"Not coyote, @sshole. Red wolf."

No matter how much I adore this series or how much I anticipated this book or how much I wanted to read about a red wolf shifter, it took me a while to finish it.
And that was because the beginning of the book is so slow. There are a lot of explanations about the shifters and the shifters’ towns and their behavior. Maybe a small prologue in the next books from now on would be better for the new fans. For me, some of the explanations especially about the shifters’ behavior were not really necessary.

So, during the first chapters, I missed the tension and the humor some of the previous favorite novels have.

Moreover I definitely disliked Jaycee, the leopard shifter and I was not really warm to Dimitri, the red wolf shifter. We have met them both briefly in the “White Tiger” where Jaycee wanted someone she could not have (Kendrick) and she was a completely bitch towards his future mate and Dimitri obviously wanted Jaycee hopelessly.

Things will be smooth-running really quickly in this story with Jaycee forgetting about Kendrick, becoming a close friend of his mate and thinking of the mate-claim by Dimitri.

From Chapter Six onwards, the real adventure begins. And I loved it!

Dimitri and Jaycee will need to go to New Orleans and investigate a group of shifters that behave strangely.
There, they will meet
-Ben again (who desperately needs his book and his HEA),
-the group of shifters that believe in goddess but they do not exactly behave accordingly
-their mysterious leader and bear shifter, Brice
-the remarkable sentient lonely HOUSE with the strong personality that we met in “Wild Things”.

Thus slowly but surely, I was lost once more in the incredible world of powerful shifters who were forced to wear collars in order to be controlled by the clueless humans. I was lost in the magical world of arrogant Fae who like to treat Shifters like animals. I met again old characters (Tiger, Zander and Dylan) and I was introduced to new ones (Lady Aisling, Angus and Casey).

And I started believing in the Happily Ever After of the lonesome and scarred Dimitri and the difficult-to-trust-and-to-show-love Jaycee.

Dimitri only looked at her. He didn’t reach for her, only watched, his gaze intent on her.
“What?” Jaycee asked irritably when he didn’t move. Why didn’t he grab her, try to kiss her as he had at the club last night-anything?
“I was thinking how beautiful you look in the sunshine,” Dimitri said.
No stammering, no pause while he struggled over a word.
“Don’t,” Jaycee said quickly.
Dimitri frowned. “Don’t w-what?”
“Melt my heart.”
Slowly Dimitri reached out and placed his hand between her breasts. “So you do have a h-heart in there?”

It is a great Friends-To-Lovers story. The ending was more than satisfying.

“We knew,” Dimitri said, kissing her hair. “We just took our time admitting it. At least, you did. I always said you were the one for me.”

Jennifer Ashley has a way of sucking you into these stories that span across many books in a way I find so hard to resist. Though the book can be standalone, the context that reading previous in the series brings adds value to the experience.

I admit that in "White Tiger", Kendrick's story, Jaycee was firmly set into my least favorite characters in the series. I wasn't all that convinced going into this that I would enjoy her tale. After reading, she isn't one of my favorites, but I feel grateful to learn more about who she is and what motivates her.

The story brought out some traits in Jaycee that I appreciated and made her vulnerable in ways she hadn't shown before. It also tried to explain away some elements that I had a problem with and though I appreciate the effort, it didn't convince me. More to come in the safety section re: my meaning.

Dmitri was unique and interesting in his own right. Everything from the way he handled Jaycee to his stutter made for an interesting package. I liked this imperfect hero and enjoyed the contrast he offered the series.

The plot was intricate and a lot of effort went into the imagery. The writing was very solid and reflected the writer's attention to detail. All in all I enjoyed myself.

Safety: Though they knew that they were mates early on, they both tried to ignore the pull and saw and were intimate with other people. This was AFTER Jaycee's first time being with Dimitri. She appeared to have more of a "history" with others than him. She also fancied herself in love with someone else.

