχουν άμεση σχέση με το έγκλημα του τώρα, μπρος – πίσω, οι αγωνίες και οι καθημερινότητες των ηρώων, η πεθερά, η αδερφή, τα ανίψια, τα παιδιά και όλο το σόι… Βάζει κι ένα θέμα κοινωνικού προβληματισμού (ως συνήθως) κι αυτή τη φορά είναι η άνοδος του εθνικοσοσιαλισμού κλπ κλπ…
Ομολογώ πως μου άρεσε πολύ περισσότερο από τα δύο προηγούμενά της τουλάχιστον, η ιστορία του παρελθόντος με όλη αυτή τη σάγκα των γυναικών ήταν εθιστική και υπήρχε μία σχετική αγωνία να δεις το γιατί και το πως του εγκλήματος… ωστόσο η ιστορία έμοιαζε και ολίγον με ελβετικό τυρί, εκείνο με τις μεγάλες τρύπες, το οποίο μπορεί να είναι νοστιμότατο αλλά του λείπουν κομμάτια, έτσι κι εγώ δεν πολυκατάλαβα στο τέλος τι ακριβώς έπαιξε με τον Καρλ, οι πράξεις της Άννας ήταν αλλού γι’αλλού – εντελώς αδικαιολόγητες, το δράμα του Μάρτιν δεν ξέρω γιατί μπήκε, η δε guest εμφάνιση του Γκέρινγκ (του γνωστού ναζί αξιωματικού) ενδιαφέρουσα μεν ελλιπής δε…
Ας μην μακρυγορώ για ποκετάκι μια χαρά ήτανε, page turner μέχρι τα 2/3 ήτανε, προς το τέλος το ‘χασε ολίγον αλλά για ένα light αστυνομικό μια χαρά ήτανε…
Πάντως ρε Καμίλα, μήπως πρέπει να ξεφύγεις λίγο από αυτό το μοντέλο; Οκ, πετυχημένη συνταγή δεν την αλλάζεις αλλά μήπως γίνεσαι ολίγον προβλέψιμη;;;

Άλλο ένα απίθανο,εκπληκτικό,χορταστικό,ανατρεπτικό μυθιστόρημα από τη λατρεμένη μου μαστόρισσα της αστυνομικής λογοτεχνίας!Η 9η ιστορία της με τους τόσο γνώριμους ήρωες και το αγαπημένο περιβάλλον,που σε κάνουν να νιώθεις πως επιστρέφεις σε παλιά λημέρια και συναντάς τους παλιούς σου φίλους.Εκεί όμως τελειώνει και η ομοιότητα ανάμεσα στα βιβλία της - η κάθε ιστορία είναι τόσο μοναδικά ξεχωριστή,δείγμα του αστείρευτου ταλέντου της Lackberg να "γεννάει" τόσα εγκλήματα,τόσο διαφορετικά μεταξύ τους,σε ένα τόσο μικρό ψαροχώρι!
Το "Αγγελος Θανάτου" είναι μια ιστορία γεμάτη κρυμμένα μυστικά,οικογενειακές ιστορίες που μπλέκουν αριστοτεχνικά το παρελθόν με το παρόν τους,πολυδιάστατους ήρωες,οι οποίοι κουβαλούν ο καθένας τη δική του σκοτεινή κληρονομιά,και πολλές ακόμα λεπτομέρειες που όλες μαζί συνθέτουν ένα απίστευτο παζλ,που κρατάει τον αναγνώστη σε ευχάριστη αγωνία για 552 σελίδες.Και,όπως πάντα,ακόμα και στην τελευταία σελίδα,η συγγραφέας μας κλείνει πονηρά το μάτι με μια τελευταία ανατροπή,για να μας δώσει να καταλάβουμε πως πάντα υπάρχει κάτι ακόμα να ανακαλύψεις σε μια ιστορία,ακόμα κι αν θεωρείς πως έχεις ξεσκεπάσει όλες τις πτυχές της.Διαβάστε το και θα το αγαπήσετε! :)

This is the fifth (out of order) book I've read in this series and it's among the worst.

Don't get me wrong, the mystery that happened more than thirty years ago is really well-written and so are all those chapters relating events from the past. But that's only about two-thirds of the book. The rest of the novel is, simply put, soap-opera-tier drama. Out of 500 pages that this book has, it could have easily been edited into a 300-350 page book if you trimmed all the tedious, non-plot-related shenanigans.

Sure, I love myself some depth when it comes to the detectives/police and their family members. It's just that the characters have become some sort of parody of themselves by now. I get it. Patrik is oh-so-competent as an investigator and doesn't involve himself too much in his family life. Erica (who I suspect is some sort of Mary Sue version of the author) is oh-so-successful as a crime writer and has the perfect cardboard-cut children and everyone is so nice and receptive to her questioning. She has a knack for getting into trouble, teeheehee, by making stupid decisions such as stealing just the right note from this guy she was interviewing while he wasn't paying attention or by sabotaging the official police inquiry because - because why not? She is going to escape unscathed anyway because she has such a perfect plot armor. Anna, Erica's sister, is the worst self-destructive, insipid little woman I've read in a long time. She has the date her abusive ex-husband died set as her phone PIN code. Are you kidding me?! Patrik's mother is an annoying old lady, the chief of police is an incompetent babbling idiot, the pregnant police lady is pregnant etc. The only one who gets some character development is the old policeman Gosta, except it was so obvious from the very beginning that he was the one sending the yearly letters, that I couldn't help but roll my eyes that it took the other policemen 450 pages to find out - and that was because Gosta himself told them!

Oh, it's a pity! The characters that are unique to this volume (the ones involved directly with the mystery) are really, really interesting in comparison. However, I got the feeling this book was trying to attempt too much. There was the current mystery (which was pretty obvious as a solution...), intertwined with a mystery that had happened back in 1974 (which was the main focus of the book and kept me interested until the end), plus another plot strand that began around 1900 and detailed the lives of a woman, her daughter, her granddaughter and so on... (really intense as a piece of writing; probably my favorite part of the book), plus some references to Nazism, neo-Nazism and a Holocaust museum, plus the tedious domestic dramas mentioned before. All a bit too much, too incoherent, not tied by some central theme or common moral argument.

Add to that the weird Scooby-Doo writing where the characters involved in the detective work already know about something and allude to it, but the book doesn't tell you the important piece of information until you're at least a few hundred pages in and suddenly it's plot relevant. As a reader, I feel cheated, because it's not a fair mystery - I cannot tell what happened if data is intentionally obscured from me. Oh, I don't mind it if vital pieces of information are kept subtly hidden by the guilty/involved party and the detectives just can't find them right now. That's legit mystery fiction. But what the author does in this book is clumsy, soap-opera-style writing, fitting in well with the excessive drama.

Still, I keep coming back to this series. I'll probably read some more if given the chance, because like I said, while the domestic affairs of the main characters are annoying to the core, the mysteries are really catchy.

A narrativa em múltiplas linhas temporais entrelaça os acontecimentos do passado e do presente. É uma história sombria e cheia de suspense, cujo quebra-cabeças se revela lentamente. Não foi difícil perceber o que tinha acontecido, no entanto, não consegui desvendar a forma como aconteceu.

Es el octavo Libro que leo de la maravillosa saga de Camilla, éste junto con La Princesa de Hielo y Las Huellas Imborrables, mis favoritos.
La historia que hay detrás, lo que explica el porqué de la desaparición de una familia un sábado de Pascua es tremendo, escalofriante y digno de releer.
La novela tiene un buen ritmo, se lee con facilidad, con un alto nivel de adicción y con un amor en aumento hacia los personajes secundarios de la saga, adoro a Melberg pero esta novela está hecha para querer a Gösta .
Ya solo me falta uno, para acabar con la saga aunque la autora continua y yo espero que la autora de algún giro y nos sorprenda un poco en las siguientes entregas...