When an author writes a series that keeps going it's hard to keep it fresh whilst at the same time expanding the overall arc. Well Ms Ashley has cracked it here by giving us characters we know and yet at the same time pushing them into the unknown. Dimitri is a rare Red Wolf who has grown up uncollared within Kendrick's pack. His origins are unknown as his memories are hazy but one thing Dimitri has no doubt about are his feelings for Jaycee, the cutest leopard he's ever seen and also one who absolutely takes no bull from anyone! So he's mate claimed her but whilst he waits for Jaycee to decide the couple are tasked with infiltrating a group who seem set to cause trouble which could threaten the freedom of all shifters!
Oo what a conundrum the author poses for this pair! Best friends and now lovers but can Jaycee really give up her freedom ? There's obviously so much love and trust between them but that final step just might be a step too far. Still with their undercover assignment in the most quirky sentient house Dimitri and Jaycee have lots to keep them on their toes or is that claws? Getting involved with shifters who seem more than obsessed by the Goddess leads them to discover a link to the Fae. Only shifters have come a long way since they were Battle Beasts that served the Fae but what if there are some who still think the old ways are the best? Dimitri and Jaycee will face their worst enemy and also confront the past that Dimitri has forgotten .
I really enjoyed this and thought bringing the Fae into it really opened up this series for future possibilities . It's been fun learning about how the humans view them in previous books but obviously as they were originally servents of the Fae I've always been curious about just what has and indeed what could happen . Still this is a romance too so it would be remiss of me to ignore that . Dimitri is a sweetie and his love for Jaycee is palpable. Jaycee is so fiercely protective of him I was truly surprised that she wavered so long but their relationship is without doubt solid. Yes I got swept away by this book and love that it's ended in a way that means certain characters will return but for now it's a happy union for Dimitri and Jaycee which leaves this reader smiling
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and is my honest opinion

Red Wolf is a story that I have been eagerly anticipating since reading White Tiger. Red Wolf  is the tenth installment of a fantastic and intriguing shifter series. It has been quite interesting to see how Jennifer Ashley has developed this series over the years. In Red Wolf, we have a friends to lovers trope. Our hero Dimitri and our heroine Jaycee, are more alike than they realize. They both ended up as orphans, and not fitting with the norm even for shifters. Dimitri is a red wolf which is very rare, and also suffers from a stutter. Jaycee is a feline shifter, is the most loyal of Dimitri's defenders. Dimitri at the beginning of this story, has issued a mate claim on Jaycee. And right in the middle of their little tango of mating dance here, they are sent to go on important but very dangerous mission. Their mission is to go undercover, and help protect the uncollared shifters. As Dimitri and Jaycee go on this mission together, they are also faced with secrets of the past, dangerous dealing of the fae, and a dangerous enemy that is cunning and one that they won't see coming.

Red Wolf is quite the story we have here. I have always enjoyed Dimitri and Jaycee especially from seeing them from White Tiger. Dimitri and Jaycee actually makes a fabulous couple. They are both two of the best trackers, they both have dominant personalities which delivers some unique dynamics in their relationship. Now I will say that the hero in this story was quite different from the others that we have seen. One, that I really enjoyed seeing was seeing him struggle with his stutter, and having Jaycee finish his sentences. Quite frankly, it was just darling seeing how well they were connected with each other. Dimitri has never really been accepted by shifter society. It broke my heart at times, seeing how they viewed him, always judging him for being different. And we do some great inner strengths that come from his character. Jaycee is quite the independent heroine. She cares deeply for Dimitri, but she also doesn't want to lose who she is if she accepts the mating with Dimitri. When it comes down to the important decision, she starts to realize she has always wanted what Dimitri has seeked from her too.
I'm not a little cub, you have to placate. I'm not the Lupine just past his transition who wanted sex with you before his craving for you killed him. I mate claimed you, Jaycee, my best friend. Not because I thought it would make you obedient--hell, I'm not that deluded. I did it because I fucking wanted to. I claimed you because of your sassy mouth. Because your hair shines like gold in the sunshine, because as a leopard, you can hang upside down from a tress, for the Goddes' sake. Because your eyes look like topaz, because you can kick the ass of any Shifter who gets in your way. Because you jumped into the fight club ring to keep me from being trounced by a Lupine who tried to tranq me. Because you're hot, you drive me fucking crazy, and I don't want any other asshole Shifter.
Jayce has a very proud and stubborn nature at times, which tends to get her into trouble and she is so impatient at times. It was pretty entertaining, but then she is a feline, and they aren't always the most patient of creatures.  We also get some fabulous fun times with our old or new favorites such as 1. Ben, who I seriously----like REALLY he needs his own book and NOW because with each installment I just fall more in love with his character and want him to find his own HEA 2. Tiger---can I ever get enough of this lovely man? He is the most unique out of all the characters Ashley has written, and he always brings a smile to my face. 3. Kendrick and Addy and their charming cubs. My goodness I just fell in love with this couple again. They had me laughing so hard in this one. 4. Dylan, because he is always interfering and rude at times, but so SMART and what a fighter.