I couldn't keep going with this one. The writing was childish, to the point where I wanted to get a red pen out and go to town - that may be an issue with the translation, not the text but still was annoying. The premise was really intriguing but the book was so slow to get to the point. The supposedly action-heavy scenes were tensionless and threatless. The characters were boring or annoying. I couldn't work out whether this was meant to be a serious crime thriller (as it seems to be have been marketed as) or as a quirky/comedic crime story like Agatha Raisin, Death in Paradise etc, and a weird combination of both was not what I wanted.

Me ha encantado cada vez que leo un libro de esta saga me gusta un poquito más que el anterior. Esta cogiendo muy buen ritmo la serie.
Es un libro corto en comparación con otros libros de este genero y todo lo que hay en el aunque parezca que sea de relleno o que no tenga importancia si que la tiene, porque aunque hay muchos personajes y parece que no están relacionados si que lo están y al final todo encaja y al final se disfruta haciendo teorías intentando relacionar los personajes con el crimen y la historia.
En cuanto a este libro me gusto mucho y me sorprendió el final porque no me lo esperaba eso si al final una parte de la resolución del crimen me pareció algo floja y por eso no le puse las 5 estrellas pero por lo demás lo disfrute mucho.

So much going on its such a busy book, starts out normal enough setting building then wham your back in time with uncle gory, sister slaughter. Stories within stories a raft of characters mothers, sisters, lovers former lovers it's like plonking down in front of soap opera and getting dragged along like a cork in a rushing river. The main murders linked to the present day situation of a young couple trying to renovate an inherited old house whilst dealing or not dealing with the loss of their child. Has themes that hits home and smacks you about. Has child abuse, spouse abuse, murder, torture, infanticide, very gruelling in parts.

Think this is one of her better ones. It has several strands, including some serious ones (neo-Nazism and Nazi sympathies from the war being one). A few themes have had an outing before, including the idea of a real person from history not only appearing but having a part in the story (as an ancestor through an illegitimate line), which is a bit cheeky. In this case, it's Goering, whose Swedish connections are embellished for the story, culminating in an explanation for the (genuine) two possible sets of human remains identified as Carin Goering, one of which is linked to this story. Unfortunately, we know about it and know the explanation but the actual relatives in this book do not, as the story is dismissed by everyone who hears it(and it is never discovered). The central part of this story concerns a Marie-Celeste like disappearance in 1974: the table set for Easter lunch, but a whole family vanished during their Easter meal and no trace of them was found at the time. The only one left was a very small girl. She has now returned hoping to renovate the house, but new events suggest a link to the past. Another strand from the past is the story of a murderous baby-farmer who was caught and executed in the early years of the 20th century. In the present day there is a right-wing political party and its leader with a journalist hot on his heels, and then of course as always there are the complications of the personal lives of the police team, the Hedstrom family and Erica's sister Anna (the latter is rather annoying). It's quite complicated, and some of it stretches belief a bit (especially some of the baddies!), but I enjoyed this story and while I got quite close to working out what had happened I didn't work it all out. (It seem a bit much to saddle someone who's supposed to be a good character with not one but two mass murderers as ancestors. But still, perhaps it's possible!)

In this review, I'll just say the negative points because all the other reviews are full of admiration for this book, and I am not.

Mrs. Läckberg does not explain anything, and that is what had the most negative impact for me. These are the 2 examples that annoyed me the most:

First of all, there was some "threatening letter" sent to one of the main characters that keeps being mentioned, yet THE BOOK NEVER TELLS YOU WHAT IT SAYS EXACTLY. They mention the handwriting, the type of card, EVERYTHING except the important stuff


Also, there is some lady that has many scars "due to some horrible thing" and who was married to some guy who "ruined her life" and "did unspeakable things". In fact, basically the only thing this particular lady did in the entire book was complain about this man and mope around uselessly like the pathetic worm that she is, and SHE NEVER TELLS US WHERE SHE GOT THOSE SCARS AND HOW HER LIFE WAS RUINED. I don't know, maybe it said it in one of her previous books or something, but it left me wanting to burn the book in rage.