The story line is a pretty thrilling and exciting adventure, and takes us places that we don't expect us to go. From a mysterious haunted house that protects those it cares about, to a strange shifter clan that have unique characters and the mysterious and dangerous lands of the fae. Red Wolf is a story that definitely led through some dark and dangerous roads, and it just led me on a great intriguing mystery. The romance that builds between Dimitri and Jaycee balances so well with the plot twists. What I have always admired about Jennifer Ashley's books, is the well balanced stories she delivers, and Red Wolf is no different. Dimitri and Jaycee are a fantastic couple, they kick ass booty together, and have powerful chemistry. The way that they fight together, and also how they tend to fight FOR each other is brilliantly written.

Red Wolf is a well written shifter romance that brings together elements of never ending plot twists, a engaging dynamic romance, sizzling chemistry, and enough action and intrigue to pull you to the edge of your seats. A WILD RIDE!!

Dimitri & Jaycee, two of Kendrick's best trackers who are also tied in a mate claim, agree to infiltrate a splinter group of shifters suspected to have aligned with the Fae though it's believed these shifters are being coerced for reasons unknown.

Traveling to New Orleans, the two are invited to join a group lead by bear shifter, Brice, who claims to be blessed by the Goddess and those in his care thus protected. All that is asked in return is to embrace the future accepting changes that the Goddess demands. One of which includes severing their mate claim to accept others.

New Orleans, urban legend and unexplained supernatural central, suspected home to werewolves, vampires, zombies, ghosts, and all things weird and crazy, the two need to find out what's really going on or chalk one up to unexplained urban legend.

* * *

10th installment in the popular Shifters Unbound series featuring Dimitri, Russian Red Fox shifter, and Jaycee, feline shifter.

I enjoyed and appreciated this story as I have so many other installments of the series. Each goes deeper into revealing facets of the overall series plot line while featuring a new couple who find their HEA. Problem is that the individual couples are starting to blur and the individual installments follow a standard successful formula that do included tweaks and surprises but otherwise...... I really want the overall series to transition into a new direction as it's becoming a bit depressing that shifters haven't been able to win against the establishment. Battles have been won but no meaningful progression on the war itself. At some point there has to be meaningful progression vs crisis management in this whole Shifters being contained and thus controlled scenario.

Totally a fan of bringing back characters from previous installments which is why I wouldn't recommend this be read as a stand alone. A new character Aisling I hope to see more of in the future. Stand outs who made this story shine (secondary characters) for me include Ben, Angus, and (vague reference) the New Orlean's house.

Pleasant contemporary paranormal erotic romance that fans of the series will appreciate as it continues the series and gives fan their fix to load up on until the next installment is released.

Red Wolf is gripping, exciting, nerve wracking, and had me falling more in love with this series. I relished this installment.

Jaycee is strong, capable, and reluctant to accept the mate claim. Dimitri is strong, sexy, and has a stutter which only adds to his character. The reluctant's that Jaycee has was handled well and the stutter only added to Dimitri's unique character aspect. The romance is sweet and these two worked well together.

I absolutely loved returning to the sentient house. We got a small taste of this unique house in Wild Things, so to come back and see more. It was fabulous. We also get to go to fairy and that aspect was exhilarating and the danger is heart stoping.

Red Wolf was crafted together superbly and is a breathtaking addition.