The book is also not very well structured. The Point Of View (POV) kept changing, but they were basically just separated into different paragraphs on the same page, barely letting you know that it is indeed now focused on a different character. The fact that none of the characters were particularly memorable (all the girls were just crazy, crying messes and most of the boys were either some sort of psychopath or had no personality) made it that much more confusing.


I did like how the author would sometimes give us glimpses into the past, but other than that, I was disappointed in this book.

Camilla Lackberg è ormai per me una certezza: quando inizio un suo libro so già che ne resterò completamente catturata.
E questo volume è stato decisamente l’ennesima conferma.

La storia è intrigante: sin dalle primissime righe uno è completamente catturato da tutto quello che sta accadendo. Ma il meglio avviene nella seconda metà, quando i vari puntini incominciano ad unirsi: a quel punto è davvero impossibile non essere completamente presi dal racconto e uno non è che voglia andare avanti, ma deve, e la sola idea di dormire scompare completamente dalla testa. Pur di sapere che cosa stava succedendo stanotte sono andata avanti a leggere fino alle 2 di notte. Ovviamente poi stamattina un po’ mi sono pentita di questa mia scelta (perché mi sarebbe piaciuto riuscire a tenere gli occhi aperti), ma nemmeno troppo.

La trama, come dicevo è davvero molto interessante, ogni pagina è un nuovo colpo di scena per non parlare di quello finale! Avevo alcuni sospetti su quello che fosse accaduto e che stesse accadendo, ma certi dettagli mi hanno lasciato a bocca aperta… no, proprio non ci sarei mai arrivata da sola.

Per quel che riguarda i protagonisti, ovviamente i due protagonisti, Patrick ed Erica, mi sono piaciuti, ma arrivati ormai all’ottavo libro loro sono per me una certezza.
Per quel che invece riguarda i personaggi secondari introdotti in questo romanzo, devo dire che mi sono piaciuti molto anche loro. Li ho trovati tutti molto intriganti e con delle storie davvero particolari, di cui volevo continuamente sapere di più.

Nel complesso un giallo davvero ben scritto e piacevolissimo da leggere.
Mi sa che continuerò con il prossimo molto presto!

Durante grande parte do livro achei que a autora não iria conseguir surpreender no final, mas a verdade é que me surpreendeu. Os possíveis culpados eram poucos, o destino da família também era bastante previsível e a certa altura temi que fosse como no livro anterior, em que foi possível identificar o culpado bastante cedo. Mas não, ainda que dentro do esperado, foi uma surpresa saber quem foi responsável pelo que aconteceu.

This is another of Ms Lackberg's stories starring Erica and Patrick, altho in this book like others, they are not really the focus. It is about an old crime in the.area thT went unsolved for many years and which rekindles when one of the victims re emerges in the town. The book in my opinion was not as good as some of her others, but entertaining enough for the light end of mystery readers.

Talvez o livro menos bem conseguido de Camilla. O final consegue superar o resto do livro, daí as 4*. Conseguimos sempre ser cativados com os finais surpreendentes destes livros. No entanto, até lá se chegar, parece-me que cada vez mais há muita informação desnecessária e, a certa altura, senti que o livro estava a ser algo maçador. Espero que o próximo seja melhor...

5 huge stars for Buried Angels. Camilla Lackberg's Patrik Hedstrom series was my first and still favorite crime series. It's been awhile since I read one of her books and Buried Angels reminds me so much why I love this series. In 1974, a family vanishes from their home at a boy's school on an island. The only one left is one year old Ebba. The case has never been solved. Many years later Ebba and her husband Tobias return after the loss of their child to refurbish the island home. An arson attempt on the house while they are there brings Patrik Hedstrom to investigate.