Dimitri and Jaycee grew up together in the same Shifter group, the one run by Kendrick. They went through transition together, and have always been each other's best friend. Dimitri (a Red Wolf Shifter) has asked Jaycee to accept his mate claim; but she has been hesitant due to the changes it will bring to their easy friendship.

They are asked by former Alpha Dylan to attempt to infiltrate a fringe Shifter group, one which may be involved in shady dealings that are a threat to all Shifters. Dimitri and Jaycee head off to New Orleans, where they are rather easily accepted into the group by their enigmatic leader Brice. It isn't long before they realize that the Shifter group is a cult, with Bruce as their all powerful leader. They discover that Brice may have very close ties with the Shifters worst enemy, the Fae. Not only that, he may have ties to Dimitri's tortured youth, a past he has long blocked from his mind.

Interesting entry into the 'Shifters Unbound' series. A bit of different plotline for the books, while staying true to the world. It's good that this far into the series Ashley can still keep the stories fresh and entertaining; and with an evolving storyline.

Jennifer Ashley is simply amazing. Red Wolf was exciting, nerve wracking, made me laugh, made me smile, and had me falling even more in love with the Shifters Unbound series.

So, basically, there's something fishing going on in the shifter world and the leaders are... concerned. So Dimitri and Jaycee-- two of the trackers-- are sent to do what they do best...scope the scene and figure out where the danger is coming from and if one of their own has sold them out to the fae.

I loved Dimitri and Jase. They've known each other practically their whole lives and are best friends and you could so tell. They were great together and had that nice bit of teasing between them. And, whew, sexual tension since he'd mate claimed her and she hadn't given him a reply yet. So...that was fun. lol Jase is badass and doesn't shy away from danger. Dimitri's fierce and protective. And has a stutter. Which was interesting to see especially in a shifter at the top of the food chain.

There was just a little heat and the romance was a little understated since things were so dicey with their mission. I didn't hate that, though, since, really, they already had that bond and were halfway in love even if they couldn't admit it to themselves.

The danger/mission. Lord. Yall. I had to stop reading and take a nap to shore up my strength for the last bit. My palms were sweating and I was seriously antsy as things finally went down and the truth finally came out.

All in all, a damn fine addition the the series. An amazing hero and heroine, danger around every corner, awesome side characters-- including a rather creepy and protective...house--and a pretty exciting tease at what's to come for this world of shifters. Nicely done!

ARC REVIEW

I truly love this series. Red Wolf is book 10 of the Shifters Unbound series by Jennifer Ashley. In White Tiger (book 8) we met Dimitri and Jaycee. In that book Jaycee was a bit annoying but she grew up in the time between the books. Dimitri made his intent to want to mate Jaycee clear in White Tiger, but it is Jaycee’s choice whether to accept or not. In Red Wolf Jaycee and Dimitri are working with the Austin Shifters to find out more about the disappearing shifters and the Fae that are using them, turning them feral and turning them against their own kind. They use Jaycee’s wild side and rule breaking attitude as the perfect cover to get the wrong kind of attention, which it does and it leads them to New Orleans and a cult-like pack worshiping the Goddess where mating rituals mean nothing to them. Jaycee and Dimitri are faced with compromising their own potential mating in order to further their investigation.

Jaycee is slowly coming to turns with Dimitri wanting to be her mate, she likes him…she loves him once she admits it to herself but she is scared that he is just doing it to control her to keep her from going on the dangerous missions they, as trackers, often go on. It takes a serious heart to heart and the notion that she might lose him before she admits the truth to herself. But once she does have him something happens that just might ruin their HEA. Dimitri has known from the moment he met Jaycee that he would mate her he just had to wait for her to realize she felt the same.

Jennifer Ashley turns out another page turner. Jaycee and Dimitri are a fun and great couple that have you rooting for them from the beginning. Jaycee’s quick to action and Dimitri’s slow and calculated methods balance each other out. The camaraderie, trust, and love between can be perceived between them since White Tiger even though Jaycee’s jealousy of Addy you could tell her and Dimitri were meant to be; she just had to come to terms with what having Dimitri as a mate would be like.

Overall, Jaycee and Dimitri are a great couple. The story I don’t want to give away too much but it is so exciting going from Austin to New Orleans to the Fae’s land on the other side of the veil. Along with intense action and great sex it’s a great story and continues on with the series arc of the Fae vs Shifters. Oh! And the haunted house is back (Jasmine’s house from Wild Things) it has to be one of my favorite characters.

Red Wolf is the tenth book in Jennifer Ashley’s Shifter’s Unbound series. This paranormal romance series continues to deliver with strong characters, cutting humor, intricate plots lines, sexy romances, and engaging narrative. Ashley’s clear and concise voice allows for easy comprehension even as the world continues to evolve and grow. These can be read as standalones though I don’t recommend. You’ll lose out on character and world comprehension along with the arc development by not starting from the beginning of the series-Pride Mates. Various plotlines further add to the developing arc as Ashley begins to set the stage for the end.

Fans will remember Dimitri and Jaycee from White Tiger. Trackers and friends with Kendrick; an alpha white tiger and a Guardian. Jaycee crushed on Kendrick until she realized it was an attraction built out of respect and safety, not true love. Towards the end of White Tiger, Dimitri and Jaycee celebrate the rescue of their alpha and his mate claiming with some nookie of their own. :) Dimitri decides to embrace the mate bond though Jaycee doesn’t. She’s not sure she’s ready to mate with anyone, much less her best friend. When Dimitri is drugged at an underground fight club, Dylan and Kendrick approach and ask them to investigate rumors of shifters allying themselves with the fae. Dimitri and Jaycee head to New Orleans and work to integrate themselves into a secretive shifter cult while trying to survive a sentient antebellum home (Wild Things) who likes them. A lot.

Red Wolf picks up a plot thread that began in White Tiger and narrows its focus while strengthening it into the new main story arc. A steady pace pushes the story right along with Ashley splitting her attention between the romance and the conflict. It does start out slow, the emphasis heavy on the romance with bits and pieces of the conflict coming into play. It’s not until the halfway point do we see any real action and the conflict gains the upper hand. We finally learn what Dylan Morrissey’s been up to and how it plays into the next shifter/fae war that is coming. This entire series is built on shifters and the prejudices and bigotry they face from the humans since winning their freedom from their makers; the fae. However, the fae want their battle beasts back and our Using the shifters themselves, the fae are secretly luring them back to Tuil Narath through any means necessary.

While I liked the main conflict and the direction Ashley is taking, I did find the romance lacking. Dimitri and Jaycee just didn’t capture my interest. I found their characterization weak and predictable. Their evolution from friends to lovers is off scene so we don’t get to see the romance develop and that contributed heavily to my apathy towards them. While their chemistry was hot and I liked how easily they worked together not only as lovers but as friends, I found Jaycee’s excuses for not accepting the mate bond weak. It felt like a plot device to amp up the anticipation and sexual tension.

Ashley uses Dimitri and Jaycee’s adventure to introduce new allies and enemies; divulging deeper into the background of the fae and adding another layer to its already convoluted world. Lady Ashling looks to be quite the game changer and I can’t wait to see where Ashley chooses to use her…and in what fashion. I am still #teamBen and I think he deserves a mate or at least a friends with bennies. :) Angus Murray is quite the dark horse and luckily, his story is next.

The ending resolves the main conflict in a climactic fashion while leaving readers with plenty of questions and more than ready for book eleven, Midnight Wolf, tentative release date October 2018. Though this wasn’t my favorite of the series, it was still an engaging read and perfect for paranormal romance fans who enjoy earthy heroes and heroines who love, laugh, and fight with joyful abandonment.

This was really slow in the beginning and middle that it took away from the main couple. The continuation of the shifter story was pretty good but only picked up in the end. We go back to the haunted house and that in itself is a great story. Still those good parts, including more fae trying to control shifters, just didn't make up for how slowly this book went in the first half.

My review and an extended sample of the audiobook are posted at Hotlistens.com.