The novel switches between short chapters on the history of Ebba's family and the present case. Lackberg always does an excellent job blending the past and the present. As usual, there are lots of characters and threads and Lackberg merges them all beautifully in the end. There are many characters that are in all of Lackberg's books, so I think they are best appreciated when read in order to appreciate the back stories. This is #8 and I have loved everyone of the books. This is a perfect series for an introduction to crime fiction and is the first that I always recommend.

Κοίτα να δεις!! Ένα αστυνομικό μυθιστόρημα που πραγματικά η ανατροπή στο φινάλε ήταν τελείως απρόσμενη! Δεν είχαμε κανένα στοιχείο, καμιά προειδοποίηση..Μπράβο Καμίλλα, αυτή τη φορά μας έβαλες τα γυαλιά!
Επίσης, μου άρεσε πολύ η πολιτική τοποθέτηση της Λάκμπεργκ και η παρουσίαση του εθνικιστικού φαινομένου. Να ανοίγουν λίγο τα ματάκια κάποιων-κάποιων...Η συγγραφέας περνάει μηνύματα, θίγει συμπεριφορές και απόψεις που, δυστυχώς, πλέον είναι περισσότερο διαδεδομένες από ποτέ.
Όμως θα βάλω 3 αστεράκια (χαριστικά δε βάζω 2, γιατί είπαμε.....φοβερό φινάλε!)!
Και γιατί θα βάλω 3 (και όχι 4); Μισό να τα πάρω απ' την αρχή...
Πρώτον, το θέμα των γονιών που χάνουν το παιδί τους....το είδαμε, το ξανάδαμε, συγκινηθήκαμε, μπορεί και να δακρύσαμε λίγο, αλλά...enough! Το προηγούμενο βιβλίο (Ο φαροφύλακας ) είχε να κάνει με τον πόνο και το πένθος της Άννας. Εκτός αυτού βλέπαμε παράλληλα και θλιβερά στιγμιότυπα της ζωής των 2 γονιών του θύματος. Το ίδιο μοτίβο υπήρχε και στο Οικογενειακά μυστικά. ΦΤΑΝΕΙ!!!
Δεύτερον, οι ποικίλες αναφορές στον Β' Παγκόσμιο και τον Χίτλερ. "Το παιδί από τη Γερμανία" είναι το αγαπημένο μου της Λάκμπεργκ. Δε θέλω καμία άλλη αναφορά στον πόλεμο. Κάτι τέλειο δε το πειράζουμε!
Τρίτον, η Ερίκα. Με ενοχλεί. Δε τη συμπαθώ πια. Σε κάθε βιβλίο πρέπει να παρακολουθήσουμε τουλάχιστον έναν γκρινιάρικο εσωτερικό μονόλογο σχετικά με τον Πάτρικ που δουλεύει πιο πολύ και αυτή "φορτώνεται" τα παιδιά και κυρίως....αχ....ΕΙΝΑΙ ΧΑΖΗ!ΔΕΝ ΕΧΕΙ ΣΥΝΑΙΣΘΗΣΗ ΤΟΥ ΚΙΝΔΥΝΟΥ.Είμαι τόσο συγχυσμένη!
Τέταρτον, εκεί που πήγα λίγο να χαρώ με την Άννα και το γεγονός ότι θέλει να πάρει τη ζωή στα χέρια της, πάει και ....κάνει βλακεία(για να μην πω τίποτα πιο χοντρό).
Πέμπτον, θα ήθελα να παρακολουθήσει περισσότερο τη ζωή του Μάρτιν και της Πία. Ελπίζω στο επόμενο βιβλίο να αφήσει η συγγραφέας λίγο τα κουτσομπολιά για την Άννα και τον Νταν και να ασχοληθεί με αυτό το τόσο τραγικό αλλά και τόσο συνηθισμένο πλέον φαινόμενο, που μαστίζει.