Dimitri and Jacyee are shifters that have been very close for a long time now. Dimitri claimed Jacyee as his mate in a previous story. He wanted to tell her to keep herself safe. Jacyee is a strong willed tracker and high up in the pack (just below Dimitri). She doesn’t take to being told what to do by anyone but her alpha, Kendrick.

So there is something going on in New Orleans. Kendrick and Dylan have asked Dimitri and Jacyee to go undercover to figure out exactly what is going on and who is leading this new group. They are chosen because they would make good targets. Dimitri is a very strong fighter, but he also has a terrible stutter. He is also frequently mocked because he’s a red wolf, which some see as not pure. He’s often called “coyote”. While this doesn’t bring Dimitri down, because he knows that he could win a fight with any of those mocking him, it would make it easy to infiltrate this cult-like group.

So Dimitri and Jacyee stay in Jazz’s house while in New Orleans. It is a character itself. It has a mind of it’s own and doesn’t mind sharing it’s thoughts. It is also very protective, which vines that will wrap around it to protect from a severe storm. When the second floor is damaged, it just repairs itself.

So Dimitri and Jacyee meet up with a bear shifter who is working to convince shifters in the power of the goddess. He does some “magic” by sticking his hand in the fire and not getting burned, but it isn’t magic, just a magic trick. The more we learn about about Brice, the more suspicious he seems.
So this story wasn’t the best romance and the mystery wasn’t all that mysterious, but I still had a ton of fun in this world that Jennifer Ashley as created. I loved how Dimitri didn’t allow his stutter to define him. I love how Jacyee is a strong female and that didn’t intimate Dimitri in the slightest. He frequently admits that her strength is one things he loves most about her. Neither need the other to complete themselves, but they are stronger as a pair. This is a story that I read mostly for the characters. The characters are wonderful, so even if the romance isn’t my favorite or if I figure out who the bad guy is quickly, I still love spending time with these characters.

Narration
Cris Dukehart does an amazing job with the narration of this book. She did a great job with Dimitri and his stuttering. You could really tell when he was getting frustrated and when he was willing to just work through it. The way she had Jacyee finishing his sentences without her sounding condescending was great. I love listening to her narration of this series.

You might be able to read this book as a stand alone but you'll get a lot more out of it if you've read the previous books in the series. I really enjoy the world Jennifer Ashley has created and the rich and diverse characters in this world. The world building for this series is interesting and somewhat complex but yet easily understandable.

I admit that when we met Jaycee in White Tiger I was not a fan and I was a bit worried that I wouldn't like her in this book either. So while she isn't one of my favorite heroines I did end up liking her and enjoyed her and Dmitri's story.

This book tried to "justify" some of Jaycee's behavior in White Tiger and although it worked to an extent it was still hard for me to accept. However, it didn't take me long to like her and respect her strength. I loved Dmitri and I really liked that he had a stutter and wasn't a perfect hero. I also loved how much respect, admiration and trust he had in Jaycee and her abilities. He was still protective but he let her be herself and trusted her to take care of herself and that they would have each other's backs. It was a very strong partnership and I loved that about this book! It actually read very much like a friends to lovers book which I always enjoy.

The overall plot was advanced and we got to spend some time with the Fae in their world. We also got to see some of our favorite past characters (Dylan, Ben, Tiger) and to meet a few new ones.

Overall, a very enjoyable edition to the series and two characters I ended up really rooting for and one of the best partnerships I've read in awhile!

Dimitri and Jaycee are wolves in Kendrick’s pack; they are very close to their leader and valuable assets. They have grown up together, free and uncollared, as friends since their adolescence and then into the shifter version of adulthood. Dimitri is a rare red wolf who was orphaned at a young age as was Jaycee, who is a leopard shifter. They have a strong bond and since Dimitri mate-claimed his feisty, headstrong leopard in a previous book, that bond will become even stronger if she accepts his claim. Both are skilled trackers; they are sent by their leader and Dylan, the retired but very active head from the Austin shiftertown, to check out a group in New Orleans that may be working with the High Fae who seem intent on building an army of shifters to fight their way back to control of the human world.

The Fae world and their connection to the shifters is greatly expanded in this book. We find out much more history about shifters, their control by the Fae as well as Fae politics, and what they are up to, both the High and Dark ones plus someone that even these arrogant, battling Fae fear and respect. This story is a good mix of Dimitri and Jaycee’s developing relationship interspersed with their undercover mission to find out who is friend or foe among the shifters.

As this book is the tenth in the Shifter Unbound series, I am pleased to say it is still going strong. I enjoyed the intermixing of previously featured characters besides Dylan such as Zander, and Tiger. The shifters are a wild and crazy bunch who love a good fight as well as their mates with every fiber of their being, and a good rowdy party where their animal natures can come out to play. Fans of the series should find this one quite enjoyable.

This book dragged a bit and it was not very interesting to me. I don't mean it was not good, just not as good as some others of this series.

I also felt left out because I didn't read the novellas in between, so they were speaking of people I had no idea of but soon it became clear that what I was missing was in the in between books. So, beware that they are important.

I have been reading this series for a LONG time. In fact, I’ve been reading this series almost as long as I’ve had this blog. As time has gone on, the Shifters Unbound Series has continued to hold my interest, mostly anyway. Red Wolf is a contemporary romance with just a bit of suspense woven in for good measure. This wasn’t my favorite of the series but it certainly my least favorite either.

Dimitri is a rare red wolf with an even rarer quirk. He stutters due to a childhood trauma he can’t remember. Now a part of a clan who only pretends to wear the binding shifter collars humans have forced on them, he actually lives free. Often silent, because of ridicule and his annoyance at not being able to communicate, his partner Jaycee does a lot of the talking for him. She’s been a part of his life for so long she often knows what he’s thinking anyway. When Dimitri mate claims her Jaycee is taken aback that he wants to change their relationship. She can refuse him, but she knows doing so will ruin the friendship she can’t live without.

On assignment undercover, things start to heat up between Dimitri and Jaycee. Along with a possessed house and new friends, they’ll get to the bottom of their case. Or die trying.

The thing about these books is that there isn’t much action. I like them because they are kinda fluffy reads in-between darker books that I gravitate to. If you love shifter romance but don;t necessarily want all the suspense, then you’d definitely enjoy these like I do.

Dimitri was a unique hero both because of his stutter and his heritage. I’d never read about a red wolf shifter before and I also enjoy finding a new type of shifter. He really didn’t let is hold him back. His love for Jaycee grew steadily throughout the book and by the end I really liked them as a couple. Jaycee was a very strong female and allowing herself to love him took time. She was independent to a fault and at times I just wanted her to give in to what her heart was trying to tell her. In the end, she got there though and that’s all that matters.

Another strong book in a series of strong books!

I give Red Wolf by Jennifer Ashley 3.5 stars!

Ms. Ashley what happened?! I've been head over heels in love with this series since reading Zander's book, yea I discovered your shifters a little late! But this one did very little for me. Jaycee was such a thorn in my side during Kendrick's book but she completely fell flat in this story. Dimitri has been all in for Jaycee the whole time and she was all standoffish even when she was 'burning' for him..... as far as every other book was concerned, mating frenzy would have had them getting busy wayyyy more often then they did. Plus there is an undertone of intimacy between them the whole time that never developed past that. I felt their connection the most when Dimitri travels with Brice, but other than that this book was a SUPER slow burn. Their mating definitely did not consume me. Things I did love: interacting with the House again, the fact that we got a closer look at Ben, a closer look at Faerie.

3.5 stars.

We first met stammering Dimitri and aggressive Jaycee in White Tiger as a couple of Kendrick's trackers. The story starts with them being sent to New Orleans to investigate a splinter shifter group as punishment for Jaycee interrupting a fight match (something a female shifter should never do!).

They got to live in Jasmine weird house (Wild Things) in New Orleans and also met up with Ben, the "goblin" who's also there covertly.

I have to say Jaycee didn't leave much of a positive impression in White Tiger

I find the scenes involving the house and those with Ben, Zander, Tiger much more interesting. Zander and Tiger have such large personalities that they seem to dominate whenever they appear. I'm looking forward to Tiger's upcoming novella.

Overall, another solid addition to the series and does provide some progress into what's happening with the fae/shifter "war".

Meh... I found this one to be a little boring and despite some plot points having some interest, I really feel sad there isn't more development in the whole shifter culture and society...
The romance in this one was a bit bland for me too.... friends to lovers isn't my favorite trope...

Loved, Loved, Loved this book!!!

I love this couple, the story is engaging and well written. I was quickly wrapped in the characters and could not put it down to the very end. Lupine Shifter Dimitri hasn’t had it easy always defending himself against those who don’t see him worthy. Jaycee Bordeaux, a leopard Shifter she is Dimitri’s old friend and supporter. As individuals, they are amazing but together they are dynamic I can’t wait to read more.

Red wolf Shifter Dimitri and leopard Shifter Jaycee Bordeaux's relationship is one of depth.
These two trackers are on a mission to find out about missing shifters. Their search leads them to New Orleans and some surprising and unwanted discoveries.
As always I enjoyed further developments in the Shifters series!

2.5 stars...I am done with this series. There was no true romance conflict. If anything it diminished there bond in my eyes, since it didn't bother them that there mate bond was unresolved for so long. I was so indignant and upset at what happened to Dimitri near the end that I started to just quit there but I forced myself not to and I was mildly glad I did.

I anticipate a great read, like Tiger Magic (my first JA book) and Hard Mated and I only feel disappointed and that I wasted my time.

I just went on another exciting adventure with shifters from Jennifer Ashley’s Shifters Unbound series. This time I joined Jaycee and Dimitri as they went undercover in New Orleans and I must say that Dimitri is quite sexy and charming but definitely an alpha wolf and he met his match in Jaycee because she is one tough, take no prisoners feline. These two strong, captivating shifters led each other on a fiery and feisty mating dance which was full of sizzling chemistry and sultry passion as well as snark and fun all while in the enemy’s sights. They certainly kept things interesting throughout their courtship which just made me love them more.

The action and thrills were steady to fast paced throughout my adventure and let me tell you, some of it was downright scary, especially going through gateways and ending up in the fae’s backyard and the fights between our shifter warriors and the deluded shifters and the power hungry fae and then there was plotting going on with lots of twists so I was kept guessing whether Ben (bear shifter) was the bad guy everyone thought he was.

I just love reuniting with some of my other shifter friends from this series as well as making new ones, so I like to visit quite often and Red Wolf was definitely an exciting chance to do just that as the shifters and a couple of fae friends made sure that there was never a dull moment to be found and I just had stick with Jaycee and Dimitri until the very end. I can’t wait till I can visit this fascinating and wonderful world again to find out what unexpected adventure I find myself participating in.

This started out slow, with a lot of the focus on Jaycee's internal feelings and exploring a borrowed house. It does eventually pick up and I really enjoyed the second half. The story-arc is continued from White Tiger, and we also saw threads from other books coming together here. Ashley has a wonderful, solid writing voice that really brings this world to life. Though the romance was slow and somewhat lacking, the overall story-arc and progression of things inside the world really worked for me. I love how she tugs so many threads at once. In this book we see how many of them are connected.

I didn't much care for Jaycee's internal struggle about the mate-claim. Her main hesitation was that she didn't want to be controlled or under the thumb of another. That would make sense if Dimitri ever tried to control her. He didn't want her in danger, of course, but that's because he loved her. He never tried to stop her from doing her job and in fact often encouraged her. So her fears there were groundless and therefore didn't hold sway with me. The outside conflict was much more interesting and kept me reading.

Dimitri is a rare red wolf Shifter with a stutter so he's fought for respect his whole life. He's also an uncollared Shifter and is actually one of the few whose never worn one. Dimitri is highly skilled at fighting and is one of the best. He's also a bodyguard and tracker for Kendrick, his leader. Kendrick's group does not live in a Shiftertown as they've avoided being caught by humans. Jaycee is his mate although she hasn't accepted his mate-claim yet although she hasn't declined it either. In addition, they are best friends and she's his tracking partner. Their current job pulls them in many directions and brings back an memory for Dimitri

"Red Wolf" is full of action and an awesome read. I highly recommend it.
